I called at 12:15pm and request service. I was expecting to be given an appointment for tomorrow but to my surprise I was told they would send a repairman out at 3:00pm today. Add another surprise... Brian was at my door at 1:30. He checked everything on the furnace and determined all we needed was a new pump and valves. Brian completed all the work in record time. He was courteous and professional. I highly recommend this company to anyone who wants incredible service and pricing.

They replaced my hot water heater after my current one needed to be replaced. Its a very tight space and the washing machine and dryer had to be moved out of the way. All other plumbers i brought in were going to charge me much more to do the same job. They were the best priced and did a very good job. I would recommend and use them again.

Water was leaking through my diningroom/livingroom ceiling from my air conditioner. I had a 3'x5' hole cut in my ceiling and water dripping into buckets in my diningroom. The service provider who installed my air-conditioner told me to cut the hole so he could see where the water was leaking from. Unfortunately, he never came back to fix the problem. On, 6/25/2013, I called Alpine and the next week, they sent Mark to check the problem. Mark seemed very thorough but basically just serviced the air-conditioner. When he finished he looked at the dripping duct and said that I needed all the ducts to be insulated and the whole ceiling of the livingroom, diningroom and foyer needed to come down. I was shocked. He was leaving and I asked what I owed him for that day. He said nothing. The boss would call me in the morning to explain everything. The boss never called. I started calling Alpine. The receptionist always took the message but no one ever called back. I still had a large hole and water dripping into buckets. I even asked the receptionist if I could email the boss. She said yes and gave me his address. He never respondedd to my email either. Out of desperation, I joined Angie's list (the best thing I ever did) and found a wonderful company that came and worked with me until they found the reason for the leak. The receptionist for Alpine did finally call on 7/25/2013. I told her I was still waiting for the boss, Art, to call me but another company was now working on the problem.

We are very sorry for your experience. After doing some research, we believe our email response went into your Spam, or was obviously never received. Art's response to you on 7/9/13 was as follows: "This is a two step procedure. We will need to pump the system down, remove the evaporator coil, inspect the pan and clean the unit. We have had this problem before in your development, many of the units are rentals and many occupants are not quick to replace there air filters, thus building a mat internally which causes flooding. If the drain pan is viable, we can reinstall the coil and the problem will be solved. If it isn’t viable the replacement coils unfortunately are larger and will necessitate the removal and reinstallation of the furnace, it might be the time to consider replacing same. But first we need to look at the coil and I suspect it will be salvageable. The cost would be $220 + NJST. Please call our office to schedule the work." We never heard back from you, and we followed up on 7/25/13 by phone, but by then you had the work taken care of already. Apologies for the miscommunication, but we are glad you found a contractor to take care of this for you.

Our heater stopped heating on Monday. After choosing Alpine based on Angie's List reviews, we called -- but since it was after hours, they didn't get back to until the next morning (as stated in their profile, they don't do 24-hour service). However, they DID call in the morning, and had a technician out within 2 hours. The technician found a simple adjustment/repair that was needed, made the adjustment, and provided advice on how we could avoid this problem in the future. The charge was $101, which is, nowadays, a fair and good price for a quick adjustment. In a time when many service companies -- including some I've reviewed here -- have their technician _start_ by trying to sell you various packages, upgrades, and so forth, it's refreshing to have a company whose technician does the requested job without a fuss. Moreover, if our next call to Alpine brings a recommendation for further work, I'm much more likely to take that recommendation seriously after this experience.

We were looking to add an extra return air intake in our living room, above the firewood stove, to facilitate distribution of heat through the house. We checked with a few contractors and got estimates in 1500-2000 range. That seemed excessive considering the task. Then came Alpine, gave us 520 estimate for both work and materials. And 2 weeks later, we had our intake. It took them about an hour to do all the work. And we're very satisfied with the results.

Had both furnaces out of service. Alpine sent Brian to service. Impressed - meticulous & diligent worker, checked one thing after another until he found the problem. Hard to find people like that. Also among the more affordable providers out there. Compare that to another company I had over previously for that same furnace. Comparing the two, the previous company people looked like amateurs. Brian had the right tools for the job - he checked the pressure at the pressure switch (which he confirmed was working as specced...the other company guessed it was bad and had me order a replacement, which obviously didn't make any improvement). He finally found the problem to be the sealant between the exhaust motor and compartment was wearing out causing loss of pressure. Applied new silicone sealant which fixed the furnace! The other furnace was not working too and that was relatively easy.
Description of Work: Two furnaces weren't working. Brian from Alpine found a difficult to diagnose problem on one of them, and fixed both in two hours.

Thank you for your comments. When you purchase a Deal or Service Agreement, it is for one system (furnace and AC) if you select a combo. Of course the price would be per system, and we do offer a 10% discount for the second system. We are sorry you are disappointed that we cannot cover 2 systems for the price of one, but it is common practice for us and any other HVAC company that each system is charged. Many do not offer a 10% discount for the second. We look forward to providing you with great service for both systems in the future.

After getting 5 different estimates from various contractors involved in oil to gas conversions and generator installations, I chose Alpine. Alpine appeared to be the most knowledgeable and most experienced for the type of work I knew this job entailed. Equally important , their estimate, for the cost of the job, was reasonable and near the lowest. The president of the company ,Art Saloff, listened to all my concerns and was more than accommodating in explaining all options. Since our brick house, originally built in 1983 and insulated for electric heating, has extremely thick walls, concrete filled cinder blocks, and with the gas line located on the opposite end of the house from the main 200 amp electrical panel, it presented some challenging problems to prospective contractors. Some of the others were overly challenged citing the difficulty in drilling through brick and concrete to install the 80 feet or so of black iron gas pipe. One electrical only contractor (quickly eliminated from consideration) suggested installing the transfer switch on the opposite side of the house near the gas meter approximately 75 feet from the main panel and running conduit and only allowing certain circuits to work instead of gas pipe which he said would cost $25.00/foot. One contractors said I would first have to either have my chimney swept and or relined by a separate contractor. Also I would have to separately hire out an electrical contractor for the generator. Alpine said said they would do the whole job which included the boiler, hot water heater, chimney liner, all associated boiler parts for the three zones and the generator . His workers always showed up on time, were patient, and explained what they were doing and cleaned up before they left. They also did an excellent job in routing the fairly large diameter black iron pipe along the ceiling with right angle connections instead of diagonally across the ceiling as another contractor suggested. My overall impression was that this is a well run company that is honest, won't cut corners, and will respond to concerns and remedy problems that develop. I highly recommend and would use them again for warranty maintenance work.

It was a great experience for me. He came and he listened to my concerns and he gave me a super air conditioning and heating system to meet my concerns. Our house wasn't getting enough air and heat and he put something in it and now it does. He has been in business a very long time and he knows what he's talking about. He described the product well. He gave me a very efficient unit and the bill I've had since were quite what he said is true. His men were clean, they took out all the garbage. They did the work and I haven't had to call them back for anything. In fact, he called me to follow up just to see if everything was working right. He did first rate job. It was just a great experience.

Tech Mark was great. My unit was actually frozen solid so he had to come back two days in a row. He explained (clearly) what was wrong and fixed the issue. What i liked most was how he explained the issue with my quarter of a century old unit. I will need to replace the entire unit soon and will be gladly accepting an estimate from Alpine. I only thing I can say as a negative is the fact that there are no Saturday appointments. While I understand and respect that everyone needs a day off it is rare to find service providers not available on a Saturday. Based on all of the positive reviews I chose to use Alpine and took the day off from work but that actually because two days off due to the issue with my system. I am definitely a person who would pay a premium for a Saturday appointment to not have to lose time at my job.

Everything with Alpine went quite well. The quote process was good, the tech came out to the house and did a thorough evaluation of everything explained in detail what he suggested. The price was very reasonable, after the applicable rebates, the full furnace and A/C upgrade cost only a few thousand more than quotes I had gotten from other companies to only upgrade my A/C. After approving the proposal, the work took place the following week. They also submitted several of the rebates for me directly, and provided all of the other rebate forms pre-filled out for me to submit after attaching some additional paperwork. The only hiccup was that the work failed the town inspection due to a few minor things, but Alpine came right out and fixed them, and the following inspection passed no problem. I would highly recommend Alpine to anyone.

The $1200 cost mentioned above is for a hot water heater only, which was installed about 3 years ago. Most recent date of service is for the annual maintenance contract.. We have used the services of Alpine Refrigeration for about 30 years. They have installed 2 furnaces and 2 hot water heaters and central air conditioning over the years. We also have an annual maintenance contract with them. They have provided estimates prior to installation including several equipment alternatives. They provided thoughtful comparisons of the alternatives, assisting us in selecting what is appropriate for our needs. The work was done in a timely and neat manner. The equipment functioned properly with no call back problems. The service technicians are friendly and pleasant. On one occasion we did have trouble receiving service after hours for a heating problem but on subsequent occasions, response was prompt. I would recommend Alpine to anyone needing HVAC services.

As to price, there were several less expensive estimates available, but after speaking with the owner himself I felt that he was a very involved, long standing owner of a reputable company that was worth the marginally extra cost. Having experience in the HVAC/Refrigeration field, and having taught Industrial Arts for 20 years, I have a more critical take on the whole installation process. Sufficed to say, that the quality was adequate for the job at hand and the technicians, Jay and Jerry, were very polite and respectful. The Central Air conditioner cools and dehumidifies now where it didn't before. They were neat and thorough about the completion of the job, although there was an accidental Freon oil spill on the paver patio that may need to be addressed. They're given additional credit for starting the job in the pouring rain, albeit an hour later than I was told they would arrive. They made good use of their time and didn't complain about my hanging around or offers of advice. As I mentioned earlier, I am more critical because of my experience. I look at all work done more as "company owner" with employees rather than a "home owner" needing a service call. So, the "OVERALL Experience: B" would likely be equivalent to another home owner's "A." All in all, I'm satisfied with the tech's, the company, and the work thus far, and after speaking with Art the owner, I don't expect I'll need to change my mind. Thank you Alpine.

One of the worst company I have ever dealt in my life. In appliance repair jobs, many are mom-and-pop shops that at times are not very responsive. But at least they are not vulgar (use of foul and derogatory language), insulting, and downright deceiving -- which is what this company turned out to be. Even though my submission is now three years old, I felt compelled to submit so others are wary of dealing with this company and don't go thru the same terrible experience I had to go through. We were impressed by the professionalism of the salesperson (brother of the owner Art) and chose to go with them with this big-ticket expense. Further, our #1 reason to select this company and the very high-end system was the explicit promise (documented on the proposal) of tax, utility and manufacturer (Lenox) rebates. After the work was done and the payment was collected, this company changed its colors completely. We learnt of their deception when our rebate submission to the utility was turned down because the coil used was not in the approved configuration for the needed SEER performance for the rebate. When we brought this up to this company, we got nowhere for months -- first a series of flat denials that they did anything wrong, then the owner Art became very vulgar and insulting on the phone and in emails, and then stopped even responding. Finally, when we made official complaint to Lenox and the district manager intervened and threatened to take them off from their authorized dealer list, they replaced the coils. Never admitted their mistake and deception!!! Never apologized for their unprofessional and insulting behavior. I would advise anyone trying to use to be wary of high-temper the owner has and potential for deceptive practices and not getting what they actually promised and wrote on the contract.

We remember this job clearly and are sorry you waited 2 years to vent your frustration. In fairness, yes, the equipment originally installed did not qualify you for the $300 rebate. That is NOT because it was the wrong equipment or an error on our part, but due to a ratings change by AHRI. We felt strongly that the original coil was compatible for the efficiency and did work with the Lennox representative to substantiate that. When it was recommended to us to change the coil to abide by the updated standards, we did so with no hesitation. I understand you have received your rebates, and you did get an excellent system installed by professionals. Not every customer can have an excellent experience, and we are sorry that yours was one of the rare few. Please take some time to read read what dozens of other members have said in contrary to your experience.

After being recommended to the company, the owner, Art, came to our 80+ year old home, did the measurements, figured out what needed doing and came back with an estimate. As a man who asks a lot of questions, Art was very good with the back and forth until we agreed on what the work would be. Art took care of getting the proper permits, his crew was dependable, friendly, and efficient. There was perhaps one morning on a week long job when some signals got crossed but overall the installation went well. The guys upon running into some issues with the duct work were sure to call the home office to get the answers they needed before proceeding. Also, the folks at the home office were great about making me aware of rebates, tax credits and other incentives that would save us some money. Overall, I would use the company again and I highly recommend them. Thanks Art!
