+ -1 moreBecause of my bad past experiences with pool maintenance companies, I kept waiting for and quot;the catchand quot;. It never came. I thought they were going to and quot;get meand quot; on the fall shut down when they said they would have to send another person later in the week to complete the shut down process. The second person came and completed the shut down, but they did not bill me for the second trip. They seem to be very competent in all aspects of pool maintenance, their prices are reasonable, and they were fair with me. They were generally prompt and otherwise professional, but could improve in this area. For example, I stayed home from work to meet them on the day they were to repair the main valve. They did not show up. I called them to find out why. They told me they would probably not be able to make it that day because repairs on their service truck were not completed as scheduled. There were a few other minor scheduling issues and a couple of my requests were forgotten until I reminded them, but ultimately everything got done to our satisfaction. I plan to ask American Pool and Spa to service our pool during the 2013 season! They are by far the best pool maintenance company I know.
Description of Work: We have used another small swimming pool maintenance company (not American Pool and Spa) for most of the nine years we've lived in Albuquerque. The main guy is knowledgeable about swimming pool chemistry, his helper is good a the bi-weekly cleaning, but the main guy is terrible when it comes to anything mechanical. If something mechanical does work to his pleasure his solution is pounding, jerking, slammed things around until it either starts working, or as is often the case, breaks. He ripped a large hole in our admittedly old pool cover one year, I caught him trying to hammer a pin into a mechanical joint where I knew only a little finesse of the linkage allows the pin to drop into place, and most recently he broke the main valve during an attempt to repair a small leak in the pipe near the valve. He said it would repair all the damaged valve and plumbing, which he caused, for "...probably around $525, but wouldn't know for sure until he got into it." One season we tried another pool service company. He did fix a side gate for us, but was very expensive and despite dumping lots of high priced chemicals into our pool for a few months was never able to get the water in the pool to be suitable for swimming. Our neighbor started using American Pool and Spa in the spring of 2012. I asked American Pool and Spa to quote replacing the damaged main valve. They quoted a firm price of around $280 for parts & labor. They replaced the main valve and much of the other piping around the valve and pump. Because of the excellent repair work at a very good price, I asked then to do service our pool for the 2012 season.

+ -1 morethe first two years of maintaining my pool was done properly. However, the office staff was never friendly and at times difficult. The last two months the maintenance crew could not figure out why my pool would not stay clean. They even blamed me for not maintaining it between their visits. I called another service who figured out the problem on the first visit. I think if the maintenance staff had called the owner he probably could have figured out the problem as he is knowledgable. But they never called him to help. Instead they wasted a lot of my money and time my family could have been using our pool. I would never call them again.
Description of Work: maintenance of pool and occasional repair of equipment.
