Description of Work: Gugliocciello Masonry added a stone fire-pit and patio extension to my existing retaining wall and planted area they had installed earlier. Absolutely wonderful workmanship and quality. The curved wall installation required great skill and craftsmanship making the area beautiful and pleasing to use. Bob Gugliocciello designed the layout in the existing shrub garden enhancing the effect without damaging or disturbing any plantings. Family (especially grandkids) and friends enjoy the area. I've learned over the years that choosing a service from a family of craftsman (masons) is essential to a quality product. Great to work with and I Highly recommend.

Description of Work: GUGLIOCCIELLO MASONRY LLC provided a beautiful curved retaining wall and planter. The wall design layout and craftsmanship are outstanding. All work areas were cleaned daily during the construction and the lawn was meticulously finished and transitioned to the wall. We have received many comments from neighbor and visitors. Masonry skills are excellent and priced appropriately for this quality work.

Response from Gugliocciello Masonry LLC
This person contacted me for an estimate in June, I went to their house at the time that was scheduled, knocked multiple times, and tried calling their phone number but got no response from either, so I took my measurements went home and came up with a price, at which point I tried to call again and received no response. Then they leave this negative review almost 4 months later, without even listing a reason for the review. I even reached out again to find out why the negative review was left and like all the times before was unable to get ahold of anyone. I can only hope that this review was a mistake on their part, because I cant see any reason for why they would have left it.

When I first began my search for a masonry contractor, I took the prudent route and solicited estimates from six different service providers. Of the six, only four responded with phone calls; of those four contractors, only three showed up in person to actually look at the proposed work; of those three, only one contractor actually conducted himself in a professional manner, taking his time to measure out the scope of the project, took accurate measurements, recorded the information, spoke to me about my expectations, provided me with his approach to the work, assured me that he would personally be doing the work, offered references for jobs he had performed in the area, suggested ideas after LISTENING to what I was wanting to do, and then promised that he would have a written estimate emailed to me that same night. True to his word, that same night Bob Guggliocciello emailed to me a detailed, written estimate which outlined the scope of the project, the phases of the project, the materials he would be using, the estimated time it would take, a proposed start date, and a reasonable price for the work, which included all materials, special equipment requirements and taxes. It was straightforward and easy to understand, and encompassed the whole project. This was for the first project - the foundation, chimney and steps. The project was estimated at $22,435. Bob only asked for $5000 partial payment to start the job. This was important to because it showed to me that Bob had a viable business model that meant he was going to be around to finish the job as well as start it. He also didn't ask for another installment payment until he was more than half way done. And true to his word, Bob was on-site every working day to do the work himself along with his small crew of workers who have been working with him for over fifteen years. This means that the quality of work is consistent and that the actual owner of the company is standing by his work. While doing the work, Bob and his assistant masons were focused and I always had the impression they were acting like they were working on their own homes, with the professionalism and care they were using in doing the masonry work. What was also impressive was that at the end of each work day, they took the time to make sure the work area was clean and organized. They gathered their tools and materials and placed them neatly to the side, to make sure that my access to my driveway and home were not inhibited in any way. Also, during the course of the work, Bob took the time to show me what was being done and explaining the progress of the work, and why he was doing the work in the manner that he was doing. He always took time to answer my questions. During the course of doing the work, my family and neighbors were commenting on how great the house was looking and that it looked like a new house. Bob picked up four new jobs from folks in the neighborhood who were not only impressed by his work but by his work ethic. Throughout the project, I asked Bob to do some small additional tasks that he gladly did. And when the job was done - the estimated price was the price that I was charged. There were no surprises or any increases. And Bob personally came back and spent a whole day to make sure the area was cleaned and looked like he and his team had never even been there. All my family and neighbors have done nothing but praised the way the house looks. and quot; This looks great!and quot; and and quot; It's like a brand new house!and quot; and and quot;Wow, this is so beautiful - it really has transformed the house!and quot; has been the consistent reaction from family and friends who had seen the house before the work was done. Some had even drove past the house because they didn't recognize it after the great work Bob had done. The cultured stone that Bob applied to the house was probably the most difficult to apply since it is very time consuming and the application involves a lot of detailed work. In addition, Bob used real state to outline the border of the house and on the front steps - whereas a lot of other masons used cultured stone for these pieces. The difference in quality and how it looks is remarkable. I have had two friends who are general contractors visit me and they both told me that the work that Bob did was top-notch. To me that was the icing on the cake - when you have people in the business - people who really are peers - give you that kind of review, that really confirms that the work is of the best quality. I appreciated the professionalism, integrity, patience and pride that Bob displayed in his work and in his dealings with me. It was for that reason that I when I decided to re-do my backyard, and replace my deck that was damaged from Sandy with a whole new look using pavers, and even thought of having an outdoor grill island built, that I asked Bob to give me an estimate. Again, Bob followed the same approach he used with the foundation and chimney. He provided a detailed estimate, etc. The whole process was a repeat of the first project. Bob again did the work and again was on time and the estimated price was the actual price. And the reviews from family and friends was just as astounding. They couldn't believe how my backyard had been transformed. Bob had done it once again - exceeding expectations and conducting himself with professionalism and integrity. The backyard was a challenge and Bob offered many ideas and suggestions to help. If a homeowner is looking for a mason who does the best quality work, who stands by his work, who has an excellent work ethic, and is a man of his word and operates with integrity and takes great pride in his work, and knows what he's doing - then Bob Guggliocceillo is the mason you should be using. I recommend Bob without any reservation and know that whomever uses Bob will be extremely satisfied with the results.
Description of Work: Two major jobs were performed at my home: 1) the house foundation, the front steps, the fireplace chimney and the front walk and entrance walk. Cultured stone was placed over the foundation and the chimney, and the front steps and sidewalk were replaced.; 2) my backyard was renovated with paver stones and a grill island was built and new steps were built for my backdoor entrance. These were both major projects that each required substantial commitment of resources and time.

The first time I received an estimate from Bob he quoted me two separate prices. The first one was for my driveway and the second was for my sidewalk. The driveway was for $6000.00 and the sidewalk was for $300.00. Then I decided to only do the sidewalk. When I called to let Bob know that I only wanted the sidewalk done, Bob changed the amount from $300.00 to $900.00. I don't understand why he wanted to charge me so much more, and it makes no sense to pay so much more. Bob tried to justify this price change by saying that he needed to bring in special equipment. During our first conversation Bob offered to deduct 10% off the price if I paid cash so I wouldn't pay taxes, which I think is very illegal.
Description of Work: He gave us two very different estimates.

Response from Gugliocciello Masonry LLC
The estimate that I provided to the homeowner at [member information removed], Manahawkin included a thorough and detailed breakdown of the services and fees that the homeowner requested. As is standard practice for masonry contractors when providing estimates, I will price different projects for a homeowner based on the volume of work being contracted. In this instance, the homeowner requested estimates on both a driveway and a sidewalk, with the driveway being the larger and more costly project. Taking that into account that if I am there doing the larger project, I will give a homeowner a discount on the minor project (in this case, the sidewalk) as it is cost-effective for both the homeowner and me if there is more than one project (for me since I already have the equipment and manpower on site, so I can take advantage of maximizing my resources while also providing some additional savings to the homeowner). In providing the estimate to this homeowner, my written document clearly states that the pricing for the sidewalk (the lesser of the two projects) is contingent on also getting the driveway (the major project) to do. If the homeowner only opted for the sidewalk and not the driveway, then (as my written estimate clearly states) then the pricing would increase for the sidewalk project in order to make my commitment of machinery and resources to be cost effective. Basically, if the homeowner opted only for the sidewalk, then the homeowner would lose the discounted pricing, since it was based on getting driveway project. The key factor here is the rental of the dumpster and the delivery fee of the concrete. Both these costs are significant for a single project; by having two projects at the same location, I can more readily absorb the cost because of the multiple projects. In simple terms, by having two projects at one site, I would only have to pay one dumpster fee and one delivery fee. However, if there is only one project, then I still have to pay the same dumpster fee and the same delivery fee, which impacts the cost effectiveness of the project. I made this very clear in my estimate by writing that the pricing for the sidewalk was based applicable only "IF DONE AT THE SAME TIME AS DRIVEWAY." With respect to the homeowner's allegation about paying cash in order to avoid taxes, let me be very clear about this: that conversation never happened and the homeowner is making a completely false statement. My written estimate is inclusive of the taxes for the work to be performed. I totally and unequivocally deny this accusation from the homeowner. In addition, I am in the process of seeking legal advice in order to take legal action against this homeowner for this vicious and unwarranted attack on my integrity and character. In closing, I have been a highly referred, well respected mason in Ocean and Monmouth counties for over twenty years, and have received hundreds of referrals from Angie's List members. I would hope that potential customers would take note of the positive reviews I have received on this website and disregard this unfair and totally untrue misrepresentation of my interaction with this homeowner. Thank you. Bob Gugliocciello.

Bob did a great job all around! He showed up for the estimate on time and emailed me the quote as promised. After accepting the quote he scheduled me into his calendar, and the date was set and he showed up and started as scheduled. The job took 3 days and he worked around the tenants with installing temporary wooden steps as he worked on replacing the 5 sets of brick steps. He did an exceptional job and the new limestone steps turned out great. I plan on using him to do future brick work at the apartments. I would highly recommend using Gugliocciello Masonry.

Bob and his assistant worked in very hot conditions for 3 days replacing a very bad leaking water problem because the cosmetic stone facing in the front of my house had deteriorated. The carpet in my living room was affected. I was given a quote before the job was started and, even though a lot more damage was found that was not expected, I was not charged any extra for a very well-done, professional job.

The top of my front porch was lifting and the corner foundation was cracked. I was worried it would fall and then create a problem with the roof. I contacted this vendor through email and he called me within five minutes of my email. He was at my home the next day, gave me an estimate and showed me pictures of his previous work. He not only completed the porch but also replaced my supporting poles and put stucco on my steps so it looked uniform. He completed the work on time (within three days) which was a good thing. Ten days after our meeting Hurricane Sandy blew through. I am so thankful that I found someone reliable and professional. I have been receiving nothing but compliments on my porch.

An excellent experience with these skilled masons. My fireplace is featured on their web site www.LGMasonry.net
Description of Work: My brick-front fireplace was replaced with granite pieces. The workmanship was excellent, and the two masons (the Gugliocciello brothers) were courteous, professional, and very skilled in their work. They chose among the granite pieces to fashion a beautiful design on the fireplace. I highly recommend them. They are not the cheapest, but their work is excellent.
