Very very disappointed in Silva Guard. They were recommeden by the NJ Arborist Association....so they charge a lot. They sprayed our trees a month later then their own schedule...after infestations and fungus had already set in. They did not follow up on their own spray program or checked up on our beautiful old trees. Had to constantly call them and ask owner to help. He would promise results only to have the whole cycle start over. Would not recommend to anyone who cares about their trees.

Description of Work: Having read some good reviews here and elsewhere, I decided to contact this company since they are local in my County. We needed a professional assessment of several trees on our property. I called at least five times over the course of a month and left messages each time with a secretary or answering service. I never received any sort of response. For all I know, their workmanship could be excellent. Nevertheless I was quite disappointed with the "radio silence" treatment. I have since contracted with a different arborist/tree service.

Description of Work: SilvaGuard removed a large tree from our backyard that was in a tight spot between our pool and house. They were very professional and did a great job.

We have many trees near the house so I asked Silva Guard to remove limbs that could cause problems if they fell on the house (an early snow storm in 2011 that came before the trees had lost their leaves caused a branch to crash through the roof). They gave a very detailed estimate. For obvious business they also recommend working on some other trees further from the house, but they showed the price for each tree they proposed working on.so I could pick and chose what to do. They came more or less when they said they would (they apparently do a lot of emergency work for commercial groups so when there is a storm they may get delayed, but since all of their work is outside the house, this is not a problem). They got most of the work done the first day, but had to return two days later to finish. Everything was cleaned up very well, and the wood chips (that I wanted to keep) were dumped exactly where I requested. After they left I checked the work against the quote list, and noticed that one branch had not been removed. They immediately agreed to come back and take care of it. I would have rated them as an and quot;Aand quot; except that I had used them once before when I had one tree felled but left laying on the ground since it was in an out of the way place, but on that occasion they left a lot of small branches laying around in the area that I had to go move myself. I suppose that may have been my error in not being clearer about what I wanted done - and I did use them again after that.

I have used this company in the past and found them to be quite good. That is, until today when I was faced with behavior which, quite frankly, was shocking, upsetting, and even a bit frightening. The project was disposal of a tree on our roof. I was told the workers would arrive about 10 am but that we should have our driveway cleared of cars by 9:30 am. At 8:00 the truck showed up and entered our driveway. My wife was in the shower preparing to go to work. I was asleep having worked the previous night on a freelance project. I shot out of bed and told the truck driver that I was told they would arrive at 9:30 - 10:00 am not at 8:00 am. The truck departed.I called the sales rep with whom we have dealt with for years and who is quite reliable and reasonable. I got his voice mail. I called the company's main office. The man I spoke with went into an explanation of how the company was backed up with work because of the recent snowstorm. Being retired and having had my own business, I was sympathetic to a point. However, the gentleman on the phone became more and more defensive and, in effect, told me it was my fault because: a) I should be lucky that my house was being serviced since the company is so backed up and b) I should not have sent the crew away. In fact, I did not send the crew away. I told them was the company's rep had told me. They went away on their own. After listening to the person on the phone tell me all about his problems and not once mentioning how he could solve mine (getting rid of the tree) and implying that I was somewhat of a jerk for not allowing his crew to do its work, I told him that I expected the work to be done today as promised. In addition, a neighbor told me that no tree work is supposed to be conducted in our township before 9 am (noise issues). I cannot confirm that as being accurate. I am sympathetic but after Hurricane Irene we patiently waited nearly two months for trees in our yard to be disposed of by this company. From past experience, the company was quite reliable and certainly a pleasure to work with. But this person on the phone treated me not as a customer but as an adversary and a fool who had the nerve to complain.I would have left that alone except that about an hour later the gentleman called back and told me that the company would not get to my house today and that I as an "a-- hole." I hung up at that point. Frankly, the person on the phone seemed out of control. I expected him to march over to my house and punch me in the nose. Being in my mid-sixties and with a host of complaints, I am sure the gentleman on the phone would easily be able to beat me up. I understand the pressure the company is under but there is no excuse for calling me a name for complaining about a commitment broken. Fortunately, there is much competition in the area and I am checking out other tree services. I later found out that the gentleman on the phone was a co-owner of the business. Obviously this company cannot handle a large volume of business and they must be under tremendous pressure. But calling customers names is not only unprofessional, it is somewhat frightening.I am retired now except for an occasional freelance project (like the one I was working on last night) and some college teaching. I certainly learned a lesson about this company today. Sadly excellent experiences with this company were washed away by one angry and seemingly out-of-control individual. I guess there is a lesson there for us all.
Description of Work: No services were performed as the company did not turn up as promised.
