Description of Work: None.. will not do it again. The Guys do not what to speak, lack of knowledge, extremely Rude!!! Please do not go again!! Every time you ask something they will assume and speak rudely.. please do not ever hire them again!!1
First they gutted the bathroom, and to avoid a mess in the rest of the house, rigged up a chute from the bedroom window to the dump truck below. That took less than a day. Then they tiled the floor and shower area. Next the cabinets were installed. This is a big bathroom so there were a lot of cabinets, including a custom corner upper cabinets with hidden lights over the two sinks. Then new shower doors were installed, and I have a gorgeous bathroom!
Description of Work: Completely gutted and renovated 2nd floor master bath: new ceramic tile floor and shower, all new cabinets, granite countertops.
The majority of the work was done while I was in Fla.! It was so nice to miss the mess, and come home to a new house! Frank is the best, always has great ideas, and his experience and expertise are invaluable when doing a job of this size. Together we planned the job completely before I left for Fla. He was in contact with me every day with updates, so I was always aware of any problems (there really weren't any) or questions that I needed to answer. While their prices are not always the cheapest, the Economy in their name comes from the fact that you get the most for your money with them.
Description of Work: Completely gutted kitchen, broke through wall into dining room, installed all new cabinets, counter tops, appliances, new tile work around fireplace. Also gave me the name of a flooring contractor who installed wood flooring throughout the first floor.
They removed the old floor and toilet. I was planning on keeping the existing vanity, so they carefully removed it. Next they installed new ceramic tile floor and grouted. Then reinstalled my vanity, installed granite counter top and sink, new toilet, and shower doors. All this was done in just three days! The bathroom looks like new! The tub and tile around the tub was never really used, so I kept it.
Description of Work: Renovated existing bathroom, new ceramic tile floor, counter top, glass shower doors.

Very professional and knowledgeable but expensive -- went with another contractor because of price and time it would take.
Description of Work: Got a price of $11,000 + price of tile. I'm sure this was high end stuff -- but didn't need high end stuff. This was on the way high end of other contractors -- $8500.00 (everything included) for the same job. Also concerned me was the time it would take to complete the project, 2 - 2.5 weeks for a small bathroom (contractor I chose would complete in 1 week).

Response from EKB Kitchen & Bath Remodelers
I appreciate the reveiw, but the member failed to mention that our company does work according to NJ.Uniform Construction Code, which requires us to pull permits and do the bathroom work accordingly. This process alone can take a weeks time between the inspection process.Obviously the member was more interested in getting a quick slap it in job, rather than quality and by the book job.I explained the whole process to the member, and the timeline. He should of told me his timeline and i would not have bid the job,and get a C price rating. He is not comparing Licensed contractors work to mine.I too can do a bathroom for a lower price if i didnt include Quality materials and workmanship.Again i appreciate the positive point of veiw, but the member is not comparing apples to apples. Why go to Angies List if dont want a Quality Job and workmanship.I would apprciate if you can either print this response for other members to review,or remove the C Price rating and the description of work reponse from our report, since this member is inaccurate,or the whole report.Last note,i am sure he is not using a Angies List Contractor.

We recently moved into a new house and the kitchen needed a lot of work - water damage in the floor, broken appliances, very dated - so we decided on a full kitchen remodel. Economy Kitchen and Bath were great through the whole process, they had great ideas for a new design, including removing the wall between the kitchen and dining room and rearranging the layout of the appliances. They had a wide enough selection of choices in cabinets/countertops that we didn't feel at all limited. They were always on time, considerate and helpful, communicated very well and kept us informed each step of the way, easy to get a hold of by phone, they cleaned up after each day, and the work was done with quality. Overall we are very happy with our new kitchen and highly recommend Economy!
Description of Work: Total kitchen remodel on 10x12 kitchen. Gutted kitchen down to the studs, removed wall separating kitchen and dining room, replaced sub-flooring (water damage). Moved plumbing, electrical and gas lines for new kitchen layout, installed new vent to outside for over-the-range vent. Installed new cabinets, countertops, new peninsula, backsplash, flooring and lighting.
Overall, the work was excellent from start to finish. Several months ago, the company renovated the kitchen and master bathroom. I said in my report that I would use them again and would recommend them to others. I didn't think that I would be using them so soon though!. Unfortunately, the March 2010 rainstorms caused water damage to my basement, including the one-half bathroom that was built in 1971 and repainted/wallpapered in late 2007. After the water damage was assessed, I called Jay, told him what happened and asked him over to take a look at the basement bathroom. Jay not only gave his thoughts on the bathroom, but provided insights and advice on taking care of the damaged basement, most of which have been implemented (including a French drain) by another company. After the French drain was installed, Jay came back in April and we focused on the bathroom design. Because I had gone through the renovation process with Jay a few months earlier, the design process was very easy and smooth. With Jay's assistance, I selected the new commode, vanity (same as upstairs, except I chose Marblux for the counter/sink) and medicine cabinet. I selected the ceramic tile for the floor, as well as the light sconces, towel bar/ring/door hook and toilet paper dispenser. All were installed by the company, including the drywall, door and frame, ceiling, molding and exhaust fan. The new bathroom looks great - more expansive, modern and clean looking! I'm very happy. Jay, as usual, did great. Working with him is a pleasure. We signed the contract on 4/29/10. Installation start date was projected to be in 6-8 weeks, between 6/15 and 6/30, and the job would take 1 - 2 weeks to complete. Well, work actually began on Wednesday 6/16 -only 1 day later than the earliest projected start date - and wrapped up on Friday 6/25 (7 workdays). very impressive! Alex also did a great job in communicating the work schedule. He called in advance to let me know what was going to happen the first week (6/16, 6/17 and 6/18), as well as the schedule for the 2nd week. Everything went smoothly; everyone came when they were supposed to. Chris and his partner, Domingo, also did a terrific job. They were very professional, polite, courteous and quiet, and always asked my permission to come upstairs and to use the upstairs bathroom. Also, they cleaned up the area daily and removed their trash. There were 3 modest glitches and don'ts, however: (1) When Jay first measured the bathroom, he advised that it was approximately 6" short of code (not enough space between the back and front walls). Jay stated that we would have to move the front wall out at least 6" to bring the room up to code, but it would be even better if we could move the front wall out 9". I told Jay I would think about it, and after thinking, agreed to make it 9". However, when the front walls were installed, they provided roughly 7" of additional space, not 9". I would have preferred 9" of additional space, but at least the bathroom now has 7" more space than before. (Once again though, as in other areas of life, I wind up with less than 9".) Jay and Chris explained that 9" would jut out too much and somewhat block the nearby laundry area. (2) When the kitchen and upstairs bathroom were renovated, the same type and size chrome handles were put on all cabinets and drawers, including the bathroom vanity doors. When meeting with Jay, to make it easy and uniform, I asked for the same chrome handles on the vanity doors, which is what the contract specified. However, chrome knobs were installed on the last day of work, not chrome handles. After thinking about it, however, I liked how the chrome knobs looked with the other bath items and finishings, and decided to retain the knobs. (3) When installing the drywall to the outside of the bathroom, the workers splattered part of the adjoining painted wall with white paste/primer. Because of that, the adjoining wall will now have to be repainted, which I wished to avoid. They should have been more careful applying the stuff.
Description of Work: Replacing/renovating the existing one-half bathroom in basement that had been damaged by water during the March 2010 rain storms. Services involved installing new drywall, ceiling, ceramic floor tile, door and frame, molding, exhaust fan, commode, vanity, medicine cabinet, sconces, towel bar/ring/door hook and toilet paper dispenser.

Tom was great to work with. He was knowledgeable and had a positive attitude. Out of the 10 contractors we met with, Tom's estimate was the 2nd lowest. In the end, we went with the lowest bidder because we have previous experience working with them. However, I would not hesitate to recommend Tom to anyone. We have a very high level of confidence in him.

Overall, the renovations were very good. I would definitely use them again and will recommend them to others. They are very professional and experts in kitchen and bathroom renovations, with excellent knowledge of products and issues homeowers confront. However, the rush to do things quickly, make the sale, complete the job and go on to other endeavors also means that details get lost or are inadvertently overlooked. The entire renovation process could have gone smoother. But they are responsive and resolved all issues and concerns that have been brought to their attention to date. The actual work began on 11/3/09 (only one day later than the projected start date when the contract was signed in early September 2009) and was completed on 1/26/10 when the building inspector signed off on the work. However, the bulk of the renovations were completed by 12/24/09 (which was within the promised 8 -10 week time frame projected for completion), but it took another 4 weeks until the 3rd week of January 2010 to complete approximately a half day of additional work due to "glitches" (e.g., lack of handles for cabinets & drawers, re-doing the overlay border between the dining room floor and kitchen floor to proper height, slope and width, and connecting the water line to the refrigerator for the ice maker and water dispenser). There appeared to be no sense of urgency to complete these final tasks. In addition, minor corrective work occurred in early February 2010 to fix two cabinet shelves - adjusting the length of one shelf to fit properly in its setting, and replacing a second shelf over the sink due to the appearance of natural wood markings, discoloration and indentations when all other laminated shelves were clean and uniform in appearance; that second shelf replaced a prior laminated shelf that was inaccurately measured and left a gap around the "box" built to enclose the water pipes at the back of the cabinet. And a replacement glass shelf for a cracked one in the bathroom medicine cabinet was ordered and replaced promptly. The proverbial glitches occurred (e.g., lack of cabinet and drawer handles, inaccurate pre-measurement of several shelves over the sink that did not fit close to the "box" enclosing the water pipes at the back of the cabinet, a cracked middle bathroom medicine cabinet shelf that was inserted and not brought to my attention, and minor scratches and gouges on the outside of some cabinets and doors). I do want to note favorably that all glitches and problems involved in the renovation and brought to the attention of the company were quickly and ultimately resolved to my satisfaction. Jay was very helpful and knowledgable in the planning and selection of the kitchen and bathroom components. This was the best and easiest part of the entire project. The bathroom was small so only one layout option was needed, but he provided 3 schematics of layout options for the kitchen. Jay guided me in the selection of the kitchen cabinet wood, style and color, and the accessories, such as the lighting, sink, faucet and soap dispenser. In the bathroom, he guided me in the selection of the bathtub, shower enclosure, commode, vanity, medicine cabinet, lighting, shower head and faucet. The design and selection process went by very smoothly and quickly. My only unfavorable comment regarding the design and selection phase is that the location and number of the kitchen cabinets and drawers should have been specified clearly on the schematics - I wound up with more lower drawers and fewer lower cabinets than I would have preferred. This was because the schematics were pencil marked with "price/unit/ordering codes" for pricing/ordering purposes rather than stating which ones were cabinets and drawers. Alex was primarily responsible for communication once the renovations began. Communication was best at the beginning of the project, particularly the gutting phase to see what initial corrective work was needed once the walls, ceilings and floors were removed. However, as the project continued and subcontractors were used, communication became less frequent and in many cases inaccurate information was conveyed to me. For example, inaccurate notification of the person coming, the service to be performed and the date and time. In one case, a worker expected to be there in thee morning called out sick, and I was not notified he was not coming until late in the afternoon. I dislike waiting around for someone to come who ultimately does not show up or arrives much later than expected. The communication process and flow of accurate information must be improved. Furthermore, there needs to be more frequent and regular oversight visits by the owners. I do not expect an owner to be on-site daily, but there needs to be regular and continuous visits to determine how work is progressing, note issues that arise and address them. Although Jay and Alex came to the home at various times to see how work was proceeding, the visits became more infrequent as the renovations progressed and subcontractors used. There should be better oversight especially when subcontractors are on the premises to prevent "cutting corners" and to make sure everything promised is being done accurately. For example, the electrician and drywall subcontractors did not fully clean up; I didn't discover until later that some workers used my basement sump pump for garbage disposal; and a worker unintentionally broke my toilet seat in the unrenovated basement bathroom. And the cabinet installer worked only one day on the project - the day before Thanksgiving - from 9am to almost 9pm on one of the most important jobs: installing the kitchen cabinets; at 8pm he asked if I knew what size handles to use because he was unaware of which ones to use and he had handles of 2 different sizes - it's not something that I knew and it was too late on a long holiday weekend for him to check and obtain the correct answer. He guessed - luckily he guessed right - but should he have been working that day or that late on such an important piece of the renovation with no one to turn to for guidance and supervision? I have to be honest: "Economy" Kitchens & Baths is a misnomer. The company is approximately 20% more expensive than comparable companies. Although they specialize in kitchens and bathrooms, for the price charged I would wish more attention would be paid to detail. Quite frankly, some of the accessories, such as the kitchen sink faucet and soap dispenser, and bathroom towel bar, towel ring and toilet paper dispenser, look and feel cheap and chintzy. like they were made in China and sold in Home Depot - those items were not top of the line or even near it, and seem out-of-place in an almost $50,000 renovated kitchen and bathroom. Also, the company neglects the little touches and things that would make a difference, such as simply putting wood putty over exposed nails and staples to cover them. Overall, I am very happy with the final result of the renovations. Almost everyone who has come into my home and has seen my new kitchen and bathroom has been impressed with the design, style and quality of the work and has given compliments on a beautiful job. That makes me feel good and reinforces my selection of this company to undertake the renovations.
Description of Work: Kitchen and bathroom renovations. Completely gutted those rooms and fully renovated them. Kitchen was last renovated in 1970; bathroom was last renovated in 1970, although original floor tile and wall tile from when the house was built in 1951 were left untouched until the recent renovation.

He managed to work them in and stay reasonably close to budget. I am happy with what they will be providing me with.

The workers were lovely to have in the house. They were polite, they were cooperative and very considerate. One of the workers, who had slightly more experience than the others did very very good work. The others were good. He had a bit of an edge over them because he had that experience. They were all totally trustworthy. They were very willing to answer my questions as they were doing things. The inevitable problems that always arise on jobs were corrected willingly. Ours was a more complex job; it was rather large. The bathroom looks quite stunning. Pictures are available through Economy Kitchens. I would have them back. They worked well with me.
Description of Work: They did two bathrooms and opened up a poorly accessible storage space behind a bath, They converted it into a closet. They put in 4 new windows and 2 new doors. They made the shower bigger and put in new mirrored bathroom cabinets. They put in new lights; extra high hats and modern lights over the bathroom cabinets and new base cabinets and style stone counter tops.

Project flowed seamlessly. Once started they finished according to schedule. Workers were very professional. Office staff were always very helpful.
Description of Work: Complete gut and rebuild of our master bathroom. It was original construction of 1956 vintage. Project include everything new, included soaking tub, separate and enlarged shower with clear glass enclosure, new vanity and all Italian ceramic tiling.
The owner was very helpful in creating a good work flow and providing ideas about changing the layout during the design process. Quality work was performed and when problems arose, as they inevitably do when dealing with an older house, owner was flexible in working with budget and providing solutions. The only negatives would be the communication with project manager, who seemed overwhelmed with other projects at times and caused delays in setting-up inspections. Some clarification needed as to deadlines for picking out details such as sink, faucet, handles etc. Project was supposed to take 8 - 10 weeks and took 12 weeks. Overall very happy with outcome of kitchen and bathroom.
Description of Work: Kitchen and bathroom of a 1925 house were gutted except for the walls. New electrical, flooring, ceiling, cabinets, countertops, and shower. Tiled shower added to a formerly 1/2 bathroom and toilet and sink relocated. Entire layout of the kitchen was changed including stove, refrigerator and dishwasher. Two doorways were relocated. Bathroom plumbing was brought up to code. Recessed lighting was added in the kitchen.
