Our overall bathroom remodel experience was painless and very positive. Karl was very honest about the extensive work that needed to be done in this remodel. He suggested and used quality products from the tile to the shower and sink fixtures to the toilet to the vanity. Our old shower was wrecked out to install a new bath and completely new shower system (faucet, shower head). New tile work both ceramic and decorative was also done in the bath/shower. Niches were also added. The old flooring which was a few layers thick with linoleum was torn out. Ceramic tile was installed. A new vanity with custom drawers was installed, along with two new contemporary sinks. Two new mirrors, doubling as medicine cabinets were installed above the sinks. A new contemporary, low flow toilet was installed. A new very quiet and powerful ventilation/fan system was built into the bathroom. Speakers were also custom built into the new bathroom. After each day of work, the bathroom area/site was always left clean of debris. We couldn't be happier with the new bathroom. Karl and his crew did a fantastic job!
Description of Work: A complete master bath remodel was performed. Our master bath was in bad shape (water damage on walls nearest the shower; glass shower door not working; tile in shower outdated and grout was breaking apart; shower head was too short; toilet old and falling apart; vanity was flimsey and falling apart; wall was severly bowed in areas; no ventilation). The remodel was done on our home which is almost 30 years old. Karl and his crew wrecked out our old shower to install a bath and a completely new shower system (faucet; shower head). New Tile work was installed which included beautiful niches and decorative tile. The old linoleum flooring was torn out and ceramic tile was installed. A new vanity with custom drawers was installed, along with two new contemporary sinks. A new contemporary, low flow toilet was installed. Two new mirrors, doubling as medicine cabinets were installed above the the double sinks. Speakers were also built into the new bathroom.

Overall, the work was completed faster than expected, with superior results. Karl responded to my call promptly, with a reasonable estimate, clearly knew his business, and, in the end, provided with an improved front door. He clearly recognized the need for security and insulation from the cold in the temp door, and promptly delivered and installed the new door as soon as it was ready. He completed the work by cutting new tiles and grouting them into the interior threshold. I would certainly recommend him to others!
Description of Work: Karl Parker, who owns the company, responded to my urgent requirement to repair or replace my front door, a heavy wooden double door, which had been broken into by a burglar. The jamb and frame had been splintered into shreds on one side, and the lock rendered unusable. His estimate for the work was reasonable, and I was impressed by his responsiveness, as well as the rave reviews on Angie's list. Because he would have to remove the doors entirely to have repairs made and new jamb and frame custom- made to fit, Karl took great pains to frame and insulate a safe and nearly air tight replacement for the doors. The weather was bitter cold for this work, I might add. The house was snug and draft free. The shop completed their work quickly, enabling Karl and two other workmen to replace the temp doors and install the repaired doors. It was apparent that this was a difficult and painstaking job, again completed in very cold weather. The result was a set of improved doors, with better threshold, new brass lever handles, and better locks. When I noted that a narrow band was left between the inner threshold and the tile work, he took some of the tiles I had on hand, cut them to fit the space perfectly, and came back to install and grout them.

Karl Parker, the owner of All American Design and Construction came by with his electrical contractor, Bob Duvall of Procraft Construction, to take a look at the space underneath our stairwell and give us ideas. There was a small hole cut into the wall so they could peer into the space to get an idea of how much work would be involved. He provided a bid a few days later and we accepted the contract. On the day the job was scheduled to begin, Karl had a problem with his vehicle but he was courteous and called me to say he was running late. Thereafter, he was always on time, if not early to get the project started for the day. Karl did the actual work himself, and on occasion, he would bring in someone to help. Everyone on his team was very nice. The shelving unit that we wanted installed in the space was very large and once we could walk into the space, it seemed impossible that it would fit. Karl was very creative in coming up with ideas and making adjustments to come up with the dimensions we needed. Karl was very professional in his work, and he was also very nice to our two children, which made me comfortable having him in our home. Everyday before he left, he made sure the work space was cleaned up and organized. My husband met Karl the day the project was completed so he understood why I had such great things to say. The space Karl created for us underneath our stairwell is beautiful. Even though it's just an extra storage space, it is completed and looks like the rest of our house. He had a door created that matches the rest of ours doors so it looks like that room was always there. We highly recommend All American Design and Construction and are currently having them look into doing another project for our home.
Description of Work: We wanted the unfinished space underneath our stairwell converted into a closet for additional storage space in our home. The work was performed as per the contract: 1) Remove drywall and install door 2) Frame new wall, drywall, tape, texture and paint 3) Relocate electrical outlet, vacuum outlet (we have a built in vacuum port in our home), and installation of ceiling light 4) Install shelving system (paint was still too wet to put shelving up but Karl did some adjustments on our front door and garage doors instead) 5) Install new tile and grout The work was completed within 1 week as per the contract. We provided the ceiling light fixture, tile, grout, paint and shelving system so the price did not include those materials.

We had to have a closet built for our replacement hot-water heater. It sounds simple, but there were many issues with bringing existing conditions up to code, working around baseboard heating and very limited space. Karl did a great job of getting this all done in as reasonable a time as possible, considering the issues. The finished job is just what we wanted/needed.

Karl came the same day I initially called him and provided me with an estimate in my e-mail by the next day. After signing the contract, we agreed on a start date. He showed up promptly on that day and every day after until the project was completed approximately 3 weeks later. He was personally working & directing the job himself every day. I am still smiling because it was the best experience I have ever had with remodeling/construction. He is an absolute perfectionist with his projects. The tile work he did in the shower, floors, and around our fireplace is amazing! We previously had someone replace the fireplace between or master BR & bedroom and needed Karl to drywall, tape, texture, paint, & tile around the fireplace. Unfortunately, the gentleman who had installed the fireplace did not install it level and refused to come back out and fix the problem. So rather than work with something that was not done properly, he removed the framing, leveled the fireplace, and then finished the walls. At the close of the project, Karl sat down with us and asked us for any comments or suggestions. We simply could not think of any problems . We are so pleased with the way everything turned out and will definitely recommend Karl to all of our friends. (If I could figure out how to do it, I would add pictures).
Description of Work: Karl completed our master bathroom remodel: Removal of old shower & tub surround Custom shower pan, glass rock, bench rebuild, & install of new tile in shower. Removal of carpet and installation of new floor & baseboard tile. Installation of new fixtures in shower, existing tub, & sinks/faucets on new granite countertops. Finished walls around new fireplace (drywall, tape, texture, paint, tile)

I contacted Karl about replacing a door on an outside clubhouse/storage shed. He came over and saw that the door was a custom style door and it would be expensive to replace. We spent some time discussing what the options were without spending several hundred dollars. Many ideas were generated, but we did not come up with a fix. Karl wanted some time to come up with an idea and said he would contact me in a couple of days. Karl contacted me two days later with an option to use a solid wood door that would be modified to fit the odd sized door frame. He came out the next day to install the door (which he painted himself) and did a great job. His professionalism and honesty is what stood out the most with me. I highly recommend All American Design and Construction, and I plan to use them again.

Great!! experience, see above for details.
Description of Work: I talked to Karl on the phone at length regarding a home I am purchasing. He gave me great advise and then came out to the home the next day when I asked him to please take a look at it for me. He spent 2.5 hours going over the house in great detail and advised me as to how to fix most of my problem areas. He even showed me how to test for lead based paint as it was an older home. He gave me a detailed list of needed repairs and showed my son how to do most of the repairs himself! He did not even want to charge me but I insisted on reimbursing him for the lead based paint kit and his time. He was the most honest and helpful contractor I have ever met. Even better than the guy on HGTV!! I will certainly call him to do any repairs or remodels.

I contacted Karl late morning and he made himself availble for an afternoon appointment to perform an assessment for a quote for some repairs required after a house inspection. He was very informative and if I had gone through with the purchase of the house, I definitely would have contracted with him to have those repairs performed. Really appreciated the quick response and level of expertise he demonstrated through our discussion.

Karl and his crew were professional, punctual, knowledgeable and very personable. I am beyond satisfied with the quality of their work. They went above and beyond what was necessary (my brand new sink was cracked in the box and one of the crew, Jake, went to the business where I purchased it to bring back the damaged one and returned with a replacement) to ensure that the job was done RIGHT. I will certaintly not hesitate to call them again for any other general contracting needs in the future, and will recommend them without reservation to anyone who asks if I know of a fair and competent general contractor. Their fee for the work done was very competitive, and I feel that I got MORE than my money's worth. Good job guys, good job.

We couldn't be happier. Both my wife and I's schedules can be challenging and getting projects like this aren't always easily taken care of but All American was very flexible. We appreciated that. We had another project going on in the house and they communicated beautifully with the other contractor which really helped things go smoothly I think for everyone. In addition, their communication with us and some of their suggestions as to how they felt our project should go was really a big help.

Karl was able to provide a prompt estimate, and completed the installation at cost and at less than the promised time. It is impossible to tell that the doorway was not built at the same time the house was constructed. During the entire process, Karl and his crew took extreme care to minimize any mess caused during the construction process, and cleaned up totally after the job was completed (which impressed my wife, who has never before seen anyone clean anything to her satisfaction). And on top of everything else, he even took a little time and fixed a blemish on another wall that was caused during our move -- and didn't charge anything extra. I strongly recommend Karl and All American Design and Construction for any household remodeling work in Central New Mexico.
Description of Work: Our newly-built home did not have a door between the master bedroom and the master bathroom, just a fancy arched entryway. This included removing existing framing from the arched doorway, re-framing the door, installing and finishing the drywall, installing the door and associated hardware, matching the current wall texture, and painting.

We decided to have our master bathroom remodeled. After having some bad experiences with plumbers/electricians in recent years, we decided to look at a small general contractor. We had no other way of figuring out who was a good contractor and, so, we decided to go to Angie?s List. We wanted a local company and first noticed All American because of the ?grades?. We checked out other contractors with good grades? but kept coming back to All American because unlike others, he only had ?A?s and very positive comments. We met with Karl Parker, the owner, and we were very impressed with his professionalism and straight forward approach. He didn?t pull many punches when it came to what he ?thought? we should do. But, he listened to our desires and planned accordingly. He and his workers (and sub-contractors) where very prompt, courteous, and we had the feeling they cared about doing a very good job. As I work from home, I really appreciated the fact that they kept the work area very clean after each day. Before the work started, they laid plastic on the carpet and cardboard protection on the flooring. When the demolition of the bathroom started, more serious plumbing problems were uncovered. Karl came to me immediately with the issues as they arose. My wife and I had to review our options and we made the choice to move our partial remodel into a full remodel. Once the construction began, I gained a lot of appreciation of Karl?s abilities. Working at home, I could see on a daily basis how Karl would correct some of the 30-year-old construction. He took his time and made sure things were square? lined up? and done right. His sub-contractors ? plumbing / electrical / painting ? were also very good, efficient, and the work was done very well. We actually used each sub-contractor do some additional jobs around the house (as they were already here) and we found their price and workmanship was very good and we plan on using them for our household needs. To summarize, I really appreciate the fact that there was a ?tool? like Angie?s list to help us find a contractor that others think highly of. We were fortunate to find All American to remodel our master bathroom. He?s an excellent straight shooter and an exceptional contractor. We found his prices reasonable for the quality of the work. Yes? we are already making plans for what Karl will do next for us.

We were very happy with everyone who worked on the shower. They were professional, polite, prompt and made the experience a pleasure. We love the shower they put into our home. We did not expect the shower to cost that much, but the materials are superior, the work perfect and we could not have had a better experience with the workmen and the remainder of the personnel we met. It all was worth every penny.

My husband had gutted the cabinets, the shower stall and the garden tub from the bath before Karl got started. Also, we had our own plumber jack-hammer the existing concrete floor and move the shower drain apx. four feet prior to Karl's arrival. Karl and his assistant arrived early and on time the morning of 11/28 and first removed the existing window, framed up the wall to fit the acrylic block window I purchased. He then installed the window and stuccoed the exterior wall of our home beautifully. (The painting portion is being done by a company that is repainting our entire home.) Next, the walls for the shower were framed and/or reinforced so support the fold-down seat and the grab bars that would be installed. Karl is very thorough about going through every step of the process with you and making sure everything is done to your satisfaction. Once this was done, he put in the custom pan and coated the pan and walls completely with a special sealer. This cured for a couple of days and then the tiling began. (Our plumber returned to finish the installation of the faucet plumbing but Karl told us that his plumber would have done it with a more current technique and would not have charged as much, so I would definitely go with Karl's subcontractors if I was to do this over again!) Karl also removed some of our floor tiles near the toilet and added the needed tiles to conform to the new footprint of our new cabinets being installed. After the floor was fixed and while the shower was curing, Karl and his cabinet man installed the new cabinets that we purchased from Direct Buy. Karl had previously measured the space in the vanity cabinets where the sinks were to be and had some reservations to their fit re: plumbing issues. He looked at the Cad drawing layout that the Direct Buy "cabinet man" had made and said it would be tight but it would work. The granite company then came out Dec. 9th and measured to cut the granite and that was installed by them the 16th of Dec. We ended up firing our painter because Karl did not feel he was correcting the problem with the walls not being square and level. The walls in our home (Centex) have never been "square" so much more mudding had to be done than we thought by Karl's subcontracting painter, but Raul of Unique Image Painting did an excellent job and was just as pleasant to work with as Karl! Karl and his assistant were meticulous about tiling the shower and making sure the window sill, the shower floor and the ledge that the shower door sits on were angled so as to assist with draining water properly and not cause any "pooling" problems. He also installed a great niche in the shower wall for our soaps, etc. I picked flat pebble tile for the floor which Karl said was hard to work with but it looks gorgeous, as does the glass tile accent band around the inside perimeter of the shower and the sink backsplash. The bathroom was completed with the installation of a glass panel with shower door on Dec. 23rd! Karl is a very professional young man with extremely high standards in his work and ethics. He and his subcontractors are dedicated to YOUR job and you don't feel that he is just fitting you in between other jobs, even though I know he had other crew members working on other projects while he was doing ours. We spent apx. $9,000 on all of the materials i.e. toilet, glass shower door, tiles, brushed stainless hardware, cabinets and granite, etc. Had we realized we could have saved on the plumbing to move the drain for the shower, we would have used Karl's plumber, but instead used ABQ Plumbing which ended up totaling $1500. So including Karl's fee, we spent a total of $18,000 but feel that we have a beautiful and very functional bathroom well worth every penny that we spent. I would recommend All American Design and Construction for any project you may have and all of our friends think Karl's work is beautiful! I would be happy to provide pictures at your request but they will probably be posted on his website. Carol Bogaski bogaski0@gmail.com
Description of Work: My husband and I are both retired and getting ready for "staying in our home until the end". We wanted our master bathroom handicap accessible for our future needs. I had two general contractors give me estimates to gut the bathroom which originally had a garden tub with a 48" x 48" window behind it and a small shower stall next to the tub on the north wall. The south wall had cheap, original vanity cabinets that were 60 " long and the standard cultured marble counter top. We had already changed the flooring from vinyl to ceramic tile. These two contractors wanted between $19-22K to remove the old and put it a custom vanity (kitchen height) with granite top, a matching linen cabinet where the old shower stall was ( 84" high x 32" wide), chair height toilet, install a custom shower pan (the new area is 60" long and 44" wide), remove the old window and install glass block, put in cultured marble slab walls and shower flooring and I guess, the shower hardware. Also the walls in the bath needed to be re-texturized and painted since I had used venetian plaster on them. I thought that was very high and since we belong to Direct Buy, thought I could have it done much cheaper by purchasing the materials there. It also was not the type of materials that I wanted and I had a definite picture in my mind as to what I wanted the finished project to look like. We had a bad experience with a man who said he could do this job and then never returned our calls when we were ready to start. I called three companies listed on Angie's list and only heard back from two of them. They were both very prompt in coming out to give me an estimate. I liked both owner's and their knowledge but Karl Parker of All American Design and Construction truly impressed me with his experience and esp. his knowledge of the current techniques and materials to use to tile the shower area and the foundational work before setting the tile. So even though Karl's estimate was apx. $3000 more than the other company, we chose to have it done "right".

Estimates and return phone calls were prompt. The team was flexible and accommodating. The job delay was never the fault of the team, but me changing my mind and making additions. Karl Parker and his team are thorough, professional and extremely talented. This company is not the least expensive but the job quality is second to none. This is not my first major remodel. I only wish Karl and his team were around the first time. I am proud to show off the details of this job. I feel safer, in my home, knowing that all problems discovered during construction were fixed and WILL NOT ever be a problem again. I am looking forward to my next project of adding a carport with anticipation, instead of dread. This team with be the only ones I consider for that job.
Description of Work: I had a my 1967 bathroom enlarged, remodeled and updated. Onyx counter including 2 sinks (use to be 1), a very large garden tub, HEATED tile floors, new toilet (including a new piping), walls floated ( to make them square) for tile in tub/shower, new cabinets, a solar tube (which let ambient light in during day) and several new lights. Old master bedroom painted, and the addition of a recirculator for the hot water. In addition Bob, the electrician, added dedicated outlets for my new wine cooler. My electrical wiring (including the original aluminum wiring) was thoroughly checked and updated including correction of my previous service upgrade.

Work was professionally done, details were correct and complete, and cleanup afterward was thorough. We'll definitely call on Karl and All American for our next major project.
Description of Work: Karl (All-American) completed several odds & ends which another contractor had not addressed appropriately -- particularly a replacement window frame and baseboard.
