AC tune up and check
Description of Work: Bovio provided me an incomplete checklist after the work was done even though the service I paid for clearly said they would test and record certain values- but all test values were left blank on the final checklist. I specifically mentioned to Bovio and the technician that I needed these numbers. Since receiving the incomplete checklist, I have reached out to Bovio several times and have been ignored. For $400+, the fact that they can’t provide a completed checklist according to their own service description and then won’t answer my calls or emails is just terrible.

We got our system while they were running all kinds of rebates so we got an outstanding system for the price of a run-of-the-mill system. We wouldn’t have known that if they hadn’t told us. I would highly recommend their service. The venting system had to be changed so it was a little more work than your average system installation.

Let me start by saying that I considered myself a regular customer of Rubino. I've had them completely replace an AC system and I had just recently used them for a heater start up service. I was in need of a new hot water heater. I started to shop around and called a couple of other places I was familiar with. I was specific in my request for a TTW (through the wall) unit and asked for pricing of both 40 and 50 gallon models. All of these dealers supplied Bradford White and I asked all of them to confirm the model numbers so I knew that I was comparing the same. When I called Rubino their price was less than the others so I decided to go with them. I scheduled the install date. A few days later I was called and told that they had to move my appointment due to a company emergency, I rolled with it. Installer came out on 12/1 late in the install window. Nice gut, very professional attitude. He inspected the existing heater and then told me he had the wrong heater on the truck. It turns out they quoted me a price for the wrong model yet told me this was the model I was getting for the price. A call is made and of course it's more money! At this point what am I going to do when I need the heater? It felt like bait and switch!! Another guy brings the heater out and the install starts... The installer starts the job and then he asks me for a bucket and paper towels or a rag. A Plumber without this? Bad start. He continues and begins to struggle with the soldering of the pipes. I can tell he's frustrated and it's starting to take more time than it should. He has issues he can't resolve and asks me for a piece of bread to sop up water in the pipe. I know I?m in trouble, thankfully I have no bread so he states he's heading to Depot to get something. Next he calls another plumber on the team and after some time the master plumber comes out, the first guy leaves. Master Plumber is a really nice guy. The Master spots the issue, shakes his head and in a matter of minutes the job is back on track. He states that the other plumber was not equipped or skilled enough for the job and this could have easily been corrected. Job finishes, $1800 paid and I have a working water heater. Overall a poor install experience. Being very unhappy with this service I call Rubino, explained my concerns and ask that I speak to the service Manager. I'm connected to Ron but only get his voicemail. I left a calm, detailed explanation of my experience, noting my history with the company and expressed my concerns and questioned whether I would ever use their services again. I assumed that a company could always use the work and that my call would be returned and we could discuss the install and maybe, just maybe they would compensate or credit me for this botched job but I NEVER RECEIVED A CALL BACK!! Why no call back Ron? It?s unbelievable that this is the model they operate with at any time and especially in this economy. I guess they're making so much money they don?t need my business. Hutchinson HVAC/Plumbing should thank them! On another note... prior to this install I had Rubino in for an estimate on an all new HVAC and Energy audit/improvement. I decided to wait it out another year but intended on using Rubino when the time came. The guy that came out was very nice (Doug?) and followed up with me post water heater install, probably 2 weeks after. I briefly explained my disappointment and made it a point to tell him how unprofessional it was for Ron not to call me back. In a nutshell, I told him that they probably lost a customer forever.

Response from Bovio Rubino Service
The customer sent the owner the same email as this posting. The owner responded back and the customer responded with "Thank you for the reply. I appreciate you following up with your team on this matter. My 14 years as an Officer for a service centric bank has taught me many times the importance of customer service and it’s apparent that you believe in quality customer service and striving for improvement. It is fair to say that I’ve had very good service from Rubino for all of my HVAC requests. The Tech that came out recently to check my heater was very skilled and professional. I’d like to reiterate that the plumping Tech that came out for the water heater was a very nice guy and very courteous. John was the same and a very skilled plumber. I was pleased with John’s ability to quickly complete the troubled install. I’d like to clarify that I was not in any way disappointed with Greg or his follow up. I did vent a bit when I spoke to Greg and he was apologetic. Thank you for the offer of a $50 service credit, I will gratefully accept that for future HVAC service." The email that was sent to the customer is detailed below:" I am very unhappy that you had a poor service experience. I looked a little further into the issues you listed below and will address them each below. 1. I do not know what the conversation was between you and the office regarding quoting the water heater. If you told her exactly what you had then the correct quote should have been given. If you were not sure what you had in your home then we wouldn’t be able to provide a proper quote. I assure you we do not bait and switch!!! That is not our policy nor the moral standards I live by or run the company by. If at any time you did not want us to install the water heater we would have walked away without pressure. We recently had a company meeting between the plumber and the office staff to make sure that they understand the correct questions to ask the homeowners on the phone when quoting a water heater. This will eliminate that from occurring in the future with you or any other customers not quoting the correct work. 2. The reason that the first technician had an issue with the water stopping leaking is that you had a leaky valve which is not something that occurs on normal water heater installs. He did need to call in the master plumber John to use his special tools that he carries to correct this and continue the install. While I understand your frustration with the 1st technician, it really wasn’t his fault or something that he could control since he didn’t have the jet sweat and the sodder tool that was needed to stop the leaky valve. I am happy that John was able to correctly install the water heater and he is very good at what he does so I am confident that he performed the job correctly. 3. Regarding your call into the service manager Ron. The receptionist should not have transferred you to Ron. Ron is the manager of the HVAC side of the business. Your call should have been either transferred to myself or the master plumber. However your call was transferred to Ron and since it did not belong to his department his responsibility is to either call you back and make you aware of who you should be talking to or transfer the message to the appropriate person. Neither of which he did. That behavior is unacceptable and Ron has been written up for it and has been coached on how I want my customer handled. I assure you he will not do that again. 4. Regarding the estimate, your estimate was performed by Greg in September. He did follow up with you in December however he was on vacation the last week of December and was out of the office for 2 weeks ill. I spoke to Greg last week about his outstanding leads and we did discuss you. The message that was delivered back to me was that you were upset about the water heater install. Other than that, I was told nothing. I investigated further and spoke to the plumber about the job and he said it was installed and when he left he remembered you were happy with the work. I then spoke to the plumbing dispatcher and asked if she recalled you calling in and leaving a message for me or John regarding the service and she did not. I had no idea that you were upset about Ron. I never checked with Ron regarding the service call since he is not responsible for that department. At that point I left it alone because I had no idea what the real issue was. So if you feel that I should have called after you had spoken to Greg, I apologize. I was not delivered the message you had intended to be delivered.

We were very confident in using the company after meeting MaryEllen and Joe. All the paperwork was taken care of for the clean energy loan and the rebates. The workers showed up on time and were very courteous. We were very happy with the work that was done. It wasn't until 2 days later we realized that our bedroom carpet was wet. This was Saturday morning. We called and someone came out and found that the hot water heater pipe was not tightened. The pipe was fixed and we were told that this would be reported. Monday morning I expected a call but we were the one's that called and found out that our problem was not reported. Rubino sent out Servpro to clean up. They emptied our closet floor ripped up the carpet and cut out the carpet pad. They left us with 4 fans to dry out the carpet that we had to suffer through for that day and throughout the night. It was like sleeping on a runway. Anyway servpro came back and said our carpet was dry, took the fans and left. Left us with the carpet pulled up, the baseboards removed and damaged and no carpet padding. We are talking one week before Christmas. Again we had to call. They did send someone out who replaced the missing carpet pad and put the baseboards back. But we still have the cut carpet and damage to suede boots. All of this overshadows any of the good work that was done. What is important is the customer service and this is truly missing here. They are so nonchalant as though they did what they could and that's it. We are truly disappointed in treatment that we received after the work was done. It's very hard to give out ratings. All the work seemed to be top notch except for the plumber and we understand things do happen. It would have been nice if someone felt our pain. As far as using them again, my husband says yes but not for a while. **UPDATE** We are very happy with the heating system. The hot water heater was a headache. Again, customer service is everything. Even mistakes can be smoothed over with a little caring and concern.
Description of Work: We had a new hot water heater and a heating and a/c system installed. In order to qualify for the clean energy program, we also had insulation added. **UPDATE** Rubino submitted a response and I do not feel it is correct. First of all they did not know until we called on Monday that their service guy was out on Saturday to fix the hot water heater. Then they called ServPro. As for speaking to our son, yes I understand what their saying but a one word answer should have given them a clue as to who they were talking to. Lastly they make it sound as though we have free filters for life. They are giving us one free filter. I am just disappointed in this whole process. The concept of your site is great, however if the provider is allowed to bend the truth, it really causes a lot of frustration and I don't believe you get an accurate account.

Response from Bovio Rubino Service
Just as a clarification, the problem of the water damage was reported and even though the customer called the office Monday morning, Rubino had already contacted ServPro on their behalf to go out and clean the mess. After ServPro was finished the work, the owner Angela called immediately and left a message asking if they were satisfied with the work. The answer I received back was yes. However the person i was speaking to on the phone was the son not the homeowner. The son did not identify himself as not the homeowner so I assumed everything was fine. The customer called later that day and expressed to me his dissatisfaction with the work that performed by ServPro. Rubino sent out the next day someone to correct for them the listed baseboard and carpet. Rubino also offered free filters for their units for the next year to compensate. Therefore while Rubino understands and emphasizes with the customer's dissatisfaction with the leaking tank, Rubino was not nonchalant about it and did everything we needed to in order to correct.

The gentleman that came out to give me the estimate was great. He was very professional and explained everything. Everybody that came out to do the work was very professional. We are not very happy with the result. It doesn't cool the entire house down. One bedroom in particular stays very warm. I told them about this issue beforehand and they are now asking for more money to fix it. Prior to this new installation they had been very good at service on our old unit. That is why we chose them for the install.

. They are excellent. I got referred to them through the South Jersey Gas because they are the authorized provider and they have the certification to do it through the State of New Jersey. . They run one of the programmes in conjunction with the State of New Jersey. They gave me a number referrals and I just picked this particular place because the way it worked. I picked one of their providers. I did not have to pay for the energy audit. They happened to be very nice people. It is family owned people. They are very good. Since it is family owned Mr. Bovio has his sons working for him and they are pretty tight and everybody works well with one another. They are pretty knowledgeable. Mr Bovio’s son Brian Bovio does all the energy auditing. He is college educated and he has been through all these programmes to do these energy audits. My particular cost is $11,000. However the cost of the system was much more and the State subsided part of the cost. My total outlay was $11000. It was a conversion from oil heat to gas heat and central air. They are very attentive. I had to call them for a problem ones as it was being installed and they came right away. Since they know that the State has subsidised they charge a higher price. I would use them in the future.

They made sure everything was the way it was supposed to be and checked everything once they were done. I was able to get the government’s tax credit for this and my energy bills are now half what they were. They were very neat about themselves, I couldn’t have asked for a better group of guys. They were very pleasant and explained everything they were doing. I have no complaints.

Overall we are very happy with the end result and were very impressed and pleased with Rubino's attentiveness and professionalism from our first meeting to the final walk-through. The installation was clean and professionally done and included some new outside penetrations. We had other prices that were lower, but when you combined the tax incentives, rebates, etc. with the overall sense of comfort we got by dealing with Rubino (Maryellen, especially) - it just made sense to go with them. Another reason we went with them is because they have been servicing our old equipment for years and they are always punctual and professional and they will be servicing the new equipment, too.

The initial meetings went fairly well, as did the contracts, delivery, workmanship, and installation. My problem was in getting them to submit my $800 in rebates and paperwork for the extended service contract which I paid for. I was told these things could take several months, but I assumed that the delay would be from the people processing rebates and NOT because Bovio's didn't submit them, even though I called often and was given promises and much incorrect information. They deny this, but their office staff (mostly the owner's wife) admits she does not have enough time in the day to get things done, and I have detailed notes of every call. She even hung up on me once! Nothing happened until I entered a complaint to the BBB after finding they had about 50 backlogged rebates, THEN things got done. I've been waiting for money 7 months now. I wish I had room for more details. My feeling is if anything happens to their (one) main office worker, this company is in serious trouble.
