We had an abandoned 550 gallon oil tank on our premises. When purchasing the residence 25 years ago, we had been given a certificate that it had been "cleaned and filled" (presumably with sand) but had no way of verifying that this had actually been done. Today, it's hard to get homeowner's insurance (or change insurance policies) if the tank even exists, regardless of its condition. I finally decided to have the tank removed. I got two quotes. Aim Tank was a few hundred dollars higher than the other quote. However, I have heard that some of these companies start out low, and turn the removal into a fishing expedition for extra costs. In the worst case, the cost can go up dramatically if any oil residue is found. Aim Tank had been recommended to me from a person in the industry who insures tanks. He had told me that Aim wouldn't turn it into a "science project". They would just do a competent, honest job. That's what they did, and I am very happy with their service. Aim Tank handled all of the details. The obtained local permits, got utility markouts, brought out an excavator and tank truck, extra soil (to fill in the hole), dug out the tank, waited for the town inspector, filled in the hole and removed and disposed of the old tank. They arrived by 8 in the morning and were done by 2:30 in the afternoon. A couple hours of that were spent waiting for the inspector. Everything was neat and tidy. I would use them again if I had another tank. Fortunately, I do not.
