Home Built Construction did an OUTSTANDING job remodeling our bathroom. Kemar Gray worked very hard to ensure that everything we wanted was incorporated in the remodeling plans. We were very impressed by his knowledge, professionalism and pleasant demeanor which made the whole process an enjoyable experience. Kemar and his crew were always courteous and helpful by explaining what they were working on from the first day through the completion of the job. The finished project was AMAZING!! We highly recommend Home Built Construction for a job well done! Thank you so much for a job well done! Kindest regards, Andrean & Rob – Somerset, NJ 10/31/19
Project could not have gone better. Job was finished beautifully, on schedule, and for the estimated amount. As a real estate investor, I have worked with HBC several times and now have no need for any other contractors. They possess a high degree of professionalism and courtesy almost unheard of in any other company.
We were very pleased with their ability to take us from a single door to a door with light panel with no telltale signs. We love the work. They also do a mini-renewal of our family room - ceiling, wall, lighting, etc. LOVE, LOVE, the work. New floor in the kitchen. Perfect! Of course they will be my go-to construction team going forward.

I had hired Home Built Construction last year for a kitchen remodel and was very pleased with them, so this year, when the time came to remodel my master bathroom, I did not hesitate to reach out to them again. For my current project, I was remodeling the master bathroom in my 25-year-old townhouse. I already had a granite countertop/double sink installed by a granite supplier, and I needed a contractor to completely demolish and retile my original 1990s white tile shower, re-tile the walls around my jacuzzi tub, install new luxury vinyl plank flooring, and paint the walls, ceiling, doors, and trim. Just as with my kitchen remodel last year, Kemar from Home Built Construction looked at the space, understood my needs (giving the space a modern facelift on a reasonable budget) and quoted me a very fair price. The project turned out to be more difficult than he expected, because upon removing the old shower tiles, he discovered that there was a lot of water damage underneath, to the wooden framing and insulation behind the walls. Kemar needed to completely rebuild the half-wall and re-insulate, before beginning a very difficult and technically challenging tiling job. His attention to detail was impressive; he really does take a lot of pride in his work and in the final look of the space. Throughout the project, Kemar worked without me in the house for large periods of time as I had to work outside the house, and he kept me informed of the progress throughout. He was always attentive to my requests and questions, and I often asked him questions by text when I got home from work in the evening and saw each day’s work. At one point, he agreed to re-tile the top of two walls at my request, to bring the tiled walls up to the ceiling, without any hesitation on his part. The price of the work wound up being slightly higher than the original quote, but that was due to two legitimate unexpected issues that arose during the work - the water damage mentioned above, as well as a broken toilet fill valve that he needed to replace. But he was always fair and I never felt like I was being nickel-and-dimed. The completed work, just as for my kitchen last year, was of very high quality. I am thrilled with how my bathroom came out, and within my original budget. I definitely consider Home Built Construction my go-to contractor from now on.

I was looking to do a minor kitchen remodel in a cost-effective way in my 25-year-old townhouse, which still had its original basic kitchen. I already had a new granite countertop installed by a granite supplier, and I was looking for a contractor to paint my brown wood cabinets white, install a tile backsplash, install new luxury vinyl plank flooring, and paint the walls, ceiling, and trim. I interviewed six contractors for the job and in the end decided to go with Home Built Construction since they had the fairest price and Kemar seemed very understanding of what I wanted in the job. Specifically, I wanted to minimize both the costs associated with the remodel as well as the disruption to my house and kitchen during the process. From beginning to end, Kemar and manager Marjorie were extremely professional, attentive to my needs, and responsive to my questions. My needs actually changed slightly after I signed the contract, and without any hesitation, Marjorie adjusted the scope of the work to meet my needs, resulting in a slight decrease in total cost. Kemar and his crew showed up on time every day, and they completed the job within 5 days, just as he had originally predicted. Most impressively, my kitchen was usable during the entire process, just as Kemar promised, since his crew cleaned up their equipment and mess each afternoon before they left for the day. This made the entire process much less disruptive than it could have been. The crew worked quickly and their workmanship and attention to detail was excellent. It was obvious that they had pride in the quality of their work. The tile backsplash was a difficult installation due to multiple small circular tiles and it came out looking fantastic. The new floor also looks great. There were several behind-the-scenes details that Kemar had to do to get the finished floor looking good, including shaving one of the wall cabinets to accommodate the new floor height as well as adjusting the floor near the transition strips to achieve a seamless effect. The most difficult part of the project was painting the original brown wooden cabinets white, because the cabinet doors were old, dirty, and greasy, making it very difficult for the new paint to conceal all the imperfections. Kemar and his crew spent all week - significantly more time than they had expected - trying to achieve as good a final look as possible. And in the end, Kemar went out to purchase an additional stain blocker to try to improve the appearance of the doors. Ultimately, the cabinet doors came out looking good but still show some minor imperfections upon close inspection, but I believe that is more due to the condition of the original doors themselves rather than any lack of effort on the part of Kemar and his crew. Throughout the process, Kemar kept me fully informed of his progress every day. Overall, I was thrilled with the final look of the kitchen. I was extremely happy with Home Built Construction, and I would definitely hire them again.
I'm already looking for the next project so I can hire then again! They started right away and I never felt neglected due to other projects. Marjorie and Kemar are a wonderful team! They were collaborative, focused on my primary goal (budget) and thorough. From design, to work, to permits, all through to schedule they met and exceeded expectations. I've had some bad experiences with contractors in the past and was blown away by their work and dedication. My only hesitation with recommending them is that they may not be as available for my next project :)
We approached Home Built Construction based on their reasonable quote and commitment to finish the remodeling work as per our deadline; our deadline, I was told then was very tight. What they delivered, very much met our expectations and the project was indeed completed on time. As first timers our knowledge on "remodeling" was limited to online researches. Choosing the right material, color or fixtures can be very confusing; it helps when there is an experienced entity advising, guiding and laying out the options for you. The project manager was kind enough to take out time and help us through the entire process making the whole experience very easy and enriching for us. Home Built Construction has a good team. From the project manager, the administration staff scheduling the entire project to the onsite staff, everybody was efficient, accommodating and helpful. We would definitely think about Home Built Construction for our future projects.
Description of Work: Remodeling master bath/powder room; replacing doors.
Great. Much better than I expected. I priced a few different contractors from Angies List ranging from high-end established operators to joe handy-man next door. The project was to transform and small office into a studio apartment. To get a valid CO as an apartment, a shower, kitchen, and stove needed to be installed. The space already had a half-bath so some of the plumbing was there, however, new supply and waste hook ups needed to be added for the shower, kitchen and gas stove with all of the proper venting. Also needed a new electrical panel along with wired outlets and lights for the expanded bathroom. Also wanted the GC to apply for all of the permits and schedule the Inspections. So as you can guess, the estimates I received were mostly above what I was willing to pay. However, I wanted to at least get the shower installed and the hookups for the sink and gas line for the stove. The rest of it I figured I would just do little by little as extra money became available. I had a budget of <10 for just this work and their estimate was about 8500. Total after installation it came out to about 9100. The owners name is Kemar and he has partners doing Admin work. Hes pretty much the GC and he has a crew to do the building, electrical and plumbing. The project was pretty smooth and hands off for me which is great, because I have a day job and can only get there on the weekends to check on progress. I never got the sense I was being nickeled and dimed which is very refreshing in industry. Kemar is also really flexible and somewhat passionate about the job. When it came time to order the cabinets, toilet, vanity, ect, I just did a Home Depot phone order. Kemar picked up the stuff and installed it. Since we came in under budget for the initial work, I decided to continue with Home Built to finish the rest of the remodeling so I could get it rented out. The additional work to be done is to demo an existing wall, install a hall closet, level and tile the bathroom floor, install Vanity and Toilet and install laminate flooring throughout. Overall Im anticipating the total cost should be < 15k including material. I have to say Im currently very happy with the progress and I would certainly recommend Home Built. I plan to use them for any future remodeling projects and I will provide an update once they are completely done.

He did good job and very reasonable.
Description of Work: He did work in my bathroom. Installed lighting, and painting. Kitchen cabinets due broken pipe.
Both projects were delivered far better than I imagined. Great job! Wonderful care and attention to detail! My guests are as highly impressed by the “state-of-the-art” bathroom renovation and the efficient design of the kitchen as I am. The project was delivered to my satisfaction and I would not hesitate to recommend HBC or use them for future work of my own.
Description of Work: Complete Kitchen renovation & Complete Bathroom renovation
I was referred to Home Built construction after my house damaged by Huricane Sandy. He has done an excellent and I never had to call him back to fix anything....roof hasn't leaked since it was re-placed. Since then, I have used him on several other projects including a roof Job for my mother in-law and rental property repairs. He has also done repair work for my neighbor.
Workers did not cover ground around house beforre ripping tiles and roofing material. This debris was just thrown down onto ground with no protection. Some of this debris fell into my pond, contaminating fish and water, damaging screens on my windows, and were going to leave as is. My husband came home and saw the mess and made sure they helped him clean up.It was not my husbands responsibility to clean up their mess, especially when it could have been avoided in the first place by covering the area. This is unacceptable. I waited the next morning for workers to show up and scolded them for killing my fish etc. and it was only then that they took the precautionary measures they should have done in the first place. My husband complained to the owner and he apologized, but I would never recommend them to anyone.
