We met at the house. went through the work. I was told I would get a proposal in a week. 3 weeks later I followed up with an email, and later that night I got an email with a proposal for 4 of the items, one being the roof for 14,500. I had previously recieved quotes for between 5000 and 8000 for a new roof for this small ranch house. It was a rushed, high ball incomplete quote. If he didnt want to do the job, he should have told me and not wasted 3 weeks of my time.
Description of Work: I provided a worksheet with 7 items of work, Painting, Kitchen, Bathroom, Windows, new roof, refinish floor, re-wire entire house

Rob from RJT was prom for his meeting, (He actually was at the appointment before we had arrived to our home). He walked through the entire apartment, pointed out several things that he would suggest to make improvements to. Very curtious and extremely nice guy. Before leaving Rob had promised to provide us with a quote within the next day or two. As promised, 2 days later his estimate was in our email inbox. Althought we ended up not using RJT Remodelling because we were able to find someone else to do a full gut and reno for much less then what the RJT's quote was, we would certainly recommend giving RJT an opportunity to bid for your business.
Description of Work: Based on reading reviews on Angies List we invited RJT to come out and give us a quote on some remodeling work that we were planning on doing on our 1300 sq ft apartment in a high rise. We were looking at painting, retiling both bathrooms and replacing both vanities and medicine cabines in both bathrooms.

RJT was able to complete the job to our satisfaction within the time he estimated and at a reasonable price. While we had to stay on top of him at the end to complete the last few punch list items (e.g., painting inside closets), he was able to accommodate changes as we went through the job, even repainting rooms in different colors when we requested. Overall, we were satisfied and would use him again.
Description of Work: Painted the walls in our entire house as we prepared to move in.
His contractors did a great job - looks fantastic. They were extremely neat and punctual. Communications leaved a little to be desired. In one case, he told me that the contractor on site should have told me that someone else was coming later in the day. The next time, the worker DID tell me that someone was coming later but he was wrong and no one showed up. I had to call multiple times to get a response. He came to get the payment but failed to tell me to wait for him so I had already gone to work. I had a problem with some other electrical work I was doing myself, and I asked the electrician who came to help me. He did, and easily solved the problem. I told RJT and they charged me a small amount extra (which they should have).and it worked out for both of us.
Description of Work: Re-did bathroom. I did some of the work. He did some of the work. I bought all fixtures and materials, and painted the room. He installed tile, toilet, sink, mirror, lites. He tore out old flooring and old fixtures and disposed of them.

I have hired RJT remodelling for multiple home improvement projects on both the interior and exterior of my home. I have found Rob Tell to be extremely responsive, professional and competitively priced. I have recommended him to multiple friends in my area who have used him to renovate kitchens, bathrooms and paint their homes. We are very happy with the results of all of the projects. In addition, if there is ever an issue, Rob promptly addresses it for us as part of the original agreed-to price. After having done 10+ projects with him, he has never gone over budget and will often include "extras" at no charge. Some of the people on his team are more detail-oriented than others so if you are a stickler for details, be sure to tell him that upfront.
Description of Work: Multiple home improvement projects: gut renovated two bathrooms, installed overhead or recessed lights in every room in our home, painted entire interior and exterior of home (3000sf), hung blinds on 45 windows, built two closets, re-stained deck, installed a new generator/electrical panel, installed new kitchen backsplash

Rob was the consummate professional, worked with us on every detail, explained the pricing and materials clearly so there was no confusion. He started on time and finished exactly on schedule. He worked with us on issues as they arose, and handled them without stressing us out or using it as an opportunity to upcharge us. There are so many dishonest, untrustworthy contractors that often tarnish the reputation of the industry, and so working with Rob was a breath of fresh air. The quality of the work he did was very high, and he tried to find ways for us to maximize quality without having to pay significantly more. if we ever had any concerns, we would express them and he would immediately resolve them maturely and efficiently. he removed the headache and stress out of the project for us. Rob also handled the submission of insurance paperwork and talking to the insurance company. He was also available via email, phone and text and so it was much easier to work with him. While Rob was a little more expensive then others, it was worth the incremental dollars for the peace of mind with this project.
Description of Work: Rob remodeled a significant portion of our parent's basement, which received significant sewer damage, driving the need to replace floors, walls, insulation, outlets, doors, kitchen countertops, parts of a bathroom and utility room, removal and disposal of significant garbage, waste and materials, etc.

Few meeting prior to the project with Robert's input and experience, recommendations and opinion. We worked on a timeline, which was closely and successfully observed. We are very satisfied from the work he had done, and the attention and professionalism he projected. He's a keeper.
Description of Work: RJT, Robert Tell is a great contractor who works with very professional people. We built a new deck, the carpenters he provided us with were top of the line, they completed the job in a timely manner and with great, perfect results. Being so satisfied we continued our work with RJT and redid our driveway. Meticulous pavers placement; This is the second time we work with RJT and I would recommend him warmly. i would definitely use RJT again. He is my 'to go' person/company when I need work done in and out. Honest professional, and fair;

Where do I start with RJT? It all started innocent enough. We requested a quote. The owner Rob was responsive and pleasant enough. We awarded the contract because we were told they can meet our timeline of 2 weeks to get the paint and floors done. We were told that this was tight but what the result was were not prepared for. The entire process took about a month and was one disaster after another. One thing you should know up front that was mentioned by other reviewers is that the owner sub-contracts all the work. This with very little involvement or oversight of the workers used. Our timelines and expectations were clearly not communicated to them. The job started with paint. Now when you contract out paint you expect a nice clean job with little or no worry. These painters failed to use even the basics like drop clothes. This was evident by paint splatter and even dropping paint and staining carpet. (See photo). They also cleaned there brushes when complete at our kitchen sink and dried them on our deck. This was not even the worst part of the paint experience. It was the timeline. The job was initially supposed to take 5 days. My wife and I knew on day 4 this was not going to happen but when we asked were we told it would get done. That there would be additional workers sent and that it should move fast now that trim was done. This was just one of many many more promises that Rob failed to deliver on. Eventually we told the painters to leave. The painter sincerely apologized and let us know he was not aware that we expected paint to be completed on that day. This after about 4-5 missed timelines and promises of having it completed. It was clear that Rob failed to convey or even manage these workers. Floors were being done in parallel but were also plagued with multitude of problems. First this group of workers also failed to prep properly. They did not tape up the AC vents when they began sanding the floors which caused dust to settle in every corner of the home. They also failed to use drop clothes when staining which caused other flooring to be damaged. Refer to photos. When we complained Rob told us soap and warm water should get this out. Professional cleaners and even my wife using every product known to man could not get this out. It absorbs into the wood so your only option is to replace or sand down again. These floors also scratch with the simplest of movements. We suspect that a low grade poly was used. This is just an opinion because we failed to observe what was being put down but the floors look like they are 100 years old and every surface is scratched. We do have dark floors but I have never seen anything like this before. Now we were told we can move in. Paint mind you was also not completed at this time (about 14 days in now) Garbage and filth were everywhere! The workers failed to clean up dust, they left garbage everywhere and even left garbage bags on my front doorstep. We moved into filth and when we complained yet again we were told by Rob was getting tired of our complaints! See pictures and you tell me if it is ok to move into these conditions and breathe air full of dust that was still all in the AC unit? Wait though because that's not all the stair rail was also broken off! The floor experts broke off the balusters connecting to the floor so they can sand and stain them leaving a big gap. (See pictures again). This is a safety hazard which my dog discovered when he fell from the second floor to the first and caused an emergency visit to the vet. I am sure there is also a code or two that must deal with this. So now we immediately patched up the rail with cardboard because god forbid my 7 year old gets knocked down. There is more that I can say like the actual repair to a stair that Rob did which was actually a patch job he hoped we would not notice. When paint was finally completed we were done with Rob and RJT. We do not trust him to repair our rail, floors or anything. Rob's answer to us was to send us an invoice for the full amount of the services. Does this all sound like a nightmare? It was and is still an ongoing one considering the damage, repairs and cleaning.

I am sorry but will have to decline this offer as I feel it is an unreasonable amount of money. I am very sorry that the job did not go as originally planned which is quite rare for my company as you will see by reading my reviews and noticing I have received super service awards many years in a row. I have offered to repair the railing at no cost and the offer was declined, in addition to that I have offered the owner a very fair and reasonable monetary settlement for cleaning and railing repair that was also declined. I would like to resolve this issue as soon as possible and in the most fair manner for both parties.

Rob Tell from RJT Remodeling is a phenomenal contractor and I recommend him wholeheartedly. I first met Rob when he responded to an estimate request for painting the interior of my new house but once he mentioned he was a general contractor, I shared my entire list of fix-ups for which I had been getting quotes from individual tradesmen (repairing electrical wiring, adding recessed lighting throughout the house, framing new closets and an archway, painting the entire house, etc.). During his walk through for the estimate, he spent over an hour (on his own dime) educating us on the best way to complete certain jobs for the best result, providing the pros and cons of various options for each task (for example, drywalling over popcorn ceiling rather than skimcoating it, as a painter had suggested, would ensure that cracks do not reappear). Nevertheless, after he left I didn't think we'd go with a contractor since I expected that the price would be significantly higher than going with an individual carpenter, electrician, painter, etc. I was wrong -- when his itemized quote came back, his costs were on par or lower than going directly with individual tradesmen. That sealed the deal. Once the work got started, Rob was constantly available and on-site every day. He usually caught any minor issues before I did and had them corrected proactively, but in the event that I caught something that needed to be fixed he had his crew make the change without any problems. Plus, when he realized that some expensive electrical work that we'd scoped into the project was not necessary after all, he actually advised us to skip it and cut almost $1000 out of our bill. Perhaps the most surprising delight has been how responsive Rob continues to be even after the final payment check has cleared: when a locksmith's lock installation caused a door that RJT installed to come out of alignment, Rob came over personally to get the door back in position. Months after his job was completed, he's continuing to stand by his work. I was nervous about getting involved in a major renovation, given how many contractor horror stories you hear about from friends, but Rob from RJT Remodeling was the opposite: available, helpful, and proactive. That is why I will continue to use RJT for any future renovations/handyman tasks/etc.

I purchased a deal on Angie's List - $199for 6 hours of work. Rob responded promptly and was able to schedule the work for one of my specified dates. Johnny, the worker, arrived right on time and proceeded to lay down plastic and drop cloths to protect our floors and furniture. Rob stopped by to make sure everything was going well and to see if I had any questions. Johnny did an excellent job fixing the ceilings and a couple of other spots needing repair. Rob mentioned that Johnny could return and paint the ceilings if I wanted. I wanted! He was back the next day, finished the sanding and then painted the ceilings in 4 rooms and touched up some walls. Johnny did an excellent job and kept the mess to a minimum. There's not much you can do about he dust created from this type of work but he find his best to minimize it, even vacuuming one room. I would recommend RJT and in fact am getting an estimate for some additional work.

My husband and I recently remodeled our upstairs bathroom, downstairs bathroom and kitchen. We were searching for a contractor and found Rob Tell of RJT Remodeling on Angie's list. He has been remarkable. His team is absolutely amazing. He is the first contractor that is actually reliable. He told us everyday when the workers were coming, specifically who and what time. He has never procrastinated the work. His workers are exceptional. Very clean. I couldn't believe it. I would recommend Rob without hesitation. Rob is very understanding and so calm even when we were getting uptight about certain things. He knew how to calm the situation and the results have been phenomenal. Couldn't have asked for anything better. We have more projects we want to do in the near future and Rob will definitely be doing them without hesitation.

The bathrooms ended up looking great but it wasn't easy at all getting there. I'm writing this review as a "third" party reviewer since my wife dealt mostly with Rob Tell, the prioprietor of RJT. Firstly, Rob is a very nice guy. The problem I had with his services was that he did not pay attention to details and there were numerous errors occured during the job. Every time an error occurred, we had to complain until Rob finally corrected the problems. The first problem was related to a custom vanity we bought. After Rob's guys installed it, they had to leave the drawer out because the plumbing was in the way of the drawner shutting. The first solution suggested by the RJT was to cut the drawer down in the back. Totally unacceptable since we spent 2000 on custom vanity. You would think that the contractor would ensure that the plumbing and cabinetry would match OK. Anyway, we suggested switching the drawer side with the open cabinet side to get by the plumbing interference and that worked out OK. The next problem we had was the shower head. After the upstairs bathroom was "complete," I took a shower and noticed that you had to lean over to the outside of the tub because the shower head was way off center - by 3 or 4 inches. When we complained that you had to lean up against the shower curtain so the shower stream of water would hit you in the face, the first suggesting to fix it was to angle the stream back towards the center of the tub but leave the shower head placement as is (least amount of work possible to fix it). Again, unacceptable and yet more complaingin necessary to get the error fixed correctly. Finally, the shower head was moved to the center of the tub wall and the shower head was in a "normal" center position. Not sure why this was so hard. Next problem was that the electrical outlets in the 2nd bathroom where placed in a location that butted up against the cabinet where 1) they looked rediculously placed and 2) you could barely get a plug in the socket because the cabinet door was in the way. Again, we had to complain for Rob to do the right thing and rip out the tile and recenter the electical outlets in the correct "center" position. When I asked how the misplacement occurred in the first place and if Rob had measured to ensure the cabinets wouldn't conflict with the outlets, Rob said he only approximated the location of the electrical outlets. His approximation was way off. A little more attention and a tape measure would have helped a lot in this case. Although Rob did fix the placement problem, two residual problems resulted. A "junction box" outlet needed to be placed in our bedroom on the other side of the bathroom wall so the wires could be extended to the correct location for the outlet. This junction box is completely out of place and appears randomly on our bedroom wall but I think I'll try to cover it up with a full length mirror or something. Secondly, the outlet and light switch that were moved are not square because the workers needed to extend the studs to accept the electical boxes and it wasnt done that well. When we complained that they weren't square, the solution, partly, was to recalk the top of the outlets to make them look more square. It is acceptable now, albeit not high quality work. The final error and straw was the installation of the shower glass door. After the installation, I noticed that the door was installed completely level but that there was a gap of about a half inch on the bottom where water could get out of the shower. When we complained to Rob again, he was fed up with our complaints and said he took no responsibility for the door not fitting correctly. At this point, we both wanted the job done and over with, so we were willing to pay him his final payment just to put the job behind us. To Rob's credit, he did come and adjust the door and now it is fine. It really is a shame the Rob did not pay attention to the details on this job because he is a very nice guy and had he done a better job at paying attention to the details, I would have really liked to give him a great review. In a way, the remodeling was a success in that we have two beautiful bathrooms (mostly because my wife picked beautiful materials and we complained enough to make Rob fix things). The good: RJT did make things good in the end and we have two very nice bathrooms. The bad: it was an unpleasant experience having to complain to get things done correctly.

I am very sorry to hear that the experience of working with my company was not a good one. Just to make a few notes on your comments, some of the issues (plumbing pipes in cabinet) are brought up to all of my customers prior to the job beginning. This is a very common problem we come across and can be resolved as it was in your home, but is an obstacle. As for the shower head there were discussions about where it would be placed and I installed it in the location that was chosen, since after it was installed you were not happy I did move it and replace tiles at no charge. I will not comment on the entire review but I will apologize that you were not happy with the service I provided. At the end of the day I believe you do have 2 beautiful bathrooms to enjoy for years to come, and would appreciate if you would post some pictures. - Rob Tell

Rob was easy to work with. Being that this was our my first time doing a remodel of three rooms we needed his opinion on our ideas. The one thing that put us at ease is when we would ask Rob(after discussing our plans) "are we missing anything"? Rob would pause, think and answer, but most importantly he would ask us "Is there anything I need to know"?. That made the difference in the whole project.
Description of Work: Remodeled 3 rooms, living room, dining room and porch. Knocked down a parting wall and installed a flush beam. Installed laminate flooring, put up dry wall in all three rooms plus ceilings. Did all electrical work including adding and raising outlets, put in recessed lighting and installed ceiling fan and chandelier. Installed crown molding in living room and dining room and chair rail molding in dining room. Installed all new molding around the windows and doors and provided and installed new baseboard heat covers. Installed new entry door and storm door. Provided paint and painting for all three rooms

Rob subcontracts all of the work and he provides good instruction for them. I did experience few cases when I had to step in to make sure things were done properly. For example, the plumber wanted to run the vent lines with many bends and exit on the front side of the house. Good thing I was there. I made sure the vent exhaust was positioned on the side of the house and that pipe has minimum number of bends as each bends cause likeness of clugg building. The electrician was excellent. Very nice and professional and produced good work. The carpenter was okay, nothing great or terrible. Most work was good but few spots were sloppy. Only main issue I had with the carpenter was that he didn't complete the caulking/spankle (prep for paint) PER CONTRACT. He also left the workspace dirty. Normally, I would have waited them to comeback and finish but we had the carpet guys scheduled to come in so I had do the clean up and paint prep myself. Rob, himself, is friendly and professional. When things are under his control, he goes out of his way to keep his promise. For example, he kept his promise to make sure our washer and dryer were functional over the weekend by installing temporary vents and lines himself. Overall, the experience was good and I would use Rob again. I would have given an excellent rating if the carpenter completed his work on time as estimated and left the workspace clean and prep'ed.

Response from RJT Custom Builders
I am very sorry to hear that you were not satisfied with the work that was completed. In response to the plumber and dryer vent either way is car appropriate and if you were not satisfied with the way it was done 1st I would have been happy to change it for you. I am very surprised to see a "c" for price as the price was incredibly competitive. I hope we have a chance to work together again and work out some of these details so you will feel like you received "A" quality work.
