SCL Flooring

When my wife and I purchased our home we knew that the first thing we wanted to tackle was refreshing the hardwood floors. The first floor had a combination of original hardwood and some newer flooring in the additions that the previous owner had put in. The second floor had a combination of original hardwood in a couple of the rooms, with wall to wall carpeting on the stairs, landing, hall and master bedroom. We brought in a few companies for estimates, including Steve from SCL Flooring. While he wasn't the cheapest or the most expensive (something Steve himself said to me the first day we met), we were most confident moving forward him on the project. In our minds what separated Steve from the rest of the pack was the passion and level of detail with which he spoke about the potential work. We received similar insight and recommendations from all the estimates about staining and finishing. Steve, however, took it one step further in discussing with us details like the safety of some wonky steps we had, the nuance to avoiding over-sanding, and a mapping of the squeaky spots in the floor that he would target. We had previous experience using one of the ?bigger name?companies and can tell you that there is a huge difference between someone treating your floors as a ?job? and someone who approaches the project as a reflection of their craft. Since we were not yet moved in we had the luxury of giving Steve time to do things the right away. In the end we were rewarded for our patience as everything came out great. Not only did he leave us with fantastic color and finish, but he transformed the look of our stairs and tackled a number of repairs we had managed to unearth when we pulled up the 30 year old carpeting. I certainly wouldn't hesitate to highly recommend Steve and SCL Flooring to anyone who asked about our experience. My wife and I are excited to finish settling in our home so we can sit back and enjoy the beauty of all his hard work. Thanks Steve!

We first contacted Steve to refinish our outdoor deck. He was very responsive and was transparent in what he could and could not do for the budget we wanted to work within. After the deck was sanded and the first coat was applied it was clear a second coat needed to be applied. Steve agreed and added a second coat free of charge because he did not want to walk away from the job the way that it was. Steve also strengthened certain rails and posts free of charge. In the end we got the deck that we wanted. We called Steve back to re-finish our hard wood floors which were poorly done by another contractor. He buffed, polished and added a new coat of poly to them. They are now the floors we initially wanted. I would recommend Steve for future jobs. He is knowledgeable in they work that he does and reasonably priced. What I liked the most was that he has standards and wants to ensure the job is well done leaving the client satisfied!

I've now used SCL twice. Once when I first moved into my house in 2003 and all my wood floors needed to be re-surfaced. I recently used SCL for a very small job in my kitchen, where my wood floor had some water damage. SCL is all about Steve Leger,the owner and operator of the business. I originally chose SCL because Steve came to my house to give me an estimate and HE was going to be the person doing the work. Other providers sent sales people or account reps over to give me an estimate. Steve is an interesting guy. He's very devoted to his craft, but he likes to talk. I enjoy his conversation, but others may not. Regardless, I recommend looking past that and realize that you're going to have a person and is team working for you that take wood floors very seriously. Another good sign is that Steve has several people that have been on his team for more than 10 years. I was shocked to see some of the same faces in 2014 that I saw in 2003.

We hired Steve to correct and redo the work of another "wood flooring company" that Steve has no affiliation as well as refinish stairs leading from the basement to the main floor of the house that were originally covered by carpet. Prior to Steve working on the bedroom, the floor was not sanded correctly (was wavy) and the stain color was very off from the hallway. Thanks to Steve and his team, he was able to correct the waviness of the floor and took the time to stain and adjust the color with additional coats to match the finish in the adjoining hallway. As for the stairs leading upstairs from the basement, the wood is different than the hardwood floors on the main level. As a result, the stain on the stairs originally appeared different. As with matching the bedroom to the hallway and Steve being the perfectionist that he is, was able to add color to the additional coats of stain to match the color on the main level. Steve is truly a professional and perfectionist; it is extremely apparent that he takes great pride and enjoys the work that he does. He and his crew where extremely clean (it really was dustless), punctual and trustworthy; we felt more than comfortable with him in our house and coming and going as needed for the job to be completed. We would highly recommend Steve for any flooring repair or refinishing. Again, the main reason we choose Steve was to correct another companies shabby work; the work that Steve did exceeding our expectations.

Steve of SCL came to my home in order to give me a quote for the install of 1,200 sq. ft. of teak flooring throughout my townhouse. Steve, took his time and very carefully assessed the job. He thought of different ways to approach the stairs and doorways etc. and gave me several options for its completion. Steve is very creative and thinks beyond the "box" and I appreciated his expertise and suggestions. I obviously was happy because I hired him to complete the job and install. Steve, wasted no time and started the job exactly on time and contacted me each day to update me with respect to his progress. I felt comfortable with Steve and his crew being in my house while I was at work. Steve is a true professional and his crew are very respectful of cleanliness and my personal items in my house. Steve Leger is a true professional! I only wish that SCL did other types of work because I would love to hire them.

I have been using SCL to do my floors for a bit over 17 years and I've been using Steve Leger for all those years because his work stinks and he is the most expensive floor guy out there. Now what's wrong with that sentence?. Obviously it is either a lie or the person writing it is an idiot, or it is a sarcastic statement. Every trades person that I find who does excellent work at a fair price, I keep. The fact that I have kept Steve Leger doing my floors for over 17 years logically says to me that the guy is not only good, he is a craftsman at his trade. There are not enough great words for me to use to describe how good a craftsman Steve is, how honest a person he is and how kind and fair a human being he is. Every trades person I continue to use, I use first of all because they are honest and I can trust to leave them alone in my house for any amount of time, secondly and I have a hard time choosing which is first and which is second; I am a neurotic perfectionist who can't stand the smallest little thing wrong with something. I am probably the biggest pain in the butt to work with of any customer. So when I find someone who can please me with the quality of their work my family starts a parade around the neighborhood because my own family can't take my perfectionist traits. The absolute worst thing someone can say to me is "It's good enough". The third reason I keep a trades person is because I also can't stand being taken. I want to know that I'm getting the best value for my money and every tradesman that I have called back to do work in my house has always not only charged me a fair price but has charged me a reasonable price. Everyone I have recommended on Angie's list to you is the absolute best that can be found and I'm even thinking about starting Joe's list because I have given Angie more recommendations than she has given me and Angie would not be one of the ones I would recommend. But the question is How'd it go? It went great just like every other job Steve Leger has done for me One other thing is that every person I ever had working in my house that I've called back a second time has become a friend to me including Steve Leger. Over the last 17 years or so Steve must have done at least 7 to 9 jobs at my house and each one was done beautifully. I'll never forget when he built a fence around my deck and put the post to the deck he took out a ruler and measured and marked the exact center of every hole he was going to drill and lag bolt to the deck and every one is perfect. Call any of the tradesman I have continuously called back to work at my house and ask them about me. They will probably say Joe that pain in the butt he's alright, I like the guy because he knows what quality is and doesn't beat around the bush. Alan Nicole my electrician you can't find a better electrician for double what he charges, Joe Rizzolo the best plumber on the earth, Peter Tasoronis, I'll never be able to spell his name right, the only dentist in the solar system (He once opened his office on New Year's Day to fix a tooth that was hurting me). These guys including Steve are the best there are and there are no better ANYWHERE and trust me I've tried many others. Who ever I write a review on is one of the great ones. I don't waste my time writing about the jerks because my time is valuable. Except I will write about a jerk when a jerk happens to be a hubristic, arrogant prevaricator with a black heart who does not understand that hurting other people for no good reason will catch up with them. I just read a review written by a person who reminded me of the person I spoke about in my previous sentence. Now rather than jump to conclusions I will say that it may be possible that this person got mixed up in who they were evaluating when they evaluated Steve Leger and called him a racist. I know for sure that Steve Leger is no racist. Who ever it was that called Steve Leger a racist is a feebleminded, ignorant, person who probably doesn't understand what the word means and needs to have an attendant by their side 24 hours a day. I wouldn't recommend that fools attendant either. You see not only does Steve do my floor work but when ever he is in the neighborhood he stops by just to say hello. I like the guy. But that's not the reason I will call the person an outright lying evil monster (I have so many words to waste on that j****** who called Steve Leger a racist which I won't waste) . The reason I know Steve is not a racist is that the last three or four times Steve stopped by my house to say hello one of those times he introduced me to his Black Girlfriend, another time he stopped by with a friend of his who was a Mexican named Juan (nice guy) and a third time I invited him in for a cup of coffee and there was one person a friend of a friend here who was making racist remarks; Steve got up and said excuse me, I need to go to an appointment and as he walked toward the door I walked with him and he whispered to me I'm not going to sit here and listen to that jerk's racist remarks Joe and I said I know Steve I'll never have him here again but I don't want to make an issue of it now but thanks for stopping by. I never met a person of any color or race less racist than Steve Leger. I will admit that Steve is verbally opinionated when it comes to politics. He doesn't like Obama Care. I happen to like Obama, I voted for him twice and I support his policies. I never ever heard Steve make a comment about Obama's race or color only about Obama's Health Care policies.. I am one of Steve's white customers and I consider Steve to be a friend. Even though he is wrong about Obama care Steve Leger and anyone who is with him is always welcome in my house. The person who called him a racist is a liar, a fabricator of truth the most valued trait a person can have and the only time I ever heard Steve Leger lie was when he said Obama Care is bad for the country. Oh something else just entered my mind. Maybe the person who talked so bad about Steve is working for one of Steve's competitors. It that's the case then both of them are in for a run of luck I certainly would not want to be party to.

I'm overwhelmed with how racist and hateful he is! He would not stop ranting about the neighbors (and about the condition of my house) and I eventually just asked him to leave. I just couldn't get past his contempt and fowl language. I would never use him again! I'd give him a G grade if I could.

Steve at SCL Flooring takes great pride in his work. He took great efforts explaining what would need to be done with several areas of damage to my floors. We had termite damage below and an old filled spot in the middle of the floor in a bedroom upstairs. We also had split pine boards upstairs that needed full replacement. Steve and his crew pulled donor wood from an upstairs closet and made all the repairs. It was obvious he has been doing this for many years as his knowledge of my floors, repair options and products was outstanding. The floors came out better than I could have hoped for. I would highly recommend him without hesitation.

Steve did a wonderful job. He stained and refinished first and second floor and staircase. Results were excellent.

The result was impressive. I couldn't believe that the refinished floors were the same ones we started with. The custom floor in the den is stunning and upgraded the look of the room completely. They were able to start and finish when they said they would. I had a choice of many stains for the floor. The price was what was quoted. Steve takes real pride in his work and his crew were very professional and accommodating.

i left a message and Steve callef back later in the evening. We discussed what I wanted done, etc. He said he would call back by the end of week to come out for an estimate, and he never did and I decided not to pursue due to the lack of follow through.

They were very professional in regards to the job. The only thing I would have changed was the communication we had with Steven in relation to a problematic area. We had a radiator that was leaking and it stained the floor black. This was the reason why we got the floors done in the first place. I would have liked feedback in relation to finishing the floor without replacing that section. That was the only part of the process that I was not fond of. Though everything else came out in a spectacular fashion. The reason we had the floor done was because we had a leak. It was a beautiful job and it was very well done. He did the work in a timely fashion. We would have liked the option for him to say, "the colour is not coming out as much as we thought it was. Would you like us to replace the wood?" That is the only thing!

I would like to write this review because although we were not able to hire Steve (We had a very tight budget), we were impressed by his excellent customer service. He was very friendly and easy to talk to, and he spent time on the phone asking questions about our floors and general layout of the house. I will gladly send customers his way in the future.

The results are absolutely amazing! I cannot believe they are the same decks. I thought for sure we were going to have to replace the entire thing (which would have cost us over $15,000), but Steve reset and refinished all 50 feet of them and they are amazing! I would highly recommend Steve based on his incredible work.

Steve was great. He was responsive, honest and knowledgable. We did not move forward with this project since we just adopted a dog and did not want to have her go through the trauma of being displaced (again). We have shifted our "project" plans and may use him for expanding our decks.

Steve showed up on time and proved himself to be very knowledgeable and passionate. His price was on the higher end of estimates I received but he explained his whole process to me and what separates himself from the rest. I did not end up using his service mainly because I was working under a tight budget, however if I had more room to work with I could see myself using Steve.

We found Steve to be a thorough professional from providing estimates to completing excellent refinishing including working with us on the right stain selection. Punctual and committed to finishing the job on time meeting the tight schedule we had, without cutting corners. If opportunity arises, we will certainly engage for new installs as well refinishing.

It has been over a month since my first call to them(3/26). Left a message and they called back within a day. After speaking with the owner he stated he would be out within a few days to look and measure. This took a week and half. A weekand a half after taking measurements, he called back to let me know he had not forgotten about me but still did not have an est for me. It is now a month since the first call and I still do not have any form of a est. I cannot speak to the quaility of work being done by this person as nothing got done. It is not a small job as the existing deck run 2/3 of the back of the house so it is not like it would not be worth while

My wife and I were impressed from the initial phone call with SCL. The great responsiveness, attitude and professionalism that Steve showed only was surpassed by the quality of his work. His slogan, "my work is my best recommendation" is an understatement. I had taken pictures throughout the project, if I could my entire review would be the before and after shots and you would see for yourself. Anyway, our hardwood floor was in pretty bad and at points non-existent shape, under layers of tile and vinyl. When Steve came for the estimate, he jumped right into how we can fix it, even getting down on his hands and knees to see what kind of wood we had. Since my wife and I chose to remove the carpeting from the stairs, Steve let us borrow a tool to make the job easier. As the job progressed, Steve explained every thing that was happening and never tried to up-sell us anything. He spoke to us like competent adults, to me that goes along way. Since we did not go for the dustless sanding (Steve did not try to push it on us), at the end, there was the cleanup (sand dust) that Steve told us about. Nothing that a dusting did not take care of. To summarize, my wife and I were very pleased with SCL and would not hesitate to use him again in the future.

Steve and his crew were fantastic throughout the process. He came and assesed the situation and gave us an estimate. We schedule him the next day based on the Angies list reports. We packed up the house and went to my in-laws. They keep us informed of their progress and were on time with all their deadlines including completion. We were provided with a multitude of color options, which Steve guided us through. We could not have been happier with the outcome. The price I was quoted is exactly what I paid. Steve even corrected several molding issues that were not agreed to in our contract. Steve is passionate about his work and extremely competant. I am a military man who pays a great deal of attention to detail. That being said I STRONGLY recomend Steve and his crew as the exceeded even my anal standards..

Steve was punctual and courteous. His work was excellent. The entire jobs was complete in 3 days. We used water based stains and water based top coats. Steve showed us several stain options ended up mixing two of them to give us a custom color. We were extremely happy with the entire job. He and his staff did a great job cleaning up.
