 + -1 moreMy garage door spring broke with a loud bang at about 9 PM on a Tuesday evening. I called A-1 the next morning at 8 AM. The technician said he would be at our house at 12:30, and he arrived 15 minutes early. He replaced the spring quickly at a cost that was less than I would have guessed. He also lubricated the door drive mechanism, so the door operation is much quieter. The technician, Mike Jackson, is a local small business, which I prefer to patronize when possible to keep the money here in town. Mike was professional, courteous, and quick. My service with A-1 was as good as any repair service I have ever experienced.

Impressed with his commitment to workmanship, willingness to customize if necessary, general concientious attitude. Completed job within estimated time; price remained same as estimate inspite of some unexpected customizing necessary. Reminded me of my idea about "old-fashioned craftsmen", ie took pride in his work and did an excellent job.

 + -1 moreVery good experience. I had Mike out a few months earlier because my garage door was working intermittantly. He warned me that the motor would have to be replaced soon, but didn't pressure me to replace it earlier than necessary. When I decided to paint my house, I realized how bad my garage door was (original 35 yr old door). I decided to just replace the entire thing and remembered the great service I had previously received from Mike. He was timely, tidy, and efficient and never tried to "sell up" on his products. He gave me all the facts about the products he carried and let me decide what to buy. I opted for the high-end door but lower end motor, and he never questioned my decision. I'm very happy with the quality of the product and workmanship.

 + -1 moreI called Mike on a Monday morning to fix my non-functioning garage door opener. He said the next available time he had was on Tuesday which worked fine for my schedule. Mike arrived on time. He promptly showed me the problem (worn threads on a gear) and replaced the defective part. He also observed that the tension on the springs was preventing my door from staying completely open and adjusted the springs. The whole job took 20-30 min.

He did a very professional installation. This was the third time I have called Mike and have been very pleased with his prompt response and professionalism.

 + -1 moreI first called about a misbehaving door a year ago and Mike came out the next day to take a look. When he got here, the door was working. Mike left basic information on doors and a card to contact him if I needed to in the future. That day came recently, when the door could no longer be coaxed to open. I called back and got a quick estimate and installation date. On both occasions he came, Mike was punctual and polite. His quote was right-on and the work done efficiently. He cleaned up the site completely. I will (and have) recommend this company to others. It was great to have somebody who did such a great job.

Mike Jackson came out the same day I called for a quote and I special ordered a garage door that would take a few weeks to come in, which was fine because we were having other work done to the house. When the door came in, Mike called and I told him we were still in the process of having the other work done but he was free to come by to install the door. He suggested I wait until the other work was done so as not to get the garage door dirty by the other work. I was impressed that he was willing to wait to ensure that the garage door wasn't damaged by the other work being done. After the other work was done, we had the garage door installed. We had an alarm system connected to our garage door which he reinstalled on the new door without us asking. Mike was very professional and had a great sense of humor. The door looks great and is quite an improvement from what we had. I'd definitely recommend him.

 + -1 moreIt went very well. Mike was very prompt and professional and did not try to convince us to buy something we did not need. He just explained the options and let us decide what we wanted to do. He replaced the spring and we had him install a "beefier" one since we have had it break a couple of times before. He attempted to repair the opener and when it started having problems again a day or two later we decided to just replace it. We wanted something quieter so Mike recommended a belt drive opener instead of the chain drive like we had. The new opener works flawlessly and the difference in the noise level is amazing.
Description of Work: The spring broke on our garage door and Mike came and replaced it. Trying to raise the door with a broken spring had damaged the opener so Mike came back a couple of days later and replaced the opener.

Description of Work: The door was stuck in the down position with my husband's car in the garage. Mike came out got the door opened and then showed me where the spring had broken. We talked about the pros and cons of replacing the one spring vs. replacing w/ two springs. If it ever happened again we could get the car out.

When he finished, he explained all that he did and why. The result was a great improvement in performance.

Description of Work: I have now had two experiences with this company. They were both super positive and I will describe them. I had just driven into my garage after another long day at work when I heard this thunderous sound. I could not tell if there was a helicopter overhead or if there were gun shots! When I got out of the car there was my garage door hanging precariously above me. I had never seen or heard of anything like this! I called A-1 Garage doors and talked with Mike Jackson. He was at my home in less than an hour and had it fixed! He was exceptionally gracious and professional. I did not know about Angie's list then-or I would have written a review a long time ago! Then, this past Summer, a tenant of mine complained that the garage door was askew. I have been swamped at work, so I asked her to call A-1 Garage doors because of my previous experience. I gave her the number (it is right by the garage door opener in my garage ;0) She later called me and told me that the repair would be about $500 and that if we did not do it then something could smash through a wall and into a bedroom...it sounded so weird I asked if she had called Mike-NO!!!! She had lost the number and called a company that charged me about $200 with out any authorization (they did God only knows what-nothing probably) and wanted to charge me more for all kinds of ridiculous stuff! That was soooooo weird that I myself called A-! Garage Doors! That's when I talked with Mike again and explained my new predicament. FREE OF CHARGE-Mike from A-! Garage Doors went to that house to look it over. He made sure there was no risk of projectile anything that was going to smash through walls and kill people. He assured us that it was all safe. Now that is the kind of thing that actually makes me feel sure that the world can be such a nice place if we treat each other well. So I signed up on Angie's list just to share this story and to send a very special thank you to Mike Jackson of A-! Garage Doors in Albuquerque, New Mexico-YOU ROCK!!!

Description of Work: I asked Mike Jackson to give me a second opinion on a garage door after a company tried to rip me off. (They wanted to put in a new garage door and a new opener.) Mike fixed the door opener in about twenty minutes. Apparently, the first company had messed up the emergency lever when they were here in Friday. So, instead of costing me $2100, A-1 charged me $70.00.
