Here its one of thee 90%. Great person. Had a plan. Took our input and allowed us to make an unknown, unsafe condition go away. We were there on one job and noticed the beam and wall that held the house up over the stairs where not touching the ground. They had rotted and appeared ok till we noticed the stairs were not straight. We knew she had issues with the steps but this was all connected and when we tried to adjust the top step it all crumbled away. We had the stuff to fix it so we informed her and she said get it done. Her family member was there to verify everything. It is much better now and should solve the problem. She is very happy. Thats our goal. we earn our A's. People who like us write incredible reviews. Some make us blush. We thank her for the kind words and are glad she appreciated the work. By the way, there was no major increase in price. It took us about 2 hours and about 60 bucks own material. We charge 100/hr for 2 guys and 125/hr for three. We do not play. We were there for a total of 5 hrs on the first repair and little odds and ends. Then we went to do the stairs when this happened. Since we charge an hourly rate the only time you pay more is if you want to add things to the list (which almost all folks do) or something unexpected happens. We always allot a day for your improvement so if it gets done early and you have other things to get done, by all means get it done. We are good guys. We don't curse in your home. We talk with you and answer questions and make you part of the team. This is your house. We appreciate you letting us in. But please bare in mind we do nice work. We are not hacks. Quality takes a little more time but makes it something you will enjoy for many many moons. Please read our reviews and see for yourself.

Sweet folks who had a few things that needed attention. They liked us so much they had us come back a power wash their home. We also added some gutters where they never were. Like we said before, Angie's army is the best. Yes we get some folks who just do not get us. But overall AA is one of the greatest places to find good folks who appreciate a quality job at a fair price.

Had some weather delays, so original date was pushed back to "next week" and then they texted me and asked if they could start that day after a cancellation. Work was done professionally and well, with a previously unidentified problem with the underlaying tar paper repaired at no extra charge. New plywood siding installed, weatherproofed, and painted to match. They even touched up around the edges and straightened the louvers in the vent! The way Dixie works is that you buy all the materials and have them ready to go; this saves you from the markup. They came out and told me what to get, and then installed it. Couldn't be happier!

We had storm damage from back when the mini cyclone ran through NJ in June. Some of us remember that fun right? We had a smashed out bathroom window, small hole in the house from the massive tree branch that fell. Water damage in the bathroom. Busted up gutter and when they arrived to finish we tossed in the busted fence :) We took two visits staggered, first one was to replace the vast majority of the siding and have the trees limb (BIG TREE LIMB) cut up and moved out of the way. They also painted the ceiling in the bathroom. 2nd Visit: The Window was a custom order and we had to wait so today, they returned nice and early :) and started in and finished painting the bathroom. It looks great :). They got the new window installed and we upgraded the materials used for long term. Love the new window, it's not broken :) They also replaced the gutter. When they arrived this morning we showed them the fence damage from having a tree taken down (getting fence people is a joke) and Joey and said no problem and fixed that as well. We have another project slated for what he suggested Spring :) and will definitely be contacting them to take care of that and what we can't do ourselves :) Thanks guys

The best part of our company is our ability to surprise folks with what we know. These folks had a nice list of very different things. Each one of us is a good mechanic, but we also have things we access at and thats what makes us a great team. They asked , "You guys do trees work?" We do but they had a tree that required a real Tree guy. Enter Farmer Ferd. A great guy and one of the few guys we recommend because they get it. They treat customers with respect and try to stay within there budgets. They asked, "Do you do fencing?" Yes. yes we do. They thought we would have to remove post and dig up the concrete. Yeah if we wanted to get this job to last an extra day or 2. But we can repair it and it will be done in a day or less. The window I removed was not properly installed or flashed. I strongly recommended either the wood be pressure treated and painted in a few weeks or using PVC lumber and having a maintenance free finish that will never rot or need painting. They chose the better of the 2. The only additional cost is the materials. The rest was within our scope of work. Thank you for the kind words and hope to hear from you in the future.
Joey and his crew did a number of repairs and remodeling to a home we wanted to put up for sale. They completely gutted the old kitchen, and did a beautiful job on the new cabinets and countertop. The painting and trim work was excellent. They worked over a period of 2 months as materials we ordered became available and transformed the appearance of the house. Joey was very responsive to text messages and phone calls and kept communcation going. He is also very upbeat and friendly, which helps. We were very impressed and would definitely hire Joey again.

Not to brag, but so far we have helped 8 families this year sell a home. From the smallest to the largest. We are able to help you do the little things that make the sale. In this case, she thought she needed to upgrade the kitchen. We helped make it happen. A swapping of the cabinets and, presto, we're in 2015. They already had a beautiful home. All we did was freshen it up. And when you get your inspection list, and you will, we are the company that can normally handle about 95-100% of it. In this case we got it all except the gardening. She had a guy already.

Joey arrived on time for the estimate. Was very friendly and knowledgeable. Job was to remove a rotting trim board from behind a downspout, from ground level to about ten feet up, plus weatherproof the installation. He also arrived on the date promised to perform the work, and performed it well. Was impressed and will use again. One note, they ask that you provide all materials (which I did).

Joey does not know who this is but he sounds like a one of the 10%. We have a message that is pretty clear. Angie's army folks should leave a message on the message board. This is our proof you are a member. Members get preference. It also leaves an email address. Dixiethm@gmail.com. I am a working boss. I get a bunch of calls. A most are people trying to sell me something. Plus if I am working on your job I think its rather rude to stop what I am doing for you to answer a call. You are paying me. You deserve my attention. That is what you get. He did manage to find the reviews without a problem.
Joey and Ryan arrived on time and got right to work. They were professional and courteous. I did a rough sketch of a closet I wanted built in my spare bedroom. They built it exactly as I wanted it. Even suggesting one enhancement I didn't think of. It looks almost like one of those "California Closets" that you pay much, much more for. I would highly recommend Dixie Total Home Maintenance and will use them again in the future.

He did a good job during the handyman for a day deal. He said he would be able to come back and help me with a window, but then he kept delaying the project. She is correct. I am a working boss. I answer the phone and more often than not its a telemarketer. Usually when I am in a crawl space or Using heavy equipment. That's why the message that gives you ways to get ahold of us. Plus Angie's List message board ensures we answer you promptly. I also ask for reviews for the same reason. I always good or bad please leave a detailed review. This is why. She is an awesome person. She had a break in and she wanted us to replace the doors, but the prices I was getting were outrageous. I shop at the Lowe's often and they did not have her size available. The Depot did, but it was almost 5000 bucks. So from that point I went into save mode. I was told by Depot they could order just the one door. They then told me they could not. This after I told her they could. Still pricey but much less. By the way, I am not mad at the Depot. They were up front all the way. I still shop there. They have better pressure treated lumber. They also have better professional tools. So once I was told something and then had it changed I explained to her to get a window guy which I learned after a little research was probably the best cost effective way to go. Nothing was damaged except the glass. We do not do the double pane with the gas type of repairs. There are guys who do right here on Angie's List.

Well first let me say that I have been reluctant to post a review, as I dislike confrontation. But I kept getting emails from Angie'sList to do the review and I have finally given up, because, frankly, I do have things to say. Joey came to the house and we talked at length about what I wanted done, and issues that I had had with previous Angie "A" list service providers. After looking over everything, Joey submitted an estimate that seemed very reasonable, with costs shown and a timeline included, which he said would take 1 week. I was thrilled, that I had found a business that seemed like they actually took pride in their work. Now here is where the trouble starts. I don't know where his team came from (although I suspect on some street corner somewhere). Most of them had truly no clue what they were doing. Problems that I encountered - moulding down the side of the door frame is missing, window sills are not painted (since it was already primed when purchase, I can only assume that the workers didn't know it had to be painted), so the window frame is semi-gloss and the sills are flat paint. The trim along the baseboard near the closet is just wrong, wrong, wrong. It looks like they ran out of trim and so decided to use a piece too small and cut improperly on the bevel - I can't explain it, but I have pictures. The trim used in the hallway window is very rough, wasn't smooth at all, and thus it looks like a mess. Paint was poorly applied and their are areas with no paint. And the hole in the ceiling that we were going to be putting a new light into - well, we had asked to have that hole cut properly so we could hang that fan/light fixture when it arrived. But although they cut a hole, it was not properly cut (it really wasn't even square) and my husband (who has vision issues) had to slowly carve away the extra sheetrock. Of particular irritation and concern on my part, someone left the closet door open a bit and the closet was filled with sheetrock dust. I have had to clean every single thing in that closet. All of this took 3 weeks, not the 1 week as quoted. And last but not least, someone stole my 14kt. gold hoop earrings that were in a small dish in the bathroom. Truthfully, Joey knows what he is doing and is very personable but I think he needs better workers. I do not know if he still has the same team now.
Description of Work: Joey and his team were hired to remodel our small master bedroom. included was the (possible) need for new wiring, insulation (it is an older house and were not sure what we would find behind the plaster walls. The walls needed to be taken down because of multiple cracks. New windows were needed because we still had the original windows. We also requested that a new door was put in for the 3rd floor walk-up attic.

First let me address the issue of my crew. Last year we were growing and found it a very difficult job to find guys who would actually show up to work let alone know what they claimed. Just finding guys who can talk with cursing was a big problem. We get guys from trade schools, job sites and even referrals. Yet we won the SSA in 8 different categories. And the crew we now have been together for 8 months and we are all on the same page. She came off as a sweet lady and was downstairs every day with the little doggies the entire time. They checked things out every day though out the renovation. We spoke every morning and every evening. I never thought of her as anything but a nice person. But she is definitely forgetting quite a bit. Whether intentional or not I do not know. But here are the facts. The walls were framed as most older circa 1900-1930 homes. The furniture had to be moved and returned every day so they could have the upstairs. We had to add studs so we could hang the drywall. There were no bottom plates which are required by code for fire stoppage. We had to install plastic every day before we could start due to lead in the molding until it was all removed. They wanted the electrical upgraded and a ceiling box installed. The trim was an old type that they simply do not make any more. A fact that seemed to not be believed. There were a few add-ons as we worked in the home. There was a hall that was renovated, 2 ceilings with upgrades to the electrical boxes, quirky and rounded angles that make the Victorian houses so cool, 2 window replacements with repairs and proper flashing on both, insulating to code, caulking and painting different area, capping the windows outside to match existing, the replication of molding, 2 door installs and reframing of other items. There were also many requests for various odd jobs here and there thru out the house like staining and installing the trim in the living room area and things we saw that we just fixed cause that's what we do. Most folks appreciate the little things we do. As for the guys being unskilled labor. If you do not have an SSN you do not work here. Every team has 2 guys. On this gig I had 2 crews many times to get things done quickly as she kept adding things as we went at no additional cost. A fact that she never mentions. Guess she forgot that too. The accusation of stealing seems to go in line with her opinion of the guys. If this happened why is this review the first time I am hearing of it. Why did she never mention it to me. I spoke to her and played with the doggies every morning before we started to see what she had added and every day when we left to play with the little doggies. I visited on Fridays to get the bill done and it was just me and her and she never mentioned it. We were in her home for 3 weeks and she never mentioned it.

Dixie was scheduled to provide services in our home during the week of June 29 for the week. We put in for leave so that we could be at the house when then arrive. Unfortunately, severe storms hit the area that prior week and a lot of people were out of their respective homes and was without power. I Began calling and texting Dixie the ENTIRE weekend for confirmation of the time of their arrival on Monday. I received a response late Sunday evening saying they would RESCHEDULE. How unprofessional and inconsiderate. Their excuse was that people were in need of assistance with their homes and they wanted to help. I guess it never occurred to them that we were also in need of assistance. The fact was they chased money for what they thought were bigger jobs and left us out to dry.

This is one of the 10% I often speak of. We do an estimate. We agree to 3 days or less of work. From that point he did email a lot. But not to see about his appointment. It was to find ways to cut corners. We do not cut corners. We have to warrant the work we do. If we are not doing it right we are not doing it. We also had a severe storm that knocked over trees and killed power to a lot of people. We got quite a few call from folks with emergencies. We say it every time we schedule someone. We will be here as set UNLESS we get an emergency call. The weekend prior was such an occurrence. I believe things happen for a reason. We helped a lot of folks save a lot of money because our rates do not change after an emergency. An judging by the grade and his response we made the right choice.

Joey and team were a refreshing find (via Angie's List) as the first contractors we've used for our new house. They arrived promptly for the original estimate visit and actual work. Joey gave updates on the work and any minor issues that caused slight delays throughout the process. This is an old house so any and all work is likely going to run into issues. Joey had appropriate workarounds for each of them and had our new stove installed as if the kitchen was built around it. Given their approach to work (pay by hour for almost any work) and the results I saw with this job, we'll be coming back for them for the next couple of years as we work through our dream home ToDo list.

He had a slider range and wanted a regular stand up one. That meant removing the front of the cabinets. Then the fun started. The set up for the gas and electric were in front of a joist and we do not cut joist. So the fun was in moving everything to the small area that the manufacturer wanted the stuff to be without doing any structural damage. We got it done and thanks to the Lowe's, we were able to get the parts needed to help make the job go smooth.
It was very good. I certainly have no complaints, and would recommend them to others. Due to my schedule, they had to come back to finish some of the work (which I then had to cancel and reschedule). They did not give me a hard time at all about cancelling, and they picked up right where they left off. **UPDATE** They had recently had to come back to do a repair on the bathroom floor where the mortar/grout did not hold. They came out quickly and did not charge me anything, since it was all under warranty. I even had them install a new microwave and fluorescent light ballast, and they threw those in free for the inconvenience.***
Description of Work: I used the Big Deal for Dixie Total Home Maintenance. They tore out the basement carpet, and replaced with vinyl tile. They removed carpet from the basement steps, and sanded and stained them. They replaced the tile in a bathroom, and vented the exhaust fans in both bathrooms. They painted 5-6 rooms and the trim throughout the house.

Good communication, every time I contacted Dixie they responded in a timely manner. They did a very good job repairing water damage to 4 rooms downstairs due to frozen pipes. I had to wait a while because they were booked, but when I was scheduled they came right on time and devoted 3 days to my job, no jumping around to other jobs as some contractors do. I remolded almost my entire house and have delt with alot of contractors, they were very professional, showed up on time, and got the job done, they even repaired a bad screen on my slider without me asking and no charge for the materials just because it needed to be done, saving me a trip to the hardware store. I would recommend them to anyone needing a super duty handyman service that can do anything you need, not just limited to 1 specific trade.I would use them again in the future if the need arises.

When we got there he seemed like a guy who had been let down in the past. We got his list and went to town. It was a very wide-ranging list, but nothing we could not handle. Upon his return, he must have been happy with what he saw. We had him set for three days and he got his whole list done. And no, we do not jump around. We try to set up the total days you and we think it should take. Then we book that and a day just in case we run into something unforeseen. He was happy and said he would leave a review. We appreciate the kind words and hope to hear from him again. And the screen is just something we do. If we see something we can fix pretty quickly and have the stuff to do it, we just do it. It's what we are all about. Helping you love your house again.
II am so impressed. I can't believe how well it went. They were prompt and spot on ready to work. I had added a bunch of things I wanted done and they were able to finish everything without forewarning about what tools they would need. They seemed prepared to fix anything. Over and above that, I got all sorts of maintenance and purchasing advice which later proved really helpful and money saving. I can't recommend Dixie more highly.
Description of Work: So many things, large and small. Installed tile in bathroom, vanity countertop with sink, sheet-rocked bathroom walls & painted, installed hinges on kitchen cabinets, door sills x4, rug installation, storm window fabrication, meticulous cabinet painting.

She is so sweet and a very awesome Angie's army member. She gave us a list and had pretty much everything ready and let us get to work. She only came down once in a while to ask if we needed anything. As we went thru the list she would ask if we could do something else. Of course. We are here for the allotted time. If we get the big things done, by all means give us the little ones. We are here for the allotted time. The price doesn't go up if we get done in the time and you got some extra things done. Believe it or not, that's our goal is to give you a little more than expected.

Joey and his team showed up early, took care of everything in less time than was estimated and got the job done right on budget. I can't recommend his team more, they did a great job and were consummate professionals.

This is how we work with you. 1 He messaged me thru the message center and we set up and estimate 2 When I got there he showed what he wanted to get done and added some things if we had time 3 We figured 4 days 4 We got the big project done in 3 and also got in a kitchen for Mom and a radiator cover / table for two This was a great job for a great guy. We really enjoyed the time we spent in their home and I really enjoyed creating the cover/table. Got to use some skills I wish I could use more often.

I have had Joey and his crew come up to the house a couple of times now. The first time I had purchased a deal from Angie's List for a half-day of handyman services. I knew it would probably take longer than a few hours to get everything done, so I booked them for a whole day, which was of no problem for Joey. The crew was comprised of Joey, Joe and Ryan. They were able to get everything on my initial list done and a few other things I had on the, "reserve" list! If I can remember all that was done, they had demo'd some gaudy Greek columns in the family room, patched holes in walls from where speakers were in two rooms, removed a carpet runner from stairs, removed an in-wall cabinet and added and patched drywall, reversed doors on washer and dryer, switched out a light fixture, sorted through and removed a bunch of unnecessary communication wires in the basement, and a few other things. They really are hard-working and efficient. I truly got a steal-of-a-deal with the Angie's List deal and even with their regular-priced hours. Two months later (just this past week), I had scheduled them for three days. I had another long list of things to get done. It was Joe and a new guy named Larry on the first day, and then Ryan and Joe on the second and third days. They power-washed our patio, repainted and cleaned our post and pier lights and straightened out the ones that needed to be straightened, cleaned/repaired/primed/painted a trellis fence, removed speakers from ceiling then patched, painted the kitchen, replaced the patio door screen, and hung an address plaque. They were able to get most of everything on the list completed in the three days except the fence and the trim in the kitchen. I told them that I would finish the trim since it was time-consuming and they are actually coming back (on their own time) to finish painting the darn fence that everyone underestimated! Joey even came up for a couple hours on one day to help try and finish. While he was here, he noticed that some of our front steps were loose and offered to fix them as it is a safety hazard. The recent rain has put a damper on the plans to finish these things but I know they will be completed as soon as the weather permits. All in all, Dixie is great to get your honey-do list out of the way quickly. I would try and ask Joey for an estimate for a fairly large paint job as the hourly rate can really add up otherwise. I would also recommend doing as much of the prep work for painting as you can on your own, such as cleaning the walls and trim from dirt and taping the edges for protection since they do not do that before they paint. On another note, the fence they are almost finished painting looks amazing! I wish I had before/after pictures to post. DixieTHM is a group of hard-working guys who take their jobs very seriously and have a strong work ethic. They also go above and beyond to do a good job, remedy a situation and meet their clients' expectations. Also, I had seen a few negative reviews about not getting back in touch with someone for an estimate. I can say I haven't had a problem with Joey's response time. If for some reason you don't hear back within the time frame you want, then either call or send another email. Simple as that. I will gladly call Dixie back for my next list!
Description of Work: Items on the honey-do list.

A great Angie's army member who gets it. She has everything ready and is always there when we need her input. She likes things a certain way and we want to be sure she gets it how she wants it. You will often hear me say I do not have to look at it when I leave. So please be sure you are happy. Our sprayer did not perform as expected so we had to paint by hand. This was not the customers fault. Hence the free day. If we can not do the job quickly due to our equipment, we are not going to penalize you. On a side note, we never tape. We are pros. Pros don't need to tape. We can cut in and change colors on the fly. When you have a lot of stuff, IE the kitchen cabinets, there is a large amount of cut work that must be done. This takes time. Imagine how much longer it would take if we taped everything.
