Mr. Handyman of S. Orange/Westfield/Scotch Plains & Metuchen

We called the main office and talked with them about bringing the price down. I had to tell them that I would be writing a review on Angie's List to get it down to $500.

I had a list of repairs and updates to be done. Specifically, I had my bathroom vanity, sink and faucet installed, my medicine cabinet replaced and a new light fixture installed. I had my kitchen faucet replaced and a drawer fixed. I had 7 doors replaced in my basement and had all doors primed and painted as well as part of the basement floor painted. This was all done during several snow storms. One of the days Dean was supposed to work, the weather was too bad and the company met my schedule to complete the work and arranged for Dean to return on a day that was convenient for me. Dean performed all the work and was great to work with. I explained just what I needed and wanted and he did it. He had a great attitude and was very accommodating. The quality was top notch and all services were completed with efficiency. I had most of the materials beforehand. Dean met me at Home Depot to pick up the doors and vanity and a few small items. I arrived at the agreed upon time and Dean had already shopped for most of the materials. Ann came after Dean finished to paint the doors and floor. Ann was also wonderful to work with, was willing to empty my closets and worked in a very neat and clean manner. Both Dean and Ann had high energy and a great work ethic. What I can say about the company is that from the time I called to schedule the work, I received excellent customer service. There were follow up phone calls, confirmations of appointments and great communication. Dean and Ann were on time every day. Overall, I was very pleased with the whole process and the results.

I had a long list of items that needed to be attended to; many of them were somewhat minor but all of them were bothersome to me so when they were fixed it was very satisfying. All very well done. These are the only people I would use for this type of service.

The service provided from Mr. Handyman was wonderful from the first phone call all the way through the completion of the job. They are so incredibly accommodating (even stopping by prior to the work day to make sure the new garbage disposal I purchased would fit and that they would have all the parts necessary to complete the job when they came back)! They were prompt, courteous, and professional. They did great work & cleaned up after themselves - absolutely no issues. I have already scheduled an appointment for a few more projects around the house. Highly recommend!

It went very well Was on time every morning until job was complete..

Only complaint I had was that the door has a gap at the bottom letting in air; they should have suggested a covering that I later purchased at Home Depot and haven't had time/resources to install. When they saw this, they came and installed the covering for free. So they are reliable in maintaining their workmanship and reputation.

The end to end service went very well. They were very responsive to my request online and when the technician arrived he was very detailed in the steps that needed to be performed. He first checked the damaged area, then he checked other areas around the bathroom just to confirm that there was no other signs of moisture build up anywhere else. He then performed the repairs in a couple of hrs and cleaned up his area completely. I would use them again. Thank You Mr. Handyman

I requested a quote for several tasks that needed to be completed. I also stated I received the name from Angie's List and had a coupon. She stated the hourly rate was $150.00. I again stated I needed a quote for the work to see what would fit into my budget. She stated they would come in relay the linoleum tile and while there would check out the window repair and the bathroom ceiling. I again stated a needed a quote to stay within my budget. She said she would send me an email for a day's labor which would total aprox. $800. but they really don't like doing that. I again stated I needed a quote and if she couldn't help me with that I would need to find someone else. She said they don't really give quotes. I don't know about anyone else, but I like to know how much something is going to cost me before I agree to purchase. After reading the reviews, I was disappointed.

I had several small jobs I needed done and all were completed to my satisfaction. I plan on calling them back in the near future for other jobs I need completed.

Very nice people to deal with - both Anne in the office and Dennis who did the work. While the pricing structure puts the cost on the high side for the service provided, it is very difficult to get anyone to come out for small jobs such as this (in this instance an electrician). Anne was kind enough to apply the Angie's List coupon the day after the work was done because I forgot to give it to repairman. I would definitely use this company again now knowing when this would be the best option for the work involved.

Called initially to check that they were able to handle the type of job we assumed was required. The gentleman that answered my call, Bruce, was extremely polite, friendly and informative. He additionally provided me with approx $150.00 worth of troubleshooting tips. We called him back to retain. He came out exactly when he was expected, reviewed the work and advised that this was within their expertise. No charge for that visit. We set up a Saturday morning appt. The tech was not only on time, but was actually early, although he did not go to the door until the appointed time so as not to disturb us. He was very proficient and neat. He had the replacement parts we needed on the van. The job which entailed opening up a small access in the drywall and replacing the shower diverter, then resealing the opening with drywall & tile took approx 5 hours from start to finish. As the diverter cost about $200.00, I did not consider the price for this job to be excessive. They actually give you an estimate form that clearly calls out the cost per hour for their work. All in all a delightful experience. As they handle numerous types of issues, I intend to try them for other repairs and would strongly recommend their services.

Mr. Handyman saved our Thanksgiving! We had a plumbing emergency that exposed our bathroom pipes directly above the dining room table. I put in a request and received a response in less than 12 hours. When no one else wanted to come out to do the repair the day before the holiday, they came through. Punctual, very professional, great workmanship and reasonable price. I will use Mr. Handyman again!

They answered the first ring. They provided our "Handyman" - Dennis, within hours the same day. He arrived and with no fuss began working immediately, opening up the hole, trying to get to the source of the problem, etc. Through it all he was respectful, informative, and utterly focused on the job with no distractions. I actually got the overall impression that he was operating exactly as he would if it were his own house, and he obviously brought years of experience to the fold, which was evident in his many comments about what he was doing and why. He came back yesterday and worked hard all day, clearing out gutters, repairing roof damage, and closing up the hole. They charge by the hour (which seems like a reasonable approach), and the thing that struck me the most was that because of his varied knowledge, he didn't appear the least bit prejudiced towards one cause of a problem or solution - he could look at our house in it's entirety and really get to the problem, whatever it might be (as opposed to a "gutter" or "roof" person who might only know issues concerning the outside of one's house, etc.)…This holistic approach was most welcome, since some problems aren't as "cut and dry" and obvious. We will most definitely be calling them again.

The three staff members I have had interactions with have all been professional, attentive, considerate, and caring. The long story made short is my niece fell ill and I helped my Family. I've had to put off routine maintenance - in addition to other projects that would make everyday life run smoother. They helped me prioritize what needed to be done - and accomplish these things in a timely, financially prudent, and respectful manner. I look forward to continue working with this Mr. Handyman Franchise. I now understand firsthand why they have received the positive reviews and accolades they have to date. Don't take my word for it - try them for yourself! ($1,800.00 is the approximate cost of services rendered to date. We are collectively scheduling projects as I have time and income to cover the cost of labor and materials. In the long run this is far cheaper than costly repairs and/or replacement of things, in the future. Thank You!)

Greg was punctual, professional, and extremely helpful. He completed all the work quickly, cleaned up after each project, and took the time to explain all the details. He was absolutely excellent and I look forward to working with Mr. Handymen again.

The door was very old and not very wide, it also didn't close right. When ever i had to bring something in I had to remove the door from the hinges. this time I also had to remove the jam. Mr. handyman told me to pick out a door I liked and e-mail a picture and they would try to match it.\, they did that very well, the gain pattern was outstanding. Not only did Robert do an excellant job he made the entrance wider. And he did it all in a few hours, took away the old material and even cleaned up an A+ job.

Great Job! No problems! Pointed out damage to other area that we had not observed! Recommend them! have asked for Handyman t come back!

Inside carpentry, plumbing, outside carpentry

I have an extremely busy work schedule and had moved in recently. He was polite, let me know what my options were, and was very patient. Also I had just had an install of fabric panels /blinds that same day from another co and did not realize the huge gap between the floor and bottom of panels. He reinstalled to the perfect length! I will definitely use this co and Greg of course again. Couldn't be more pleased.

On Oct. 9, 2013, Dean came to my house, he removed a small piece of siding to use to locate size and color of the siding. He came back on Oct. 12 and removed damaged siding and replaced it with new aluminum white siding. Also, the white siding was a little bigger but Dean assured me that he would fit it in and you wouldn't notice. When he finished, I was amazed the siding looked beautiful. He came back on Oct. 17 to pressure wash the back of the house and painted the previously installed siding. He told me he would blend in the paint. He also fixed separate marks on the back of the house. My husband and I was so surprised that the back of the house came out so good. It looks like there never was an awning on the back of the house. You cannot tell what part of the siding was repaired. It came out wonderful. Thank you Dean for a job perfectly done.

Excellent work. The work was performed largely by one person. The cost was a bit high, but they were able to start immediately. Dean had to removed (carefully) two shower walls of tile, and replace them. He also tiled the entire floor. This took approximately 4 1/2 days to complete, this include the install of the vanity, shower fixtures and toilet. The management at Mr, Handyman was fantastic, keeping me apprised as to start times and next availability. Great group to work with,

We just bought a new house and when our brand new dryer was delivered, we discovered that the previous owners had left us with an ancient three-inch exhaust vent in the wall, while modern dryers use a four-inch hose. After determining that if we used a reducer it would damage our machine, we called Mr. Handyman to widen the vent hole for us and they were able to take care of the issue that very day. The work was excellent and we would gladly use their services again.

I called 2 other handymen who never returned my call. I read of another person with the same problem who had success with this business and gave them a go. They actually answered the phone and took on the job. The rates were clear. The job was not as easy as it sounds. Finding the studs through the walls was difficult since our shower is lined with some sort of corian material (was there when we bought the house). But Dennis was super careful and checked his calculations of where the studs were and hit it perfectly. He took his time to get it right and not cause me any further work with repairing walls, and I definitely appreciate that! The work was done cleanly and professionally. I HIGHLY recommend!!

I was looking for replacing floor & wall tiles inside the bathroom. Wallpaper had to be removed so as to put 4 ft of tiles outside the standing shower with paint on the top. In addition, I also wanted to replace 6 tiles in Kitchen, 6 tiles in foyer and also re-attach limestone as a step to my porch. There was a attic vent that had to be replaced. I was ripped off by one of the contractor who took my deposit and never returned to do the job, I joined Angies list and contacted few contractors on urgent basis for tile work on standing shower & paint work. Bruce from Mr. Handyman was responsive to my request for estimate on Saturday. This company charges $60 for someone from their company to come down and provide estimates. Bruce provided estimate on Monday. However, their estimate was MORE THAN 2 TIMES the estimates from other category "A" contractors on Angies list and hence, I decided not to go with them.

Punctual and very reliable.Did the job 2 days ahead of the scheduled appointment.Was informed that they have available tchnician and if I am available will do the job ahead of the scheduled date and which I agreed. The job was well done ,nice, neat. quality of work is great. Well use them again. Highly recommended.The only cons I can see right now is the price.They have set prices for residential customer.First hour set price and then every hour thereafter pro rated to every 15 minutesr.If they encounter a problem even with small job you will end up paying more. For me I am very satisfied overall
