Fantastic. The work looks great, the price was very fair (and much lower than other quotes) and everything came together very fast. Gary exudes honesty and wisdom, very willing to accommodate specific needs and very motivated to get the work done right and fast.

Projects went well. Gary is very responsive to messages, very thorough when going over pricing, and highly capable of doing the work. In addition to laying the railroad ties, installing three windows, and repairing a chipping foundation, he sealed holes in my backyard bilco doors, did a bit of gutter repair and removed a post from an old gate. Clean up was also very good. The pricing for the foundation repair and the windows were in line with what I had received previously. The rail road ties were estimated higher than expected, but I saw that it was also more labor than I thought. All in all, another satisfied customer.

Gary and his team are consummate professionals. From start to finish, they made our renovation process simple and easy, which was ideal for first time home buyers like my husband and myself. The work, which was of very high quality, was done in just over 3 weeks. Gary also made the process of purchasing cabinets, appliances, the counter top and floor easy by recommending businesses that he has worked with in the past. Gary and Al waste no time getting to work. During the first day, they removed the entire kitchen! Every day, hey arrived at a reasonable hour and worked all day. They also paid attention to smaller details, making sure that all paint smudges, blemishes and other imperfections were covered up. Also, every decision or extra that they had to do was explained thoroughly with a justification of cost and thought; fixes weren't made for the sake of it. In addition, they're very nice guys. Easy to talk to, they listen to your input and feedback, and provide insight and thoughts of their own without overwhelming you with information. We can't recommend them enough!

It went very well. He did an excellent job. Gary responded quickly to my phone call and all I had to do was send him a picture of the walls that I wanted to have the shelving put in. Before he started the work he arrived at the house early in the morning to verify and measure everything. He set a date; told me it would cost $1600 which included $400 for the materials and approximately $1200 for the labor. His quote was right on target. He is a good communicator.

Gary is meticulous. Extremely neat and very conscientious. Took longer than planned and was expensive. I liked the plumber and electrician he uses but both were $150 an hour which is triple the normal rate. I should've used my folks. Would have saved a lot.

I have heard so many terrible tales about remodeling so I put it off for a while. Then, my sister used Gary and recommended him. I checked the Angie's List reviews and called him. A great decision. My new kitchen is gorgeous. Gary is a perfectionist. He is detailed, organized, highly skilled, and honest. The first day we met, we discussed the job in detail. I had already thought through what I wanted but he gave me some other ideas to consider. He estimated the job would take fifteen days. I didn't really believe him. He gave me a timeline for my own responsibilities: ordering cabinets, flooring, etc. He recommended partners he works with (on his website). We set a start date based on an estimation of when the cabinets would come in. Day 1 Gary arrived early. I had the coffee ready. Demolition began. The room was draped and although dust is inevitable, the work area was cleaned regularly. Day 15 at 2:30 p.m. the kitchen was done! Everything was coordinated: electrical, plumbing, flooring, countertops..... a coordinated team of pros who had worked together for years and worked well. It was amazing. I would hear Gary on the phone to the electrician (excellent) saying he'd be ready for him on Thursday...... 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, the electrician is working! Gary works through every detail: he made me simulate emptying my dishwasher or opening the oven so that we could be sure the island would be placed properly. We moved our kitchen table back into the demolished kitchen so he could be sure there was enough clearance with the new wall of cabinets. My husband uses a cane. Gary made sure the spaces were wide enough for a wheelchair (just in case). He convinced me to change my woodwork to white. Great decision. Here's an example of how well he schedules his tasks: He had painted the kitchen before the cabinets were installed, but he didn't do the hall, foyer, and staircase. I wondered why. He "saved" that section for flooring installation day because he wanted to oversee the flooring job but he wanted to accomplish something too. No time wasted. We had some trouble with our cabinets - some arrived broken, or nicked, or the stain job was not good. He immediately called and arranged for their replacement (which has taken place). As in all projects, you get what you pay for. Gary is clear that he does quality work. We have a lovely home. Now we have a beautiful kitchen, which I enjoy everyday. He really likes it too - he clearly enjoys his work. I have already recommended Gary to a friend. Their kitchen is in the planning stage now.
Description of Work: We remodeled our kitchen. We eliminated a peninsula and added an island. New cabinets and counters, new half wall, relocated refrigerator and stove, new flooring.

Gary and I spoke by phone to determine whether there was enough work to make it worth his to travel outside his usual area, which makes sense. We had 4–6 hours' worth of work to do, so he came out a few days later, when he had a free day between major jobs. If you decide to work with Gary, I suggest saving up small jobs and letting him know when you have enough for a day's work. He's very clear at communicating when he has time for handyman work between major projects, and he's reliable at showing up when he says he will. I'm delighted to have found a skilled handyman! Gary knows his materials, works neatly, quickly and professionally and is happy to tell you when to fix something and when to leave it alone (instead of reaching for unattainable perfection). I'll be starting another list of household things to fix, and when it's long enough, I'll call Gary!

Gary's work is remarkable---he explained everything that needed to be done, explained about the charges, and time involved, which came in at less time than he first gave me, and that of course was a lesser charge to me, which is always a nice surprise ! The pavers were put back in place after the job was finished, and they were connected well, and it was impossible to tell they had ever been removed in order to do the job. He does not take shortcuts, and his motto seems to be " when he does any work, it is done the right way, from the first step til he completes the project." Believe me, you cannot find a more dedicated man in this field. If you are in need of the services he provides, stop looking and give him a call. When he gives you a date, you have that date, no changes, no calls, and no excuses--he shows up and the job is done so well---he leaves nothing around, all traces of pieces of material, wood, ect. are gone, and you can just stand back and admire the great job he did.! I am so glad I found Gary on Angie's List---YOU WILL BE TOO !

The gentlemen was pleasant over the phone and up until the point that he set foot through my front door. I had carpet installed on my 2nd floor in December right before the holidays so we normally do not wear shoes on the brand new carpet, so I kindly asked the gentlemen to remove his boots which were filthy sneakers. That's where it all went downhill. He became very obnoxious and asked how would he do work without shoes on. If it wasn't obvious, I would have covered the carpet to make sure that the contractor and company can do work for us comfortably, but if he was so offended he also could have refused to even continue to provide a quote. Once we were upstairs in the bathroom, before I could even explain what I needed done, he gave me a quote of $17,000 as he thinks that's the cost of a new bathroom. I was not looking for a new bathroom- I was looking for repairs. I don't believe my 8 year old bathroom needs to be gutted and re-done. When I said $17,000 was a lot of money, his response was "well, I can't help you" which is fine, but why waste your time and mine. If a contractor is in for only big jobs, advertise that.

Response from G Greenwald Carpentry and General Contractor
F Bomb redemption. This customer was fairly accurate in her statements above, but didn't let you in on the facts that soured my attitude to its lack of even wanting this work- job.Yes after I wiped my feet 8-10 times, mind you they were new sneakers, the customer said that she has carpet and does not want me to walk on it. Putting that aside for a moment ,she said that she has had this problem for a long time. Mind you it is in the only bathroom in the house and it is on the second floor. Yes she had a bathroom replaced 8 years ago but they dig terrible work and it needed to be completely gutted for me to insure that the job is done completely and correctly .It was more important to carpet the steps first and then gut the bathroom. Very poor decision making. Also I had told these people that I get $17000.00 to re do there job and their statement to me was no I don't get that much. But that was my price. It was now time to run and run fast. And further more if at the beginning of the knock on the door when the customer made me take off my shoes I said that I was no longer interested in looking at her job. Do you think I would have gotten an A or an F ?Some people get what they pay for .A junk job... I do, over wipe. my shoes before every home entry. And I do not take my shoes off . sorry.........

I called Gary because the basement was getting water after a rain. There was always some water after a heavy rain, but the situation got progressively worse over the years. This was a dry year, so when we did get some rain, it was really noticeable when there was water in the basement. Gary came and checked everything. He suggested a French Drain and sump pump, waterproofing, and filling in a dirt crawl space with concrete and cement. He also suggested I replace the old plumbing, slop sink, and lighting, and since we were at it, take out the unused basement oil tank, replace the windows, and in general take out anything not needed and upgrade anything not up to code. That was fine with me. That Monday he ordered a 20 yard dumpster and filled it over the next few days. He scheduled everything. People showed up at just the right time, and the people he used were all top notch. Gary had done a couple of other jobs for me, so I knew Tom Palmasano, his electrician and Dave Palmasano, his plumber. As always they were polite, professional, and worked quickly. Gary did his best to pass everything through the basement windows, to keep the mess out of the rest of the house, which helped a lot to keep the dust down. It's the little extras that Gary does which makes him stand out . He built a workbench for me and even installed my old vice. he sealed up a cemented crawl space which should have been done way back when, and added some supports for the stairs and replaced the banisters. I had to wait a couple of weeks for new windows, but that was out of Gary's control. He likes to work straight through on a job with no gaps in days. All in all everything was first rate. The basement is dry and the musty basement smell is gone. Gary's like the A Team. If you have a problem, and if you can get him, he's the man for the job.
Description of Work: Complete gutting of basement, masonry work to seal a dirt crawl space, painting, waterproofing, new windows, banisters for the stairs, upgrading of lighting and plumbing, installation of French Drain and sump pump, plus gutter extension matching the slope of the land.

Gary fixed the damaged section and put up a new sheet rock ceiling. He finished it off with crown mouldings and added a medallion for a new chandelier. We were fortunate that he was able to fit us into his busy schedule. Gary worked swiftly and finished up a day earlier than expected. I did return the call the next morning.. And at that time I was checking my reviews on angies list approx. 6:45 am, this customer had already given us the (F) bomb. So I did not leave any message, it might have been a nasty one.People have to know that I value all calls and sometimes I get many calls in a single day. I am the handyman, the carpenter, estimator, bookkeeper, and ect.I do everything myself. I am a one man show . Sometimes I get just a little behind. 95% of the times I am spot on. Sorry if this one slipped through the cracks.

Gary and Pedro were here bright and early every weekday for 11 days. They did an amazing amount of work at an incredibly fast pace. By the end of day 1, the demolition of the existing walls + ceilings was done. When they left, the entire place was immaculate. The next day, Gary installed our front door and they began sheet-rocking walls and ceilings. I realized by the end of that day that he's our go-to guy from now on. The door installation is as perfect a job as you could possibly ask for. The walls and ceilings look absolutely flawless. Today was the final day of the job. He helped fix various issues around the house (broken banister, spackling, replaced registers, fixed broken kitchen faucet). The attention to detail was second to none. The garbage is at the curb in WM bags waiting to get picked up tomorrow morning. The place looks perfect and is immaculate. There were aspects of this project that we were considering trying ourselves. I'm so glad we didn't. These guys are hard workers, really easy going, and they're incredibly talented at what they do.
Description of Work: Re-sheetrocked and painted 2 rooms and a hallway, reinsulated exterior walls, installed a new front door + storm door, fixed broken banister, replaced kitchen faucet, pulled up existing carpet, replaced closet doors, MacGuyvered fixes for small issues left and right.

This is the second time Gary has done work in our house.? In both cases, he and his crew completed the work quickly and professionally.? The door installation looks great and the door functions perfectly.? They clean up thoroughly before leaving.? Gary responded quickly to the telephone message I left and came out to estimate the job within a day or so.? He completed the job a day or so after that.? I will use Gary again, whenever I need work done that is beyond my skill level.? I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone.

Gary and his team were efficient, professional and reliable. They were also very trustworthy. I travel a lot for work so I was not present for most of the renovation. I felt comfortable enough to have them in my home without my presence. They always left the house pristine and respectful of my belongings. I thought his estimate for the overall work was reasonable, but even then we still came in under budget. I highly recommend Gary and his crew and plan on using them again in the future.

Which included a removal of a window and replacing it with a new door and building a wooden platform with rails and stairs. Although not the least expensive contractor that we reviewed, the most important factor for selection was customer service, quality and time frame. If we went with another contractor, the volume of work that Gary performed would have taken much longer and likely not at the same quality. Gary?s project management, attention to detail, craftsmanship, responsiveness to questions, were superb. He consistently delivered on what he promised, and when he promised, all at the price quoted. Gary and his crew began as vendors and are now considered friends of the family.
