We got a discount through Angie's List. They did a marvelous job. They have been our regular company for tree work. They cut the trees off and haul them away. We have been with them for probably 30 years. They let us know before they come. We also have them spray the trees sometimes.
Description of Work: They took down a tree. We have hostas, and my wife has a perennial garden.

They have saved couple of my trees from leaf miner. They do try to sell things like doing some more treatments for trees and I don’t like to do unnecessary things and want them to do only specific things. They also saved my hammock tree. The guy who does inspections is very knowledgeable. Their price is fair compared to others. I would rate them high overall. I would use them again in the future.

Please see above. Also note that the company gave me the option of cutting the cherry wood into useable 22" logs for my fireplace which I certainly took advantage of and now have two cords of superb hardwood to use for coming seasons. Charlene in the back office who takes the phone calls was lovely to speak with. I strongly recommend the company and thank them all for the work they performed for me.
Description of Work: During a recent severe wind storm, two large black cherry trees came down over a group of beloved hemlocks in my back yard. In monoritoring my other large trees, I noticed that a very large maple tree that had originally been planted (3 owners ago) too close to the house was overhanging my roof line. I spied large holes from missing limbs and knew that there was impending danger. I called three tree companies. I told each that I was very concerned for the health of my hemlocks which were bent over from the weight of the fallen trees. I wanted to save the hemlocks. I asked each company for an estimate of the work to remove the two cherry trees and to give me an opinion about the large maple. Savatree promptly responded - they were the most professional of the three companies and the only one to view the danger of the maple tree and to give me a quote for removal of the trees and the option of grinding the stumps. The work was quickly and efficiently done - my hemlocks were saved (they actually added a brace to one of the trees to help it along), the front yard tree clearly was shown to be suffering from internal rot by an examination of the cut wood - all the wood was promptly removed and the stump ground.

I called them to set up an appointment and overall they were very friendly . . . . in June. They were punctual for the appointment and my arborist explained everything that I needed to know. I had some branches falling on my house, so he explained what he could and could not do and showed me how my tree also probably needed some fertilization based on the rock bed that was drying out some of the roots. Overall, I was satisfied with the information and I hired them to come do the work. I was told a couple of weeks they should be out to do it. Again, this was mid-June. By end of July, I still had not heard anything. In early August, some other items in my home became necessary to fix, so I called them and cancelled the services, primarily due to lack of any information about when my service would occur and the need to spend the money on some other items. Then a few weeks later I received a call from my arborist regarding my pruning service I had requested. I explained to him the situation and at that time of his call, was rethinking the cancellation due to another branch falling on my home. He told me he could be out in about 7 days due to removing me and re-adding me to the schedule. I said fine as I did not want more branches landing on my home. They came pretty timely at that point and did both services to my satisfaction. However, I would have appreciated some more followup when I was told that a service would occur in a few weeks and 6 weeks + later I still had not heard anything.

Response from SavATree Wyckoff
We certainly understand this client’s frustration over the lack of communication regarding the reasons for the apparent delay. This job was particularly challenging because electrical wires located near the tree made this a hazardous job which meant that special equipment was needed to complete it. In order to keep costs down for the client, which at the time of the consultation he specified as his preference, we waited until we had another job in the area that required the same equipment. In retrospect we should have kept calling the client to let him know what was going on. We’re very happy that we were able to meet all of his expectations otherwise.

Extremely professional....did a very detailed job, also evaluated trees overhanging our property and found two large , dangerously diseased trees which are now scheduled to be taken down, but which could have caused extreme damage if left undetected...completed the needed tree work very professionally including cleaning up, discussed future needs, and took extra time to advise us on a new tree..where to place it and how to prepare it for the winter..sending us an email attachment on care of the new tree.....would recommend to anyone

Arborist came by one morning and looked around my property. He was on time and took the time to explain his recommendations to me. Provided me an estimate and we scheduled a day for the work to be preformed. On the day of the work, everyone arrived on time. Arborist came by throughout the day to check on progress and ensure work was preformed as described. Followed up next day to ensure work was to my satisfaction. Good client service experience, yard / trees look great. Very happy with the work and company

I had two trees that needed to be trimmed to keep squirrels from getting into my house. I wanted to take one of them down, a beautiful silver maple, because I didn't believe it was possible to keep the critters out with just a trim. Steve talked me out of cutting the maple down (saving me about 700.00 or so) and assured me that the squirrels would not be able to use the tree as access to my house after trimming. The maple needed a brace, which cost 200.00+, but Steve said that he would refund me for the brace if i ultimately decided the tree had to come down. So far, so good, its been over one week and the squirrels have not been back - I'm really glad we were able to spare the tree.

The service has always done a good job, but each year I seem to have trouble getting the landscapers to cut the shrubs back when I request it. It seems the workers are hesitant to cut when I ask them to so that lower branches can fill in. In general though, they are very pleasant and knowledgeable.

The arborist arrived just a little late because of car trouble, but once there he was very focused and spent time with us, and amazingly enough he was able to get a crew there that very afternoon so a lot of the work was done the same day, with the rest and some stump-removal done a few days later. We were impressed with their speed and efficiency. Tree service prices always seem awfully high until you see the guys scaling the dizzy heights of oak trees with buzz saws and cutting down branches.
Description of Work: One main, lovely old tree in our yard worried us a bit with some lichen and deadwood, so we asked them in to inspect and tell us whether a large secondary trunk/large branch was dying and weakening the whole tree. They also inspected all other trees on the property and then proposed simply to trim the deadwood but do nothing radical to the large old tree (which gave me some confidence in their recommendation, since we were prepared to hear that a major surgery was necessary - which would have netted them more revenue for sure), to remove an old apple (which, upon cutting, had clearly rotted out through the entire core), and trim deadwood and low-growth suckers on our other threes.

They did everything right. On time, trimmed three of my very big trees, cleaned up great. Chipped and hauled away everything. The estimate was exactly what I paid.
Description of Work: This service was very prompt and punctual. Right on time for the estimate. My contact Brian Brunsch was extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Two of my oaks are huge and about 100 years old and I wanted a trim along with my big maple. Competitive estimate and I waited until the fall to have the job done. They came on time, cleaned up perfectly and even cleaned my gutters. I was very pleased and will hire them again when the time comes for another trim.

It went very well. I found them through Angie's List. The owner came out and spent almost an hour talking to me about the trees and he gave me some tips for the trees they weren't taking down. He was very knowledgeable and trustworthy. The crew spent about three hours on the project. They were very professional. They were mindful of safety issues. They did a very good job.

After I called them, they arranged for their arborist to come over and assess the trees on my property the next day. He arrived on time, described what he noticed and made his recommendations and the rationale behind each. This included several options regarding my oak tree. He also explained how they would do the work. I made my choice and the work was scheduled. Part of this included fertilizing the tree - this was done prior to the pruning. On the day the pruning/removals and cabling were performed, everyone arrived promptly. The arborist introduced me to the team and was there to explain to them exactly what was to be done. They were respectful of my wishes regarding where they parked the noisy wood chipper while they were there. After the work was completed, they did a good job cleaning up the job site. After the team left, the arborist came back to inspect their work and answer any questions I might have.
Description of Work: Removed dead branches and safety-cabled a large oak tree. Removed a smaller tree that was growing too close to my house and several saplings which were competing for nutrients with the oak tree. Also applied in-ground tree fertilizer around the roots of the oak.

I didn't stay home the day of the work. But I came home to find the workers gone all ready and a message that they broke a storm window and are working on getting a replacement. They brought new window in a couple weeks and installed it as promised - no follow up calls needed. They did leave some bark behind. They did drill the stumps out. But the next year I did find some roots that they had missed near the surface. At least now my grass grows in the backyard and it's drier.
Description of Work: Cut down two trees in back yard, trimmed two others. Installed support for cherry tree. I don't recall the price, but they were less than others and above price is around what I paid.

Consultation with arborist on property. Quoted start date in 2 weeks; had to push to get date to begin project at 4-week mark. Completed on 2 different dates within two-week period. After work was done, I had some concerns about second-day's work. A different arborist met me on site to review my concerns. Sent a crew within days to address issues. I feel that emergencies during heavy rains, workers' summer vacations, etc. resulted in the late start and disrupted the flow of work. Crew chief always on job but arborist came to check during day. All operated equipment in safety-first mode; very professional. Have since twice requested stump removal (as an additional item) but am still waiting for date and fee.
Description of Work: Maintenance pruning and tree care for 14 trees on property. Crown cleaning and cabling also required. One tree removed and disposed of; soil removed from base of another.

They also need to change their name.
Description of Work: They took down a dead tree they didnt remove roots and the work was fine and left the wood because it was cheaper. We did not want stump removal. I called Appalachian from our list and he said he was sorry that he didnt get here on time and gave us a quote and said they would come back to do the work in a couple of weeks. We hadnt heard from them in after a month. We called them and they sent someone out and they came to do the work. I called their office because I saw that Appalachian had a discount for seniors through the Bergen county favver program. They told me that they are no longer Appalachian Tree they are now Savatree and the quote was "Savatree has its own pricing policies and did not adopt any of the pricing offered by Appalachian when they took over". I said to them that they need to remove that information from the Bergen county program.

To actually have a company come to our home and test this magnificent tree which we loved so much and looked sick, and then save it instead of just cutting it down, was truly a blessing. This company has professional Arborists who are educated in the field of trees and know when to cut down and also when to save that particular tree which may be dear to you. They are extremely professional, very punctual and will go out of their way to ensure that the quality of their work is exactly what you expect. In our case, we had a tree we loved that had fallen due to a heavy storm. They knew just how to right the tree and now it has recovered and doing fine.
Description of Work: It was determined by testing from one of their arborists that one of our trees could be saved. They also righted one tree and saved it that was practically fallen completely over due to a bad storm. They trimmed 3 large trees and took all garbage with them when they left. There was no stump removal and the pruning process took only a few hours to complete.
