Mr. Handyman of S. Orange/Westfield/Scotch Plains & Metuchen

The tech was knowledgeable and very accommodating to what we needed done. The tech was able paint our front door, as well as a 1 car garage; he replaced some rooted wood within the garage, fixed a step on a concrete stairs, and fixed a vent for a space heater. He even went to the hardware store, and was able to do things we weren't even thinking about before talking to him. It took him about 8 hours, but I think it was well worth it with everything he was able to accomplish.

I described the problem with the dishwasher - could be electrical, could be plumbing, could be both or neither, plus a little carpentry once the dishwasher was working - and they sent Greg, someone who can "think outside the box" which is clearly what was needed in this case. The dishwasher is working, I also have a new ceiling fan, replaced an aged-out smoke alarm, installed a new dishwasher, and got a new light fixture over the kitchen sink. All in a day's work.

They quoted about $5000 for the job. They did come out with a decent price for the job. I contacted a few others that were higher and at least one was lower, but I felt the most comfortable with this company. The price was just right.

Scheduling my appointment was extremely easy and the person taking the call was very friendly. I scheduled an appointment two weeks out to have a Solar Powered Attic Fan installed on my roof. What impressed me the most about this company is that they called me two days before my scheduled appointment stating they had a last minute opening and asked if I was available to have the job done. I wish more companies did this. I happened to be off this day but had just committed to something else. Too bad but it made me feel even better about choosing Mr. Handyman. The handyman arrived early on my scheduled day and took a look at the roof and said "I can't go up there today" "I didn't bring enough equipment to go up on such a steep roof". I told him I booked the service to install a roof mounted attic fan and asked what he thought he was coming to do. Either way, he called his office stating that he would get me a new appointment soon so he could come back and do the job. He came back and stated the office told him the soonest someone could come back was another two weeks later. I hired another company for this job a few days later, but would still hire Mr. Handyman for a future project. It difficult to weigh the frustration of taking a day off to have a job done against the contractor feeling safe doing the job. Safety is obviously paramount. Being booked two weeks out is a good problem to have for the business and I am sure this reflects the quality of their work when it is performed.

We had a list of repairs needing to be done, and were very pleased with the craftsmanship achieved by Robert, the technician assigned to our projects. This description applies to the first visit to our house, but in subsequent sessions there was a variety of additional work: Patching of the kitchen ceiling (earlier opened up in the process of pipe repairs), drywall and spackling of a hole in the wall, reconstruction of some wood panels in a garage door, bathtub caulking, removal of two (small) trees, securing of pieces of siding, cleaning of gutters, and fixing of electric switch in a wall. He has always been right on time, and offers helpful suggestions based on his observations, in a courteous manner. The time estimates are generally accurate. The pricing is in line with going rates, and we will be using this company for future work, taking into consideration affordability.

Fantastic! The technicians were professional, polite, and explained the process clearly. Bruce and Ann were exceedingly helpful in following up about my options for doors. Unfortunately, two of our doors require a special, customized door, so we ultimately had to go with a contractor, but that is _not_ an indication of Mr Handyman's quality. If anything, their promptness and clarity were instrumental in helping us understand what we had to do with the doors. We would work with them again in a snap!

Robert, the technician for Mr. Handyman, was on time and completed the ceiling work efficiently and in a professional manner.

After I called,a representative from Mr Handyman, Bruce, came to my house to see the work I needed to have done. He took pictures and measurements as needed so he could purchase the correct material. The first day, Bruce, and another employee, Joe, showed up exactly on time. Joe was to do most of the work with assistance from Bruce when 2 people were needed for the job. Whenever they came in my house they put on these red booties so as not to track in any dirt etc. I was very impressed with this. My front columns were all chewed up and parts of wood were missing at the bottom. Joe removed the columns and built new ones. I couldn't believe the columns he built, they were beautiful. Joe did a fabulous job on all the projects he worked on which are described above. During the next rainstorms I did not have any water leak through the window that he caulked. I can now fully open & close the kitchen drawers that he fixed. Joe did a great job in selecting and installing the handicap rails. He was extremely professional, efficient and his work was meticulous. I know that I will use Joe again and recommend him to my friends.

The entire experience was positive. There was great responsiveness when making the initial inquiry and coordinating an appointment, we received a confirmation call the day before, the technician arrived exactly on time, and the dedication to doing a good job and the quality of the work performed were outstanding. The product we chose made for a labor-intensive installation, so the cost of service was in line and reasonable. Mr. Handyman was a refreshing change from the other contractors we reached out to for this project. One well-known company that runs TV commercials all the time quoted an outrageous price (an estimate which took weeks to get and required multiple follow up phone calls). Two other contractors who came by to do estimates never did send estimates or respond to follow up phone calls. It was a pleasure doing business with the professionals at Mr. Handyman and we will use their services again.

The problem with the old soffits was that they were nesting carpenter bees. Robert, the carpenter that was sent to do the job, carefully removed the old soffits and replaced them with new ones. At my request, the new soffits were backed by screen hardware to prevent the bees from drilling again. The job was completed in two visits. This contractor works on an hourly basis. So be sure of how long you think a job will take to complete. I miscalculated and thought it would take a few hours, but it would up needing more time. The man had to leave the job and come back when his company's schedule allowed. This was of a concern to me since I wasn't sure how long that time span would be and I had a "half-baked" job. Fortunately, Dave was able to squeeze me in on the following Monday and the job was completed. I had two problems: 1) Getting the discounts offered. I had to ask for it after I got that information from Angie's List representatives. I was a little disappointed that the contractor was not more forward in advising me the discount was available for Angie's List members. 2) I was taken aback when I was told Robert would not be back to finish the job until he had finished other jobs on the job list. If Dave had not been able to work the schedule for him to come back that would have been a problem for me. These two "problems" were why I chose the 'B' ratings above. Despite the above I have to say that Robert, the carpenter, was very congenial and did an excellent job.

Robert the tech worked efficiently, quickly and the job was clean. He knew exactly what to do and the pocket door works better now than it did before.

The technician, Robert, showed up exactly on time and was prepared to work. He was very professional reviewed what had to be done. He made some very good suggestions, but was very open to our ideas as well. We agreed on what was going to be done for the day and he started the work. As the day progressed we found some other items and got those done along the way. The window well covers were a challenge needing to be custom built to finish off some major construction we had done. Robert came up with a really nice design, got us some really durable materials and built the enclosures. They look like they are part of the house and will last a very long time. I don't think we will ever have to worry about them again. Great job Robert! Would definitely use our local Mr. Handyman again, this was the first time we had them do work for us. We already arranged to have Robert come back for another day to do some more work.

I was told that Robert would arrive at 8AM, you can set your watch to this guy. 7:55AM he was in front of my house, 8:00AM he was set up an working. I have a screened in porch that needed the screens replaced and in a 87 year old house it could be a delicate job. Robert removed and replaced the screens without issue, clean and done. In a day where contractors unfortunatley do not always do what they say they will Mr. Handyman does! I will be calling Mr. Handyman again for future needs and already reccomended my neighbor to them.

Dean is very skillful and experienced. His carpenter work is beautifully done and give us very good suggestions when installing the range hood. I trust his expertise and am very satisfied with the quality of the work done.

We contacted Mr. Handyman originally while we were looking for someone to install a couple of screen/storm doors. They did not send anyone out and asked us to send pictures and gave us a price for labor only. We would need to go choose/buy the door elsewhere. We opted to use another contractor, but contacted them 2-3 weeks later to get an estimate on cleaning and re-sealing our deck. At first we were asked to take pictures and measurements. When pressed they sent someone (only because they would be in the area) to take a look. He arrived about 3 hours later than we expected. Was very pleasant and gave us a verbal recommendation of what was needed and left us saying that Anne (the person we had been talking with) would get back to us the next day with a quote. We have yet to hear back. We will not be contacting them again.

He did a very good job and cleaned up after himself and we have no complaints.

Couldn't be happier with installation of the front door. Carpenter was extremely detail oriented and took the time make sure every facet of the job was complete and with quality. Not only is the gap perfectly equal all around the door, all the caulking was very neatly done and they left the job site cleaner than when they arrived. Was nice to see they we very punctual arriving exactly on time on the date scheduled. Highly recommend and will be using them in the near future.

Due to the extreme winter, my facia boards came loose and my gutters were dangling. Dean took down my gutters and rebuilt my facia boards. He installed new shingles in the front of my house and rehung the gutters front and back. He did a wonderful job and it looks like new. Dean is a real perfectionist and I couldn't be any happier with the outcome. I also met the owner Bruce and they are really nice people. I'll be using Mr. Handyman again very shortly to powerwash my house. I would highly recommend Mr. Handyman to anybody needing their services. They were on time, cleaned up and were very professional!

I found him on Angie’s List. They did a very good job and were very professional. I paid $400 as they had to get some parts to it. I thought the price was reasonable. I thought he was very responsive; he came immediately to help our issue. They were very punctual; they came exactly when they said they would.

They are pretty quick to turn around, so basically come and give you an estimate and stay and done. They are very fast and efficient. They are very knowledgeable, they don’t cut corners; they tell you everything so there are no surprises.

I had several jobs I needed done and all were completed to my satisfaction. somewhat expensive but they did a good job.

From the moment I arranged a meeting with Bruce to go over the project, the work and his responsiveness has been absolutely perfect over the week it took to complete the project. The work was mostly done by Robert who was a pleasure to deal with. I wanted the demolition of the basement to be done right with the hope of fully waterproofing and refinishing it in the future, and that was what was delivered. I could have gone with less expensive outfits, but was willing to pay a bit more to ensure that the work was professionally done. I highly recommend their services. In fact, if competitively priced, I fully expect to have Bruce take on several other jobs on my house in the near future.

Service Contract Dennis arrived on time, carefully listen and review the repair needed and went right to work replacing a drywall section and placing a back panel to a kitchen cabinet. The work was neat, clean and efficient. Dennis was cooperative and attentive to our needs. Dennis was a gentleman and very professional. Mr. Handyman representatives, Amme and David were responsive and clear in restating my work order. My call was placed on a Wednesday and a service technician was dispatched the next day. I was not placed on hold or made to wait days or weeks for service. Fees were clear and in writing. Overall, this was a very good experience.
