My lawn had some water on it after we had a few days of heavy rain. For some reason, I smelled it, and it wasn't good. We have been using the same company for pumping for almost 10 years, so I called them for advice. They sent someone out who quickly diagnosed a failed drain field. Now I start looking for info on how to get this fixed. Of course I used Angie's List during my search and found Just Septics in Williamstown. I read the reviews, which seemed stellar, then checked out their Facebook page. It was here I saw that he had a review from someone I know and trust, so I gave Mark a call. Mark came out the next day, gave me a full assessment and a price. He took his time, explaining in detail what had gone wrong and what was the best way to fix it. He answered all our questions in detail that we could understand. He discussed what he saw with two other fields that have been rebuilt in our neighbor hood and what he would do better than what we saw. When Mark talks septics, it is with a confidence that can only come with experience, and you easily accept and like that. We immediately trusted Mark's judgement and gave him the job. The only time worked stopped was for inspections, and he was in and out in 5 days. The yard, minus grass, actually is graded better than it was before. The tank lid and filter lid are at ground level, no unsightly stuff sticking up for you to see. No digging up your grass in a couple of years when you get the tank pumped. The corner markers for the field are also at ground level, and capped. Once the grass grows back I expect our yard to look much better than it did before this massive excavation. We highly recommend Just Septics. You would be making a big mistake if you need this work done and don't at least give Mark a call. I paid a lot less than an identical house to mine (across the street) just paid and the finished job looks 10 times better. I'm an old guy, and it's not about the cost as much as it is about the job being done right. And I have no doubts about the quality of this job.
Description of Work: Mark diagnosed my flooded yard as a failed "chamber" style drain field. He said the correct way to fix it is to remove the failed system and replace is with the time-proven "pipe and stone" system. This is what he did. He started the day he said he would and finished on the fifth day. Grading, seeding, cleanup was all done the morning of the fifth day after the backhoe first dug in - Monday to Friday morning. Nobody wants to buy a septic field, but you have to admire how nice the finished product looks. And works!

If your existing septic system is failing and you need a new system, then you need to hire Mark Schafer of M&M's Just Septics LLC. Our system was failing. We talked with several professionals, got some advice (good and not-so-good) on how to handle the situation. We hired an engineering firm to evaluate the situation and design the fix. They came up with the plan, and submitted the plan to the county health board for approval. Once approved, the county health sent the approved plan to me (owner copy and installer copy). I made several copies of the installer's document and submitted to several installers for bid. The plan called for use of the existing septic tank, adding a filter tank, a pump tank, and installation of a completely new drain field. Mark was the quickest to respond, and the most thorough in his discussion with me on how to address the installation. He listed to our potential concerns and answered all of our questions. The installation went off without a hitch, except for two days of rain. If not for the rain, the installation would have been completed in 4 days. Mark was well organized (no waiting for trucks, equipment, tanks, electrician, or county inspectors---he had it all well-orchestrated), skilled as anyone can possibly be with the digging equipment, and meticulous in his installation of the tanks, and field. The clean-up far exceeded our expectations. Mark does really good, clean work. Others might be just as good (maybe), but hard to believe that anyone is better. The bottom line is if you need a septic system installer, I have done all of the research for you, and have the proof in my backyard that you should just hire M&M's Just Septic LLC.

Mark responded very quickly to my calls; he's upbeat and courteous. He is also very thorough, and meetings with him never felt rushed. He grew up in the business, and his many years of experience are obvious. We were installing a whole new replacement septic system. Mark noticed details my engineer missed (remarking on a huge hickory tree that, as Mark said, could either come down now or later – due to its location right next to the septic tank, the tree’s roots would be compromised so we would lose it if we didn’t take it out now.) I appreciated that. All work with Just Septics is done by licensed and insured contractors, including any plumbing and electrical work needed. That was not the case with at least one other installer we interviewed. Just Septics came highly recommended by a friend. There are many failing septic systems in the Swedesboro area and I wanted to be sure to select a trustworthy contractor. BTW, Mark’s estimate was the lowest.
