The owner of the subject company, Chris Hunger, arrived at my home on Friday, August 15th, at 7am. In twenty minutes he left stating he would be back that afternoon and that his crew was on its way. I signed a proposal with Mr. Hunger on June 29th and gave him a deposit of $4,000. At no time in these six weeks did he ever say he personally would not be putting on my roof. Instead of returning as promised, his crew arrived in a truck that was labeled "American Roofing". The owner did not specify that his crew did not work for him. He did not call, nor did he show up on Saturday or Sunday. Mr. Hunger finally came by Monday morning and he didn't even go up on the roof to see what his crew had done. He just wanted the balance of his money. When I asked him for a building permit, he said he didn't have one and stormed across the lawn yelling. He came by the next day with a permit dated August 19th, four days after the work had been completed. Then, on Labor Day weekend, there was a severe storm and the roof leaked. I called him and he didn't return my calls for two days. He finally came by to evaluate the problem. His way of finding the leak was to use my garden hose to mirror the effects of a severe rainstorm. At that point I contacted Angie to get the names of people that I could trust. Angie's List gave me three professional, competent, and trustworthy contractors. The contractors found that the flashing was incorrectly installed, thus the reason for the leak. While they were up there they found additional issues. The weather watch and drip cap were installed backwards on 10 % of the roof. 90% of the roof didn't have a drip cap at all. Every one of the companies that Angie's List recommended would not have allowed their workers up on that day, as it was too hot to shingle. It was determined by these companies that my shingles were severely scarred by the extreme heat of the day. I have since contacted Mr. Hunger three times with detailed messages infoming him of my findings and to seek resolution and to date all calls have been ignored.

Response from CHRIS HUNGER REMODELING
While it is my intention to abide by the rules concerning complaint resolution, I first request that Angie’s List not honor [member name removed] “complaint” because it appears to have been made in bad faith. Specifically, [member name removed] has admitted to be unable to pay the remaining balance and she has repeatedly and very openly expressed racial animus toward the workers that properly installed her roof. Further, as seen in her “complaint” [member name removed] has no other intention to resolve the matter than to be relieved from having to pay her outstanding balance of $1,875. I am the sole proprietor of Chris Hunger Remodeling, in business for over 15 years. I am a NJ licensed contractor and carry all required commercial coverages. I am an honest, trustworthy and professional small business owner. [member name removed] entered into a signed contract with my company for installation of a shingle roof on her residence. At no time did I state to [member name removed] that I personally would perform all required labor for said installation. Rather, as stated on the enclosed proposal signed by both [member name removed] and myself, I stated that all work would be “completed in a workmanlike manner according to standard practices.” Those promises and obligations were fulfilled. It is impossible for any one individual to perform all aspects of the required labor for this job; but rather, the presence of an entire work crew is required. Work began on Friday 8/15/14. I was personally present on the property at the start of the job, during the initial set up, and upon arrival of my labor crew. Additionally, my representative, Chuck Collier, was present on [member name removed] property at all times that work was performed. The job was completed on Saturday, 8/16/14. All required building permits were obtained and are currently on file at the Laurel Springs Construction Office. All work was performed properly and in accordance with applicable codes. To substantiate my position and as clear and convincing evidence of same, I enclose an independent inspection report from [name removed], Territory Manager of GAF. I find it important to add that upon arrival of the first laborer on the job, [member name removed] complained verbally and vehemently expressing her extreme displeasure over the race and ethnicity of the “Un-American” laborers present. Her direct comment made to Mr. Collier was, “I could have had a contractor a few blocks from here complete the work using white people.” On 8/15/14, [member name removed] own daughter made it a point to speak directly to Mr. Collier and apologize for her mother’s comments. [member name removed] comments were inappropriate, reprehensible and unacceptable. I have attempted to address [member name removed] concerns personally and professionally by returning to her residence on three occasions after the completion of the roof installation to no avail. Those concerns have ranged from debris found on her lawn (over which an industrial magnet was run to insure that no metal objects were left behind), to water pooling on her porch after a substantial rainfall (after which [member name removed] herself admitted to having left the upper porch valise windows open during said storm); and an inability to pay the balance owed (due to insufficient funds in her bank account). By her own admission and as evidenced in multiple saved voice mail messages left on my cell phone, [member name removed] confirms that at her invitation she has had multiple contractors and/or crews present on her roof since the job completion to offer their impression of the work performed. It is impossible to determine the current condition of her roof and whether there has been any damage subsequently caused by the multiple individuals invited onto the roof. In fact, [member name removed] has failed to produce even one single written report to support her false allegations with regard to the quality of the work performed. In response to [member name removed] allegation that it was too hot to shingle on the day the work was performed, I also enclose a GAF Technical Point Bulleting stating that while there is no upper or lower temperature governing when shingles may be applied, the shingle manufacturing company recommends temperatures should be below 90 degrees F for optimum results. I enclose the National Weather Data for 8/15/14 (high temperature 75 degrees) and 8/16/14 (high temperature 79 degrees), both days optimum weather for said shingle installation.
