We called BMSE to change out 4 electrical switches that ran ceiling fans with lights attached. Two out of the four were sparking so we wanted all four changed. The switches we had would turn the light on and off and had a slider to adjust the fan speed. We did have compact florescent bulbs in the lights. There was a miscommunication between the first gentleman who came who thought the lights on the fans were DIM-ABLE compact florescent bulbs. It turns out DIM-ABLE compacts need special hardware and it is way more expensive. Since he didn't have these special fixtures on his truck he put in temporary switches till he got what he thought were the correct ones. My mother paid $350 for four switches and labor, which I balked at after the fact. After he left the first time, we had the feeling that we were taken in. We still had the sparking issue going on in the original two switches and the switches were not the same as the ones he removed. Now the lights and the fans were on sliders so you change the fan speed and dim the lights So we called the owner, Brian, the next day and he came out to see the situation and to explain the breakdown of the $350. I did some research on CF bulbs and switches and figured out we didn't need the special dim-able switches since we didn't have the DIM-ABLE CF bulbs - just regular CF bulbs. Finally everyone was on the same page. Since we didn't like the switches he had, I went to Lowes and got four switches that were exactly like the original ones replaced. Brian installed the four switches and gave a refund of $180 for the dim-able switches. I do have to say that once we got over the initial miscommunication of the dim-able compact florescent bulb situation, everything did go smoothly. Brian was punctual, polite and did do good work. Very professional in my eyes.
