Radon Shield replaced a broken fan on my radon remediation system. The replacement was in place and working within 4 hours of my initial call. Benedict discussed the pros and cons of increasing the fan power. He clearly explained the potential benefit, pulling up the relevant literature from each manufacturer so that I understood the difference. Having just finished my basement, I eventually decided to upgrade the power (with a small increase in cost) but did not feel any pressure to do so. I was very satisfied with my overall interaction, and wouldn't hesitate to call Radon Shield again.

OUTSTANDING WORK on short notice. The Radon Shield team did some very impressive work for us and we will certainly reach-out to them for other services in the future. For this project, we asked Mr. Ugorji and his team to install 2 separate radon mitigation systems for a large sq ft home with a basement air radon concentration well over 4 pCi/L where masonry drilling would be required for the installation. We also faced difficult time constraints, but Mr. Ugorji arranged to begin work the next day. Before visiting the work site, we discussed the installation, the home, expectations. He provided a clear and accurate assessment of the costs and time/effort required for our project (our final bill matched his initial assessment, nothing added, no surprises). The location for the installations, routing of piping and wiring, model fans to be used, attachment and sealing methods, follow-up testing, and much more were discussed before work began. Our preferences were addressed and pros/cons were weighed. Mr. Ugorji worked efficiently and his team tidied-up as the work progressed. All aspects of the installation were handled professionally. Care was taken to upgrade remote junction boxes and other components impacted by the new system. The routing of the suction/exhaust piping was thoughtfully designed, securely installed, and tightly sealed. When both systems were turned-on, they presented matching suction levels, indicating effective under-slab suction. The end result is a very effective radon mitigation system that has (after a few days of constant electronic monitoring) achieved a basement air concentration of 0.35 pCi/L. Mr. Ugorji followed-up with us a few days later to check on the new radon test levels and to ensure everything was as expected.

It is my absolute pleasure to write this raving review for Benedict Ugorji (the owner) at Radon Shield LLC and I make no commission recommending him. The radon level was 1.8 pCi/L when I bought my home in Holmdel, NJ, in February 2021. I wanted to lower the radon level for personal health reasons (I have a young 3 year old) not for a real estate transaction (goal level <4 pCi/L). Safe levels were established in the 1970s (The history, development and the present status of the radon measurement programme in the United States of America. Radiat Prot Dosimetry 2015; 167(1-3): 8-14) so maybe new safe levels should be lower than the current recommendation to reflect available technologies for radon mitigation as there is no safe level. I spent $700+ for a new Fantech Rn4EC-4 fan and to seal the French drain serviced through RAdata in Flanders, NJ, and the level was unchanged at 1.6 and 1.9 pCi/L after servicing. RAdata is a disorganized business that will recommend the most expensive system (the energy recovery ventilator) that costs $3000 that other radon companies (I got two second opinions) will say that it does not work. Then RAdata proposed to install a second mitigation system right next to the current system, but could not intelligently justify why the second system would be right adjacent to the current system where there is already subterranean air flow generated by the current system instead of tackling the no subterranean air flow zone at the farthest end of the basement. Please refer to my review about RAdata on Yelp and Facebook and my subsequent reply to their response for details. I kept looking for another radon company and fortunately I found a gem in the unscrupulous radon business. The gem is Benedict whom I unwaveringly and unequivocally recommend. Benedict is responsive – he patiently listened about my radon situation and collected information about my pre and post service radon level and even information down to the granular level like what make and model fan RAdata installed. Benedict came to my home for the consultation, to run the diagnostic tests, he proposed solutions and offered his rational, he did the installation of the second mitigation system (in the area of the basement with no subterranean air flow) from start to finish by himself, he used a more powerful and cheaper fan for the second system (than the one RAdata installed for my first system), and he guaranteed to lower the radon to a specified level in his contract. Benedict charges one flat service fee (whereas RAdata charges the first hour and then at 15 min increments so you are discouraged from asking questions). Benedict took his time to explain to me about how a fan’s performance (like moving air measured in cubic feet per minute or CFM) is affected by your soil’s static pressure (the value on your u-tube manometer). He even followed up with me on a Saturday via text message about the short term radon level measured with the Corentium radon detector (while the charcoal kits are being sampled) and guided me through interpreting the short versus long term average as the values were quite different. We touched based again when the charcoal test came back and the levels were an astonishing 0.5 and 0.6 pCi/L!!!

I called Radon shield after reading all of the good reviews. My basement radon levels were quite high at times, ranging from <4 in the summer time to 60+ in the colder months. Benedict asked me a few questions on the phone, gave me a quote, and then we scheduled a time for him to do the work. His communication was excellent and was very prompt with answering questions. As far as the actual work, he was able to use the sump pump as a place to connect the vent fan to instead of drilling into the concrete floor. With a very strong fan, he was “90% confident” that it would take care of the very high radon problem. If it didn’t, he explained to me the extra steps and cost that would be required. Thankfully, the first situation worked and he was able to keep the costs to the quote over the phone and my radon levels decreased to .4 after 2 days! Above all, I felt that I could trust Benedict’s character and his work. Highly recommend!

Benedict and his crew installed mitigation systems on both the house we are in the process of selling, and purchasing. They arrived promptly, were a pleasure to deal with and finished the work ahead of schedule. They do excellent work, and I would absolutely recommend his services to anyone looking to install a mitigation system in their home.

I talked on the phone with someone who was rather rude. He told me what he believed the problem was with out ever offering to actually look at the machine, and said it would cost $650, maybe more.

I submitted two requests for a radon fan replacement and never got a response. Went elsewhere for the work.

Radon Shield was hired after I got a higher then expected reading for radon in by home when selling it. Benedict shared a lot of great advice about radon gas in the home, he was able to schedule the install in a very fast time frame which was extremely helpful because I was selling my home. The quality of work was outstanding and he did a great job explaining thing to me and by wife. He also did a great job cleaning up after the install. I would hire Radon Shield in the future in needed.

The service was a Radon Remediation System. Benedict and his brother were GREAT. I needed it to sell my home and they drive 90 miles and come out in just a couple days. The work involves boring through your basement floor to dirt and running PVC up and out though a wall up to above the roofline. Despite the complexity it only took a few hours and they did a great job. We were selling the house and could not because of a test over 4.0. I checked Angie's List and called on a Monday, we cemented the deal on Tuesday and they came out on Thursday. A test after installation resulted in a reading of 0.3.

The project went very well - Benedict explained what he would need to do clearly before we started, was prompt on the day we scheduled the fan installation, and worked efficiently. Our radon level is now 0.3 in our basement following fan installation. Highly recommend Radon Shield!

They did great work. They explained clearly what needed to be done and they were able to do it well and efficiently. Our radon levels were 11 and they were able to bring them down to .15.

Radon Shield was very responsive from the first time I contacted them all the way through the installation of the radon remediation system. They are very clear up front about the cost of the system and the cost of potential add on’s if they encounter something unforeseen during the installation and they do a very thorough walk through with you to help design the system to meet your needs from radon remediation to aesthetics. During the installation, the team is very considerate, neat, and timely. Ultimately what matters is whether the system works and in our case, it has worked very well at reducing radon levels in our basement from 12-13 pCi/L before remediation to 1-2 pCi/L.

The workmanship and professionalism of Benedict and his partner Richman was a 5 star operation from beginning to end. They worked together as a team paying attention to every detail of the mitigation process. My radon level was a 5.4 prior to the reduction system. Post radon test, it is a 0.3. I used the service and the technician is easy to communicate and make appointment. He arrived on time and discussed a few options to make best use the space and minimize the noise. After the first installation, the fan is a little bit over sized and noise and he offered a free replacement to a smaller fan and now I can’t hear anything. He is very up front about the cost and send out contract in a very professional way.

Great. No surprises or surprise extra charges. Actually, gave a price break after they finished the job because they did not have to seal the perimeter as they originally thought they would have to.
