SCL Flooring

I called Steve to get an estimate for the work I want done on my floors. He called back promptly and tried to fit a visit but when he couldn't he would always call back and let me know when he can come. When he came and did an estimate, he gave me the best price amongst the other companies that I called to get estimates from. He also did a detailed explanation of the work he was going to do as well as gave suggestions when he felt that what we wanted done was not cost effective and not really necessary. He said the entire job will take about a week to ten days, but the job was actually finished in five days. He was there actually doing the work with his other workers, who were also very nice guys and did very good work. Steve was also very accomodating when I requested him to do something else aside from the work that he was supposed to do. He was a fun and friendly person to deal with and we had a few good laughs with him. My husband, who is a very hard person to please, was so happy with the floors. We also love his dog, Ashley, whom we miss coming to the house now that the work is done. We would definitely recommend Steve to anyone who needs woodfloors installed and refinished and I will have no second thoughts hiring him again if needed. If there was a rating higher than an "A", I will give him that.

Steve is the most passionate & knowledgable man you will ever meet regarding hardwood flooring. This hooked us immediately. We asked SCL to quote a job to install new hardwood in a great room where carpet previously was in place and to refinished hte res tof the hardwood to a darker color. And we needed it done quickly as we just bought this home and needed to get in fast. Steve responded well... He began work on the floors within a week from when we first met, and completed the project in five days leaving more than enough time to get the painter and carpet guys in. Bottom line, Steve is excellant to work with. Straight talker and did exactyl what he said he was going to do.

Thankfully Steve was the right guy for the job. The patch fix is perfect. It's impossible to tell where the old patch was. He spent a lot of time making sure the donor wood would match. An "after" picture wouldn't do his work justice, because you can't tell where the old floor stops and the patch starts. All of the trouble spots around the house were also fixed. It's nice to finally not have to worry about the floors. The basement stairs also look great. Working with SCL was a very positive experience. The quality of the work was excellent. Steve is very professional and takes pride in his work. I would definitely recommend SCL.

Got an estimate from Steve along with several others. Was impressed with his knowledge of the type of wood (mahogany) he would be working with. Deck needed to be sanded along with repairs to boards that were coming up. Completed the work in a day.

Steve's brother Brian and his crew re-finished our deck in Sparta, NJ and Steve re-finished our floors in June 2008. Both were great jobs, very professional and done in a timely manner. I recommend them and would use them again in the future.

I picked this vendor because of the great ratings and reputation for quality work he had with Angie's List and the videos he had on his website, but I just couldn't get pass his attitude when he estimated my job so I did not use this company. You don't go into a customer's house and one of the first things out of your mouth is how cheap (he thinks) the flooring and staircase is. That just turns a customer right off. This guy is definitely not humble about his Angie's List ratings. I dislike that type of bloviating in a vendor and moved on to a competitor with excellent end results on my flooring project. Sorry SCL.

Steve was able to correct almost all of the problem by adding screws from underneath the floor. The buckling is not as noticeable and the creaking is almost entirely gone (except for one tiny section which he could not access). Services were provided professionally, and only charged $175 for 2 hours work by Steve and a helper. Definitely addressed the issue in the most cost-effective manner -- other providers recommended replacing the entire floor at a much higher cost (several thousand $), or adding screws on top of the floor rather than from underneath and repair would have been much more noticeable. Steve told me in advance that he would not be able to completely fix it since the problem is with a structural beam. But he was able to fix about 95% of it. Very happy with the result and would definitely use Steve for any future repairs or refinishing.

He is excellent. He was unbelievable. He did a superb job. He did such a beautiful job. The section of floor that was totally ruined that he ripped out and replaced, to this day is my best looking floor. It's lasted 10 years. He stopped by to get the name of someone I had referred him to and he looked at my floor and he did a recoat for a very reasonable price. When he did my deck he made it look brand new. He was meticulous with his work. The deck work is spectacular. He's almost obsessive compulsive with the quality of his workmanship. He doesn't compromise his quality even if he's giving a bargain. He's the only one i would ever use. The price was reasonable for the quality of work he does. His guys work like machines. They drape everything with plastic. They take the draperies off the walls. They put plastic between the rooms they are going to sand. They move your furniture for you. They are very careful. They even vacuum the floors.

Completely drove in all nails (over 1600), sanded and refinished deck. Excellent Job!!

He was unbelievable. I went on vacation and left him in my house and everything. He is very neat with the cleanup. It was done in a timely fashion. He said the floors would be done in a certain way and they were. The price was unbelievable.

I was in need of very responsive contractor for this work because my wife and I needed to refinish the hardwood floor before our move-in date. I was worried because I needed this done between Christmas and New Year's. Many contractors were indeed on vacation. Steve responded to my phone call very promptly (there was no communication problem throughout the whole project). First he came in and showed us samples of stains on the floor so we can see the stains in the actual space. Thankfully, he did have a color that we liked. That day and the following two days, he worked around the clock without us being there to get the stains and coatings done. He did a fantastic job within three days between the holidays. The floor was looking great when we moved in. I would definitely use him again for similar projects.

Steve and his crew did an excellent job of refinishing my old hardwood floors. He also did a excellent job of installing trim work around my house. I would recommend him to everyone and I do plan on using his company again in the future for more trim work and new wood railings. His price was very fair and he finished all the work in a timely manner.

The job was completed on time and professionally done. Steve was also very good at returning my phone calls and communicating with me.

He is great. He is knowledgeable and does really good work. He is inline with price points. He takes pride in his work. He takes good care of the work that he does to make sure the job is done right. He closed off all the areas of work with plastic as to not get dust in any other places in my home.

He was a perfectionist. He called before he came. He put covers over all the furniture to make sure it was safe and moved it for me. He did very good work.

Steve gave us an estimate which was lower than the first quote we received from another contractor. He was able to start the job in a couple of days and he had a good recomendation here so we decided to use him. We needed the carpet taken up in two rooms and a hallway and wanted prefinished hardwood flooring installed. The dinning room and hallway had a linoleum floor installed under the carpet which also had to come up. This was the only point which presented a problem. The extra work of removing the plywood under the linoleum required Steve to add an extra charge to the cost of the job which was not apparent to him in the original quote. The other quote we received from someone else on the job was actually a range and included the possibility of having to do this extra work. However the final price we paid Steve was still lower than the other quote we received. The job itself came out very well. Steve had two men on the job with him to do the installation. Steve recommended that we go with a wider floor board than what was in the other rooms of the house and we are glad he did. The quality of the floor and the installation was very good.

I called 4 contractors, although none said or did anything "wrong", I had a high level of confidence in Steve after meeting with him. I work from home, so experienced the entire process. Steve was on time, dependable, did top quality high level work. Completed the work on time, actually a little ahead of schedule. Floors are beautiful, I trusted his stain recommendation even though I wasn't certain exactly what it was I thought would be best so trusted his eye for the end product... very glad and relieved I took his advice.

SCL Hardwood Flooring and Decks did a good job. He took the damage out and replaced a couple pieces of flooring. He was very polite and tried to please.

It went well. Steve was the first to respond to our cry for help right before the Christmas holidays. He called us back within an hour or so and made an appointment with us for the next morning. The work was promptly commenced at the appointed time. He stayed in touch and kept us informed as to the progress of the work and was specific as to what needed to be done. The floor turned out beautifully and was completed right on schedule. The kitchen table's appearance was 100% improved. We were well satisfied with the results of his company's work.

Very knowledgeable about his craft. SCL was selected over three other contractors based on his thoughtfulness and thoroughness. Communication between client and contractor could have been better after he was selected. Do confirm scope of services to be performed for the price. Do your homework on the type of flooring material you desire, the manufacturer and the location of the distributor it is to be purchases from. Do ask for a follow up visit to review proposed services and ask questions about what is included and what is not. After it was all said and done, I would have preferred oil base primer. I just think it provides a better result and is more resistant to traffic and abuse.

I don't remember how much the estimate was for. I contacted them because they had a good rating on the website. They were good. I just decided not to have the work done at the time. I would use them in the future if necessary.

The project lasted about 6 days and ran smoothly. I could not ask for better quality or service.

I found him to be disinterested in the work. He provided the estimate over the phone without even hearing the details of the job.

Mr. Steve Leger is the owner/manager of SCL Hardwood Flooring and his performance and dedication to this job was nothing short of outstanding. He is highly attentive to detail and results. If it isn't in the realm of excellence he will voluntarily make the necessary corrections to bring the results to perfection. His price was a bit higher than competitive quotes but I never doubted in my mind that he was the best choice for the job. I definitely feel that I got my money's worth and I know that the outcome was superior to what it might have been if I hadn't decided to go with SCL Hardwood Flooring. My only regret is that I had not met him before I had new, unfinished floors installed in the kitchen and dining room: his expertise on hardwood flooring is awesome. This contractor is really dedicated to his work and customer satisfaction. The work on the balustrade was colossal. The original finish was over 80 years old. Sanding off this finish was a daunting task: it would gum up the sandpaper, making the work painstakingly difficult. American Chestnut really drinks up stain and I was not satisfied with the initial results. Mr. Leger completely redid the job. It was a huge amount of work but he did it without complaint - he did it knowing that the outcome would be superior. I know what was on his mind about that job because we talked about it in detail. He doesn't make excuses - he does what has to be done and he will readily admit if it can be better and he will make it that way. It ended up looking like a museum piece restoration when he was done. Before meeting Mr. Leger I already had two rooms refinished with a different flooring contractor. I got a bargain price on that work and the results showed it: I got what I paid for. Mr. Leger refinished the floors in both of those rooms. The difference was like night and day. The floors are beautiful. I had a huge amount of remodelling work done on the house I have dealt with a lot of different contractors and suppliers and service providers. Contractors like SCL Hardwood FLooring are almost like an extinct species today. This firm has a genuine work ethic and dedication to quality, performance and customer satisfaction. I am thoroughly delighted with SCL Hardwood Flooring and highly recommend this firm. After my experience with Mr. Steve Leger I would never think of another contractor for any of my flooring needs.

Steve is a very personable and knowledgeable individual. I really appreciated his insight and expertise. The best part of working with Steve is that he is always on the job with his crew. He doesn't just stop by to see how things are going, he is pretty much at the job site all day actually doing work! You can address any issues or concerns directly to him in person. That gave us a tremendous piece of mind. In terms of both quality and value, Steve gets our highest recommendation!
