I had extremely bad experience having business with Alpine Heating and Cooling. I had issues with HVAC and I called this company. Mechanic arrived in time. I already knew, that system loss all refrigerant. I was expecting estimate for repair to make a decision. Mechanic did not bring any equipment, did not put much effort in troubleshooting, but from the beginning tell me he need to put some special gas in the system to check for leak. He was ready to start to do it, when I carefully asked, what is price for this test and what repair will cost. I got back: $275 for test and there is not any warranty that test give any result, but on positive side, he said, this cost will be included in coil replacement…. !!!?? WOW. It is Interesting information. On my question about total repair cost (at least approximate) he was not able to provide any information. When I asked, that maybe it will be cheaper to replace complete system, he said sure, packed his paper (there is no equipment if you remember) and tell that his boss will call me with estimate……??? (estimate for complicated system by phone?) He did not ask for email. He did not check home dimensions to estimate system capacity. He did not check duct system. He just left. I never received any calls from this company anymore (except one call from mechanic before his arrival), but week later I got invoice for $101.65. I called them and asked what for they are charging me? I tell that nobody notified me I will be charged for repair job estimates. Mechanic did not provide any service, and nobody signed any contract with me about anything. I got back extremely rude response “…only maroon could not understand that all services should be paid, the person should be complete idiot if he doesn’t know that in America nothing for free ….. Maybe in other countries than America it is free, but any American knows that services are not free and this is common sense…..” It was really disturbing experience. First time I am getting remarks like this in my address. Considering that I have heavy accent, I personally consider this as a racist’s attack. BAD BAD BAD

Response from Alpine Heating and Cooling
It is our understanding that you called for service, not an estimate for service. We followed exact protocol for a leak check. "Special gas" is nitrogen which is required to test for leaks. Also, this process takes several hours and $275 is a standard charge. All of our trucks are fully stocked with equipment and our service technicians are all experienced and educated. They are technicians, not salesmen. We do not try to sell customers equipment they don't need, especially when we can test to see if it is repairable. We also are proud to offer a credit for repair against a new part or installation. You were told ahead of time there would be a charge for the service call and agreed to pay it; it is a diagnostic or repair fee. Our office tried to contact you on 4 occasions for a free estimate with no response. Our company is owned by and employs many minorities, and would never act in a racist manner.

He was very professional and very honest. He did what he said he was going to do. They started the work when they said they would. The men took away all of the old equipment with the furnace and installed the new one. I was quite satisfied. They left my place clean and took all of the debri with them. Shortly after they left, I noticed there was a little buit of water leaking. They came right back and made adjustments. Everything was fine and I was happy.

I'm very happy and they're extremely competent. They've installed all of my heating and cooling units over the years and they've done all the maintenance. I'm extremely satisfied with them.
Description of Work: I've used them for 25-30 years for heating and cooling needs. A guy was here the other day for an interim inspection. The inspections in the summer and winter are covered in this cost. If repairs are needed, it costs extra.

Everything we discussed in the initial proposal was taken care of. No additional charges whatsoever. The proposal was also cheaper and included equipment that was needed which the proposal I got from PSE&G did not include. Not only did I feel Alpine's work was extremely professionally done but when the building inspectors came to check out the installation they also said the same thing and added a caveat that "Every installation they have done in the Township has been of that quality.

Nice, friendly, effective - happy to use them again.
Description of Work: Service man came (10 minutes early!). He confirmed my suspicions about a heating zone valve failure. I didn't fix it myself (the previous day) when I realized there some aspects of problem didn't make sense. He replaced my zone valve (with one I had picked up at). He managed to replace the valve parts without re-sweating the valve body. Then the system failed to fill up with water (we had drained it). He discussed it with another service guy who brought over a pressure reducing valve which when replaced finally allowed the system to to fill with water and work properly. $170 in labor for 2 hours work (plus $100 in parts), probably half of what many of other guys would have charged me.

I wanted a second opinion after I talked to another heating and cooling company. I paid about $100 for coming out and diagnosis. They didn’t think we had issues that the other guy said there were. Everything was working. The various things on the AC units were working within the specification.

They were very thorough in running checks on the system and very nice about explaining what was wrong (the heat sensor was basically very dirty). They fixed it and it worked like a charm all winter. The only thing I would caution against is that they're one of those companies that attempts to sell you a package. I, personally, don't like that. But they didn't push too hard and they were very nice and seemed to know what they were talking about when discussing the furnace with me.
Description of Work: Don't quote me on the price. I couldn't really remember how much and I couldn't find the receipt. It's a ballpark figure. I called them to come check out my furnace which was firing faultily.

Alpine showed up well within the time window they gave me. I was very appreciative that they found the problem and fixed it instead of telling me I had to spend zillions for a new unit like other said. I was also pleased they went a little further and corrected some basic issues that I didn't realize were problematic - like lifting the boards and replacing the filter. I will definitely use them again.
Description of Work: I was very pleased with the service. I have a condo and the AC condensation line was dripping down the side of my building. I have an old combination AC/Heating unit in the attic, and I was afraid that I would need to replace the whole thing. Alpine came and found a blockage in the line, replaced it, changed the filter, and also raised some boards in my attic so the line wasn't getting walked on anymore.

Experience was excellent. After being quoted exorbitant prices for inferior systems by 2 other companies, I tried Alpine via Home Depot. They came promptly, evaluated my home (the others didn't) and quoted me an excellent price on a High Energy Efficient unit that came with a Federal Tax Credit. The other companies wanted to charge me $2,000 more for an inferior unit that did not qualify for a tax credit and $4,000 more for a comparable unit. They showed up for work promptly, worked efficiently and were clean. I was very pleased with the whole process.

Everything went perfectly from start to finish. On my initial contact with Alpine, I spoke with one of the owners immediately. An appointment for an estimate was made. There was no high pressure sales pitch, just the facts and information we needed to decide what our best options would be. The day the equipment was to be installed, they arrived promptly and set to removing the old equipment. They had to return the following day to complete the installation (they said it would take two days originally). By noon time, all systems had been checked and were working perfectly. It was 90 degrees that day and the AC worked without a flaw. All work was done in a professional, neat and orderly fashion. We've been in the building trades for 23 years and have used Alpine in the past on other projects but never on our own home. They are always reliable, professional and proficient. Thank you, Alpine.

I was very impressed with the competence, professionalism and thoroughness of Brian the technician. Beyond his sheer ability to perform the work, I was pleasantly struck by his willingness to answer questions and inform me as a homeowner, and more than that, by his initiative to not just stop at fixing a broken valve but to work through all the steps necessary to ensure that heat was being delivered to where it was supposed to go. So it was his thoroughness that led him to detect and remove air pocket(s) from the water loop, and to check the arrangement of the baseboard housing in the rooms to be heated.
Description of Work: Alpine expertly diagnosed and fixed a malfunctioning baseboard hot-water loop. I called them in after a previous service provider had left my system in such disarray that wires were disconnected and hanging loose with no tags to indicate which wire had been connected where. The Alpine technician, Brian, was unfazed by this, and simply worked through the logic of the wiring and component parts (2 thermostats, a zone valve, a pump, a relay, the water loop and the boiler). Within two hours he had re-constructed the wiring, diagnosed the faulty part, went out to get a replacement part, and put everything back in functioning order. In addition, he purged air from the hot water loop, and advised me on the best way to adjust the baseboard housing in the rooms.
