We met Dan Bowen the owner of Precision Decks & Remodeling who had a Sunesta awning on display at the Philadelphia Home Show (March - 2013). Dan Bowen was knowledgeable and displayed a professional attitude. We subsequently scheduled an appointment for a meeting for some further ideas and an estimate. The day of the installation the workers were professional and gentlemanly and made every effort to advise us of the installation and operation of the awning. The workers cleaned up the site when they completed the job.
Description of Work: Installed Sunesta retractable awning (18' x 13') for our side patio and outside GFI electrical outlet box for the motor.

We interviewed three companies in the area and after going on Decks.com and reading the reviews, we gave Precision Decks a call. When Dan Bowen (owner) came out to look at our project we instantly felt confident and excited to work with him, but as in every case the cost of the project was a big consideration. We were pleasantly pleased when Dan's Professional Proposal (some were verbally quoted) came in the middle of the estimates we received from the other companies. When Dan's crew (Jeff, Patrick and Yuver) showed up, you immediately knew that the job was going to be done correctly. The attention to detail, such as the miter cuts, were not going to be overlooked by the crew. Every night the site was cleaned up and debris and tools were put away, even down to sweeping off the saw dust on the deck!! During the project we needed to make some changes with our product selection. Most contractors would have a problem with this, but Dan's only concern was that we were happy. To say that we were satisfied is an understatement. Working with Precision Decks was the best experience we've ever had with any contractor. We would not hesitate to recommend Dan for your next deck project.
Description of Work: Using Fiberon Composite Decking material and Deckorators Vinyl Railing, Precision Decks created essentially three decks (12X20, 4X4, and 16X12) to suit our style of entertaining. Some of the standard materials used by Precision Decks are 6X6 pressure treated support posts and 2X10 12" on center joists. The also incorporated a Trex Lighting system in the stair treads and the rail post.

Dan came in dealt with the township and coordinated multiple subcontractors within a very tight window to get things done. Highly recommend this company.
Description of Work: Dan and his folks came in and corrected multiple code and permit issues left by previous owners of our house. We knew some of the work that had been done may not be up to code, but did not realize there were unclosed permits with the township. This was discovered when we tried to sell. And, of course, had to be resolved before the sale could close. It involved, electrical, plumbing and building issues in a semifinished basement.

I called Precision Decks and Remodeling to have a retractable awning installed at my home. This company was very responsive, and scheduled an appointment immediately. Dan, the owner met with me to discuss my options and he was very knowledgeable about the products. After discussing my options I selected The Sunesta model with a great fabric that matched my home perfectly. The remote control is a great feature and I can't wait to enjoy all the additional shade in the summertime! I'm glad I got it done now because Dan was able to give me an awesome "Off Season" price. Overall I had a great experience with this company, my new awning is beautiful and I would highly recommend this company.

His name is Dan Bowen. It was a great experience. It was very positive. They were very professional and very good to deal with. They were timely and cooperative. Their prices were not the cheapest but they were reasonable. I can't say enough about them. It was a very good value for the end product and the quality. The price was good for the value and the quality was excellent.

The gentleman took his time and drew everything up and said he wasn't sure if his boss would want to do the repairs as what we really needed was to redo the entire deck and he pointed out several places. We have not heard from the company since and have never received a quote. We were disappointed as they had a glowing report on Angie's List, but that was not our experience. We have sent emails and left messages and they have not returned our calls. I did appreciate the man that came out as he was honest but at least get back in touch with us. The gentleman who came out was very good and has changed our mind about repairing and instead, redoing the deck completely. But we will not be using Precision Decks & Remodeling.
Description of Work: We contacted Precision Decks & Remodeling and about a week and a half later they sent a fellow out to look at our cedar deck. The deck is twenty years old and we needed some repair work.

I'm sorry for this miscommunication, but we did email you a professional quote after my foreman had visited your property. It is possible that your email address was input wrong into our system at the office. I always do my best to respond promptly . I don't feel it is fair to give us a bad report . You said yourself that we educated you about what needs to be done to your existing deck and spent the time to meet with you . From start to finish, Dan and his company were completely professional, courteous, and helpful. Construction was quick, clean, and top-quality. While Dan's price point was middle of the road (high bid $16,000 / low bid $7,000), the extra cost over the low bid was easily overshadowed by the quality of service and the exceptionally short timeline to complete the project. Additionally, all inspections scheduling was handled by Dan's company and they passed each inspection on the first time, which says a lot given that we live in an area with a high water table and the pier holes had to be dug 32" deep. In fact, Dan's crew worked in approximately 4-6" of mud the whole week and still managed to leave us with a pristinely clean deck. We were grilling out on our new deck seven (7) days after they started building! We love our new deck and we can't wait to have guests over!
Description of Work: Dan visited our house and developed an effective deck design within the constraints of the rules of our Homeowner's Association (HOA). After his visit, he provided a detailed estimate that included design elements that exceeded the minimum code requirements. Also, during this time, I was deployed to the Middle East, and Dan worked diligently to meet our needs in the design discussion and contract signing phase. When I returned, he obtained approval from our HOA and the city. With approval in hand, his crew built a deck in seven (7) days from ground-breaking to final project inspection by the city. After the deck was built, he personally came by to examine his crews' work and ensure our satisfaction with the deck.

I felt the whole project from start to finish went like clock work .. there were no missed appointments, the start and finish dates were tight. It's one of the things that can be a little unsettling when you're working with a contractor but I was very happy with the timeliness of the project completion.
Description of Work: I was in looking to build a new deck on my second home and met the owner of Precision Decking at the Philadelphia Home Show .. Dan provided a thorough review of options available to me and and the cost/benefit to working with the synthetic decking he proposed. I found him to be knowledgeable, professional, responsive, and yeah, he did an awesome job on my deck. From appointment to final screw, I felt confident and sure that the job was getting done right. In fact, I asked Dan to come back after the deck was completed because I had a couple questions and Dan came within a day and answered my questions. In fact, he was so professional and knowledgeable, I showed him my basement that I was planning on remodeling and he ballparked a price for me and I hired him to take care of that also. Again, I found his work to be quick, professional, and very good quality. I would highly recommend Precision Decks and Remodeling to my friends because I felt all my questions were answered, I was treated with respect and the work was done better than what I expected.

My husband and I went to the Philadelphia Home Show to get some ideas about decks and the decking products available. We went to many vendors, but were most impressed with Dan Bowen and his team. We made arrangements for Dan to evaluate our current layout and give us some ideas. Ultimately, we built an awesome deck with state of the art materials and added a stamped concrete pad that looks beautiful. Dan came with a vast amount of information and suggestions and absolutely no pressure. He showed us the materials available and described their different benefits. He helped us reconfigure the dimensions of the deck to give us maximum seating, add a dimension of interest in the design and generally improve the flow of the space. Dan also engaged his concrete person who also gave us endless possibilities and ideas for a space to place a hot tub. It was a work of art! (And then the dog walked on it, but Dan fixed it.) We feel the product that Dan delivered is a one of a kind, highly functional, extremely well built and well designed product. Instead of a deck, we feel like we built a gorgeous addition!
Description of Work: Dan took our vision of what we wanted and made it possible with state of the art materials within a budget we were comfortable with.

Overall, Great service for a great price!
Description of Work: My wife and I had been considering replacing our wooden deck and stairs for our shore home for quite some time. Due to the harsh saltwater environment we felt it was necessary to eventually get our deck and stares done with the latest building technology, building materials, etc. We also thought it was critical to find a builder who was familiar with using all these types of materials so that we really had not only a builder to help us draw up the plans, but someone who is in the “know” about what types of products that would work best for us in our specific location. We ended up choosing Dan Bowen and Precision Decks over the other builders we received estimates from because of Dan’s attention to detail and his thorough knowledge. We had some minor changes to the original plans and Dan was very accommodating and very competitive priced. The job was done in a timely fashion just as promised and we were very surprised with the final outcome. To say that we were thrilled is an understatement. The work that Precision Decks did was outstanding and I will absolutely use them again for other work on my home and recommend that others consider them as well. Bob & Angela Y. Avalon, NJ

From beginning of the project to the end, workers from Precision Decks & Remodeling always conducted themselves in a professional manner and did not create undue disturbance to those residents who were still living at the building. Problems that occurred during installation, which were primarily due to the age of the wooden deck and wooden beams, were immediately brought to the attention of management for corrective action. The prompt reporting of these issues by Precision Decks & Remodeling minimized the time to completion of the project. Based on their professional performance, we would refer this company to others.
Description of Work: Installation of a new pool deck and new privacy fencing around the pool deck. Additional support joices with twelve inch centers were installed underneath the new pool deck in order to provide a stronger support to the deck. This was recommended strongly by Precision Decks & Remodeling and accepted by the owner.

When we called they set up an appointment and Dan came out on time. He had the samples in the truck and was able to explaint the difference between the decking material-which was a difference from any other contractor that we had come out, The workers were a little late the first day but were aplolgetic and boy did they work. It was the hottest week of the year, but they were professional and cleaned up everyday. We are really pleased with the result and have recieved many compliments from our neighbors. If you are reading this, you have already made a step in the right direction by reaching out to Dan at Precision Decks and Remodeling. My wife and I decided to have a new deck installed and I turned to the Internet to see who was out there. I read reviews of several companies (sometimes there only as good as the paper they are written on) and met with several non impressive representatives whose response time was disappointing. I found Precision?s information on the internet and sent in an email request for information, the next morning Dan was calling to schedule an appointment to found out my plans. I met Dan and explained to him what I was looking for and he had a vast knowledge of the product and a wide selection of product offerings to fit every budget. He pointed out the features of each product and gave sound suggestions of which line best fit my request and gave a competitive quote. I have used several different contractors over the last couple of years for various projects around the house from a kitchen remodel to a roofing and fascia repair; I only wish I would have discovered Precision sooner for those projects. I do know this, any other future projects I have, Dan and his company will be my only choice. I was very impressed with Dan and his follow through and follow up. He was great at keeping me posted throughout the process and has followed up months after the job was completed. But what was equally impressive was the Precision employees that came out and performed the work. Their workmanship was precise and they were punctual, thoughtful and courteous of my property. They were very organized and cleaned up the property every day after their work, nothing was left lingering around. This was not the biggest job but Dan treated me and the project like we where a priority, which says a lot about a company. We now have a safe, beautiful deck that we are very proud of and can enjoy nice summer evenings.
Description of Work: My wife and I were sick of looking at cement steps leading down to dirt and grass in our backyard. The yard had a lot of potential so we both came to the conclusion we wanted the steps gone and a deck built. After speaking with several other home remodeling businesses we ended up choosing Precision Decks & Remodeling because the had the highest overall customer satisfaction rating. We were not wrong, I highly recommend their services for all future home remodeling projects.

Overall I am very happy with the end product of my basement finishing. The easiest way for me to write any kind of a review is a pros and cons so I'll give you that below. Pros:1. Did what they said they were going to do (seems obvious, but go ask people about remodeling jobs they have had done) 2. Good attention to detail even on subtle things we hadn't explicitly discussed. Examples included CFL bulbs in the recessed lights, insulating a wall that wasn't exactly on the exterior (and therefore not required by code) because it was the right thing to do, using rounded corner boards where my toddler would play, etc.3. Like any basement remodel, stuff comes up since it wasn't part of new construction or in the original designers plans. I appreciated that Dan was up front and always came with solutions that made sense.4. Quality is good. If you want a rock bottom priced solution and will accept cut rate work, I'm not sure he's your guy. But if you want good work at a fair price you should call him.5. Knows how to use technology. This was a big deal for me as I travel on business frequently so the fact that he was comfortable with email, text message, etc was a huge benefit for me. 6. Flexible -- I had a bunch of other activity going on with my house, plus my travel schedule. Dan quickly adjusted without penalty as he knew my situation before we started. The project took a little longer as a result but we were flexible with each other and got what we needed. Cons:1. Paint wasn't a good quality paint. If I had it to do over again I would've asked him what paint he was using and paid the few bucks extra to trade up or provided my own.2. Along the same lines the painters were probably my least favorite group of tradesmen that came through. They tracked some wet paint up to the main floor and onto my hardwood (to use the bathroom I'm sure) that took me a good hour or so to clean up. The paint work they did (probably matters more) was good but not stellar.3. I wish they would've waited until the very end to cut into my duct work for heat and A/C. They did it in during initial framing (and it was July so it was hot) and it ended up driving my electric bill up a bunch. The taped on cardboard just fell off and ended up messing up the paint work anyway. So my recommendation would be to ask them to wait. So this is a detailed list that might make you hesitant but at the end of the day you definitely should check with Dan if you're going to do a basement. The pro's definitely outweighed the cons for me (and no one gets an empty con's list in my book so take it for what it is worth) and if I had it to do again I'd still hire him. One thing I can't tell you is how well he'll stand behind his work because we just finished but I'll come back and update it if I end up needing anything and it goes sideways. Otherwise, if there are no updates after this you can assume all is well. March 2013 Update: 6 or so months later and I'm still happy with my decision to do the basement work and for having hired Dan and his teams to do it. The space has served the desired purpose in my home and I'm still happy with the quality. No issues to date.
Description of Work: Dan and his teams took my unfinished basement in the house i just bought and built two large rooms for me -- a rec room for the kids and a home gym. This ended up being a pretty big space -- north of 1000 sq feet. He handled everything from permits and drawings through construction and final inspection (using subs at times it appeared). The only part of the basement he didn't do is flooring, and that is apparently typical for a basement finishing project. I had multiple other providers bid the job and Dan wasn't the cheapest but I felt like his thought process during pre-sales was more thorough and less likely to have the classic "oh, that wasn't in the bid, that is a change and costs $xxxx" stuff plus I really just felt like he was the type of person who cared about this work product so I went with him. Both of those gut feels turned out right and, importantly, there were no cost overruns.

Dan began before the permit was approved, got fined, and had to stop construction until permit went through. Part way through the construction we realized that the lower deck was being build significantly higher than the original deck, which would obstruct our view of the water from the higher deck. Thankfully, when the city realized this, they made Dan redesign the deck, so it ended up only being slightly higher than the original. We made some additional color changes with the railing, which Dan did comply with, albeit, charging us the difference (fair enough). As long as we hadn't paid Dan the last little bit, we were still able to get him to come out to fix/tweak problems with the deck, of which there were a few. Once he was paid, though, he was in the wind. For example, after the first year some of the colonial balusters broke. We went everywhere to try to find them, but lumber yards around here don't carry that particular size/brand. I even tried to find them myself online to no avail. Multiple emails and phone calls to Dan requesting info on where to purchase additional balusters yielded promises to "stop by" and drop some off "this weekend." Inevitably, this weekend turned into the following, and then the following, and the following. No, I'm not exaggerating, I have the emails to prove it. Eventually, after over a year of this, he did drop off some additional balusters (never did tell us where we could buy them ourselves). Recently, it came to my attention that the posts supporting the ramp are just resting on the ground, rather than being buried, or cemented in, or affixed in any other way. One or two of them have always slightly leaned in rather than being straight. As a result, the ramp has always tilted in a bit in to the left. Not long ago we discovered that one of the main posts for the ramp suddenly became pushed in significantly (40-45 degree angle). Was it the wind, did a car push it, was it gravity and the shifting sand? We may never know. There is no physical damage/scuff marks to the post itself. So, if it was pushed by a car's bumper, it certainly wasn't with any force. Had the posts been buried or cemented in, I believe this would not have happened. Nonetheless, when we discovered it, we contacted Dan immediately, and asked him to come out to repair it, explaining that it was dangerous and someone could get hurt, and/or the entire ramp could collapse and damage the deck /ramp even more. (Incidentally, we also asked him if he could give us an estimate for railings for 4 additional decks while he was here repairing the ramp.) We rent the lower unit out during the summer, and as our current tenants have a daughter in a wheel chair, we could not ask them to use the other entrance. They would have to use the ramp, which was now potentially unsafe. Dan agreed to come out the following Tuesday to repair the ramp. He never showed, never called. I called on Wednesday and spoke with someone who answers his phones. I explained the entire situation all over again, including the urgency of the problem, and asked that Dan call me back or come out ASAP. Nothing. The next day I called again. Nothing. Finally, I emailed Dan, to which he replied that he had been, "rained out" and would be here Saturday. (It never rained in Ocean City, where we live.) Saturday came and went, no Dan. When I emailed him again, he said that he had originally been planning to come out on Saturday because a customer in a nearby town had requested an estimate, but that the customer had cancelled on him for that day, so he decided it wasn't worth it to drive out here just to fix our deck. I guess that safety and that of our tenants as well as the stability of the entire deck just wasn't that important. Neither was the estimate for the other 4 decks that we have. I have told him it could be a lawsuit for me and even for him, as it quite literally could be if someone gets hurt, but even that does not motivate him into motion. At this point it looks like we may have to find someone else to fix the problem, and hopefully, correct the construction so that the posts are not just resting precariously on the ground. I called my city to ask if this type of construction is allowed, and they said that at the time it was build, it may have been (even though it's only been a couple of years), but if it were built now, city code would require the posts to be fixed in some way, not just resting on the ground. Dan will show up in the beginning, but if there are any problems, or if your deck doesn't hold up...if you have paid Dan, don't hold your breath waiting for him to come fix the problem. Dan's first and only priority is to make money, and that means current jobs only, and only big jobs, not little nickle and dime repair jobs. Your deck problems are not his problems, even if he built your deck. Also, although Dan does not smoke, his workers were ALL chain-smokers, and they leave butts everywhere. ********* Update to Dan's comments*** He is lying through his teeth. He absolutely started the job without a permit, and at the time he assured me that this type of thing is no big deal and is done all the time (not in OC, he found out)--after a neighbor complained he had to stop for nearly 2 weeks until they got the permit, and the fine was a heck of a lot more than $50--it was a few hundred dollars--we paid it and he deducted it from the final balance. Can't believe you would lie like that, Dan. Dan stood me up twice for the repair, and admitted that the second time it was because a woman who lived near me and wanted an estimate had cancelled on him. It wasn't worth it to come out just to do our repair--it was only worth it if he was doing the estimate as well. Dan NEVER gave me the name and manufacturer of the spindles, he is also lying about this. I went to three local lumber yards with a sample spindle, and no one could match it. I even tried online. To this day I don't know what brand they are, so if more break I guess I'm out of luck. Dan is well aware that his employees smoke. I'm going to have to lower his rating on professionalism for lying through his teeth about everything--definitely not professional, and shows what kind of person he was.
Description of Work: Project involved complete deck and railing remodeling from the ground up, including 2 large decks, 3 gates, an L-shaped wheel chair ramp and stairs connecting the ramp to the lower deck, although new decks and ramps were to be the same size and dimentions as original decks. We got 3 estimates before choosing Dan.

My company NEVER starts a job without a building permit. There was a fine of 50.00 for a dumpster. It was a misscommuncation , that is all. EVERYTHING was submitted by a liscenced architect. You never complained during the job? I am going to stay professional here....... I am commited to my customers 100%. I always provide a great experience. I had completed this work in March of 2009 . Member never complained during the job but now choses to attack me. I will not defend myself , I will however state the facts: 1- I take care of all permits for my customers and NEVER start a job without building permits. 2- First and foremost I asked Member to find a local carpenter immediately to do her repair because we were not able to help her immediately. It did rain 2.6" in Atlantic City on Monday 8/27/2012 (20 minutes from Member's house). This was the only day I was able to help her until the following week. Something hit and moved the post. It did not move on its own.Remember 3.5 years ago this deck passed all final inspections . I am obviously not going to help her now. 3- I gave Member the manufacturer info so she could get replacement spindels. It is a very common item in Ocean City and is not hard to get. I don't know how her spindels were damaged. Member did send several emails and I eventualy gave her the spindels free of charge. 4- My employees do an excellent job and are always respectful of owners properties. They are skillfull mechanics. I don't know or hear of anyone smoking or being direspectful. READ SOME REVIEWS , THIS STATEMENT IS A FACT. READ SOME REVIEWS PLEASE

I wanted a simple, yet high quality deck for the back of our house, and needed it to be finished by June. After getting three estimates, we chose Dan and his company, in part because of his responsiveness and attention to detail in the estimate process. Then, we crossed our fingers. We're used to contractors who don't show up when they say, start later than they promised, and fail to deliver exactly what was agreed upon. Not Precision Decking. You could set your watch to their arrival time in the morning. It took him only one week--just like he promised--once they got started. He handled all the township and made immediate adjustments if I pointed out any problems. Best of all, the deck looks awesome. I rated the service all A's except for "Price." I gave that a C because the designation for that rating indicates "Fair." As Dan told me on the phone before he gave me an estimate: "If you're looking for the lowest bidder, cheapest deal, that's not me. But, I will give you the fairest price." I highly recommend Dan Bowen and Precision Decking.
Description of Work: We built a 24' by 17' square deck made of Azek PVC material and white PVC railing, two stairs. 3' to 5' in height (sloping yard). Included materials, labor, permitting.

Overall it was a great experience going through the estimating process.
Description of Work: We used Dan to help us design our future deck and give us an estimate for planning purposes. I found him to be very responsive and very easy to work with. When we are ready to do our deck project in Avalon I will be calling Dan to get the work done! Great guy, very professional, and really knows his stuff.
