It’s 100 yr old house, old liner was neither going all the way to the top nor it was coming all the way to bottom. It was a very complex job, but both handled it really well. Very professional guys, punctual, delivered high quality result, without any drama. I would highly recommend Approved Chimeny for liner replacement or chimney related work.

+ 1 moreWe had just moved into our new house and it having two fireplaces, I automatically called the previous company who I had been using at my old place (although never truly loved them). They gave me devastating news that both were in such poor condition that I was looking at around 30k and my wood burning was completely shot and I was better off converting it into an enclosed gas model. I blame myself for not getting a separate chimney inspection. It was the dead of winter and I figured we would just bundle up until we could afford the repairs as they said it was unsafe to use. It would always take two months to get these folks over to my place as it was always 'busy season'. It made me think I should go into the chimney business. Anyway, I am glad I got a second opinion. Vic saved the day and both my chimneys for a fair cost in record time. He gave realistic and practical options and even diagnosed a leak which could have been catastrophic. He didn't up-sell and was the epitome of honest. These guys are so mellow that when my contractor literally and inexplicably ran his car into his stationary truck, he brushed it off as though it was no big deal, even though it caused me great embarrassment. Approved Chimney, you do great work. I love you!

+ 2 moreThe business owner Vick came to the house, went up on the roof to review the condition of the chimney (the only business that did so), and inspected the basement flue vent to determine what was needed. He was courteous and professional throughout his visit and answered all of our questions regarding the work needed and why. He provided an estimate the same day, which was fair and covered the services indicated. Lim and George who performed the work were also punctual, professional, and very nice. They finished the entire job on the same day and really did an excellent job overall on all of the work performed. They even went so far as to match the bricks they used to build up the chimney, which is 85 years old. My wife and I were very pleased with the quality of the work. Vick and his team also followed up after the main job was completed on a cap and assisted with the inspection performed by the township. This is a company that wants to assure that everything is right and to ensure your satisfaction. I would certainly strongly recommend Approved Chimney to anyone that needs these services.

+ -1 moreIncredibly disappointed. Someone did show up to view the job over two weeks ago. I was given a verbal summary of what they would do and was told that I would get an estimate in the next few business days. I followed up and was told that they hadn't written it up and again I would hear in a couple of days. Followed up a second time, one week later and was told that I would get the estimate that night and a call to confirm that I got it. It's now three days later and no estimate or call. Apparently they have so much work that they don't have time to try to acquire new customers. If they can't deliver on their promises now, not going to take a chance on them fixing the chimneys. Good luck if you decide to use them.

+ 2 moreThe project went very well. I have rarely seen a crew work so well together (or so neatly). They were extremely professional and very careful about all the details. Before they started, they wrapped all the hanging laundry in the basement in clear plastic to protect it. Every move they made seemed well thought out and effective. Before they left they tested all the work they had done and turned on and tested all the equipment attached to the system. When they were gone the cellar was cleaner than when they came. While the job was not inexpensive, I feel that I got full value for what I paid. The expertise they showed and the quality of the product they turned out made it all worth while.

+ -1 moreI received the written estimate within hours of the inspection. The estimate was competitive. We agreed on the work and scheduled the appointment for 1 week later. I received a confirmation call the evening before. That morning, Yanil went to get the permit from the city. It took him 2 hours. He arrived shortly after 11AM. This was perfect since I was told to expect them between 10AM and Noon. They know how to schedule so had allotted sufficient time to obtain a permit. The job was completed in just about 2 hours. I was able to work from home undisturbed except when they arrived and when it was time to show me the completed work and pictures. They were clean, quiet, efficient, polite and affordable. I'll call them back when I'm ready to line my other chimney. THANKS ANGIE'S LIST and APPROVED CHIMNEY!
Description of Work: The entire team was wonderful. My call was answered by the office and I was scheduled for an inspection/estimate. I received an update asking if they could arrive earlier than scheduled which I approved. Yanil did a thorough inspection of my chimney and determined that I actually had 2 flues in 1 chimney. He showed me pictures from his phone so I could fully understand what was required. He agreed to cover one flue that no longer served a purpose and explained I needed a liner in the other. My house built in 1900 had unlined chimneys and there were bricks that had partially blocked the chimney acting as the exhaust for my hot water heater.

+ -1 moreEverything went well during this job. The owner (Vick) came out to make his assessment, create the estimate and schedule the job. He was very professional in his examination and explanation of the problem we were facing and how to best resolve it. We were able to see "before" photos at our first meeting and "after" photos when the job was completed (seeing is believing!). We were also happy to apply their discount coupon against the bill.
Description of Work: Our chimney had 4 flues but only one (for the boiler) had a cap...but squirrels and water were getting down the other 3 that were open. The recommendation was to install a custom metal plate as well as sealant to completely shut them off. At the same time, an old tv antenna secured to the chimney by a metal band needed to be removed.

+ 3 moreOutstanding! The workers were professional, neat, arrived on time and got the work done in one day. They removed the bottom damper and installed the new upper damper (both were supposed to have been done before), installed bottom and top plates (inspection failure), cleared the debris and removed creosote chemically. Because the previous single-layer liner was not to-code or safe, the guys poured a manufacturer-approved insulation around the liner tube. In order to remove the debris, they had to go through the brick on the opposite side. When put back, one can hardly tell which bricks were removed. They also smoothed and sealed the smoke chamber with SmokeTite. To repair the damaged furnace flue, they installed a complete steel lining system with cap, plate and storm collar ($2900 before discount). I can't say enough in praise of Approved Chimney! It was a pleasure to work with them ... from office manager Yanni, to the guys who completed the work, and of course with owner, Vick Jakupi. These guys learned their trade in Europe and approach their interactions in an Old World style ... something sorely missing with many contractors in our area. They instilled our full confidence in their work and we now feel safe and sleep well at night! We are long-time Angie's List members and use the service for any major household service. I'm afraid we rushed into working with the previous contractor and didn't do our due diligence. Fortunately, we lived to tell the tale! If you need any kind of chimney work done, I highly recommend Approved Chimney with my whole heart. There are SO many chimney contractors in NJ who take advantage of unsuspecting homeowners (especially seniors like us) who can't really see the work and don't fully understand the factors that go in to making a chimney safe and functioning well. Call Vick for an estimate and work with these honest, meticulous professionals who also practice loving-kindness ... a rare combination in this industry! :-D
Description of Work: Vick and his guys were truly a Godsend! After another contractor relined our fireplace flue, Vick came to our rescue in a nightmare situation. Not only did this other company not perform the work we contracted for, their work was not-to-code (failed inspection), shoddy and incomplete ... even life-threatening! When they "clacked out" the fireplace flue tiles (which didn't need to be done anyway), they left heavy debris on the damper so that we couldn't even open it. Moreover, the clacked tiles fell and created a hole in the furnace flue from which carbon monoxide could escape. Very scary! Vick was so kind and supportive and worked with us on price (pre-discounted cost is below). He was sincerely sorry that we had to go through this from someone in his industry and he was very patient in explaining what wasn't done right. They even took many "before" pictures of the incorrect work and the damage done to the furnace flue. The photos and written documentation are invaluable in our case against the Hawthorne-based contractor who will be named after our dispute is settled. Vick restored my faith in the goodness of humankind! :-)

There were no hidden costs and we were extremely happy with the job they did. They were very easy to deal with and I would recommend them 100%. This was a very big project that we had been putting off for a long time. We would have done it sooner had we known that we could find a company as capable, conscientious and cost effective as Approved Chimney.

He was punctual, professional, very knowledgable and a pleasure to deal with. He provided me with a detailed proposal on the spot and was able to accommodate my need for "speedy service" (the conversion project could not move forward until the liner was in place). Everyone from the office staff to the team of workers was a pleasure to work with. Services were provided exactly as promised! Then scheduled the appointment and on the day of the appointment, nobody showed up! I called them and left a message but no body called me back. I called again and they told me that they fought with angie's list to have the coupon removed because they are in their busy season and can't honor the coupon. I asked why she never called me to cancel the appointment, and she said that they did everything they can but Angies list should have called. How about this? Because of your service, I nor anyone I know will ever use Approved Chimney Services. Horrible experience.

Highly recommended. I received three inspections and estimate and decided to go with Vick. Price was not cheapest - but I think it was a good value for the quality of the work.

They did it and offered to haul it away for free. It was huge piece, it would take me a lot of time to disassemble it myself. + -1 moreDuring the booking, I was told a technician will be calling me 30 min before arrival, no one called or showed between the time frame given. Called the office back at 12:30 asking when to expect the technician, the person told me that the appointment was in the books but they were so busy and none of the technicians could make the appointment as they were all booked for the day for other appointments. There was not a courtesy call that they would miss the appointment or an attempt to rebook.
Description of Work: setup appointment between 9-12 to review the chimney and give estimate for mortar and cap repair, no one showed or called.

+ 0 moreI called Vick on the Tuesday. Wednesday morning at 9am he came to look at the job. He was upfront about the size of my current liner and what would have to be done to upgrade to code. His estimate was exactly where I thought it should be. I scheduled for his guys to come on Friday but Vick could have had guys come as soon as that Thursday. The 2 guys came punctually at 9am, introduced themselves and explained what they would be doing (lots of noise, and not to worry about any debris as they will clean up). Even with taking a brief lunch and having to make a run for a part the guys were done well before I needed to leave for work. They did an excellent job and showed me exactly what they did and had me inspect the new liner. They cleaned up fairly well although I did have to do a more refined clean up afterwards. Overall, Vick and his crew did an excellent job. Very punctual, friendly and communicated excellently about the process. I'd hire him again and refer him to friends
Description of Work: Demolished the top of the chimney and rebuilt 3 courses of bricks and rebuilt the crown. Broke out old 6" clay liner, which was too small for my upgraded boiler and hot water heater. They replaced old liner with a 7" stainless steel liner and put in a new cap,plate and storm collar.
