Gary was great. He called me the same day I submitted a request for a quote and came to my house that Sunday to check it out. I wanted to replace my front door and sidelight with a new version and also have a shower leak repaired. He told me exactly what I needed to know to order my new door and recommended a good supplier who turned out to be extremely helpful. For the shower problem, he suggested a simpler solution than had been suggested by other professionals and recommended a good plumber who got the job done quickly and saved me about $2800!! Gary installed the front door and it looks as though the house was built with it - perfect. Gary is very detail oriented and thought of everything to make it look polished. He also went above the call of duty and fixed a couple of bricks that had come loose from my walkway when he had some down time. I plan to hire Gary again for other jobs throughout the house. He is the carpenter I had been hoping to find since I moved to NJ. Honest and good.
Description of Work: He installed a new front door on my house and recommended a good solution and plumber for my shower leak that saved me thousands.

We had a wonderful experience with Gary. We already had a finished basement, but wanted to remodel further -- Gary created a home office for myself and studio for my husband, and did some painting. He also repaired and reconstructed the stairwell, which turned out beautiful. During our initial visit, Gary helped us determine layout/size of rooms and gave us recommendations that would help reduce costs. He was very upfront about estimated costs and made it very simple (hourly rate + materials). He anticipated it would take about 10 days and they were finished in 9. Gary was professional, punctual and cleaned up at the end of each day. He did all the work himself with one assistant. Would highly recommend Gary for any/all construction/remodel projects.

If you want it done once and done right I would definitely and wholeheartedly recommend Gary. Asides from being on time, professional, accessible, responsive and a real expert Gary is honest and a good guy. I've worked with many contractors and can say without a doubt that going forward I wouldn't work with anyone except Gary.

Gary and I reviewed several different projects at our house on a Saturday afternoon. We chose to start with installing attic steps and a bathroom door. Gary was able to start the projects the following Monday and completed the work in 2 days. Everything was done exactly as discussed with no issues; Gary called me while I was at work to confirm some small details of the project. Instead of just making assumptions he chose to reach out to confirm exactly what I wanted. I would definitely reach out to Gary again for future projects.

Everything turned out well. He did a good job and he was fair in the pricing. He was punctual and professional.
Description of Work: This was a Big Deal for $399.00 for $500.00 for a voucher toward any service. This was for a minimum of five hours of service. I used him for the labor and I purchased my own fixtures. He did a bathroom/powder room remodel, he exchanged all of the fixtures. He did do a little plumbing with the replacement of the toilet and vanity.

The statement that this member is stating is not anything close to the truth. She had describer the job to me and i had told her that it would be at least a week or so before i could do anything. So her idea of me not wanting her work is manufactured.

Gary quickly assembled the 2 new pieces I'd bought online and then figured out a solution for the more complicated assmebly (an antique bed missing some of its hardware - which necessitated a trip to Home Depot, to his workshop, and back to my house again.) Gary was prompt and efficient, and tried a couple of alternatives before hitting on the final solution. When we first spoke, he did express concern that his hourly rate for this kind of a project might be more than I wanted to pay. But I assured him it would be worth it to me - and it was! In the end, I was very impressed by Gary's professionalism and his ability to think on his feet. And I really appreciated his quick response.
Description of Work: I contacted Gary to see if his handyman services included assembling furniture. THough he said it was not his specialty, he was kind enough to accomoodate me and come almost immediately (36 hrs. after my initial call, on a weekend!)

I feel that this customer took advantage of our quality service . You accepted the price you new the quality would be there, and the price was explained and accepted. Just because you had a bad experience with the last contractor and you had to spend additional money to fix his booboos . That is quite unfair ,all angies lists people think the rating system on price is ,A the cheapest B a little more money C, even more and so on. Thats wrong the rating on price is given on the work, the reputation , quality , reliability and so on. So in this case I feel all A"s equals a top notch price.

Gary was excellent. I found him on Angie's List. He called me back within hours of my initial phone call and showed up to provide an estimate the next day. He finished the job within one week of my initial call for a proposal. He did a great job and I couldn't be more pleased with his work and with his professionalism and with the results. I would recommend him highly to anyone. I also had a problem with a roof leak. He called in his roofing people and they completed the roof work while he was finishing the interior work. I have used many contractors in the past and can easily say that he and his sidekick Pedro, provided the best experience I have ever had with a contractor. He is professional, courteous and pays attention to detail. His estimate based on the work was spot on. There were no hidden surprises! I highly recommend him and would definitely hire him again in the future.
Description of Work: Gary put up a wall between my living room and dining room with french doors and a coat closet. He also opened a doorway into the hall and installed a new door in the hall. He replaced my bathroom door and installed crown molding in the living room/dining room areas.

Gary responded quickly to our initial call, and stopped by our house the next day to provide an estimate. Gary and his assistant completed the job in less than a day. The fit and finish of the dentil moldings was excellent, despite being installed over somewhat irregular plaster walls. Baseboard moldings were perfectly installed as well. Gary is a talented finish carpenter. Clean up was thorough. We would definitely call on Gary again.

I spoke direct with Gary who indicated contact/appointment would follow Memorial Day vacation - there was no follow-up on his part. So I initiated a second call with voicemail mssg to Gary - no response. Third contact via email to Gary with my contact info - no response. Fourth contact to Gary via email - finally, a call back indicated a Friday or Monday "drop by" - still, no follow through. I am still waiting. Correction, I no longer await a response. Angie's List was noted, still, result was obvious lack of interest. Just wish I would have been told that, rather than me relying on the Angie. I'm done.

It all started when our refrigerator broke and we discovered that all the new refrigerators were three inches higher than all the old refrigerators. Thus, we would have to perform some kind of alteration to a cabinet that was above the old refrigerator to fit the new one. We managed to catch Gary Greenwald at a moment when he could come over and look at the problem. He proposed a solution, much better than any we had been considering, and then did the work, for $190. This was on May 30th. We were impressed with his professionalism, thought he understood what a nicely finished job looked like, and we felt comfortable with him and his assistant Pedro, so we suggested that he take a look at a rather extensive sheet rock job in our breakfast room. The job involved the replacement not only of sheet rock, but some furring strips in some sky lights and the replacement of all the light fixtures. We were happy with the figure that he projected for time and materials, and gave him a deposit on the spot. The work took about a week, ending June 7th and cost $5575 which was in line with his projection. The mess was contained within the work area and did not spread through the house. When he finished the spackling and the painting we were very pleased with the results. The room looked atttractive and well finished. We were so pleased, in fact, that we asked him to take a look at the deck which was in need of extensive repair... Gary began work on the deck on June 25th, ending July 15th. The cost was $28,000 which was in line with his projection for cost and materials. We have found him to be a reliable contractor who works steadily on the job until it is finished. He comes when he says he will. He actually does the work himself, with the help of his assistants, so there is no chance that some error will occur due to a lack of supervision or miscommunication. He knowledgably proposes materials and solutions that are attractive and sturdy. He appears to know a wide range of reliable people that he can call into a job when necessary, such as the electrician that was required during the sheet rock job. He keeps the homeowner informed of his progress and upcoming plans for the job. He and hs subordinates are polite and treat the property and the client with respect. I think the fact that we hired him to do three jobs of escalating size and are happy with all the results is the highest recommendation that you can give to a contractor.

I purchased the coupon advertised for 5 hours of labor after reading the reviews regarding Gary. He contacted me right away and we discussed what I needed done over the phone and he scheduled a time to come over and look at the job. . He showed up when he said he would and was very knowledgeable and friendly. We discussed in great detail what I wanted plus he made suggestions based on his expertise. He told me what the cost would be and I hired him. Gary came on time if not earlier to do the job and he made sure I was happy with everything he was doing along the way. He and his helper worked efficiently and cleaned up after they were finished. I am very happy with the end result and highly recommend him. I will be hiring him in the future.

I have an unusual size outside door on my back room and an ancient broken storm door. It took longer than I expected for the proper size new doors to arrive. Gary worked on the inside things during the time that we were waiting for the correct parts to arrive. It was frustrating when the final job was scheduled and we discovered that the storm door shipped was still not the correct size. Gary did a fine job installing the outside door (without the storm door yet). I watched most of his work and not being "carpenter qualified" myself, I saw that there was a lot of detail work needed to make the new door fit perfectly. Gary has a particular edge about himself that could be confused with arrogance, but I came to know this as confidence when I saw the finished job. When the right size storm door was delivered, he finished the job which looks great now! Quite a perfect installation. He noticed that my chimney needed repair (I knew this already) I asked if he did that kind of work, and he said no. He did suggest a mason, who I did hire to do the chimney job and I was very satisfied with his recommendation.

im just a little confused. The job was quoted and confirmed by customer, price didnt change . If price was to high he should not have given me the job. and with the all the delay of ordering different doors and returning the wrong door I lost time without charging him any thing extra. At the end we were both satisfied with the results. Mabe I should have charged him for my lost time.

I was lucky to have Gary do the job right away because he was starting another huge job that week. He had a few days before he started that job. Gary was very professional and neat. He even gave me tips on how to do some of the things myself. He was very honest. Thank you Gary!
