Our garage door broke this afternoon in a half open position. After speaking with a relative who highly recommended this business, I called and asked (almost begged) that they come out today. Eric and assistant saw the problem, repaired it, straightened out the door, and saved me from the expense of a new door. Thank you, Eric! Highly recommend Close Brothers!!

I had a frustrating experience with Close Brother Overhead. I have two garage doors; one worked well, while the other had issues opening and closing properly. Eric and his assistant came to fix the problematic opener. Initially, they suggested that a single screw would solve the problem. However, after putting in the screw, the opener stopped working altogether. They then recommended replacing the entire opener, which I agreed to. For the other door, which was functioning fine, they offered a remote control because there was a remote control sensor on the ceiling, and I went along with it—only to later find out from my neighbor that having a garage door without a safety sensor should not include a remote for safety reasons. Eric also suggested changing the belt, noticing some wear. I agreed, and they replaced it and lubricated everything before leaving. However, shortly after they left, the door opened by itself, and the opener malfunctioned, producing smoke and damaging the new belt! I had to unplug it to stop the crazy working opener. When I called Eric back, they returned and claimed the opener was old (from the 60s or 70s) and at the end of its life. This was surprising since it had been working fine for the past 10 years since I bought the house. My neighbor has a similar opener from the same era that still works without issues. Now I’m starting to doubt if the other opener they replaced needed to be replaced at all, as it’s only 20 years old. I can't shake the feeling that Eric is playing tricks to earn more money. He kept asking me if I planned to rent out the house, which seemed irrelevant to his work—was he going to charge more because it's a rental? I got his information from a neighbor chat group that had good comments about him, but I’ll be more cautious moving forward. He better watch out; I have access to thousands of residents in the Millburn/Short Hills area, we use chat app to share good or bad contractors - I’ve lived in the area for 10 years. Overall, I wouldn't recommend their services based on my experience.

I have nothing but the highest regard for Carl Klose as a professional and human being. I’ve known him and used his services for almost twenty years. He knows his stuff, he works with you, and he is not out to break the bank at your expense. He also has a contagious sense of humor. If there were a higher rating than five, he would deserve it.

Karl was wonderful to work with from the get go. Assembled the new garage door opener and patiently took time to set up the garage door opener remote and explain me the details. Will use them again when time comes to replace the garage door. Thank you.

I initially got an extremely high quote from another company to replace my garage doors. For a second quote, I decided to seek out someone locally with good reviews on Angie's List. That is how I found Close Brothers. They were able to come out the same day to provide an estimate. They asked me if I really wanted to replace the doors because they were actually in good condition. They just needed new springs, etc. That sounded perfect to me! We scheduled a day to come out and my doors are now fixed! They also provided and programmed a new remote for me. Really good guys! Enjoyed talking to them while they worked. Really down to earth and not out to rob you. I would definitely hire them again!

Karl was excellent. He replaced the spring (and a broken hinge on the door). He explained to me what he was doing and gave me some tips on maintenance. The cost was very reasonable. I would definitely use them again.

Over the phone, Mr. Close took me through a trouble-shooting list and then suggested I try to reprogram again, using a sequence slightly different than is written on the unit - and it worked! I appreciate his gracious help over the phone and will certainly call Close Brothers if/when I have any problems with my garage doors.

I could not have been more pleased. As arranged by a phone call earlier in the week, Eric called me about half an hour before he came over. A representative from a large garage door company (I won't name names, but it was part of a company with franchises and several repairmen) had come to look at the keypad some time earlier and told me there was nothing he could do because the system was too old. By the time I called Eric Close, I had resigned myself to thinking I might need a whole new system, even though the opening mechanism itself worked well. Fortunately, I had hired someone who was a true professional and knew his subject well. He had a brand new replacement for the keypad at a reasonable price and confirmed my experience that the actual opener was in good repair. He also sold me two remotes. He said I really only needed one but I opted for a second. He clearly puts the customer before profit. My door itself is pretty old and may need to be replaced in the future. If that should happen, I will definitely call Close Brothers again. It's a great but far too uncommon feeling to find a provider I know I can trust, but I discovered that elusive combination of skill and honesty today.

Great, turns out it wasn't broken. But he tuned it, changed the springs (with my blessing) and even pointed out some things i didn't know about the door and system (Like there was a second light with the motor that has always just been burned out since I bought the house - didn't know it existed).

It went perfectly. They return calls and show up when they say they will. I was very happy with the work. We have used them prior to this particular job and will certainly use them next time we have an issue with garage doors.

They arrived on time, did the work quickly and left everything clean and neat. The mechanism was a Lift-Master 2/3 hp belt drive. The old springs were replaced by a torsion spring which is very compact and is placed right above the door itself. The door was a white insulated steel door with a carriage house design and faux antique hinge plates and handles.

This is easy! Erick is just the BEST. I have been using him for close to 10 years. He originally installed my doors and has kept them operating like new ever since. The spring broke on a Sunday, Erick was at my door 10 am the next day. I only needed the spring replaced, but he tuned up, tightened and oil both sets of doors. I was super happy as always. He truly knows his stuff! I recommend him to anyone who asks. HE'S REALLY THE BEST!!

Eric was knowledgeable and professional. The estimate was competitive with other firms. I chose a different provide based primarily on scheduling.

I got three estimates from three different companies. Precision Garage was horrible. They were only interested in selling me a new door and charged $70 for the estimate. Another company gave me a free estimate but also said replacing the door was likely the only option. The Close Brothers spent a lot of time looking at everything and told me very honestly that they could replace the door or repair it for much less. Repairing it may only last another 4 years or so, but would only cost $120. The estimates for new doors were around $1200 so this was a great alternative. Additionally, if I wanted to replace the door Close Brothers were willing to do that within 5 days. Precision said it would take 2-5 weeks for a new door but if I needed it sooner there would be a surcharge. Additionally, Close Brothers were very prompt and came by on a Saturday in between appointments. I had just called them the day before and the other companies took about 5 days for an estimate. I work in Manhattan so they were very flexible on when they would do the repairs, based on my schedule. They even followed-up to make sure everything was working well. I would highly recommend them and will definitely use them again when I need to replace the door.

I've used Close Brothers for several years, for all my garage door needs. I would recommend them to anyone, not just for pricing, but for responsiveness and their excellent reputation and input as to maybe styles or designs that you might want to consider for the look of your home. They're help you out with designs and show you selections. If you ask, they give you some recommendations of what he feels might be a good fit for your home. Their cost is very competitive. Every time I've called, they just automatically responded. They've been very good. They're very dependable and are very customer focused.

All aspects of dealing with Close Brothers was excellent. They responded quickly to our inquiry to install a new garage door opener and arranged for installation in a reasonable amount of time. They cleaned up after the installation very well and did an excellent job installing the garage door opener and explaining the various details of operation. The experience I had was outstanding. Owner and installer Eric Close informed me of how long it would take to get my special order door and he was right on target. He also called me as soon as the door arrived to schedule the installation. He arrived on time, worked hard all day and did a beautiful job. From beginning to end, this was an exemplary transaction. The installation occured within the time frame agreed. There was adequate telephone communication. Close Brothers carries a better line of designs. They are pleasant and cooperative. Our garage had some clutter. They were not finicky about our clearing the garage before they would begin work. They relocated the contents of the garage carefully before starting to work and replaced the items after the work was completed. The removal of the old door with the tracks and springs was quiet and efficient. The steel parts were removed and the wooden parts were reduced in size and placed neatly at our curb for garbage pick-up. The installation of the new door and opener was also quiet and efficient. Total time spent was 4.5 hours from start to finish. They consulted me about the final details of the decorative hardware placement before installing the handles and faux hinges. They programmed the remote controls located in our two cars. The workmanship is excellent. The door operates quietly. When closed I cannot see any light leaking around the door seals. Upon completling the work they swept the area and left the worksite clean. I am very satified that I received full value for my money. Based on my experience, I would gladly recommend Close Brothers.

Close Brothers was the best decision I made. Not only did they replace the cable, they checked the cables on the other two garage doors (automatic and manual) and both automatic openers, without being asked; all for $129. They arrived on the time they committed to for arrival. They were professional, courteous, expedient, and personable in their dialogue and interaction with us. I would definitely contact them again and highly recommend them as a service provider. They are the best; you will not be disappointed.
