Carlson Bros came very quickly to do an estimate. I was very impressed by the fact that he didn't recommend more work than actually necessary to achieve the desired results. His manner was very straightforward and down to earth -- not salesman-like. Also liked that he was going to be the person to perform the work, rather than being merely a salesman for a large company. After agreeing a price and providing a written estimate, he came to do the work. He worked very quickly with one other person, completing the job in approx. 1 hr, which I thought was very good. He used a high quality fan replacement, which I also appreciated. He completed the work efficiently and left the place clean and neat. Overall, a very pleasant experience, and I would feel comfortable recommending him without reservations, and would certainly hire him again for future roofing needs.

My roof looked tired. During an earlier storm, a section of shingles were blown free. I finally decided to get some quotes before winter actually arrived. Called Carlson Brothers for a quote. Ron came out to estimate the job the following day. He provided the estimate on the same visit. We obtained several other estimates and chose Carlson Brothers after researching the various options provided by each of the contractors as well as online contractor reviews, including here on Angie's List. Chose Carlson based on his quote and volume of positive online reviews. The online coupon on Angie's List was an added bonus. The installation was performed as quoted the following week. After tearing off our old roof, the crew fixed numerous patches of damaged areas of the tongue and groove sub-roof. The estimate included up to 3 sheets of plywood for repairs to the sub-roof. That seemed to be enough. After the installation was complete, the area around the house was completely cleared of debris and materials. To be fair, we did find ourselves picking up numerous nails from around the property over the next week or two. Carlson, did run their magnet around the property to pick up any remaining metallic debris. Some simply got missed. I would have expected this to occur with whatever contractor I would have chosen for this project. We are very pleased with the final result. As it turns out, the installation was completed just a couple of weeks before tropical storm Sandy struck the area. I am happy to state that our new roof experienced no leaks and no damage as a result of the storm. Ultimately, that is the whole point of this project. Just what I would expect from a new roof that was properly installed. Thanks Carlson Brothers!

They were very professional and helpful from when I spoke to them on the phone, when they came to give me an estimate and when they fixed the problem.

Crew showed up a week after quote and were out in two days. This is a three story Victorian requiring lots of cuts.

I would like to thank Carlson Brothers for the wonderful job they did on our roof their quality of workmanship is next to none. They showed up on time to give us the quote, and they did everything they said they would do in the quote. The 6 inch gutters they recommend has solved a problem that I have had since we purchased our home 34 years ago. I have no problem and will recommending them to anyone who need to replace their roof.

Overall working with the Carlson team was very good. The work was well done and every discussion professional.

First I must say, the biggest reason I reached out to Carlson Bros is because I was highly impressed by the fantastic reviews on here, particularly those noting their HONESTY. With so many stories of price gouging after the storm, we wanted to make sure we went with someone trustworthy. Despite on-going power issues, they were very responsive, Ron swung by and left a quote and Denise called to confirm. Where other contractors tried to quote us thousands of dollars for work we didn't ask for (and probably don't need), Ron quoted me for the work I requested and the price couldn't be beat. Rick came by today (one day after the quote) to do the job and was fantastic - he took care of the area we were concerned about pre-Sandy free of charge and confirmed that our roof was still in good shape and shouldn't need to be replaced any time soon. Again, I can't speak highly enought about the HONESTY of the Carlson Brothers: I would recommend them WITHOUT HESITATION. I'm glad to hear we don't need to replace our roof but if and when the time comes Carlson Bros will be the ones we turn to for this job - it's too important, too big and too expensive a job to trust to anyone else!!!

The winds from "Superstorm" Sandy ripped off a few shingles from my roof. The damage wasn't significant, but enough that I was worried that water might get into the roof. Douglas showed up, climbed up on the roof and finished the repair in under 20 minutes. This is the second time I've used Carlson Brothers and they have become my "go to" roofers. They are responsive to phone calls and emails (even when they don't have power in the office), show up when they say they'll show up, give honest advise, are very reasonably priced, and do excellent work.

We thought there was some damage to my parent's roof in the aftermath of Sandy because we found a couple of shingles in the backyard. I called Carlson Bros. and got a recording suggesting I send an email which I did. This was late morning Tuesday. I went to my parent's house thinking they are so overwhelmed that it would take a few days. I was wrong however because someone showed up at the house early afternoon the same day. He climbed up on the roof to check the damage. He came back down to tell us that those shingles were not ours and that our roof was perfectly fine. I applaud the honesty and integrity of this company and they would be the first company I would call in the future.

On Nov. 1, 2012 I submitted a request to Carlson Bros. along with several other roofing companies, to give me a quote to 1. repair a small quantity of shingles which had blown off of my roof during Hurricane Sandy and 2. Let me know upon inspection what the cost of a complete new roof would be since my roof is 20 years old. The contractor responded by email the same day with a quote for a complete new roof in the amount of $9,750.00. I was astonished since I know he never came to look at my roof to give me an idea what the repair costs would be for the missing shingles. I emailed him questioning how he could come up with a price without physically inspecting my roof. His answer was that he uses high tech software pictometry! Well that may work in so far as telling him the size of my roof and what shingles are missing, but certainly without a physical inspection there's no way he could give me an accurate quote, in my opinion. Add to that scenario that his price is at least 40% - 50% higher than many other companies (some of which are also rated high on angies list) , I would have to say that he earns an F in my book.

The crew, headed by Rich Carlson, were very professional, neat and respectful of my property and my neighbors. Rich showed me in advance the main material they were going to use. He further explained that after they tore up the target area, they found that not only had the original roofer repaired the wrong spot, but had used an inferior rubberized sheeting under the shingles. The stuff Carlson unrolled looked and felt like a black pool liner. The team worked for about four hours and charged me $950, which was a fair price based on my previous experience. Rich said I shouldn't have anymore problems, and I'm confident it is true. Note: I am writing this review before the roof is tested by any storms. But I'm confident that the problem has been addressed and am moving forward with internal repairs to the damaged walls. I haven't been up on the roof either to look at the work, as I have a fear of heights and can't see the roof from any other vantage point. But, again, I take a lot of comfort from the professionalism of the crew and Ron's first visit, during which he showed me a portfolio of nightmare scenarios that Carlson had fixed. He struck me as a sincere, matter-of-fact, no-nonsense guy. I will update this review during the winter to confirm my belief that Carlson did a great job. There were two minor glitches in the process. One was Carlson's fault and one was mine. The first day that the team scheduled the repair, they didn't show at the appointed time. When I called, they said they would need to re-schedule. I work from home, so I was fine with that, but could see how that would be tough for someone who took a day off from work. We re-scheduled, and the team showed up promptly, but it was drizzling. They told me that they tracked the weather, and it was supposed to clear up. I was doubtful, so they agreed to re-schedule at no charge. Sure enough, a half hour later the sun came out, so the Carlson crew was right. They handled my discomfort with understanding and fairness, and did not pressure me nor complain about me putting the job off. I thought that was impressive. I've noticed another small job involving a roof-drainage problem that I will definitely call Carlson brothers to fix.

They just did the work that needed to be done. They could have done more, but were honest. Since then we have had no problems with the roof.

Due to water damage we had to have a flat roof/ terrace repaired. Ron Carlson came 1/2 hr early and gave us an estimate on the spot. He told us exactly the issue and what he could do to resolve it. We also had some other repairs which needed to be done and he was very upfront to tell us that was not his specialty. After several estimates, we realized that his price was fair for the work he planned to do. Ron came back a few days before the work was done to measure area. Then his brother Rich came the day before to double check, since he was doing the work. They did not ask for any payment upfront. Rich arrived by 8 am, announced his arrival, and worked diligently until the work was completed by about 4:30pm. We inspected the work which was done very professionally and the work site was clean. I would not hesitate to use Carlson Bros again or recommend them to others. Excellent, hassle-free, professional service!....and no more leak!

He came and gave me an estimate without getting on my roof. There's no way you can give an accurate estimate without doing so. Very disappointed.

I was extremely happy with Carlson Brothers. I wanted a quality job but limited to what was needed at the time. Everyone else tried to sell me more than I needed. Carlson Bros. understood the situation and provided a good price for the work. The arrived on time, Did the work quickly and efficiently and cleaned up completely afterwards. I have recommended them several times since.

Carlson Bros were very helpful and responsive throughout. I had regular access to the company's principals for my questions and issues. They made a quote in the fall and when I had the job done in late spring there was no additional charge and no surprise fees. They patiently dealt with my insurer more than once to establish the best reimbursement for the roof. When my town did not require ice shield by code, the insurer refused to cover it; because Carlson refuses to install new roofs without ice shields Carlson made an adjustment to my total bill so I would not have to pay for this item that the insurer wouldn't pay for but that they (Carlson) considered essential. They did some small additional storm related repairs and other items for me with no additional charge. They were timely and finished the job quickly and as promised and came after the job to answer a few followup questions I had.

It went well and they finished in a couple of days. They cleaned up and did not leave a mess behind for us to clean up. They had a new screen installed for us in one of our window screens that had a hole accidentally punched in it during the roofing process. Douglas Carlson and his brothers were quick to respond to us when we had a leak over one year later in April 2011 coming from one of our two old skylights, which they had not installed. They made an adjustment to it by installing a new rubber gasket and did not charge us for that even though that was not part of their originally contracted roofing work. That skylight has not leaked since they repaired it.

We referred them to our family members and friends. They were great. They were very nice workers. They cleaned up everything including the nails. We are very happy with their service.

The work was good and they were very thorough. I've had a roof surface leaking on and off for the last 15 years. This is the 4th surface on it and it looks like they did it correctly. I give him really high praise and high marks.

They were excellent. The price was excellent and the job was terrific. They were right on time and cleaned up very well.

Called for an estimate and spoke with Denise to arrange on site visit. They came out promptly and gave me an estimate inline with the others I had received to complete my roof repair. Once I agreed to have them complete the job they were out within a week to do the repair. Very pleasant to deal with- also removed my old roof antennae. Would definitely recommend these guys and use them again in the future.

Contacted Carlson Roofing for a kitchen ceiling leak that had been attempted to be repaired by others. Left a message in the office and received a call back with an estimate appointment for the next day within 30 minutes. Ron arrived as scheduled and was able to identify the humidity areas in the kitchen with the use of a handheld meter (none of the other repairmen had used this device.) He was very thorough by going on the roof and inspecting the identified humidity area, and explaining how it would be repaired. The appointment was set up for two weeks, as this was the earliest date available. They arrived at 7:30 am sharp. They went beyond the original repair by identifying that the flashing around our exhaust pipe needed replacement (they did not charge us for this additional work!.) Very happy with the work, experience, and most importantly it has rained twice since they did the repair and no water in the kitchen. Thank you Ron.

The contractor arrived promptly and worked quickly and neatly. The job was done before I knew it. We are very happy with the results.

There was a quick response to my call for an estimate and the date was set in a timely manner for the job to start. Everything from the office staff (Denise) to our questions answered by Doug and Ron, was done in a professional manner. All materials arrived the day before, along with a dumpster for old roof debris. Workers arrived on time and job was surprisingly completed in one day. Due to the nature of removing 2 old roofs, some minor damage was done to our gutter screens and a few shrubs. Carlson had tarps over all landscaping to protect it but minor damage can happen. Carlson was very responsive to these few minor issues and corrected them immediately. We were very grateful and appreciative for that. Nothing was left undone. The roof looks outstanding and we highly recommend this company!
