Everything went well. Job finished, repair hard to see, which is great.

It went very badly. I made a appointment and expected an estimate. The worker came out on Sept 14th, and he started working right away. Half way thru, he said they charged by the hour, and it would be $1170.00. This seemed outrageously high, considering the work being done. The door was not sanded, just scraped. This resulted in a ugly outcome. The french windows on top were smeared with paint. The step was not done properly either. I called and complained and a supervisor came out to check the job. He would do nothing about the poor painting job, so I had to call another painter to redo the door. The top step was also done haphazardly, with no wooden landing top on the step, leaving a one inch gap between the door and the floor. This would let a lot of cold air to enter. Once again, I had to have someone else come in and finish the job. The supervisor did give me a ten percent discount for my troubles. This still made it a very expensive cost and I got nothing in return. Marguerite Chase

We are very unhappy with the price charged for this simple service and unfortunately will not be using Mr. Handyman of South Orange for any future jobs. We have used this company before for several projects, including garage door opener, hanging a cabinet, and hanging another ceiling fan in another bedroom. We were considering them for other small renovation items in our bathrooms but do not want to be charged a fortune for those jobs. This simple project that should have taken a professional no more than an hour was extended to 2 hours at a rate that we feel is totally unreasonable. After calling the company to get more information and voice our concerns, we were offered a $54 credit on the next service which would still make this simple job cost over $225 - to hang a ceiling fan with existing wiring. That's nonsense... and is still unacceptable. The reasoning provided by the company for the 2 hours it took was that the assembly of the base appeared incorrect, but there really isn't much in the way of parts to the base... Therefore, we do not accept this explanation. We feel that a fair price for this type of simple job would be no more than $175 - TOPS. Therefore, we will not be using this company or recommending them to any of our friends and neighbors. It should be noted that the individuals at the company are professional, responsive, and courteous - it's just that their pricing is totally unreasonable and out of whack. It's too bad really because it's hard to find a good handyman.

Work was completed in a timely professional manner. Bruce's team was very clean and friendly. Quality of work was excellent and the price was right. We will use them again.

They arrived two hours late. They charged hidden cost for shopping of $200.00. Making the final cost $500.00. The original estimate was $200.00-300.00 for 1-1/2 hours. This was in line with other plumbers estimates. I had to have a bitter renegotiation for the cost which resulted in them threatening to sue me if I reported the dispute to Angie's list and agreeing to never contact them again.

Came to the job unprepared with the wrong materials had to go back to Home Depot to pick up the doors sweep. He replaced the door sweep but I still have a slight opening at the bottom of the door. The opening was fix by adding any extra piece of weatherstripping at the bottom of the door.

Tech who showed up was good. Original tech never showed. When I called they were able to get someone else to come but about 4 hours later than original time. A bit expensive. He did do a good job.

Robert knew exactly what to do and performed the task as a total professional. I would hire him for any other jobs I might have.

The job went excellently. Scheduling was easily done by phone; had to wait about 1.5 weeks to find an open appointment slot, but the handyman (John) arrived precisely on time at the beginning of the estimated time range. John was professional and friendly throughout his time in my home, discussed all of the work upfront, including which jobs he believed were worth hiring a handyman to fix and which would be sufficiently time-consuming that it would probably be more cost-effective to just replace what was broken (blinds). He quickly and successfully fixed most of the issues we agreed for him to work on (drywall repair, weeds under closed deck, unsticking a window), then continued trying to fix a broken window lock for which I did not have a replacement on hand even after it was evident it was not fixable without a new lock. Mr. Handyman charges a flat rate for the first hour, then charges partial hours at a lower rate every 15 minutes; since I'd be charged the full one hour regardless of how much time it took, John continued seeing what could be done until the hour was up even though it seemed unlikely to get results, but since it was worth trying anyway since I was already paying for the time. Overall, I was extremely pleased with John's work, professionalism, and honesty, and Mr. Handyman of S. Orange, Westfield, and Scotch Plains will be at the top of my list for any future handyman services I may need.

Great - they arrived on time, did exactly what they promised, came up with creative solutions, and cleaned up beautifully. Prices were fair and clear based on materials and labor.

They're very reasonable. They always send professional people regardless of what the job is. You provide the materials and they'll put it up, or install it. The first time we used them, the price was very good. This last time, however, we were charged for each door that needed to be installed and it became very expensive.

It was a very professional atmosphere from beginning to end. The handyman worked for 1 hour and 45 minutes on one project and 15 minutes on the last project and he did a great job. He was very informative from explaining everything he did.

Work was done okay. Way too expensive!!!

He arrived promptly @ 8:30 am. I needed the gutters repaired & cleaned. He assessed the job & went to work immediately. He worked very neatly & quickly. He noticed the weather vane on my garage roof had fallen off & asked if I would like it repaired. Yes, it cost a little extra, because you pay by the hour, but, it is finally staying in place.

it went great. the workers were extremely professional and stayed at the task until it was performed correctly. I thought it was a bit pricey, but I guess you do pay for what you get. And I received work that i did not have to worry about having re-done once they were gone.

Technician performed. 3.5 hour job in 7.5 hours. In 4 hours the technician removed the microwave and moved the electric box 5 inches away. No holes were made, none of the parts were touched and the exhaust fan box was sealed in the box at this moment. The real work started after 4 hours which showed that technician was well aware of how many hours it would actually take.

The service was great, but me and my family did feel one problem. They came and gave us a quote. They basically charge per hour. The job was quoted anywhere from 6-8 hours. We believe that the technician who came over, took extra time for no reason. Basically, he was trying to have more hours. He was just standing around. Basically, he came at 8 am, and by 12 pm, he did only two things. In four hours, he basically removed the microwave we had over the range, and moved the box where you put the plug in. That's all he did in four hours. That's when he started doing stuff at a normal speed. For four hours, he was basically standing around, and goofing around. He was in the attic, he was outside, and he was in the kitchen. At 12:00 pm is when he started doing stuff; he started making two holes, and ran the duct through the kitchen through the attic. I was told that he had done this several times. As a professional, I believe that it should not have taken him more than four hours to install the range hood, but he took eight hours, which is exactly what they quoted me. He absolutely killed time until 12:30, and then took a break for a half an hour, which of course didn't count. My mom and my wife even noticed, and they had no clue that they were charging per hour. They thought it was just a job at a fixed price. I was going in and out, and I was noticing that none of the stuff that I bought, which was suppose to be installed, was even touched for the first four hours. I went to the kitchen and even asked him what was done, and he basically just moved a plug and a microwave. Removing a microwave takes a maximum of 15 minutes; removing screws and unplugging it. Moving a box takes another 10 minutes. That was the only thing. The service was great. The installation was great. They charged me $1000 to install a range hood because of the hours. I spoke to the owner, Bruce as well. I did not take any action and the reason being that I made good speaking relations with Bruce. Again, I used my credit card, I could've disputed the four hours, but I just didn't want it to ruin that relation we had, so I didn't do anything. I looked at the work and it should've not been more than four hours; maybe three. The service was great, but to be blunt, they did rip me off. I would probably shop around, and consider them again, after having a clear conversation with the owner Bruce. I did refer them and told my friends to be very clear about the hours.

We've used Mr. Handyman many times and have been very satisfied. This time was no exception. Several miscellaneous project. The handyman showed up on time, worked diligently, and checked everything off the list.
