+ -1 moreThey wanted all the money upfront, not just the deposit, before starting work. This is not acceptable, since I've sued every contractor for lack of performance when I foolishly agreed to such terms in the past. Monarch ultimately decided they'd rather cancel the contract and lose my business of several thousand dollars to their competitors than agree to be paid upon satisfactory and timely completion of the job.

+ -1 moreI called and explained my situation, the person on the phone was very responsive asked for me to send photos over and someone would be assigned. I double checked that they work in my area and stated I needed this done very quickly. She assured me it was not the busy season right now and someone would be in touch. I called back the next day to verify that the photos were received I was told yes and has been assigned, he would be calling me over the weekend or Monday the latest, I stressed again the time crunch, she said she understood. Over a week later still no call. I called another Angie's List company, Riverview Pools on Monday they were here on Tuesday and will be doing the work next week.
Description of Work: Cement patio was removed, needed the coping, skimmer line, etc checked and any necessary work to be preformed.

+ -1 moreIt was the first and last time I would ever use them. The experience was very bad. The timeframe they promised, the time they came and everything else was totally ridiculous. It took them 3 months to repair a pool and I'd had an extension done in 10 weeks. He came three hours one day, two hours two weeks later and three hours four weeks later. All they wanted was the money and check upfront. I would never use them again. They were the worst people I've ever dealt with. They finally finished when I called and threatened a lawyer on them.
Description of Work: I used Monarch Pool & Spa to repair a pool.

+ -1 moreAs a result of our poor experience I would never use monarch again.
Description of Work: Opened our pool and was supposed to start up our pool heater every year and did so every year for the last five years exxcept for this year. Never mentioned anything about faulty safety shut off device being non operational. Last year when. When Monarch opened our pool instead of telling us that the safety shut off had to be repaired the technician just bypassed the safety switch. Unfortunately didn't find out this was the case until we later sold the house and the buyers pool inspector found this. Made us feel like we had been neglecting our pool which was not the case. Between the 300 charged for opening and 400 charged for closing the pool every year one would think Monarch could have advised us of this issue and perhaps they would have generated a little extra income from this. + -1 moreOverall it was a very good experience. The total project took much longer than expected (2 weeks) because we realized that I had a broken underground pipe we they started up the new pump and filter (not their fault). Also, the person who came to estimate the job showed up when I was not at home, rather than when they told me he would come, and failed to notice that the new heater would require different gas and electrical connections. Therefore, the heater could not be installed until a week later. I would insist on being present when the job is estimated so that you can ask questions and talk through the installation process prior to accepting their bid.
Description of Work: Monarch installed all new pool equipment for my inground pool. Equipment included a new cartridge filter, Hayward Super Pump, Automatic Chlorinator, Polaris Booster Pump, and Rheem 400,000 BTU Heater.

+ -1 moreWas a perfect example of how a service relationship should be. We went in, spoke with the salesperson who helped us with the sizing and with the town permits. The company called to schedule. The installers came exactly when they were supposed to. They worked very, very hard in the hot, hot heat and our family was swimming that summer. I wish all companies were this easy to deal with.

+ -1 moreTHEY WERE A LITTLE TOO PRICEY. GENERALLY THEY'RE RELIABLE. THEY WILL MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH YOU AND WILL SHOW UP WHEN THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO. THE POOL HAS TO BE READY. YOU HAVE TO PREP THE POOL. THEY DON'T GO OUT OF THEIR WAY. THEY JUST COME AND START ON THE WORK.
Description of Work: THEY CLOSED THE POOL. THEY PUT IN CHEMICALS, BLEW THE LINES, WINTERIZED THE POOL, AND TURNED OFF THE BURNER.
