The technician arrived per schedule and used testing equipment to identify the problem. Once identified the problem was corrected.
Description of Work: Furnace would not perform correctly. The technician pin-pointed the problem and repaired same quickly and efficiently as well as an unknown problem and showed me how to make that fix myself.

They gave me a quote over the phone. I live in a 55+ community so they knew what the job would be like. They said they could come that afternoon. It went very quickly. At first they had the wrong water heater but then they got the right one. He answered all my questions. I asked if they put a tray under it and he said I didn't need it. Other people now tell me I should have one. The new water heater has a six year warranty. The unit they brought in would not fit into the outlet pipe in the house. He said it didn't matter because it didn't produce any water. I put a glass under it just in case. They were pleasant, friendly and answered my questions.
Description of Work: My water heater was leaking and needed to be replaced. It had leaked in to the living room and the hallways.

see above. ALPINE followed through.
Description of Work: Description Of Work: I have to say that Alpine really did make up for the mishap of last month. The technicians came back twice to our house: once to repair an air handler under warranty and the second time to fix a problem on equipment that was already in existence and had nothing to do with their installation. This was a great gesture on their part and greatly appreciated. The work was done promptly by technicians who are knowledgeable willing to spend the time to inform the homeowner of what was done and answer questions. All in all Alpine proved to be trustworthy and reliable.

Alpine returned my call promptly, listened to what we needed, and emailed me an estimate. The guys came out to replace the unit within the week. They were prompt, courteous, and knowledgeable, and completed the job within 2 hours. The pricing was the lowest of the estimates we received by a significant amount. I would absolutely use Alpine again.
Description of Work: We needed to have our A/C unit replaced from Hurricane Sandy. They replaced and removed our old unit for disposal.

My husband and I are extremely happy with our experience with Alpine. With so many generators being installed after Hurricane Sandy, they were very honest with us when they found out that the generator we ordered was on backorder. They gave us 3 options: 1) To cancel the order because of the delay; 2) To chose a different generator than we had chosen; or 3) to leave the order as it was. We chose to leave it the way it was. When the generator did come in, Alpine immediately let us know and scheduled all of the appropriate appointments (gas, plumbing and electric) as well as took care of getting the permits required from our local township authority. Their people were extremely professional, polite and punctual!

They are prompt mechanics who are extremely clean, careful and very productive. They installed the units purchased in record time, cleaned up when done, tested the units and spent time explaining the operation of both units to us.
Description of Work: Alpine is a very professional and skilled organization. We have been a customer for 35 plus years and have always been satisfied with the quality of service. We have used Alpine every year for seasonal inspections of both our heating and central air conditioning systems for a cost of $299 for two visits, one in the fall and one in the spring. We have also had Alpine install a new air conditioning system on June 17, 1989 at a cost of $2,570 and a new heating system on December 3, 1990 at a cost of $1,940.

There were a few rough patches with the work from Alpine Heating and Cooling, but I was very pleased with the final outcome. The personnel were very helpful. They followed up on things. As a matter of fact, they were here again yesterday, because I noticed I had a red light on the generator. It turned out they hadn't turned it on to automatic on the generator, so if I had lost power, it wouldn't have gone on. It was simply switching the button. He went back over with me what was necessary. It's now on automatic, and hopefully, I will never need it. They're reliable, trustworthy and prompt. They did a good job.

Technical work and pricing went well. Communication with this company is OFF. Two weeks ago the system leaked and stopped functioning. That was on a Saturday evening. I called from my home phone. I called again on Sunday morning delaying a trip to wait for their response. Luckily at the last moment my husband was able to reset the system but the boiler continued to leak and rattle. The system had to be checked. No call from Alpine. I called again on Monday morning - two days later. I am then told that the technician is on his way. And again I don't hear anything from them. Did they troubleshoot, did they see anything? To ease communication and i need of an explanation I write an e-mail to Art. He then CLAIMS that my house phone does not work (there was no message or missed calls from Alpine albeitt for Monday morning Art's message). He also CLAIMS that the door to the basement where the boiler is located was locked. Both untrue statements: Art like to blame his customer - not his workers - when things go wrong. This is all aggravating. At this date Art has not tried to reach me to solve the issue or at least show that he cares to have satisfied customers. The truth is that he does not need to: I already spent the money and signed the maintenance contract. I expect for a company who is in the service business to do their best to be of service. This lack of responsiveness also shows at the front office where the employee there does not care to be of help, understand a situation or assist to solve a problem. From a satisfied customer I became a p*****-off customer.
Description of Work: Alpine installed a new gas boiler after we decided to do an oil to gas conversion. They installed the new boiler and drew a gas line from the meter to our house. We compared their prices and overall proposal with other companies and went with them. Since we have tenants and sometimes travel we need maximum coverage and risk protection from any problem; so we opted for extended warranty, maintenance and service on all parts including peripherals.

We are sorry for this odd experience. We did try to contact you over the weekend. Now, after reviewing the chain of events, it is evident that you were out of town and we attempted on the home phone as opposed to cell phone. Our technician WAS able to speak with your tenant on Sunday who informed him that the heat was in fact reset and working. We went to investigate on Monday and the access door was locked. Your tenant confirmed that was unusual. We then returned on Wednesday to complete repairs once the door was unlocked. Ultimately, no one was without heat and we did do our best to take care of the situation. It was difficult without being able to communicate while you were out of the country and with restricted access to the system. We hope you rest assured this will not be a repeated experience.

After I sorted through the prices for the various options that I had asked to price out, they provided the financing for us and the work was scheduled to start. The installation went quickly and the work and workmanship was very professional. I was concerned about the rated noise levels for the condensers but did not realize that my old units were extremely loud and that the new units are very quiet compared to the old units and my concerns were not warranted. The only problem with the installation was that the humidifier was not wired correctly and I did not discover than until the heating season started. They come over without delay and found then fixed the problem without charge and I was good to go. The Lennox unit downstairs came with a WiFi enable thermostat and I installed a Nest thermostat upstairs so I can control both thermostats from my iPhone. I would definitely use Alpine Heating and Cooling again or encourage others to check them out.
Description of Work: We had two A/C unites that were 17 years old and were not holding freon any longer. After having a bad experience with the salesman from another company we were skeptical of another salesman, however, the salesman was very knowledgeable and patiently went through the various choices (repair vs. replace) and features of the new systems/components. After the salesman left I did some research and asked for 2 additional quotes as I changed and narrowed down the choice I was making. I opted for some higher end equipment for downstairs and saved a little upstairs. There was no pressure applied to close the deal before the salesman left our house (unlike other companies). Rather than just replace both evaporator coils, we opted to only replace the condensing unit and evaporator coil upstairs and put in a new high efficiency HVAC system for downstairs.

everything went great overall. the getlemen who came to the house knew what he was doing and actuall took the time to explain things utright. I had ordered an overall boiler inspection. The only things i did not like was, we did find a few issues and upon leaving here was told they woul call me back with estimates of what they found. I never heard back again. I called and thelady who answered th phone knows nothing about it. I'm not going to beg. I still need things done, howeve lets see what happens. All and all I would still recommend them simply based on how the serice person handled himself.

On New Years day evening, my old water heater died. I called my utility company which I had a worry free contract and a service rep was there with 4 hours. The repairman told me the water heater was beyond repair and would need to be replaced. The next day an authorized plumber came to my house to give me an estimate. They told me that my chimney needed to be lined because of new code and that they were unable to line the chimney with the current configuration. Estimate for water heater replacement and chimney work was outrageous. The quote was more than 4x's the cost of a water heater!!! With no suggestion from the plumber, I alone thought of perhaps going with a high energy effieciency model that would not require going through the chimney and because my furnace was equally as old, I would look into replacing that at the same time. I went on Angies List and found Alpine and called them because of their location, number of reviews and positive experiences. This was at 4 pm on 1/2. I spoke to Art who is the owner and he came over 3 hours later. We discussed options, rebates, cost etc. He told me it would be a 1 1/2 day job. At 9 am the next day, 3 techs showed up. The replaced my furnace, water heater, installed a humidifier and added a vent in my basement. All of that, with rebates, cost me less than the quote I got for the water heater and chimney work alone. And, they got it done in 1 day. I highly recommend this company. I am confident that if any future service issues arise, the situation will be remedied in the same manner and professionalism as the installation.

Tried to set up an appointment to get an estimate on replacing ductwork in my house. It was obvious right away that Art felt like I was wasting his time and he had no interest in helping. Was I said that I have had another company look at system and they said we needed the ductwork redone, he said "if you have contacted another company, why are you calling me then". I guess he doesn't understand that people like get to few quotes and then chose a company. He actually laughed at me. Not professional at all. Would use them even in an emergency!

Customer, We are sorry that your experience was not a positive one. Since the hurricane we have been dealing with many customers who have lost their boilers, furnaces and hot water heaters due to flooding and other circumstances. We have been doing our best to respond to and service those without heat, hot water and other critical appliances. Our staff has been tirelessly working, including many late nights and weekends. Everyone is certainly entitled to receive competitive quotes and I understand you had four already. We did not mean to offend you.

Both our furnaces heating elements cracked when the power came on after hurricane Sandy. We were without heat in November. I called 6 HVAC companies. Everyone was very busy after the hurricane. The owner of Alpine came out to review what needed to be done and explained our options for replacing the two furnaces. He wrote a price quote on the spot. All of the other companies said they would get back to me with a quote and after three days I had not received one quote from the OTHER companies. Alpine's quote was very reasonable. This company has been in business a long time and Art the owner has a long history of experience in heating and cooling which he and his company demonstrated during this installation. The service techs came the next day and installed one furnace and then the next day installed the other furnace. We did not know if we needed new coils since the coils would have to be removed for inspection. Alpine was very honest and only replaced the one coil that needed to be replaced and showed me the crack in the coil. A different HVAC company said they had to replace both which was not necessary. The service technicians were extremely professional and explained the new furnaces installed. They also DID NOT nickle and dime me when they got here they even did little extras without charge. They cleaned up and were very neat. The furnaces have been purring for two weeks now and I thank Alpine for that. I don't usually write reviews, but needed to give Alpine and excellent review because they deserved it!!

professional clean crew of 2 guys over 2 days. work was clean, and they did a great job- courteous. Art is old school- came by with a measuring tape and obviously been around a long time- knows what he's talking about. part of the problem was not enough air inflow into the unit- they opened up a 12" square opening in my living room flour in the corner behind the tv, finished it with a nice brown plate and it looks like it always belonged! incredible job.
Description of Work: PROBLEM: A-summer- 1st floor comfy, 2nd floor hot- had window units with my central A/C and high elec bills. B- winter- 1st floor warm, 2nd floor cold. what can I say - I was a sceptic after 3 estimates but Art was the last one to come by. He gave me a history lesson of my area and the homes, explained the problem and his recommendation- including more expensive options he felt were not necessary. I waited until the new season change to see how everything works RESULT: 2nd thermostat on 2nd floor controls A/C- while downstairs is colder, for first time we were comfortable at night and the window units are gone!! no longer needed đź‘Ť. variance between the 2 floors is less than 3 degrees and my electric bill went down by over 20% winter- also, for the FIRST time in this home, we have equal temperature on both floors and the system is so efficient- I recommend these guys to anyone! Bravo!

Working with Alpine to upgrade our HVAC system and provide generator service to our home has been a wonderful experience. The pricing was reasonable and all paperwork and permits were taken care of by the office staff at Alpine - Robin and Chantal were fabulous. We are already enjoying our gas fireplace logset and know we will continue to enjoy it as the weather gets colder. Better yet, they have applied for rebates through the utility company as well as through the manufacturer on our behalf and we will be reaping those benefits shortly. Overall, this was a super A+ experience and we look forward to working with Alpine for the upkeep and maintenance of our new systems in the years to come.
Description of Work: Alpine Heating & Cooling has been fabulous from day one. We contacted them in September and had a representative out to the house almost immediately and what worked with my schedule. We discussed replacing our HVAC system, a whole house generator and the conversion of our wood burning fireplace with a gas fireplace. All items were discussed in detail and the work commenced as soon as we decided what we wanted. Our HVAC system, along with a whole house humidifier, was installed pronto and we are very happy with it in the almost two months we've had it - the suggestion of a WiFi thermostat, which we didn't originally think we needed has been a great asset and continues the efficiency that we've received from the new system. It is so quiet, we almost don't know it is there and working, except for the readout on our WiFi thermostat and the comfort of our home. We also went with the installation of a Humidex system in our basement to clean and dehumidify the air down there at the recommendation of Alpine. Our basement is unfinished, but we had recently put some furniture and a ping pong table down there to use as a recreation area - I can already feel the investment was worth it - the basement was not overly wet or moldy, but now there is no stale, damp, basement smell. I can feel good having my son and his friends hang out down there now. He has allergies and some of his friends have asthma, so that was an important consideration. The techs who did all the work were very professional and friendly and very knowledgeable and the office staff is fabulous! We had our whole house generator placed outside our home prior to Township approvals and waiting for hookup for a few weeks. With Superstorm Sandy on its way, the office staff worked with me to get the proper paperwork into the Township offices to speed up the process. A visit by me to the Township offices on the Thursday/Friday before the storm got Zoning approvals and Alpine quickly arranged to have their techs and their electrician scheduled to come out on Monday morning during the buildup to the storm. These men came here from further south where the storm was the worst and already raging and worked until the generator was up and running that morning instead of being with their families to prepare for the storm. As a result, we had heat, light, refrigeration, etc. during the storm when the power went out the next day after the install. We were able to help out neighbors and friends with storing food in our basement freezer and providing hot meals and a place to stay to keep warm. My son's friends came over to hang out and play video and board games in a comfortable home. We were out of power in our neighborhood for about 3-4 days and we would have lost all our food in the refrigerator and freezer and been very cold and uncomfortable without the generator. THANK YOU ALPINE! Our fireplace conversion was completed the following Friday after the storm, while people still had no power and roads were blocked with fallen trees and utility wires and poles and the gasoline shortage was still evident. I can't say enough about the service we received from Alpine - they are the greatest and have recommended them to many neighbors and friends already, particulary about the generator install!

Solved my problem, not charging any cents, resolved over the phone to teach me troubleshooting the system.
Description of Work: My heating furnace did not run after the Sandy hurricane. And the thermostat didn't have any power from the furnace. So it did not send any signal to the furnace to call it. Then I called a few companies to schedule a service, including the company installed the Trane furnace 2 years ago. Alpine Heating and Cooling is the first one called me back with a technical support. The gentlemen asked me a few questions, explained what could be wrong. And I use a electronic meter to measure the different volts in the furnace control board and then the thermostat wiring. Then the conclusion is pretty much both the furnace and the thermostat have no problem. There could be a disconnect on the wire between the furnace and the thermostat. That really helped, I quickly discovered the condensate pump had a issue which cause the red line from the furnace to the thermostat disconnected. So I fixed that and the furnace began to run again!!! I spend zero cents and not much time. The problem was resolved. Thanks a lot to the technician from Alpine Heating and Cooling. Very professional and enthusiastic.

Being that I had just purchased a new home about 2 months ago, I had a service tech come out and provide a yearly cleaning of the steam boiler and yearly winter inspection of my boiler to make sure that the unit was in good working order. Now mind you, the tech never fired up my boiler longer than maybe 30 seconds or so to verify that it lit. I do have to say the tech was on time and very friendly. The tech "SEEMED" to know what he was doing. He explained that there looked like there was some damage to the burner units, the pilot light looked to large, and the emergency pilot gas shut off valve wasn't closing properly. The tech told me because of the gas shut off valve not performing properly not to use the unit. The company spent over a week trying to find parts for my unit, which is 37 yrs old, only to tell me Burnham no longer made the parts and there were no retrofits. One of the head gentleman there named Steve is virtually one of the most unprofessional and rudest people I have ever spoken with. I verified with Alpines office prior to placing the appointment whether I needed to pay the tech at time of service or whether they could send me a bill and I could make a payment in with a money order or CC. Alpines office verified that I could make the payment with a mailed statement. When Alpines technician claimed that repairs were needed, I asked the office if they could combine all charges into one bill or if they needed separate payments. The office stated they needed separate payments. I called back about a week later to check on the status of the boiler parts, (since Alpine had not got back in touch with me regarding parts availability). I spoke with a gentleman names Steve, and not only myself, but my mother, were talked down to and chastised in a very nasty demeanor. I was told that "if I go to McDonalds I am required to pay for services when I order my meal, so why wouldn't I be required to pay them (Alpine) as well, and they (Alpine) don't do credit for new customers." Now mind you again, I asked and verified that it could be done that way and they (Alpine) verified it could be paid that way. I STILL HAVE YET TO EVER RECEIVE A BILL OR COPY OF OUR PAID RECEIPT. IT IS NOW OCTOBER 28TH. I contacted my Home Warranty Services who sent out one of their represented contractors for a second inspection of the unit to verify if there was anything wrong with the unit which cost me ANOTHER $95.00. Upon their inspection the pilot assembly, burners, and emergency pilot shut off valve worked perfectly, which according to the Alpine tech did not. The tech from my Home Warranty Services company filled and fired the unit for several minutes, which Alpine didn't do, and discovered that the unit's block was cracked. Had Alpine fired the unit they would have discovered the problem and I would not have been waiting for weeks to get a new boiler into my house. I currently still don't have a new boiler yet and as such no heat. (Thankfully it's not a deep freeze like last year). Alpine is a company I would never think about using again, would never recommend to anyone else and in my opinion tried to beef up a sale (having to purchase a replacement boiler) saying the units parts were not in safe working condition (which if the block wasn't cracked) would have been a bold face lie. And to add insult to injury with the way we were treated by the gentleman there named Steve, it makes for a very poor company to choose to do your business with.

Response from Alpine Heating and Cooling
We are very sorry about your experience. As you can see from just about all of our other reviews, yours is the exception, certainly not the norm. After inspecting your boiler, our technician found a number of significant problems, starting with severely damaged burners. Due to the condition of the burners and other risk factors, such as the proximity to the constructed walls and danger with combustible materials, and the malfunctioning emergency valve, he did not feel it safe to fire it up. Given its condition and the fact it is close to 40 years old, he recommended replacing the unit, as would any company concerned for your safety. Our office did make you aware that there would be a $125 fee to inspect the boiler and our policy is to collect fees at time of service. Even though we were not paid, we spent several hours contacting distributors and ultimately the manufacturer themselves to try to get parts to make the repairs. I understand personalities flared when you followed up and we have handled the situation on our end. Ultimately, your Home Services Company came to the same conclusion that a new boiler was required, because of its age and dilapidated condition. Our technicians are technicians and not sales people. Their primary responsibility is to repair HVAC units, keep themselves and our customers safe. We insist they do not put themselves in harms way, whether it be on a steep roof or firing up a potentially dangerous boiler. Again, we are truly sorry that your interpretation of the assessment was negative and very sorry if you were not treated with the utmost customer service. We will continue to grow and improve from you comments and plan to continue to receive the stellar reviews that we have been on Angie’s List.

Great service as noted above.
Description of Work: outside a/c lines froze and no air entering house. I thought my compressors was shot. The service tech diagnoses the problem which was the inside blower motor. Same was changed after he adapted a unit that had the same specs but for another model. Very innovative. Excellent work, clean and prompt. delivered all services promised and on time and professionally. Would use them anytime.

There are many choices however we did our research. He was willing to put in the make we requested however since its owned by Trane we went with that product. He came over spent an hour or so going over various options. We got an email several days later with all the estimates and choices. While it took a while to nail everything down...we were satisfied with the process. Nailing down a date for instal took a bit of effort due to schedules. Originally it was supposed to take one day but it took 2. One issue to discuss before hand. If they move pipes, drainage, electrical etc....you'll need to discuss opening up drywall and how you want the cosmetics. We gave them half the money the first day of the install and left a check for them for the rest. Leaving a $100 out for a final walkthru. Make sure you know hat rebates you are getting and what paperwork you'll be asked to fill out. There are several rebates with 2 possibly taking up to 120 days....so be aware you'll be out that several thousand dollars for a 3 or so months. In particular one rebate from your Gas Company requires a home inspection where you'll be presented with some fixes to increase your efficiency. Its a few more thousand dollars with a few more thousand in possible rebates....
Description of Work: Alpine put in a new furnace and AC unit. The process is a little daunting but Steve gave us several options which went from high dollars high efficiency to lower dollars and lower efficiency. He showed us what rebates we would qualify for as well. I suspect they are very busy. The quote was significantly lower than the individual we were going to use. It took some time for me to receive the paperwork for my rebates...but when I called I got an update. I can recommend this company as I'm sure you'll be very happy you choose them. One of the reasons I requested a quote was due to all the good recommendations I read on Angies list.
