We went with another HVAC company.
Description of Work: Nothing done. First said we would not have to pay anything up front since we would be using energy program. On second visit they asked for the full amount up front and said they would not cash the check.

Response from B C EXPRESS INC HEATING & AC
BC Express performs work through the Home Performance with NJ Clean Energy Program. This program allows us to offer 0% financing for a term of 10 years through NJNG. Since NJNG is not a financial institution, they can only pay the loan proceeds directly to the customer signing for the loan. Before the loan is released, the customer must sign a document stating that the work was completed. The customer will then receive a check payable to them that they deposit into their own account. We ask the customer for a hold check for the amount of the loan at the time of the contract signing. Their check is placed in our vault and held until they notify us that the funds from the loan check are available. The hold check is necessary because we will have paid for the equipment and labor for their job with no guarantee of payment. This customer's mother had also signed a contract with us, but was looking at using a different financing program (EFS) that does not require a hold check because the loan proceeds are submitted directly to the contractor on completion. We also now offer an option of the customer paying us 1/3 at the contract signing, 1/3 at the start of the job and 1/3 at the completion of the job. If this option is selected, no hold check would be required and the customer would keep the loan proceeds, since we would have already been paid by the customer. We have successfully completed more than 1,000 jobs through the program since 2010.
