G Greenwald Carpentry and General Contractor

I'm redoing my kitchen and after I ripped out the old cabinets I needed to have new drywall hung on one wall and a portion on the ceiling. I looked up on Angie's list for general contractors and Gary's company came up first. I looked at all of the reviews and clearly everyone was satisfied with their work so I called. Gary picked up right away and we spoke about what I wanted done. He came to my house at around 7:30 the next day even though he had been working for two weeks straight after the storm. He looked around at what I wanted done and explained what the estimated cost would be. His price was fair and I hired him. He came to my house on the first day right on time and ready to work. The first thing he did was get the room as clean as possible and everything in order before he began working. He came with all the tools needed and didn't have to run out for anything. He was extremely accommodating to my electrician(who I called on short notice) and worked around him. Once my electrician was done he was able to get the drywall up in no time. The ceiling was the most impressive part because I have a plaster ceiling and there was a half in drop and he was able to get the drywall up and fill in the seams and you can't even tell that there was a drop. The next day he came at the same time again to put down the tile. All the tiles were lined up perfectly and they where all level. He made sure to have a plan before he laid the tile and it was fantastic. He finished up the next day with putting in grout. The wall and floor look fantastic, it is a completely different room. After I have the cabinets installed he is coming back to do all the final touches. From now on he will be the only person I hire when I have things done at my house.

Excellent experience from start to finish!

Contacted Angie's list; found local contractor..G.Greenwald. Contacted contractor who responded immediately ; he gave us an estimate which was approved by insurance company. Contractor provided temporary covering on roof to prevent further damage in case of rain. He returned the next day and completed the repairs.

He quoted $125/hr and said that it would take at least a full day to clean the house and more for the porch and gutters. It seemed very expensive to me, but others were in same ball park. He made a point of highlighting to me that I should do a better job of maintaining my home, which I did not appreciate. I also did not appreciate that while he was showing me where the dry rot was on my front porch he made it look worse than it was before he came. His ideas on solving my gutter problems would have seriously detracted from the appearance of my home. Ultimately, I did not hire him because of his "smarter than you" attitude. I'm not dumb, just busy.

When I called he told me that he will come to my house to give me an estimate in a couple days. He came when he said he would. He gave me an estimate which was actuate. He gave me the date he would come which he kept to his word. The work he did was excellent.

We were greatful that he agreed to drive over an hour to come out to our home and take on our projects. We were also happy with the quality and attention to detail. Gary listened to our ideas and provided his own when we were at a loss. He went out of his way to match the existing trimwork throughout the house to make our new additions look like they have always been there. He hit the ground running and didn't stop until the project was complete. We highly recommend him and would definitely utilize his services again.

We are very pleased with the work that Gary did. We needed new doors installed and since they were old and the frame had some rot, it required extensive repairs. Gary was prompt, incredibly responsive, knowledgeable, and neat. The finished product is amazing and we couldn't be happier. He also got us a generator that we desperately needed and came back another day to make sure that we knew how to operate it. We will be calling Gary for all of our repair needs and we are happy to know someone this skilled.

Gary was always punctual, from the estimate to the actual work. We had a list of items, most interior and a couple of exterior, small projects that had accumulated over time. He walked through the house while I showed him where work needed to be done, took notes, made suggestions as to how best to fix the problems. He specified a date when he would be able to return to do the work, and called the night before to confirm. He performed the work in a very efficient manner, cleaned up after it was done. He even found a couple of things that we had not known needed attention - he offered suggestions how he could do the repair, but did not pressure us in any way. He managed to fix one thing that was not on our original list, mainly because I had given up on finding a solution and didn't think to put it on the list - he noticed the problem immediately, did a "sample" fix, something we had never thought to do. It worked beautifully and was a very creative solution. We would definitely recommend Gary and would use him with any future work we may have.

Gary, is a great guy, very patient, meticulous will not leave until the job meets his approval, never mind ours. Would hire him again, we used him two times in the last two weeks.

Great service, really saved my butt. I had started a tiling job in my bathroom and just didn't have time to finish it. Gary came in and finished it for me right on the estimated time/cost. It looks great!!! Would definitely recommend him!

Gary was wonderful! He was a great to work with! We called Gary for repairs to our kitchen due to water damage from a bathroom flooding. There was a light switch that no longer worked and one of our cabinets was falling off the wall. The kitchen was 15 years old. So, it was also a bit worn. After his initial view, we were informed that the cabinets were ruined (and it was proven!). We tried to salvage them, but they were beyond repair. We tried to replace them, but due to the age, the color is no longer available without custom cabinetry. We were a bit taken aback that we were in the position. Without being able to replace the irreparable cabinets, we were in the position to replace all of the cabinets to have them match. Well, wouldn't you know it! We needed to get a new countertop (the old laminate just didn't fit). We opted for granite. Now, we have cabinets and a new countertop. But to make it standout, we needed a backsplash. And we still needed the lighting repaired and replaced. All in all...although I jokingly called this odyssey...KITCHEN NIGHTMARES, everything worked out fantastic!!! We love our new kitchen. We have a custom backsplash...courtesy of Mr. Gary. We have new built-in hutch/bar that we never had before...courtesy of Mr. Gary. We have a bit more work to do. And we will not hesitate to use G.Greenwald Carpentry and General Contracting for the rest of our needs!

The house had sustained major flood damage a year ago in Hurricane Irene. We finally decided to waterproof the basement. We were trying to fix up the house to get it ready for renters. That meant that the drywall had been ripped out. Now it had to be put back in. Gary came and did that--which was two days' work on its own. He always showed up a little early and he used good materials (e.g., mold-resistant green-board.) The toilet had also been ripped out (again, by the previous waterproofing job). Unfortunately, Gary told us that in order to put the toilet back we'd have to reinstall the (small) floor. Fortunately, Gary was able to do that: and he did a great job too. The best job that Gary did was in having one of the leaders from the house tie into an existing one. This saved me A LOT of money since other contractors that I had quoted had wanted to DIG A TRENCH in my driveway and quoted me a cost of over $1000. Gary did it for the price of materials. Gary also honored his Craigslist discount. He was very upfront, very responsive, and very, very good at what he did.

I went very well. They arrived and finished in a timely manner. They cleaned up after themselves and kept to their quoted price. There were no surprises and it was wonderful. He knew exactly what I wanted. I didn't even have to explain myself.

We called Gary for an estimate. Before he can provide an estimate, he called to say he had an opening and came the next day. He did the job on a T&M basis. He replaced the damaged drywall in the closets. He was done in about 3.5 hours. While he was here, he provided some helpful suggestions on updating one of our bathrooms. Overall, his work was excellent, timely, professional and neat. He is knowledgeable in all phases of home maintenance and repair. I would use his services again.

I have been using them for 10 years because I have always found them to be professional, prompt, and have always kept me well informed on the project progress. When they provide an estimate the estimate has always been accurate.

Gary gave us an estimate on Monday that was exactly what we expected to spend and on Wednesday he began the work promptly at 8:00 a.m. He removed an old vanity, mirror, medicine cabinet and floor. He then replaced the floor with ceramic tile and placed a new vanity, mirror and medicine cabinet. He painted the bathroom and caulked the tub as well (something we didn't even ask for, he did it on his own which we thought was great!) He also saw a gap in our floor in the hallway and used wood putty to make it look so much better, another thing we were happy about. He also did all the plumbing work in the bathroom replacing a valve that was leaking. He also painted our second bedroom and replaced a fan, as he is also very skilled in electrical work as well.. Gary and his partner were prompt, extremely clean and neat and worked very well together. We will certainly call him again when we do another project and would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone. He also tolerated our three very yappy dogs and acted as though they weren't even there. Gary and his partner are the best!!In addition to the price being great, he honored the 10% discount through Angie's List.

Everything was terrific. He came quickly and assested the job. He did a great job. I am very satisfied.

Gary is prompt, courteous, reasonably priced, and very experienced. We have used him on multiple jobs.

The project went very smoothly. Gary & team were on a T&M basis of $100.00 per hour. so work went really smoothly and without any hitch. every thing was planned a day earlier and the day's work was done by around 1.00 pm in the afternoon/. no wasting time. if there was a hitch, work was stopped to work figure out what needs to be done. I have no complaints. the best remodeling / fixing experience of my life.
