We were gifted a certificate for Aspen Leaf Landscaping and had Kevin come out and bid on some cleanup work in our yard. We accepted his bid and he said he would call to schedule his crew. He never called and we ended up doing the work ourselves. The second time we attempted to hire Kevin’s crew was for weeding. He told me it would be 5-6 weeks until he had a 2 hr spot available. He also let me know that the price for pulling weeds is $40/man hr !! Rates are way too high & service is beyond poor.

Response from Aspen Leaf Landscaping
Mrs. Fellers is correct in that when she and her husband first contacted us, they requested some hauling service for debris, which is not really our specialty, however I told him I would try to find a time that my crew was available, since they had been gifted the work. It is also correct that I did not call back to arrange for a time, as our season got very busy and I was unable to find a workable time. When contacted again, I agreed to schedule a crew to do the weed pulling, but informed Mrs. Fellers that our first available time slot would be in late August, as my crews were booked solid during the busiest time of our year. I also informed her that I estimated we would be able to do approximately 2 hours of work for the amount that had been gifted to her. Our standard man hour bill rate is $40 and I expected two men could work for about 2 hours for the $150 she had been gifted. She found that to be unacceptable and 'too high' a price to pay for the work she had requested. I suggested that I refund the gift amount to the giver, and that she try to find someone at a lower rate and/or with more availability to which she agreed. I informed the person that had originally given her the gift (a previous maintenance customer who has said she would continue to refer us....) that I would destroy her check, which I have done. I am sorry that this was such an unpleasant experience for Mr. & Mrs. Fellers.

They were efficient & performed quality work. We have had previous landscapers who didn't prune the top of the abelia, at 8' & just hacked off the tops of our large rosebushes. They cleaned up the debris well which has not always occurred in the past. It was most impressive that they volunteered to trim a large lavender at no cost. As they were removing debris, they raked up & removed pine needles which was beyond the scope of their designated work.
Description of Work: Aeration & thatching of lawn. Pruning of regular & carpet roses, cottenasters, abelia, barberry & ornamental grasses. Clean up of tamarix fronds within rocks.

Owner came out to the house to give us the original estimate. We live between 2 large cottonwoods on either side and the leaf build up is considerable. Leaf blowing was effective but not under low shrubs in the front even requesting that specifically from them. Leaf blowers are used on our porches and results in a lot of dust being blown on all porch surfaces requiring that we clean it up. They did come every 2 weeks in fall and winter to do the leaf clean up. Oftentimes clippings from bush trimming have been left in the bush and some branches are not cut off completely. The crew lacks knowledge of how to trim a bush. Nearly half of the irises died as a result of their trimming them to less than a half inch high. When asked if they knew how to trim irises they indicated that they knew how. I wish the owner had come out occasionally to see the work being done. Last fall and winter they did a great job of removing the leaves but they do not have the skills or knowledge for any other type of plant maintenance. We were pleased with the results of the plant and tree feedings in the spring.
Description of Work: Performed yard clean up as per contract. Cleaned up leaf debris from front and back yards. Feed trees and some bushes in the spring. Trimmed bushes and plants, used blower to collect leaf debris and cut back irises. Generally perform clean up once a month or as needed; we usually get an email indicating when the crew is coming.

Mr. Caldwell was very pleasant initially and provided an estimate to do the above work for $10000 which appeared reasonable. From the onset, the work proceeded slowly with frequent inexplicable delays. Mr. Caldwell submitted frequent bills, numbering several in a given month, and seeking immediate compensation for any quantity of work he did, no matter how small. Suddenly, the amount billed to me was reaching $7000, with much of the back yard still to be completed and NO work done in my front yard. Plus, the work he did do quickly revealed itself to be of poor quality, with faulty irrigation systems, inadequate amounts of rock and crusher fine, and small plants that quickly died. I spent months trying to resolve this problem, but Mr. Caldwell refused to fix these problems and refused to honor his original estimate. I am taking him to court.
Description of Work: I hired this company to do a complete landscaping job in my front and back yard, which included installation of a watering system, landscaping using xeriscaping materials, and installing new plants and trees.
