We did , indeed, give both a verbal quote during the initial site visit, at which time the Owners indicated the price was too high for their budget. We later followed up with a phone conversation ( I know this for a fact because I made the call), at which the Owners said they still weren't interested and were going to "take this in a different direction".. I am assuming they were going to look into painting or fog-koting the walls. I realize that restuccoing can be an expensive ordeal. We can try to give the best deal possible, but it can still end up costing thousands of dollars, especially if you have a larger-than-average home or a 2 story home. I understand that getting a good deal and still not being able to afford it can be frustrating, but I think the manner in which the Owners chose to present their frustration is- at best- very amateur. I'm sorry it didn't work out

Description of Work: I needed to have the house re stuccoed. Also the roof. They have done the roof so far and I am very pleased. They were friendly, polite and I feel they really put their hearts into doing a very good job. I still need to move forward on the stuccoing.

Shai was personable and knowledgeable when he came for the estimate. The stucco repair was amazing: there is no indication that the stucco was ever damaged. The painting was careful and complete with clean edges, thorough coverage, and even minor structural repairs when they came across a problem. The gutter installation looks great. All work was very professional and they left no mess when they finished. Lenny frequently checked up on the work as it progressed. We plan to use them for future work.
Description of Work: We needed stucco repair at several places around our home and we needed the exterior woodwork repainted. We also decided to install new roof gutters to preclude similar damage to the stucco in the future.

The crew came and did some patching. Days later after the patch job was dry they showed up and finished the stucco to perfection. The color was exactly what we chose. The house looks brand new. We can't say enough about this company. They were friendly, on time and the crew and foreman worked hard. Afterwards they cleaned up the area and it looked better than before the stucco job. We would certainly hire this company again. They are professional.
Description of Work: We needed new stucco on our home. We contacted four contractors, but after meeting Shai we knew we wanted his company to do the job. He seemed to know what we needed to have done and was very informative and even helped with color choice when we had trouble deciding. He did not try to sell us more than we needed. He didn't have to watch over his employees, but would check in to make sure everything was going well. His crew knew their jobs very well and were very polite. We never even saw them take a break.

Shai and crew restuccoed my house EXACTLY the way I wanted it done, and at a very reasonable price. What was unusual about this job is that a previous handyman had used silicone caulk to cover minor cracks in the surface of the original stucco, and the caulk looked really bad. The contractors I interviewed who wanted to stucco over the cured silicone caulk were not hired because I didn't want to take the chance that in 10 or 15 years, the stucco would start failing. Shai agreed to remove the silicone caulk from the surface BEFORE starting the restucco. It was a pretty miserable operation, with masonry dust all over everybody, but the removal of the silicone caulk was done to my satisfaction. The crew then did a masterful job of restuccoing. They beautifully stuccoed the roof parapets too. They also matched the trim/garage door paint to the stucco. The house looks better than it did brand new!
Description of Work: Removed a large amount of unsightly silicone caulk from the original stucco. Restuccoed the entire house, including parapets, and patched and painted courtyard walls. Provided extra stucco and extra paint at my request.

BUYER BEWARE: There's nothing that can be done about our situation but we wanted to take the time to share our experience so you can avoid what we went through with this business. Remember: the best predictor of the future is the past. SUMMARY: This contractor will not do what he promises to do, when he promises to do it, and how he promises to do it - and then he'll charge you full price. They will also be careless with your personal items. (We gave him an "F" on all with the exception of a "C" on "Quality" because Rick did a good job with the drywall and flooring. We would have given him an "A" if it were just him; but unfortunately, someone else did part of the work too - so that person's score - averaged with his = a "C" in our estimation). DETAILS: We purchased this company's "deal" after reading some favorable reviews about Shai's work; however, suspect now that these were written by family and friends because Shai doesn't DO work (or at least didn't do any of our work): he hires others to do it. So that's one thing you should know. Here are some other things we experienced: 1. When Shai arrived to estimate our job, he looked at the work (including some tile and grout we had already purchased for the new floor), said it would be no problem to get the two things above in using the deal purchased (and maybe even more) and ended by saying that he would be back before the scheduled work date to allow the person doing the work to determine what would need to be purchased ahead of time and get started as soon as they arrived on the work date. Shai said he would call to let us know when this might be. This struck us as odd - partly because we were assuming that Shai was there to determine exactly this and would be coordinating this with the person doing the work. (We also didn't want to schedule another house visit before the work got done because we both work more than full time and have hectic schedules.) Because of this last point, we also emphasized that we wanted the two days to be back-to-back so we wouldn't have all of our things from the closet all over the house for days/weeks on end. He assured us this would be no problem so we rearranged our work schedules to be at least partially available while the work was being done at the house. 2. Shai never called, so we had to call him to ask when he and this mysterious "worker" were coming and he said they weren't - - that they would just come the morning of and have to get the materials then. He said this time (to get the materials) would NOT be charged agains the job since they weren't going to do it until the "day of." 3. Shai then called the morning of the "day of" (a Thursday) to let us know that his worker was having car trouble and was going to be late. He then called about an hour later to say that the worker wasn't going to be showing up at all because of the car trouble. He said he would bring the worker to our home himself the next day to start the job and they would work "a long day" to catch up. Of course, because this was a Friday - and he knew we wanted the job completed in the two days promised - he said he would ask the worker to come back the next day, on Saturday, to finish. 4. Their "long day" (which started late - with no apologies) consisted of coming around 9:45 and leaving around 5:45 - - which INCLUDED a lot of time wasted in showing this new person ("Rick") the job, talking about what was needed, and someone going to get it from the store. This also included several breaks which weren't supposed to be charged against work time but were. 5. At the end of the work day during our dinner, very loud, painful noises were made and we noticed that poor Rick was having to use a very small, flimsy hand-saw (like, one with a 6" blade) to cut very rough pieces of baseboard, which was, again, very odd because there was an electric table saw in our front yard. His doing it by hand took a lot longer than it would have with the table saw, adding time. At the end of the day, someone named "Lenny" showed up to take Rick home. We asked Rick about finishing the next day and he said he would have been glad to but no one (meaning Shai or Lenny) was willing to bring him back to finish on Day 2, as promised. 6. Shai left on vacation and we didn't hear from him. One of us also had a week-long trip out of town, so our closet was undone during that period. When we e-mailed, Shai replied to say that Lenny would contact us. Lenny called and we set up a date for him to bring Rick back (two weeks after the original start date). Again, we were promised that Rick would work "a long day" to catch up, but they arrived around 9:45 and left around 4:30 that day. 7. In the meantime, Rick still had no car, and neither Lenny nor Shai were there, so guess who had to run to the store (actually, two stores) to purchase things that were needed because the job wasn't estimated correctly?? (Hint: it wasn't Shai, Rick, or Lenny). This took approximately two hours, during which it is unclear what work got done because Rick did not have what was needed to continue. 8. The job was STILL not done at the end of two (short) days, so once more, we had to rearrange our work schedules to accommodate Lenny's return. When he showed up, surprise, surprise! He said he had to go back to Home Depot to get more materials! We commented, "Great, you can paint this wall (the only one remaining because WE had done 80% of the painting ourselves the weekend prior, even though it was supposed to have been included in the deal) and it can be drying while you're gone so you can put the shelving on top of it." Lenny's response? - "Or you can do it yourselves." (9. Lenny also told us (remember - this was two weeks later) - that the aforementioned table saw had blown a circuit on our front porch the last time they were there. No one had mentioned this to us!! - - but it may explain why our spa's program settings had gone off/on and, thus, burned up a lot of energy trying to get to 100 degrees when we had set it on 88 degrees for the summer. Thanks, guys.) 10. Lenny then made the comment that we had used all of the hours included in the deal - so whatever work he did that day would be extra - by the hour. WHAT??? We told him that was not true because they hadn't even yet worked the 16 hours included in the deal yet. He left and went out to his truck, and - wouldn't you know - two minutes later - the phone rang and it was Shai - - who demanded to know "what the problem was with the hours." We explained that the 16 full hours had not been worked yet and he adamantly disagreed, insisting that "I have to be paid." We remarked, "Isn't it funny that YOU want US to pay for time you did NOT spend working but you don't want to pay US for OUR TIME when WE have to do YOUR work for YOU (the store, the painting, etc.)?" He didn't know what to say so said that he would "grant us ONE hour", bringing the total to 15 hours (of the 16-hour "deal"). He also insisted that "the tile was extra", even though, as stated above, we showed him the tile and grout upon his first visit so he knew all about it!!! 11. That day, Lenny worked FIVE HOURS to essentially put up FIVE SHELVES. He did not paint the unfinished wall and he did not even finish painting a piece of baseboard that Rick had left or screw the switch plate back on the wall (which we did later, sans one of the screws for it which they lost). At the end of the day, he charged us for ALL these four hours - - and - - just wanting them out of our house at this point - we paid it. And then spent another weekend working on the closet that "Above and Beyond" was supposed to finish. 12. Instead of just using brackets to stabilize two shelving units as we'd asked (because they were sentimental family items/heirlooms), Lenny simply drilled screws through the wood into the wall - splitting the shelving. Not a huge deal in this case, but it makes you wonder if they know what they are doing and just goes to show you how careless they will be with YOUR things. They also broke a sugar dish and did not offer to pay for it and dropped wet grout all over our outdoor rug and did not hose it off. SLOPPY and LAZY. A few weeks passed, and then a bit fat envelope arrived in the mail saying that we owed Shai roughly $192.00 for materials purchased. We wrote him an e-mail, explaining why we felt this was completely inappropriate and excessive, including the above reasons PLUS the fact that they also DID NOT FINISH the door frame. (Rick patched the holes but did not sand or paint them). We included photos of the unfinished closet/storage space (which had been taken before we completed it ourselves) and said we would pay what we owed but it would be his choice to cash our check and that we would consider writing this review (and one for the Better Business Bureau) if he did. We put a check for the materials in the mail and did not hear ANYTHING for a month. Then Shai sends us an e-mail, saying that he had been "too busy" to respond, arguing with everything we said and saying he was going to cash our measly check OR PUT A LIEN ON OUR HOUSE. (!!!) The next day, he cashed the check. So here we are. In conclusion, we just want to say that we do not fall into the category of some who do not empathize with small business owners because - like Shai - we operate our own business. Unlike Shai, we don't ask for payment from our clients unless and until they are satisfied and would never allow $191 and some odd cents to jeopardize our entire reputation. Apparently, all he cares about is the money - that's IT.
Description of Work: Contractor was hired to: 1) Create new storage space under stairs by removing existing shelving in utility closet, opening space under stairs, adding drywall, adding tile floor, painting walls, and re-installing shelving; and 2) Patch holes in door frame where hinges had been, sand, and paint.

There are more inaccuracies, half truths, 1/4 truths and straight out false facts in this review than one could possibly address. We bent over backwards repeatedly to try to make the Homeowners happy. Apparently, they would not have been satisfied with anything less than not paying for the work at all. We're sorry to hear you were not happy. I guess you can't please every single person you work for, and on occasion you come across someone who is downright impossible. I'm sorry it didn't work out.

I interviewed 3 people and decided to go with Above and Beyond Home Improvement. Above and Beyond Home Improvement had an Angie's List deal going on but that was not the entire reason for hiring them. I just felt they were the best choice. We met to discuss what I wanted to do in detail. I wanted to make a few other changes that would need to be contracted out. The provider took care of all that and made suggestions that I went with and I am very glad I did.The provider had his crew prepared the old stucco for the new and patched the many areas that were cracked and needed patching. While waiting for the patches to dry and cure, I went with a list that provider sent me and looked at different houses in the 3 colors that were my favorites. I chose the one for me and the stuccoing began. It became obvious that not only the owner was a good person to work with but so were his workers. They were knowledgeable, courteous, friendly, answered all my questions, and pointed things out to me when I went outside. On the last day just before they finished I realized I had forgotten to tell them to remove the old Comcast cable. It was done within minutes and the little holes patched up. They were an exceptional crew and I was very comfortable being around them. The companies that were contracted to help with the other things I wanted done, were also very good and their work was well done. Driving up to my house puts a smile on my face every time.

I really couldn't be any happier. I gave Above and Beyond a difficult task because they had to work around other repairs I was having done to my home. Above and Beyond was much more versatile in their home improvement skills than I expected, which was wonderful since I needed more than just stucco for my home. This made getting everything done much easier since I was going through Shai for 3 of the projects. Shai scheduled everyone perfectly. All of the workmen and supervisors were prompt, professional, skilled, and courteous. The prices may have not been the lowest, but I feel that I got more than my money's worth due to the outstanding job everyone performed and their attention to detail. I have learned through the years that cheaper is usually not better. Getting a great job for a good, competitive price is always my goal. My home looks wonderful with the new stucco. Perfect color and texture. The Stucco foreman/supervisor had over 20+ years of experience. He came back to my home many times to make sure the stucco was curing correctly. This attention to detail and pride in workmanship was evident in every aspect of the project. I have had my roof repaired before, but this was, without a doubt, the best job and most thorough. I feel totally safe to face the summer monsoons this year. I would highly recommend Above and Beyond Home Improvements to anyone for home improvement projects.

He was supposed to come to give me an estimate and I waited and waited. He did not come but later said he had written down the wrong day. He did come the next day. He came to give me an estimate on Stucco work and then I also asked for an estimate on new gutter. He gave me a verbal estimate for each project, but I wanted a written estimate. He was supposed to e-mail it to me. However, I had to ask twice for it. It was finally sent to me after the second request, but the two projects were combined and I got one amount, rather than a separate estimate for the stucco and the gutter. Also the estimate for the gutter work just said downspouts rather than listing how many downspouts. I expected separate estimates and a detailed list of what would be installed for the gutter work. I asked for a sample gutter and he did drop a sample by. I did write to him said I had not received an estimate and he said he had sent me a stucco estimate (e-mail) on May 6th. I carefully check and I never received it. The next estimate was a combined one for stucco and gutter which he acknowledged. He was friendly and nice to talk with but the estimates were not done the way I would have expected. I have arranged for another company to do the gutters and am working on the stucco estimates.

Members of Angie's List reading this review please be aware: WE HAVE NOT DONE ANY WORK ON THIS HOUSE WHATSOEVER! Yes, I had put down the initial appointment on the wrong day in my calendar. I apologized to the Owner about it and met with her the next day. I answered all her questions and gave her all the information she requested. I provided one estimate that detailed the price for the stucco work by itself, as well as the price for both stucco and gutters. I later explained to the Owner that she did receive the information she requested. She complained that she did not receive my estimate, but I did send it. I checked my "Sent" folder and it was sent. there was no delivery failure message or other indication that it did not go through. I did re-send it, but at this point I didn't really appreciate the Owner's insinuating that I was less than truthful with her, because I wasn't. I believe her that she did not receive the electronic correspondence we sent her, either because of machine or human error, and I expected her to equally believe me. I was honest and straight forward with her throughout the process, and I tried to be helpful. I got her actual gutter samples which I had to acquire from my supplier and have cut. This wasn't a problem, it's just worth mentioning because normally a color swatch is sufficient (she was going to go with White). My point is, sometimes there isn't a good match between us and the homeowner. If that is the case, or you think my price is too high, that is okay- You don't have to hire us. Not giving us the business is "punishment" enough. There is no need to write a negative review in addition to that, especially if we have not wronged you in any way other than we were unsuccessful at earning your business. At any rate, these are my 2 cents on this one. I wish the Owner well and good luck with this future project. From my experience, I think the Owner was someone who was not going to be satisfied no matter what we did, so I actually had a small sense of relief when I heard she was not going to do it.

Work went well. Our project was done long-distance. We live in Maryland and were paying for repairs on a house in Albuquerque so all communications were handled via mail or email. Despite this, everything went pretty smoothly. We were provided with pictures of work as it progressed. I would hire this company again to complete some additional work we anticipate doing. Head of the company was always courteous to deal with and provided paper contracts and invoices to as whenever we requested.
Description of Work: Restocked house, replaced gutters, painted trim, replace roof, installed skylights.

We purchased this "deal" in late September, and the weather was already becoming unacceptable for a good stucco job. We told Shai we would be happy to wait until spring. He called several times during the winter to let us know that he hadn't forgotten us, and when the weather turned he was right here! His men did a fantastic job - they were here each day earlier (by 15 minutes!) than expected, they went about their business expertly, and cleaned up beautifully. At the end of each day you wouldn't know they had been here (except for the look of the house). They worked throughout the day and as far as I coud tell these guys didn't even take a break! They went above and beyond - even patching and re-stuccoing our horno! All in all, they did a marvelous job! Our house looks like new, and we would recommend Shai and Co. without hesitation to any and all. He is terrific!!

Thank you for the review. I'm glad it went fine. (This job was performed on a house in Los Alamos County, which was definitely outside the deal area. The Owners were Promptly notified of the added cost, and we proceeded with the job Only after we obtained their approval). At any rate, I'm glad everything went well. Thank you for the business.
