ABC Appliance Repair

Technician told me that our 5 year old refrigerator needed a new compressor. Since the quote was over $700, I chose not to have him replace the compressor. Instead I ordered a new refrigerator. When I called Albuquerque Appliance Training to inquire about having the old refrigerator hauled, Andre, Master trainer/technician, asked what the problem was. He said it sounded like and easy repair and was most likely not the compressor. He and his assistant picked up, repaired (replaced the control board and relay), and returned the refrigerator for a total of $350. I contacted the BBB since ABC Appliance Repair would not respond to my phone calls. ABC Appliance Repair said they would refund the $63.13 that I paid for the service call/misdiagnosis, but they never did.

Appointment was initially set up for early evening yesterday but a call from the servicer indicated he was in our area and could he stop by then. He arrived as he stated and figured out the problem very quickly. The fix was merely to to turn down the freezer and refrigerator temperatures. He was professional and friendly. The charge was included with the service call. We used them before and were very pleased with their service.

Norman inspected the refrigerator because the freezer side was running warm. He did some test and found out that the fridge had a bad starter He replaced the starter and showed me the old starter which was burnt from the inside causing my refrigerator to run warm. Norman was very professional because he went over the cost to replace the starter with me.

Technician was on, efficient, and very pleasant to have in our home, very professional.

I had an appointment from 4-6. I came home from work and 10 minutes before 4 I received a call stating they wouldn't be able to make the appointment. It was explained that an emergency had come up with the technician and there was nothing that could be done. I was offered an appointment for the next day that wouldn't work for me. I stated that I needed someone ASAP and was unhappy that I couldn't be fit in their schedule even though I had an appointment. I was then told that I should probably go with another company. UNBELIEVABLE!! Very unprofessional and I will no longer use them for anything.

The repairman arrived within scheduled time and checked several things before finding the one issue that was causing the leak. He then promptly fixed it and gave me some advice on what further I might want to do, but that wasn't immediately necessary. I felt the price was reasonable for the job done. No parts were needed. I would call again for other issues.

It worked until about 3 weeks ago when I saw water on the floor behind the fridge again. I have called but only get the answering machine and they never called back. I am getting it fixed by another company now.

This is a continuation of the service on the GE side by side refrigerator referenced in a previous review. The initial service was completed on 7/10/15-- a new mother board and freon recharge was done for $442. The side by side worked for a while then stopped working. Since it was still under warranty I called ABC back to go out and check it again. The tech went out on 8/25/15 and repaired what he described as a defrost failure with a new defrost timer, heater and thermostat which cost $289.00 because their warranty on the work done on the first visit did not cover it. My tenants told me last week end that the side by side has been working intermittently so I assumed it was a thermostat issue which would still be under warranty.. So I called ABC on Sat. 10/17/15 and they said the same technician would have to work on it again and was off that day and would call me back to go out there. I called again today because I did not hear back. Although the person answering the phone verified that the message to the technician went through, she was very curt and ended the call quickly. I had to call her back again to make sure she had my phone #. As I said in my previous review, I did approve the repairs and had second thoughts about my approval due to the age of the unit and the costs of repairs. No one forced me to approve them. However, if the intermittent cooling of the refrigerator is occurring, they can at least let me know if it could be the thermostat issue already repaired or just tell me that they no longer want my business. Also, my sense is that this is more of a management issue rather than a technical issue. These two previous sentences are the reasons for this rating.

I ended up not using the service; however, the provider was very courteous and professional. They called me even after the expiration of the deal and offered to come out to complete the work. I was impressed.

The first person who came out was the one who did the repairs. He was not timely. They gave me a 2.00-4.00 time that he would appear at the house and he didn't appear until 5.30. When I was trying to get a quote for the magnetron, he called me on his cellphone but I couldn't answer because I was at work. I called him back and he wasn't responding. He was not working at that time because it was off hours and it was his personal cellphone, but I didn't know that. I think they have logistic issues to work out at the office. When I called the office to get the quote for the work, she said she didn't know because she hadn't had from the technician came out. I would press for better communication.

The tech said it would cost more to repair the machine than a new machine would cost, he guessed it would be between 350 and 400 to repair it, it would take two techs to make the repair, so I said I would need to shop for a new machine. In the meantime, I went to www.geapplianceparts.com and described the situation to a person at fallon.clark@ge.com he was able to find the part I needed - # WH38X10017 which is a "washer shaft & mode shifter assembly". The part cost $202.50 plus they have a special promotion right now which would take off 15% and free shipping. I called Ray to see what the labor cost would be. He advised that he could not make a repair with a customer supplied part because he would not be able to warranty it and that he had to buy the part locally so the cost of the part would be higher. Also, he said that he had just checked on his labor price for this repair, and it would be $395.00 because it would require 2 technicians to make the repair.' I'm just providing all this detail because it didn't leave a good impression for me. Why do you have to buy parts locally when you can get a fair price direct from the manufacturer. I would expect to add on some additional for the repair company to purchase the part, but it should still be reasonable. A guess of $350 to $400 for the entire job, is still much lower than the $395 for labor only. In the future, I won't send a tech away without a written estimate, especially when you pay for the service call in the first place. i

The tech was punctual, polite and clean. He arrived within the window that was scheduled.

I have used this company in the past and had wonderful service. When my dryer element went out at the same time I had company coming into town, I called ABC and they worked with me to get a technician out as soon as possible. The person in the office worked with me to get the appointment and the technician was great! The repair was done quickly and very well. I will absolutely use this company again and I recommend them to others.

The technician with ABC Appliance Repair arrived timely and was very professional. The problem was diagnosed quickly and was repaired professionally. I will definitely use ABC Appliance Repair again!

Ray came within the two hours I was quoted. He called before he arrived. He was courteous and professional. He explained and showed me what was broken and then priced the repair. After I accepted, he did the work. When he was done he showed me the new unit and compared it to the old broken one so I could see the difference. It was a very satisfactory experience and I will use ABC in the future as they work on all manner of appliances.

Norman arrived on time analyzed problems with both appliances. He repaired the dryer. I decided to buy another dishwasher since this one was repaired 3 times due to faulty Maytag design. He was fast, thorough, very neat and professional. This was the 3rd time I used ABC Appliance Repair and I highly recommend them.

They did a great job of repairing my built-in fridge. It needed thickening in the Freon which was a minor cost when they could have charged me a lot more. When they pulled out the fridge they accidentally broke one of the counter tiles - but they were very congenial and nice; the person who broke the tile went out to find one that matched, going to several places to make sure. They were very competent, didn't overcharge and went out of their way to fix this small problem.

Wonderful, arrived on time. Explained everything he was doing. From start to finish everything was wonderful.

The office responded immediately, appointment scheduled for the next day. Repair person called to say he would be at the house within 15-20 minutes, showed up in 35 minutes then sat in the car talking on the phone. When we went to his car to ask what was happening he waived us off. He came into the garage 50 minutes from the time he said he was on the way, he comment was "oh, I was on a conference call with the boss". We asked him to leave, we had been away from our business an hour without a resolution to the problem; therefore we asked him to leave.

It went better than we expected. The fact that you were able to come out on Saturday at no extra charge was a very pleasant surprise. Thanks for all your help. Ray is a knowledgeable and very pleasant and courteous tech. I can't say more than AAA+ for this company!

Service was same day and performed competently. Ray quickly diagnosed the problem, replaced the unit, and provided answers to my questions. Would definitely recommend ABC for service and repair.

Please note: Although the cost of service appears high, it is due to part cost not labor cost. Samsung's heater coil replacement was ridiculously expensive compared to other brands of dryer heater coils. Needless to say - Samsung and I will not be doing business in the future. There was no heat in the dryer. I called Friday (3/20/15) and Ray came out that afternoon. He arrived on time, did the inspection and provided me with an estimate. He ordered the part and told me he would return on Tuesday (3/24/15). Again, he arrived on time and installed the heater coil. He was personable, professional and efficient. I was very impressed with ABC Appliance. They truly know the meaning of customer service! I will call ABC in the future for any appliance issues.

We called ABC when are dryer stopped working. ABC sent out Ray to do the repair. He arrived on time and within just a few minutes was able to tell us what the problem was. Unfortunately, the motor had burned out and Ray didn't carry motors on his truck. However, he immediately called for the part and gave us the price to repair the dryer. About a week later, Ray returned and installed a new motor. Ray was very good about calling us about when he would arrive at our house and if he would be late. During his second visit, Ray looked at one of the drawers in our two-drawer dishwasher. The electronics in it were acting strange. He told us to unplug it and wait for awhile and it might readjust itself. We did that and it worked. He saved us the cost of having someone else work on the machine (it was a Fisher-Paykel and they only allow their repair men to work on their dishwashers) or of replacing it. We were very happy with his service.

My dryer was making a loud squeaking sound. When I moved the washer to look at the dryer, the washer stopped working too. I called ABC Appliance. They had a time available and came out the same day I called. The technician, Ray, diagnosed the problems and fixed them both on the spot. The dryer required the replacement of some parts that had worn out and in the washer a piece had come loose and fell off when I moved it. The technician was friend, efficient, knowledgable, and professional. I'd definitely call them again.
