A good team. Arrived on time and worked hard. Did a good job in only a few days. Size of team varied to meet the work of the day. Would like to have seen Shai on site more often, but his foreman was great.

It was fine and he was constantly making sure things were done the way I wanted them to be done. The Deal was for for regular stucco and I needed synthetic stucco so this made the costs considerably more but it was justified by the product.
Description of Work: They completed a house re-stucco with materials. They also made roof repairs and there was more square footage than what the Deal included so the work cost more. The work was completed in a couple weeks.

Since the previous owners had painted the stucco, Shai said we would have to go with a synthetic stucco with is a little more expensive then standard stucco. They did a great job in performing repairs and then re-stuccoing the house. We also had them do some sealing work on the flat roof. Overall, we are very satisfied with the work Above and Beyond did on the house and would recommend them.

Angie's list had a big deal sale on that stated get a whole house stuccoed for $2,799. I have what I would call a small to normal size house 1.560 square feet. When the contractor stopped by he was very nice. He walked around the house and measured the house said gave me an estimate. The price was for an additional $1,701. I expected to pay a little more than $2,799 but not $1,701 more. After I talked to my wife we didn't think it was that great of a deal. I called Angie's list and asked if I could get a refund the gentlemen said yes that all I needed to do was fill out the refund request. That is why I'm writing you now. Thanks Carlos.

Owner had more than 1,000 square feet of wall area beyond the 2,000 square feet included in the deal, which is why his quote was that many dollars more. The exterior wall area can vary quite significantly between houses of the same interior living area. This is obvious when you consider factors such as the layout of the house, walls' height, varying ceiling heights, pitched or flat roof, courtyard walls, garages, chimneys, the list goes on and on.. I explained all of this to the Owner during the actual site visit when I measured his house. Although I understand he might be disappointed, he did get a very good deal considering the size of (the exterior walls, patio walls and courtyard walls of) his house. We always encourage Homeowners to attend the measuring process and try to explain all questions related to the scope of work in an informative, detailed and transparent matter.

I would never use them again. I'm really disappointed. They're terrible. It looked like it was patched, not re-stuccoed. They stuccoed my wiring and some of my boxes. I feel really scammed. They came out twice to allegedly redo the front but it still looks terrible and they sent me a bill for $300 but I'm not going to pay it until I'm satisfied with the front of my house. It looks terrible in the back too. I would never use them again. I would never give them a recommendation. I feel like I was really cheated. I feel like he just shined me on with no intention of providing quality work. I'm really disappointed. We had a really decent conversation. He has a child with cerebral palsy, I had one who passed away so it just sort of made me think that he had some character and he gave me several stories about bad experiences that he had so I thought he's going to be awesome but it was "au contraire". He never did the work, he had someone else do it. He was not here. Their pricing was great for what they said they were going to do, but they didn't do it. I would say that their pricing for what they did do was completely unacceptable.

The Owner may feel that she was "cheated", but I feel like this is the most unfair review I have received during the entire time I have been with Angie's List. Here is my side of it: The house had been painted, which is why the treatment we chose, with the Owner, was to patch, apply a bonding agent, then color with traditional stucco. (traditional stucco does not adhere to paint, so the bonding agent acts as a "bridge"- It adheres to the paint, and the stucco adheres to it). One of the potential problems with the bonding agent can be uneven coloring of the exterior stucco. This is less common with lighter stucco then it is with darker stucco, and this house was getting a very light color, similar to the existing one. After discussing all this with the Owner, we went ahead and re-stuccoed it, and the color looked uniform, with one exception- there was an area in the bottom front corner of the home that dried slightly different than the rest of the house. The Owner called me, I examined it, and agreed it needed to be taken care of. So we came back and FogKoted that area and beyond it, which normally would take care of this issue. I asked the Owner how she liked it and if we needed to come back. She looked at it after it was dry and said the old outline was still visible. The conversation was friendly and courteous. She was very pleased with everything else. We returned a second time, and this time we decided to re-do the entire front of the home, and that's what we did. I had been to the site and inspected the work during these different phases, and I spoke to the Owner routinely while this was going on, so I don't know why she says I wasn't around. After we re-stuccoed the front of the home, I spoke to the Owner. She said it looks great. I thanked her and asked her to inspect it again in 2-3 days, after it completely cured, and if there was anything that looked wrong to give us a call. I did not hear from her again until I saw this review. That is the GROSSLY UNFAIR AND UNJUST part of it. If there was a problem, why not just call us and tell us? We would have come and checked it out and tried to fix it, and still would. It's not like we had a bad communication before (which she mentions), It's not like we wouldn't come and perform warranty service before-(which she acknowledges, too). I had even asked the Owner to hold some of the money owed ($300) until everything was taken care of, so as to assure her she was not being subject to any foul play. All I heard after the last service was how great everything was. I take a lot of pride in my work and so does everyone on my crew. Warranty service is rarely required, but it does come up on occasion, and when it does- we take care of it. That's why it's there. There is, however, no substitute for direct communication between us and our clients. The review process puts a lot of power with the members of Angie's List and everyone knows this. With great power comes great responsibility, and I feel like this Owner acted both irresponsibly and unfairly. I would hate to think that the real reason for this harsh review is just for getting out of paying a $300.00 balance. I would honestly prefer to just waive it and take care of the problem so that I have a happy customer, but you have to call me or the office and just let us know what's going on.

Shai was very responsive. He gave us an evaluation of the condition of the stucco and several recommendations as to how to proceed with maintenance. His team came and touched up the stucco. They did an excellent job of matching the color and the work looks seamless. They were very courteous, punctual and professional They also did an excellent job of cleaning up after their work... All in all, a very pleasant experience. We compared several estimates and they were completely competitive with the best. Highly Recommended.

Shai came out to the house in April to review the job and make suggestions as to color of the stucco and how the repairs would be completed. This included a list of the repairs that would be completed. He also included a refund since the amount of work was less than the angies's list price. He gave us a color sample so that we could think about which color we would like. He contacted us later in the later part of spring to give us an approximate date on which he would start. He also updated us as the weather delayed some of the earlier jobs, pushing our job to a later date. The work was started in late July, first the repairs, which needed a week to cure, then the final stucco work. Shai came out the day after the work was completed to check on the color since it had rained in the area that night. He also showed me how to hose down the stucco to cure the color and help the stucco set. I am very pleased with the work, the crew was polite and hard working. They cleaned up after and left the area spotless. I love the color and the texture. I would hire Above and Beyond again.

I am late posting this review because I had other house projects completed after my re-stucco, and do not want my tardiness to reflect negatively upon the provider (with whom I am extremely happy). I bought the stucco Big Deal ($2,799 for up to 2200 square feet of exterior wall space) from Above and Beyond Home Improvement in late March. Mr. Shai Shelhav, owner, came to the house on March 27, 2014 and examined the the house very carefully, and told me where repairs would be needed, as the stucco had "de-laminated" from the house in several spots. He also noted all of the cracks that would be patched - there were many of them, including a lot that ran horizontally. He measured the house and gave me an estimate of $4,400 plus tax. My house is pretty big, and the price included a discounted rate of $1.50 per additional square foot. He then wrote up the contract which detailed all of the specific tasks that would be performed (along with my commitment to water the patchwork for at least 3 days afterwards), and with the price (minus my pre-paid $2,799). He showed me a color chart and explained that the final color that I chose might be slightly different on the wall. He told me that after I chose a color he could, if I wanted, direct me to some homes already completed with that color so that I could see what it looked like. I was impressed by his desire to make sure I would be happy with the color. As stated in the Big Deal, he told me that the work would be completed in late Spring or early Summer and that he would be in contact with me to bring his foreman out to see the house prior to the actual work being done. He did come in early June with his foreman, Felipe, to look at the house, and made sure Felipe was aware of the areas that needed repair. The repair and patchwork was done on June 19th. The house was re-stuccoed on June 25th. Felipe and his crew arrived promptly at 7:30am, put down a lot of canvas tarp to protect the yard, walkways and patio areas and put masking tape and plastic covering around windows, doorways and other areas. The crew began work promptly, and were very courteous and professional. Shel had also told me that if I wanted to buy new outside light fixtures they would install them, as they had to take of the fixtures anyway. I did buy new fixtures. The job was finished in one day, everything was cleaned up and you would never had known they were there. I would also like to compliment Andrea, who mans the phones at Above and Beyond. She kept in touch with me on scheduled activities and called after the work was done to make sure I was happy. I am very, very happy with how my house looks, and highly recommend this company!!

Shai over-promised and under-delivered. We chose Above and Beyond because of their reported attention to detail and commitment to providing us a nice, finished basement and in a timely manner (estimated one month, took about 2+ months with work unfinished). We were very clear on the scope of work from the beginning of this project. He even called all of his workers to meet at the house as the same time, so they ?were all on the same page.? The work started off great, but as the work continued, Shai came to the house less and less and gave little direction to the work that went on at my house. I had to constantly check the work and send pictures/requests via text asking him to take care of the very apparent mistakes and oversights, including gaps between dry wall and stairs, uneven walls that make the electrical plates bend, metal straps that were left in the drywall and protruding out, rough edges were the dry wall was just left visible, and so on. Shai?s team also dry walled over a brand new intake vent, and when we told him about the vent, he said his team looked at it and could not find it, thus keeping it closed rather than trusting us and taking our word for it. My husband had to carve into the ceiling to PROVE that the vent was there, and when the worker came the next day to ?fix? the vent, he dry walled and textured over it AGAIN. The same thing happened when we asked them (as part of the scope of work) to removed conduit on the inside of the house. We told them all the electrical had been disconnected. However, his ?master electricians? apparently couldn?t figure out if the wire was hot, and again, it took me and my husband cutting the wires and sending pictures to PROVE that the conduit could be removed. Using Above and Beyond caused us more additional work on ourselves than we had anticipated. We decided to paint the basement ourselves, and with all the additional work that needed to happen AFTER the painting, we ended up spending even more of our time, our money to go over what should have been ready for us (removal of pipe, finishing of the handrail, mounting of the handrail, covered vent in the laundry room, completed work in the closet, etc.). Above and Beyond would have had to call painters back to our house 2-3 times had the paint been part of your responsibilities. We are most upset about the finished quality/appearance of the basement. The dry walling in the closet (which is open to a main room) still has mud and unfinished edges. The dry wall is still a rough edge in our storage closet. There are still gaps between the wall and carpet on the steps. The wall is still uneven under two of the wall switch plates, making them look bowed and cockeyed. These are all basic parts of a remodel and scope of work. We also had to hire an additional cleaning crew for the basement and basement bathroom. There was texture spray inside our air ducts, over the light bulbs, behind the door, IN THE SHOWER, and all over the floor. They also had to clean the door frames that were covered in texture as well as our washer and dryer. This is just one of many additional expenses we assumed using Above and Beyond. We had to buy additional vent covers. The vent covers were on ALL ducts, removed for dry wall, and some were never found again. We had to throw away two curtains, including the one in the back room upstairs because they were filled with texture and dry wall mud. We also had to buy all new plates as they were covered too. I was sad that this was the way workers would take care of my property. Above and Beyond CHARGED US TO REMOVE THEIR OWN TRASH FROM OUR HOUSE. This trash was a result of the basement remodel, including the wood, boxes, and insulation batts that were left behind, just thrown in our storage closet. Most of this could have been alleviated had Shai been a better communicator. Shai told me that he was "going out of town for a few days," and it turned out to be that he went to Israel for a couple months. At that time our communication with Shai became very limited and I would hear from him rarely via email. I had to call his office assistant to ASK if workers were coming to my house, and then I had to communicate myself with his workers to ask them to come and finish the work that was agreed upon. We never heard back about our concerns as mentioned above, and we would not recommend Above and Beyond to anyone.

The review is highly exaggerated. I liked working for the Owners, initially, but toward the end, as they had more pressure to complete the work and leave town, the Owner just lost it. I'm sorry to say this, although I understand remodeling projects can be stressful and overwhelming, especially if doing one for the first time. Yes, we did have an issue with a covered duct and an electrical conduit that needed to be cut, but these and others were all punch-list type items, typical of items that need to be taken care of toward the end of a project, and definitely not major break downs. I had outlined all the items that needed to be finished before I went out of town (Yes, I do try go on vacation once a year. No, it was definitely not for two months as the Owner says- just two and a half weeks). As a business owner, you always expect to have to keep in touch with the office while on vacation, it's just part of the program. However, during this trip, I began getting calls from the office almost every day, sometimes two or three times a day, which indicated we had a problem at this job. The Owner had been calling the office, accusing us of not showing up to complete the work and of lying about it. She seemed angry and not quite rational. I talked to my crew, who assured me they had been calling and trying to get in contact with the Owner, left several messages, as well as having gone by to do the work only to find out they could not get in the house because the key had not been left in the agreed upon location. It got to where, finally, my worker waited at the site until the Owner arrived and then showed her that he did have her correct telephone number by dialing it in front her so that she could hear her phone ring ring. After making arrangements, I called the Owner myself and told her I was assigning someone else to come over and take care of any items that still needed to be attended to, whether they were part of the original contract or not. At an expense which was not insignificant, I had a worker spend two to three days taking care of all detail work with no questions asked. Obviously, at that point this was not a good situation, but we did do what we felt had to be done. I realize that remodeling can be stressful, and that, unfortunately, you can't always please everyone. I did initially like working for the Owners, and I wish them all the best in the future.

Shai gave me an estimate in April, saying the work would be done in late May to early June. In early June he called to say he would call me in early July. When I hadn't heard from him by July 14th I called him and didn't get a call back within 24 hours. Of course, after I initiated the refund, he called to say they would start next week, but given the weather, I decided to go another route. No hard feelings, but better communication would have been appreciated.

Actually, I heard about this for the first time when I talked to the Owner, NOT after I already knew about it, as she claims. Actually, we had indeed rescheduled for July, and were right on track to perform the work according to the new schedule. Actually, we worked quite hard to be able to meet this schedule, so it was a little disappointing to hear that the Owner decided To cancel at the last moment. I apologize if we didn't have better communication. No hard feelings. Good luck with your project.

They did an awesome job. I liked everything. They were prompt. They were courteous and very professional. The owner gave us the blow by blow of everything they were going to do and they did it. Everything they said they were going to do, they did it in a timely fashion. They work was flawless. I've never saw a stucco team work so well. It was like choreographed. These knew what they were going to do. There was prep work in the beginning, so they came and they did the prep work. It took them about a day to do that. And then they scheduled a time to come and do the actual stucco itself. A team just came in and you know these guys work together, because they were choreographed. I don't think I would consider anyone else for stucco.

Hi, (submitted on 7/5/14): I'm guessing the F's and D's were entered by mistake, because of the positive verbal review, and an additional communication I got from the Owners after the work was completed in which they said they loved the work. I hope to get the reviews updated very shortly in order to clear this confusion.

It did take a couple of attempts to get a response but when Shai came to my house he was very friendly and knowledgeable, He didn't try to sell me the more expensive option and I went with the traditional stucco. He gave me a color card and then the addresses of some houses I could look at with these colors which was helpful. I had to wait 2.5 months for the work to be done which was more than he originally indicated but that wasn't a huge concern and there was communication and visits during that period. The only slight annoyance was I left work a couple of times to meet him and he cancelled at the last minute. Fortunately I'm not hourly although he did ask me that and I had the impression he probably would have given some consideration if I had been. They did a good job and the stucco looks great. He sent his crew back the next day to spray the walls down as it rained that night and they filled a small spot that was missed behind a rock. I would use Above and Beyond again if I had general contract work I needed to have done.

Everything went great. Purchased 3 of his coupon stucco work due to the size of my house, late last year and waited for improved weather to get house work done. After considering several contractors to restucco my home, I selected ABOVE & BEYOND HOME IMPROVEMENT, and I definitely made the RIGHT choice! Before we started the project, Shai was very helpful to provide samples of certain colors I was interested in for my home. He carefully explained what the job would entail, pointed out the repairs that he would be doing and worked with me on scheduling the start of the project. All repairs were made and left to cure for a few days. The crew that worked on my home were always just great to answer all my questions and very, very careful all the way through the job to move things away from the house and then put them back in the exact places they belonged. They removed all outside fixtures and then replaced them. They taped and masked everything - windows, doors, etc, anything that was not to be stuccoed. With a large crew working, it only took 2 days to finish the job and the final clean-up was just as though they had never been here! Except that I had a gorgeous new coat of synthetic stucco on my home!! I am so very pleased and neighbors / friends have stopped by to say ... WOW! LOOKS TERRIFIC! Very, very happy with ABOVE & BEYOND and would recommend to anyone needing new stucco ! BEST OF ALL.. GREAT price !

I originally contacted Above and Beyond to get a quote on some stucco for my home (one of three companies I contacted). I was impressed with Shai and his combination of expertise and lower price relative to the others. When I contacted him three weeks after the initial quote to get a contract initiated, I didn't hear back from him in a very timely manner. It was roughly another three weeks before we were able to connect. I was (no kidding) actually looking on Angie's List for other stucco contractors when he finally called me back. I didn't want to go through the hassle of getting quotes from other contractors again (time off work, etc.). So, I decided to give Above and Beyond the business despite the communications problems. I have to say, that I'm glad I did. I had expressed my concerns about communication to Shai, and he responded by making sure I was well-informed about everything that took place throughout the whole process. He told me that they were going to tentatively schedule my stucco work two weeks after we signed the contract, but informed me that a lot of factors might force us to adjust that schedule (things like weather, if other jobs took more/less time than expected, etc.). It worked out that the crew was able to come a few days earlier than I had expected to do the initial patching and repairs. The crew came and was very efficient, worked hard, and cleaned up thoroughly after themselves. Four days later (after the initial coat cured), they were back out to do the color coat. The crew worked with the same efficiency and attention to detail they did the first time, and the end result looks great (at least the stucco does, I still need to paint the rest of the house to coordinate with the new color).

I want to cancel a recent deal I had for stuccoing a house. When the contractor came to my house to talk about the deal...all of a sudden it was more than $2000. higher in price for his estimate. That is higher than it should be and I do not have an extra $2000. over what I have already committed.

A refund was issued to this job. the quote we gave was, indeed, about $2,000 higher than the cost of The Big Deal. It had to do with the actual size of the house and upgrading to synthetic stucco. It was certainly NOT because I "all of the sudden" decided to charge more. It's not how we do business. We hope the Owner finds a suitable application for her budget, and wish her all the best.

He was just a great guy. Even as a businessman, he quoted a fair price. He was very professional and we might have had some problems but he's been very great with coming back.

I can't answer because I haven't recieved anything from Aboe and Beyond, not even acknowledgement, I expected more proffesionalism, at least some start date and time. I have schedule with my life.
Description of Work: the provider only came out and gave a cost, we haven't heard from him, at all, we have called and no acknowledgement back.

Angie's list members please note: WE HAVE NOT PERFORMED ANY WORK ON THIS HOUSE AS OF THIS DATE! On Monday, 3/31/14, the Owner called me and told me they decided to accept my proposal. I thanked him, and asked him to sign the contract and mail it in. We received it that same week on Friday, 4/4/14. We were, therefore, quite surprised when the Owner called on Monday morning, 4/7/14 and accused us of grossly neglecting to communicate with him. He did not seem to believe us when we told him we just received his mail that Friday, but we weren't lying about it, nor do we have any reason to. I have seen spoke to the Owner to try to clear the air about this, then followed up with a tentative schedule for the installation. Than, a couple of days later they wrote me back to tell me their choice of color. In my opinion this review is premature, unjustified, and probably should not have been submitted. I hope the Owner feels the same way once the work is done. We plan to accomplish that by doing what we always do- provide excellent, attentive and professional service.no less and no more.

It was a good experience. They were very personable and very explanatory but they went over everything with me so I would know exactly what was going on, I appreciated that.
Description of Work: I had a big deal purchased at Above & Beyond Home Improvement for $2499 for a complete house restock or repair of materials included last February. I ended up spending more than that because it's only limited to a certain amount of square footage and my square footage went over that but they went over everything with me prior to the actual job.

Shai coordinated his team's work with the company that did our replacement windows. First they followed the window installers with patch and prep work for the stucco. Just a few days later, they returned and completed the new stucco application in a single day. They were fast working, very professional and cleaned up after themselves completely. We would definitely recommend them.

Although I had asked if synthetic stucco was an option via email prior to my purchase - meaning for this deal, the provider responded yes they do synthetic stucco. It turned out that synthetic stucco was not included for this deal and therefore the total cost would be in excess of $8,000 which I clearly cannot afford to do. The provider was very cordial and I could tell he would have done quality work but, again, had I known that synthetic stucco was not at the offered price, I would never have purchased the deal. Thank you.
Description of Work: The offer was to stucco a whole house up to 2000 sq ft.

To the members of angie's List reading this review please note: WE NEVER DID ANY WORK ON THIS HOUSE!! To the homeowner, I'm sorry if there was a misunderstanding. We let you know that our company does do synthetic stucco applications, which obviously you took to mean that we would do a synthetic finish at the cost of the advertised promotion (which clearly stated "...for 2000 sq. ft. of traditional, El Rey stucco.."). Once we met and discussed all this, I felt that the homeowner was very cordial and understanding. Thank you for that, and please do not hesitate to contact us in the future. One more important detail: The actual area that I measured was far larger than 2000 sq. ft., which is why this job would have cost around $8000. It DOES NOT mean that a synthetic stucco job will cost over 3 times more than a similar, traditional stucco job. Since it can be interpreted that way from this review, I wanted to make sure I clarified this. Thank you, Shai Shelhav Above &Beyond
