I had some damaged shingles from winter icing. I called them for an estimate. They responded the same day via phone call and scheduled an appointment for 2 days later. They arrived on time, listened to to my concerns, did an inspection and provided an estimate on the spot. I decided to go ahead with the work and scheduled the work for a few days later. Again, they arrived exactly on time. Two guys did repairs on the front & rear of my home within a couple of hours. They matched the shingles perfectly and did a great job. As a matter of fact, when they arrived to do the work I pointed out another small issue we missed when the estimate was provided. I asked if they could repair that as well. Without any hesitation, they said it would be no problem and did that repair as well ... at no additional cost. Before they left they did a fine job cleaning up and carting all debris away. I would gladly recommend them to others and not hesitate to reach out to them again in the future.

Doug Carlson came over and gave us an estimate the same day. We scheduled for a date a week after we met. Everything went exactly as he described it would. They used the best materials (I researched)--making sure we got the color we wanted, (with a break in the price because it was a closeout color), protected my foundation plants, cleaned up beautifully (the entryway was swept cleaner than before they started), they removed all the old shingles (we got other estimates where they suggested putting shingles over the old ones), aluminum drip edge, deck protection (better materials and underlayment than other estimates were planning to do), and more...I appreciated the clean up so much!! They did all of this in one day, finishing up today--taking away the dumpster and putting up the gutters. In addition Doug was there too, to help on a tricky part of our roof to make sure it was handled exactly as it needed to be. We got 3 estimates. The Carlson one was better(quality of materials-and plan)-- and more competitively priced. I joined Angies List just for this project--and am very glad I did! I cannot say enough about how easy they made this for us--how good the communication was--and their flexibility working with us on cost and ways to save. (For example, we opted to keep our gutters to save$).This is such a miserable thing to have to spend money on. We agonized about who to trust with the job. I don't believe we will ever have to think about a roof again--so the least I can do is pass on this information to help someone else!

They were very good. When I called them, the roofer came right away. He was here in twenty minutes; I was shocked. I was thrilled with the price because other people were quoting me $600. I gave him the shingles; I had the shingles that matched. I thought the price was fair. It is tough to get people interested in small jobs. I didn’t want to sit around and wait until it leaked so I hired them. It was pouring rain, when the roofer showed up; it was great. They gave me the estimate on time and the roofer came out exactly when they said he would.

The company was very responsive in setting up the estimate and the work and it all got done very easily. Only gripe is that it seems expensive for a job that was done so quickly.

My house house has had water problems since it was built in 2008. I've spent substantial sums of money attempting to eliminate various potential sources, but could not figure out how water was finding its way into the basement and other parts of the house. After reporting what I'd observed, Ron Carlson suggested a relatively simple repair of a common roofing problem. The price was extremely reasonable, especially compared to all I'd already spent trying to identify the problem. He also told me to wait to pay him while monitoring the problem after several heavy rains...if the repair didn't fix the problem, not to pay him. I found this extremely refreshing after paying for so many failed attempts at repair. We've had the heavy rain, but no accompanying high winds for the true test. I am paying him now since I believe Ron is a man of his word and would work to make things right if we did have any related problems in the future.

My pregnant wife and I had just bought our new home in December and the seller had stated that the roof was new as of 2010. When we had the home inspected the inspector said the shingles looked new but the tar that looked old, a contradiction yes, however overall he did not see any safety issues with the roof so it did not raise any red flags. We completed the sale and were having interior renovations done before moving into it in April. One night in March I had been working in the attic during a storm and noticed moisture on the floor which turned out to be coming in from a leak in the roof. After further visual inspection I realized that not only was there an existing leak but there was minor water damage from prior leaking in some other areas as well. I dug up the closed permits for the roofing job that was done in 2010 and saw that the price of the job was listed a $3000, which seemed extremely low for a "new" roof. I called the number listed for the contractor who the permit was issued under and ended up speaking with an elderly woman who explained she was the contractors grandmother. After explaining my situation to her, she was kind enough to give me his cell phone number so that I could reach him. I called to discuss the matter with him and right away he was evasive. After a number of calls I finally got an appointment with him to come over look at the problem. He subsequently missed it, so I scheduled another one with the same result and then a third which was also missed. Finally he just stopped taking my calls. At this point I started getting estimates on A) what was causing the leak and B) whether or not there were any other issues with the roof that I may not have identified yet. I went through 5 estimates before deciding to try Angie's List. Each estimate had a different price, a different reason for the leak, and a different level of work that needed to be done. Getting a straight answer to make an informed decision was proving to be impossible. This is where Angie's List saved the day. Through the site I was able to find Carlson Brothers Inc, a highly rated roofer in the nearby area and I called them to schedule an estimate. Rich came out for the estimate . He took the time to answer all my questions in detail as well as give me a top to bottom assessment of where the problem areas were and the level of the severity each one. He quoted me itemized prices, allowing me to choose which pieces of work I wanted to do first and sent me over a contract that afternoon. Once the contract was signed I scheduled the work to be done as soon as possible since my wife and I were expecting any day. As it turns out, we had our baby the weekend before and our first day home from the hospital was 5/22/2012 which also happened to be the day that Rich and his crew came to do the work. They finished everything in 6 hours and didn't even wake the baby once. They did a top notch job and all the guys on the crew were hard working professionals. It has rained a few times since and thanks to them I have peace of mind knowing the leaks in my roof are gone and my families home is protected and dry.

The work was excellent from start to finish. Carlson Bros. responded timely to my request for a proposal, provided a very competitive price, and did a great job removing old skylights and installing new ones. I was most impressed with how efficient and careful the installer, Rich Carlson was. Although I put some drop cloths down anticipating some falling debris in the family room, the work was done so cleanly that I had nothing to clean up. And he removed all exterior debris. I would highly recommend these folks.

They can out and looked at my roof. They are very kind and, very professional. They got back to me very quickly. They are just great. He was on time, said he would be here at 1pm and he was.

I had a number of roofing issues and the Carlson Brothers handled everything professionally and to my complete satisfaction. My main issue was that I was missing some shingles due to recent storm which they replaced for me. Second, I had two rusted chimney caps which needed to be wire brushed and coated with rust proofing and third I wanted to install a kitchen vent so they installed the cap for me. Everything looked good and they finished within an hour from when they started. My overall experience was very positive from the beginning with contacting them, having them come out for an estimate and then having them do the actual repairs and installation.

We would recommend Doug and his company to everybody.

The job was done very professionally. They were on time, completed the job in record time ( in one day the new roof was installed ) and cleaned up completely. I can't stress enough how clean and neat the job was done. Wonderful experience. The materials used and the workers using them were top notch.

The roof on my home was very old and had two layers of shingles. They had started blowing off so reluctantly I decided it was time for a new roof. I received seven estimates, and for the most part, the estimates were all in a tight range of around $6800. The highest rated roofers on angies list were all very close in their prices, a couple I had recommended to me that did not have reviews in this site had wildly higher or lower numbers. Carlson's price was squarely in the middle of the pack, not too high, not too low. On price alone, they were lumped with everyone else. So why did I select them? A couple things impressed me: The estimate was provided very quickly - a day or two after I requested one. The estimate was very comprehensive, more so than many of the other contractors. Their estimate stated they would install three layers of water and ice shield, every other estimate included one or two. In the worst weather states in the US they normally only require two. Their estimate included three sheets of plywood if needed to replace any bad roof decking. Other estimates included one maximum, approx $60 for each extra needed sheet. One sheet of plywood goes a long way, but that could be a few dollars saved for me. Their estimate included 15lb felt paper for the rest of the roof that wasnt covered in ice and water shield. I found that odd, all other roofers said they'd use 30lb felt or two layers of 15lb. Finally, they guarantee their workmanship for 12 years. That's more than the other roofers who submitted estimates. When they came to install the roof, the guys showed up at 7:30 as promised and got to work immediately. The existing roof was completely gone by 10:00am and by approximately 4pm they had installed the new roof. With cleanup and finishing touches, they were done at 5:30pm. The dumpster was gone the next day. These were clearly professionals who do this for a living and they moved like clockwork. Doug stopped by midday to say hi and check how everything was progressing. While drawing up the contract I worked with Denise to check on a few things that I didn't see spelled out in the contract to ensure they'd be done - simple things, remove gutter debris, ensure a drip edge was installed, flashing was replaced, and I asked about a lein waiver. Everything I needed was added with no problem. When it came to payment, they offered a discount if you paid up front, but unlike other contractors, didn't ask for a "cash only" payment with a wink and a nod - I was able to put it on my credit card and get the bonus points + protections my credit card provides over cash. While watching the guys work, I noticed that they didn't actually use the cheap 15lb felt - they used a synthetic underlayment that was more expensive and better performing than 15 or 30lb felt. It's a minor point, but why would a contractor use more expensive materials that are not in the contract and not even tell the homeowner? If this adds an additional $100 or $200 per job to their costs, add that up across all their jobs, that's major money they could be saving and homeowners would be none the wiser. This feels like a commitment to quality that shows they'd rather do the job right upfront, and prevent any warranty claims down the road.

These guys were great. From Denise who handles scheduling, to Ron who takes care of quotes, to Ritchie to does the work (w/crew). I deal with contractors a lot and it is extremely tough to find one that is excellent in many ways. This company is it. From price, to the work, to asking them to do some extras. All done right and priced right. They go the extra mile. I am already working on another potential job to have them come out and install baffles in my attic. I highly recommend using them.

I called them for a complete tear-off roofing job and I was scheduled for an estimate. I was impressed that they can come for an estimate on a Sunday. They however called back 2 days before the scheduled appointment and left a message on my voicemail that they can't make it. I was dissapointed since I needed to decide already for a contractor. So I called them up again and tried to have somebody come over but was never successful in even getting a verbal quote from the company.

After the snowstorm and windstorm last year a 20 ft tree branch was sticking out of our roof. We called Carlson Bros for an estimate of the cost to fix the hole in the roof from the branch. Someone came the next day and left a written estimate. As soon as our insurance company gave the okay we called Carlson Bros. back to complete the job.

It was A job well done from start to finish

Called for an estimate & received appointment with Doug for the following day. He arrived on time & after a 15-minute inspection gave me a complete written estimate for $7500. This included a 12-year warranty on workmanship & the cost of the municipal permit. Their warranty & price were easily the best among the three estimates we solicited. After $100 Angie's List coupon & 2% discount for paying half upfront, the final price was $7252. The workers appeared, as promised, within 2 weeks, completed the job in 2 days & were thoroughly professional, doing a meticulous cleanup & leaving the premises as they found them. Overall, a totally satisfactory, hassle-free experience. It was worth spending the time on Angie's List to read reviews & find an A-rated company.

They were absolutely wonderful to work with. They did what they said they were going to do. They were here on time and the work was done splendidly. The pricing was fair. If you needed a roof it is the only place I would go. They were very professional. I was very pleased. They really went the extra mile for me. They re-roofed my shed to match my house at no additional charge.

They gave me a good rate on the job I asked them to do. They were very professional, courteous, and punctual ( they got to the house earlier than expected, which was good). They seemed to take pride in the work they did. I was pleased.

We were not charged for advise given. Would definitely consider using Carlson Brothers in the future.

The Carlson brothers actually did two jobs for our family - one for my parents in Cedar Grove and one for myself in West Caldwell. Both involved 'tricky' leaks where we had brought in another roofer (who did the original work) and he could not 'find' the source of the leak. They have this cool moisture detection handheld device. Both jobs were done very quickly, thoroughly, and professionally at a reasonable price. These guys are great - they really know their business and are a pleasure to deal with.

From start to finish well done. Estimate was well written. Easy to understand. Work was done when promised and finished in the time stated. Our house shows no sign of ever being damaged.

As mentioned in the job's description, all activities were performed competently. They were very helpful at all times. Prior to the start of the job, I requested if they could loan me some large tarps to put in my attic so that the debris could be captured on them instead of all over the floor. They had no problem with that request and helped me set up the attic as best we could. After the roof removal was completed and some of that debris came into the opened attic, I saw the value of requesting those tarps. The same cooperation was shown after the major activity was completed when a few fixups were needed: The driveway was damaged a bit when the dumpster was picked up and hauled away. Doug repaired the pot hole that was created. He also removed some old shingles that got into one of the ground drain pipes which had clogged the flow of water. A few siding shingles were dislodged when the roof debris came sliding down to the ground. Doug's employee (Keith) did excellent repairs where needed. The gutter company owner (Pasa) adjusted the one downspout path that I preferred without an issue. And the office representative (Denise) was very cooperative throughout the project.

no issues whatsoever, but then again this is only an estimate... i had lofty expectations before, but now the bar is set even higher after talking to him...
