It wasn't a cost of service, they were supposed to give free estimates, but when they came out, they wanted to charge me $50.00 for coming out to give the estimate, but on the yellow pages it says free estimate. It really is not free and we had a big argument, they were going to take me to small claims court for $50.00. The guy just came out, looked at the job and said he didn't bring the correct ladder, and they were located in Princeton, all he had to do is go back get the ladder and come back, but he didn't have the ladder on his truck, so they wanted to charge me $50.00 just for coming out there, and I said no! Because the guy didn't do any work, we had a big argument about it.

I called Nassau Electric LLC (Nassau) to install and supply electricity for lights that I had added to my ceiling fan. I used a 8 foot ladder that reached my cathedral ceiling fan with no problem, but I did not know how to install the electrical remote device, to turn the lights on and off, so I called Nassau to preform this job. When Nassau came the electrician informed me that the device had to be installed at the top of the ceiling fan and not by the lights. As a result my ladder was not high enough to reach the top. Nassau did not have any ladders on their truck to do this job. The electrician left and told me he would need to reschedule. I called up the company to complain and they said they were charging me for the visit, in which nothing was done and the electrician was here only two minutes. The women at Nassau claims she asked me how high the ceiling was. If she had done that I would have gladly told her, which means she would have know her worker needed a ladder. What motive would I have not to give her a correct information. She told me the visit normally runs $100.00 but she would split the difference. Otherwise she would see me in small claims court. Beware of this company. 1. In the Yellow Pages it states that Nassau Electric gives "Free Estimates". I called Nassau and they gave me an estimate over the phone. Since the Yellow Pages states free estimates I believe Nassau should have the common business practice of coming to the home to give an estimate. But they try to do it over the phone from a potential client who is not an electrician. The phone conversation lasts about 5 minutes at the most and there was no mention of a ladder . In fact at that time I did not know the height of my ceiling. I used my 8 foot ladder that I had, to install the ceiling lights, but did not know how to install the module to light up the lights that is why I called Nassau to do the job. I originally thought (because I am not an electrician) that the modular had to be placed near the lights. It also should be noted that Nassau and our home are both located in the same town. How difficult would it have been to stop by and see the job and then give us a visual estimate, like normal contractors. Then they would have known the size of the ladder they would need. 2. In my conversation with Nassau I spoke to them 5 minutes at the moist. There was no conversation about a ladder. On August 23, 2026, another electrician came over to my home to give me a free estimate. He, unlike Nassau, did not charge me for this. He came by when it was convenient for him, which was fine with us. His name is Anthony DiFalco. He stated that his 12 foot ladder would do the job and he measure the ceiling at 16 feet using his tape ruler. He has been in business for 25 years, quoted me far less than Nassau, his quote was $220. Anthony DiFalco is also on Angies List. 3. The mechanic which Nassau sent over was at my home for 2 minutes and immediately wanted to leave. He stated he did not have a ladder on his truck for this because it was difficult to carry in his truck. It should be noted that Anthony DiFalco had two ladders on top of his truck and the shorter one was a 12 foot ladder. I told Nassau's electrician that we would reschedule. He did not want to go back and get the correct ladder, even though we were in the same town. It seemed to me that he blew me off just to go to another job. I do not understand why Nassau does not carry a 12 foot ladder on their truck for normal business, especially since I wanted work done on a ceiling fan, like Anthony DiFalco did. 4. I called to reschedule and was told I would have to pay for the service call even though nothing was done. I was upset because not one thing was done. Not only this but Nassau told me that they would have to rent a ladder for the job and now the job would be over $400 (excluding the original service call), and another electrician would have to be there to hold the ladder. This is in complete contrast to Anthony DiFalco, price quote using his 12 foot ladder for a 16 foot ceiling and $220 for the whole job. The electrician at Nassua did not even measure my ceiling for rescheduling purposes. Nassau even stated that they did not have a ladder to reach my ceiling and that they would have to rent one at my expense to do the job. Nassau wanted to charge me $147.13 for this first visit visit in which nothing was done, not even measuring my ceiling. 5. When I refused to pay $147.13 because nothing was done they threatened to take me to Small Claims Court just to "waste my time". When that did not work they then changed the bill to $50 by leaving this message on my answering machine, which I kept on my voice mail.. When I reported this to the BBB, Nassau recalculated the bill and it went up again to $147.13. 6. I did not trust Nassau because the bill was constantly changing. I finally received a bill in the mail for $51 which I paid and caulked it up to extortion by Nassau.
Description of Work: Nothing, provided an inaccurate supposedly free estimate over the phone which turned out to be not free and did not bring the correct equipment for the job.

The crystals were packaged individually in chandelier. Instead of asking me whether it should be unpacked prior to of after putting it up, employees proceeded to start unpacking it once had placed very high up. Only when I asked what was going on, was I told that I should consider call a handyman to unpack the chandelier since it would be cheaper. I did call my handyman and ended up paying him about 350 dollars as well. He was exhausted by the end of the process since he was up on the ladder while removing the packing. He discovered the light was not working so we ended up keeping the rented ladder another day, with another 40 dollars expense. We need to get a new light bulb to see of that was the issue-it wasn?t. The fixture in the kitchen is oriented the wrong way because no one bothered, even though I was home, to ask me how I wanted it oriented. The Nassau guy insisted it could not be reoriented. So I had paid 1330 dollars (900 dollars to Nassau, 350 to the handyman and 80 for a ladder for 2 days), and was stuck with a chandelier that is not working in the foyer. They offered to ?fix? this at a discounted rate. Since then, I have had to get a whole new different chandelier (returned the original one bc light was blown-amazing that it was not picked up when installed!! ) and paid another electrician to orient the kitchen light the way I wanted it to begin with-It clearly was doable!).

Description of Work: We hired a housing inspector - who found our electric sub-standard. Nassau Electric charged us for another "inspection" then stood us up for a walk through, after apologizing gave us a bid, we accepted, and replaced our electric service panel, but there were missed items in the estimate, we paid for them, then we failed the electrical inspector's visit, our contract was contingent on a clean bill of health, the electrical inspector made them return after flunking us, they wanted more money, their representative hung up on us, subsequent to being hung up on we have discovered our washer and dryer are also improperly wired into the electrical panel. Since we were hung up on - we are left fixing the problems we hired Nassau Electric to repair. We take no joy in leaving negative feedback - this is a first for us. Please contact us if we can provide any additional color.

I was told I'd be the first call of the day and the electrician would arrive between 8-8:30 AM. He did not get to the house until almost 9 AM. He took down the light/fan and installed the new fixture. I had wanted the light/fan to be placed near the stove, but the outlet would not have supported the fan wiring and he would have had to go through the attic to do the job. I told him to forget it for today. He left the house at 10:10 AM. The bill was sent to me in the next few days. I was advised that I would be paying for travel time. Unfortunately, even though I was the first customer, they "rounded out" the remainder of 45 minutes and charged me for 2 hours' work. I did contact them about this and I said that I could understand a "flat traveling fee" but not the very high $90.00 per hour rate.
Description of Work: The ceiling fan in the kitchen was removed and a pendant light was installed.
