My home, which was built in 1999, had radon levels in the 2.5 to 4.0 pCi/L range. For my own comfort level, and because of all the bad things I have read about the dangers of radon gas, I decided to seek a solution. Benedict was extremely professional at each step of the process. He communicated very well and set up an appointment in a timely fashion. When he arrived with his helper we discussed some options as far as placement of the system and he went to work. The job itself was neat and complete and I was pleased with the overall appearance of the mitigation system that they put in. Most importantly, the results were terrific! The charcoal cannister test showed my radon level had dropped down to 0.3 pCi/L. The air in my basement seems fresher now as well. In summary, I would absolutely recommend Radon Shield and Benedict for anyone looking to install a radon mitigation system.

Radon in my basement was 20 pCi/L, it is now 1 pCi/L. Radon Shield installed one ventilation system, drilled through a concrete block, and came up with a creative way to secure the ladder on a slopped yard to install the exhaust pipe outside the house. He showed up without the correct tools and was unable to do the job. He grumbled about street parking in the city (though I had confirmed that he does work in Philadelphia). This created a huge hassle as we were on a tight time schedule and had to go back to the drawing board to find another company and start from scratch.

This was the second company I hired. First company was cheaper but technician did not seem comfortable with the work to be done. Radon Shield responded on a Saturday afternoon and the work was completed by Tuesday morning. Benedict was excellent in responsiveness both before and after the project. It was a huge job and Radon Shield worked overnight to complete the job and not disrupt business in the area. The follow up radon report showed the levels had gone below 1 in just a few days. I would recommend this company to any family member or friend. Benedict was an unexpected angel in our lives. I purchased a Safety Siren Pro Series 3 Radon gas detector for my basement. After a few days, the reading went up to 4.6 (above the acceptable range). I turned on two exhaust fans in my basement, and left the doors open for ventilation. Within 1 week, the reading went down to 2.3 and stayed there. I was pretty convinced that we didn’t need any mitigation. However, six months later, I checked again. It started out at 1.1, then crept up to 4.1 within 8 weeks! That was it - I decided that I could no longer rely on my basement fans. I called 3 separate companies. Radon Shield was in the middle, as far as cost estimate (over the phone). But I was most impressed with Benedict’s knowledge and experience, and he explained everything very clearly to a lay person. He also had very positive reviews, so we ended up choosing Radon Shield. Benedict sent the contract online, which I signed and returned online - all very convenient. Benedict and his partner came on time on the specified date, and they were done within 4 hours. They cleaned up the work areas when they were done, and everything was in good working order. I ended up having to install the larger fan, which cost an extra $150. Two days later, my reading was at 0.4! Very pleased with the results! Very pleased with Benedict and Radon Shield!

From the moment they walked in the house I could tell it was going to go well. Benedict was friendly and courteous. They worked quickly and efficiently. I was very impressed because they closed the baby gate at the top of the basement stairs each and every time they had to get something from the truck. I would hire them again in a second. Walked us through the post mitigation process with permits and inspection. Such a good experience.

we were finishing our basement and testes the radon levels down there. they were not above the 'red flag' levels but certainly not close to the zero that you would like (but cannot possibly get in our part of NJ). either way, we were given all the time to ask questions over the phone, a first visit to check things out, and then a very quick appointment and installation of the radon mitigation system. from start to finish Benedict was helpful, professional, and extremely responsive (to calls, emails, and texts)! the work was done FAST, cleanly, and it was solid work. in the end, the numbers were brought down significantly and we really appreciate that. thanks!

Very professional. I received very clear instructions as to what things to check for in the way of emission system (passive) and we agreed quickly on what to do to convert the system to active.

Don't even waste time looking for another radon service provider - Benedict from Radon Shield is the BEST. I use Angie's List frequently for contractors and had never seen somebody with reviews as stellar as Benedict's and when he came to do the work, I understood why. Most importantly, he reduced our radon levels from >7 to 0.5. But more than that, he was an excellent communicator, both leading up to and during the work, his pricing was more than fair (and substantially lower than what we were quoted from other service providers), he is clearly an expert in this field and gave me full confidence that he knew how to fix our problem, and he had many qualities that I have found rare in other contractors - honesty, humility, friendliness. Like other reviewers have said, he did a great job and left our house spotless. Honestly, from somebody who bids out every piece of work to at least 4 or 5 people, I can tell you that you don't need to call anybody but this guy - he is awesome.

From start to finish, a simply awesome experience - highly recommended!

Great Job. Discussed what was needed on phone and then again onsite after inspection. Had to extend the radon line to another location due to size of the area (and it wasnt easy becuase of the pre-existing walls in most of basement). Was able to figure out the most unobtrusive way and get the lines buried into the subslab. Installed the system and cleaned up everything. Had the electrician come to complete the work for fan on time the same day, and then gave recommendations on devices to monitor the radon on an ongoing basis. We purchased, and have now had it for 4-5 months, and the readings went down from 11-13 uPCi before, to now in the most central location and not near the pipe, it reads long term average of 1.75. uPCi. Some days lower than 1, and other days no more than 2.7 (rainy days). Overall good service, and would use again and recommend!

Excellent. Radon Shield was very knowledgeable. They were prompt, efficient and succeeded in getting our radon level down even lower than we had hoped.

Courteous to a fault, professional and job well executed. I would hire Benedict again. He is not the cheapest, but I was totally satisfied.
