I initially wanted to mention that we have had an underground sprinkler system since early 2008. We also have a number of mature oak trees on the property, although we have had some of these trees removed during the last few years. Finally we believe that our expectations are reasonable. We're not looking for a putting green. We just want a nice lawn, like everyone else.
The first two years went fairly well and were an improvement over the previous lawn fertilization company.
The third year was average. We seemed to have a few more weeds along the perimeter, i.e along fences and concrete walks. There was also very little grass in a small triangular area surrounded by a six foot fence, a concrete walk and a storage shed.
Things got worse in year 4. The number of weeds increased. My wife felt that the technician was skipping the back yard, although we couldn't be certain. By late summer the grass was thin, except for the front area, which by then had complete, direct sunlight (no trees).
Year five became the deal breaker. The weeds were a lot worse. I was on my knees in the front yard pulling out the many chickweeds. I finally wondered why I needed to perform this activity -- since I was paying for a lawn service!
My wife had since retired. She was able to actually witness the Pro Lawn technician skipping the aforementioned triangular area. She contacted Pro Lawn with poor results.
Finally on one occasion the Pro Lawn technician damaged a simple, wooden post trash can protection assembly that I had built a number of years ago. The technician initially stated that he only bumped the assembly. Despite repeated phone calls the assembly was never repaired by Pro Lawn. One Pro Lawn employee told my wife during a phonecall that his wife could repair the damage in 20 minutes. I'm still waiting for her to show up.
This year I'm growing chickweeds in the front lawn. All thanks to Pro Lawn.
