Description of Work: Carlson Brothers did a large roofing project for me. They removed the existing slate roof and substructure, installed plywood, and then installed a new asphalt roof on my 1920 Colonial Tudor. | |Their bid was about the third lowest of eight bids received. It also included best materials. | |Of particular importance is that the contract stated that the attic may become dirty and any clean up would be the homeowner's responsibility. I was amazed at the debris in the attic. Although the job was paid for in full by the time I realized what had gone on, I simply mentioned my concerns to Carlson and they sent over a crew to make sure I was happy.

Description of Work: I called to get an estimate. When Carlson came out he told me my problem was from condensation and not a leak in my roof. So no repairs are necessary at this time. Refreshing not to be sold something I didn't need.

Description of Work: They came for an estimate. Said they would be back with a bigger ladder and never came back. Disappointing.

Description of Work: Replaced shingles and seals around roofing vents. Reattched a leader that had fallen off during a storm. Put a hanging gutter back flush with the roof. There doesn't seem to be any more water leaking from the worn seals.

Description of Work: They repaired a leaky porch roof with née plywood, tar paper and shingles that were a good match with shingles in the main roof. They extended a leader from the top gutter to the gutter for the porch roof. The lack of this leader was what caused all the damage . They finished quickly and carefully. They cleaned up beautifully.

Description of Work: The company came to give me an estimate on possible roof damage. They found no issues and charged no service fee. Very courteous and professional.

Description of Work: had roof damage after Hurricane Sandy AND the nor"easter. Called Carlson Bros, after reading reviews on Angie's List. They had a voice mail message asking callers to email them, which I did. I received an email response a couple days later, which requested info, which I did provide. It also asked if someone could come out in the next 24-48 hours, which was OK. A couple of days later I noticed a guy in my backyard taking pictures of my roof, in the rain. I thought it was the insurance adjuster. By the time I got outside, the man was just driving away. Insurance company said it wasn't their man. I apologioze if this wasn't someone from Carlson Bros, but the other 3 roofers I called did come out, so, the logical call here is it was someon from Carlson Bros. In either case, I never heard anything from Carlson Bros, regardless. Again, I understand they must have been busy, but someone, even a few weeks later should have followed up on the email they sent out, or the info from the "camera man" who I beleive wholly is from Carlso Bros

Description of Work: Even though Angie's list says this company has reports from 2 locations 5 miles from my home we were told by the secretary that we are "out of their area."

Description of Work: Carlson replaced removed the old roof , put on new Owens Corning shingles , and replaced the gutters and downspouts. Doug Carlson was not the cheapest nor the most expensive but when I adjusted for the higher priced shingle(OC versus GAf ) he was about the same. He agreed to use copper flashing versus aluminum at no additional cost which I had specified in the contract but Doug may have originally overlooked. The only issue I had was that he outsources the gutters to another company. There were a couple of issues with the gutters but Doug gave it prompt attention and tried to make me happy. I was probably too fussed about the way the gutters were attached to the downspouts but from a design prospective it did not seem logical that the screws should be sticking up into the gutter rather than the reverse. Doug was sympathetic to the problem but said no one had raised it before. He fixed it as best he could and at the end of the day, with all the oaks I have, the gutters are still going to fill up with leaves. Doug and his brothers run a very profesional business. They showed up when they promised, completed the roof job in 2 days and the gutters on the third. The price was the quoted price and he followed up personally with my concerns about the gutters and fixed them in a reasonable manner. He does want you to be happy with your job and I am.

Description of Work: Ron Carlson is honest and professional !!! After getting estimates from 2 other roofing companies (ranging $650-$1400!!!) he was honest enough to tell me that I didn't have a roofing problem and that I needed a mason to address my leaks (more a chimney issue than a roof issue). This speaks volumes. He took the time to explain why I needed a mason and after he explained my issue it made complete sense. The other roofers would gladly have taken my money and not solved my issue.I will be sure to call Carlson when I need a roofer in the future! Thank you Ron!

Description of Work: Spoke with Carlson Brothers with intention of making an appointment but they told me to take pictures and email to them rather than them coming to our building in person. Again, very disappointed in them for lack of service and interest in quoting the job.

Description of Work: Carlson came to my house a few times. First time was after they said they could not come before a rain storm. I went up on the roof and cemented a few shingles which I thought would fix the leak. They showed up and said they didn't want to look at the roof. It rained and the roof still leaked in one spot. I called and they came back, one of the brothers and a helper - they went up on the roof and said I needed all new vents. Quoted me $275. I said OK. One brother came back after that on another day. He started to repair/replace one of the vents and ran into a problem - said "I never saw a rook like this". He replaced the vent and used different colored shingles - after telling me that he would use matching shingles. He didn't do anything about the leak I called for - said he couldn't see anything. He left and said he was not going to charge me - I told him that I wanted to pay him something. I asked what about the leak I called about - he shrugged his shoulders and left. I went back on the roof and covered the area where the leak was that I called them about originally, with a piece of under layment material. I rained a little, a few times and it didn't leak - but I am waiting for a bigger rain to really test what I did. I covered an area of about 3 X 4 feet. And re-caulked my other vents. I don't want to replace them and would like the vent they put in replaced with one like they took out. I am now left with dented vent (which no other house in my area has) different colored shingles and the original leak. I haven't called them - I am thinking of calling someone else to repair and replace what they did and sending the bill to Carlson or taking them to small claims court. In my opinion, they tried to sell me vents I didn't need, didn't fix my leak, left me with a spot on the roof with different shingles......nice job guys. I don't know if I want them on my roof again. Very disappointed, angry, and now faced with having to pay to fix the lousy job they did. Any suggestions for me???? They walked away and didn't charge me, but left me with more problems than I had before I called them. As far as I'm concerned they are responsible for the mess they created, and just because they didn't charge me doesn't mean they are not responsible - and my lawyer friend tells me I am correct. L.D.
