It went fine, every time. All work was done promptly and professionally whether performed by any one of his electricians or by Mike Volpe himself. I am not a personal friend and found All City Electrical via Angie's List or a similar web site/service some years ago.
Description of Work: I have used All City Electrical for all my wiring needs for several years and have never been disappointed. Tasks have ranged from minor to fairly complicated, including adding a breaker to redistribute power in my home, rewiring a utility room for a new boiler, installing and moving outlets around, and rewiring a light.

The results were great! We now have a modern electrical system that's much safer.
Description of Work: We bought a 120 year old house with a previous owner who was a big DIY guy who didn't really know what he was doing. He failed to upgrade basic parts of the system and took a lot of shortcuts, some of them dangerous. All City fixed all those problems as well as upgraded our electrical service to handle bigger loads.

I was pleasantly surprised with the professionalism this company has provided. Joe who was the electrician was very helpful, polite and professional on his work and very detailed. He had safety concerns for my old house and advised on few things for the future without being pushy with sales. My family loves all the work, and the 2 ceiling fans which required all new wiring put in looks beautiful adding touch of elegance to the living room and bedroom. He thoroughly covered floors and furniture and then cleaned the area very nicely. Wife is very happy with the work therefore happy home. It went very well and we will definitely use this company again for future work. I hope they will keep up the great job and honesty of their work.

Very professional, courteous, and high quality work performance done. The guys took their time, explained everything, set up their equipment with no damage to the furniture and once the work was completed they cleaned everything up and put all the furniture back in its original setting. I cannot say enough good things about the quality of service and the pricing was extremely fair. They honored a $50 dollar coupon from Angies List and gave me another 5% discount for paying with cash. Highly recommended.

I had used them in the past and they were great, but this time around I felt as though I was being given the run around for the work that was performed. The person that came to my home was kind and courteous. He did good work, however when speaking with the main person at the company, I was told that his people don't do estimates and that he would have to come out again to do an estimate. So then my question is, why didn't he come out himself the first time around? If it was an issue of availability, I would have appreciated a phone call or a message stating that he couldn't make it, especially since I was originally expecting him and I had spoken with him on the phone. I stayed home expecting him to come and then he sent his employee (who did what he could) but his employee completed the diagnostic and understandably could not deliver a quote. I stayed home and found childcare for my baby for this visit and then I was told that I had to schedule another appointment for an estimate and then on top of that, that it would not be able to be done until later. Had I had this information prior, then I would have held off as I knew this might be a possibility and saved the money. So, in a nutshell, the process works like this: I call you for a service, your people come out to do a diagnostic service call for close to $200 for the first hour, then in the event that they can't fix it, after they leave, I then need to call you for an appointment to come out to setup an estimate time. You don't call me or e-mail me, I have to call you. Then, on top of that, this service which most likely would have required some ground work (which you mentioned on the initial call) can not be done in the winter time and we are in the middle of December. Since this is my first home, I have worked with several contractors and each one that has done good work, has received repeat work from me and recommendations to others. Unfortunately, I can't do the same for this company even though their first job went over so well. I'm not quite sure what changed since then.

(Member name removed), You contacted me for 3 different issues. Member was charged $180.00 for the following: 1) Replacement of 2 lights. Which we completed for you. 2) Additional outlet. We gave you a price on the spot and offered to complete it on the spot and you declined to have the work done. 3) Troubleshoot power loss to garage. Which we did and found that the line leading underground from the house to garage was beyond repair and required to be re-ran underground and rewired. This is a large and involved job which would require myself the owner to visit your home to provide you with a free estimate and detailed explanation on what would be involved. I spoke to you personally prior to scheduling your appointment and advised you that this may be the scenario and would not be able to be fixed on the spot but the additional outlet and lights could be taken care of on the 1st visit and the garage would be a job in itself. My technician did advise you to contact the office to schedule a meeting with myself. We don't pressure our customers for business and figured you would call when you were ready. Not sure where we dropped the ball here? Thanks in advance, All City Electrical

Hi everyone, Before you read this review, just know, I am a normal reasonable guy just like you. I am a software engineer in Jersey City. Following my encounter with Mike and his crew I severed ties with angies list and cancelled my membership. In fact I changed my whole approach on hiring self employed service providers, and only work with contractors and companies. Mike Velope was almost 2 times more expensive than all other offers I had received. I hired him because he exuded confidence to deliver, and had an A+ rating. He was a celebrated and well reviewed electrician. I didn't care bout money, I wanted tob pay a lot to get a decent outcome that would last for years. Mike wasn't able to deliver on what he had promised in writing. He had seen! my apartment weeks before rhe project, and claimed he had worked in that building. He charged 145$ for 20 min for his assement. Thus I was shocked when Mike changed the agreement we had obtained months before, on the day of the job: claiming all of a sudden that one of the walls was concrete hence he couldn't move an electrical box to that wall as he had promised in writing. Begging him to try and use another wall, that wasn't concrete didn't help. He right there and then made up another argument that there isn't enough wire for him to move the box. His attitude was humiliating, and extremely impatient and agressive. He didn't care what the outcome will be. I agreed to his new change. Luckily had to drop that portion of the 8,150$ job, since the building management reqiured permits for a new electric box and rewiring. Obtaining permits takes beyond 2 months, as mike said, I therefore asked to split the contract. I wanted to pay only for what will be done during that week. And not 2 months in advance. He was angry. So I simply spoke with him kindly on the phone next morning, asking to meet him, at the expense of my day of work, which I will miss just to meet him at my apartment. Shockingly I found he had no intent to even show up, but just to send his 2 employees. He did not intend to show up after the first day, and said he isn't going to drive all the way to my place. He had no time to see me, since he was 'loosing money'. He urged me to read his new contract/invioce that he just mafe up that morning, and which did not have any itemized prices! The new invoice just had an overall blownup price of over 4,600 $ for all items. Without describing the cost per item. The rewiring and adding of a new electric box had to be delayed. It was the heart of the job, but in the new invoice was all of a sudden reduced to merly 2,700$. The new invoice also included moving the electric box. Which he said was impossible. Mr. Velope got tired of me after 15 minutes over the phone. He said he is dropping the project. Mr. Velope simply damaged!!! my property took the deposit money of 1145$ , left me without bathroom and holeway lighting. His two workers left wholes in my cielings and walls. Mike didn't finish the job. In many of his F reviewed projects, he seems to not finish his job. When I read the F reviews I ignored them on that argument: he didn't finish so it doesn't count. But for the portion of the job that was finished, Mike used cheap and ugly light switches, without asking me what I wanted. Mike's team placed crooked outlets over the old ones. Mike's team replaced an old switch that isn't even connected the anything!!! without even testing or noticing that, and! charged me for it. Mike can't work with plaster walls! Not at all! Or should I say, his employees (If I could send pictures of the terrible way they handled the ceilings). They cut random holes in the bath room, found a water pipe, and then just cut another whole next to it... I thoght I will pay extra for quality reliable work, and peace of mind. As the building super told me, Mike's crew left at 3 PM, the first day accomplising nothing but putting wired messy wholes everywhere. The created wholes in my closet too, wich made all my clothes dirty, and some had to be dry cleaned. Please understand, If the service provider has no time to consult you, or care for your input, move on. Maybe he could use a secretary to save him time, and comunicate to clients, since he considers himself 'a company'. Bottom line: Mike overcharges for poor work, of his employees without overseeing it. His product leve is not customized to the client at all! It's the most basic tear of product. Mike is rude and aggressive, when a controversy rises. Please do not pay his high deposit. Pay him per item, after you see results, or better yet, don't hire him.

Attention members: This client hired us for a rewire of his apartment in a large apartment building that was a completely finished space with no attic or basement access. On our scheduled start date the client greated us and left. He then showed up 4 hours later and requested to change the entire scope of work which was not a problem but the changes he was requesting were physically impossible and prohibited due to building structure. He also did not file the paper work that was required by him to his building management or notify the super of our arrival date and schedule and required shut down of utlitlies. This job was scheduled almost 2 months in advance. This gentleman caused our company a great expense and a lot of wasted time and energy for no reason. We have worked in this building for the last 15 years performing the same tasks at hand as this building is a prewar structure that is very antiquated. Holes were required to run all new wiring and circuitry which client was aware of and was part of his contract. We spent 2 days there removing old electrical and mapping out and prepping for our wire runs. Our work is meticulous and and our reputation for the last 15 years says the same. We have over 700 online reviews and over 15,000 satisfied clients. I am once again disgusted by the lies that are allowed to be posted. I was nothing but professional in every aspect. I was present on site and actually listened to this gentleman repeat the same thing for over 3 hours in person because he wanted what he wanted but I could not perform it due to the technical aspects behind it. In his mind I was refusing to do the job but he could not grasp the concept which was simple that it was not possible. I had to revise his work order completely because of the changes that were imposed by him and when the next day came I needed signatures for approval in order to continue work and have him file the necessary paperwork required. The following morning he began to insist on the same request from the day before. At this time I said it was best to part ways and his initial deposit even though it wasn't enough to cover the work to date would be sufficient not generate another dispute. I am a 3rd generation electrician and run a small 4 man shop where all our technicians are 2nd and 3rd generation electricians themselves. Most of our work is in older homes and we work with plaster walls on a daily basis and we are actually known and respected in the trade for our expertise in older homes. His apartment was completely empty. We use drop cloths, rosin paper, we sweep, dust and mop and even plaster our own holes. We had 8 days of work there so yes there would be holes present until our work was completed. Taking a 10% deposit is more then fair for business practice and we actually take such a small deposit because it makes customers feel comfortable as we are confident they will be more then pleased with the end results. Please visit us on Facebook to see some of our before and after pictures of some of our projects. Thanks in advance, M.Volpe

Everything went very smoothly. We called to first get an estimate. A technician first came out to review the work and give us an accurate estimate, which we accepted. On the scheduled day, the technicians who did the installations (Joe and Igor) were both extremely professional and knowledgeable. Mike did a thorough inspection and came up with a list of recommendations which he put into an email with an estimate. The inspection cost $149 and took about an hour. On hindsight, since I used All City to do the work, perhaps the cost of the inspection could have been used toward the cost of the work, which totaled $1.200. Would definitely use these guys again. They are timely and efficient.

Two men came on the appointed day at the appointed time, one was a master electrician, the other an apprentice. The work was completed in less than the allotted time, no need to turnoff the electricity. The addition of separate lines did the trick and I am so happily vaccuming away while the air conditioner is blasting. So, I would use these guys again. Distance seems to be no object, I live in Caldwell and the size of the job can be big or small. I know there is more electrical issues coming down the pike.
Description of Work: First, I took advantage of the $149 assessment of the state of my electrical status of my 80-year old house. Timely and helpful. The recommendation was to add separate lines for my two air conditioners, which were causing my breakers to go when I used other appliances such as hair dryer and vacuum cleaner. The recommendation also included adding a three-prong plug where needed, replacing my old disconnected smoke detectors and adding GFC outlets in the basement for a cost of $1,200.
