Recently had their repair person out to fix our house humidifier. They replaced the old selenoid but still didn’t work. He said we can either replace the selenoid and humidistat or get a whole new unit. The cost around $800. They emailed us estimates for both options. Since the new unit only costs about $100 it seemed strange they were charging so much. We ordered a new selenoid ($17) and humidistat($120) on our own. We replaced the selenoid and the unit worked perfectly. Had to return the humidistat as it was not needed. If we had taken their advice, we have spent $800 when all it really cost was $17. Extremely upset with their service and feeling ripped off.

[Member Name Removed] - I am sorry that you feel the way you do. I spoke to our Service Manager and the Technician. It seems that we followed all of our internal protocols by diagnosing the issue and quoting options for resolving them. We identified the solenoid and the humidistat as being faulty and quoted you on replacing them. In addition, our standard practice is to also quote customers on a replacement (which we did) if the equipment is of a certain age. This gives clients a complete range of options. I am sorry that you do not like our prices and I am happy that you were able to fix your own humidifier. I'd be happy to have a call with you at your convenience. Have a nice Holiday season. Princeton Air is the best. The controller on our boiler/water heater combo system stopped working properly. We called Princeton Air in for a diagnosis, forgetting at first that we needed to call our homeshield insurance for an estimate. After going through another diagnosis with our appliance insurance and finding out that we wouldn't be able to get a controller (and therefore NO HEAT OR HOT WATER) for a week and a half (temperatures outside were dipping down to below 40 at night) we called Princeton Air again. We really had to duke it out for HOURS with the insurance company for them to realize that our family couldn't live without heat and hot water in the time frame that they provided so they agreed to reimburse us if we used Princeton Air, since they said they could get it done faster. In the meantime, Princeton Air had been proactive and ordered the part, even though we didn't know if we could use them, because, as they put it, they "knew how hard it is without hot water or heat". If we didn't use them, they just planned to return the part. We had heat again in 3 business days (unfortunately, there was a weekend in between, so it was more like 5 days since the part distributor wasn't open on the weekend), and this was with ordering another part that was not apparent to be deficient in the initial diagnosis. If we had to wait on the insurance company's contractor, it would have been another WEEK for them to come in and install, and probably another week and a half to receive the second part, so 3 weeks without heat or hot water, when Princeton Air had us heated and cozy (and showered) in 5 days. Thanks, Princeton Air for being fast, responsive, and really caring about your customers!!!

We had Princeton Air servicing our unit 3 times over 2 years for a heating issue. We paid for each of these visits. The first time they claimed there was a refrigerant leak which was recharged, but very little was required; likely not the actual core issue but I understand making sure the level is within the required range. Second was an issue with the relay for the heat bank, which is likely tied to the third visit. The issue here is that the third time Princeton Air came out, they found a jumper was missing on the control panel that actually allows the auxiliary heat banks to correctly and fully activate. We were told this was an issue from the original installation. In addition to the $90 fee "just to knock on the door," we were charged ~$110 to place one jumper on two posts on the control board (after complaining to Dave the service manager, they agreed to credit 10% back; still outrageously priced). Besides that absurd price, why did Princeton air not find or fix this on the previous 2 visits? What I have found is that there ARE good technicians who work at Princeton air (Marty is one of the good ones). But they are far and few between and you need a lot of luck to get one of the good ones. Most lack the experience and knowledge to find and determine these issues. The employees are also friendly, and typically punctual. Generally, availability is pretty good as well. However, I try to keep a rating of a company to its core competency. While friendliness and punctuality are great, I chose Princeton air to fix my heat - and in that ability I found them to be sorely lacking. Lastly, when reporting my concern to the company through Dave the service manager, I was interrupted several times to be questioned "why I didn't contact the installation company if it was installed incorrectly." This was clearly an attempt to shift the blame away from the company and for me to take responsibility for their shortcomings. And also 1. Because most people who buy built properties don't know or can't determine who installed their appliances. 2. Because I called your company to figure it out and fix it. If you can't do that and you want to defer to the installation company of any HVAC unit, you shouldn't be in business.

Fair. Energy audit was great. Right on target. i hired them to implement 2 recommendations plus a 3rd item to patch up after one of the repairs. one was "mostly" done per spec, but smaller than anticipated, so teh "patch" up work wasn't needed nor done. 2nd recommendation wasn't done. How did I know the 2nd recommendation wasn't done? I crawled into the crawl space a few days after they left and discovered this on my own. When I called to complain that only about half the job was done, there was no apology, but they did send someone to do the 2nd repair job. I called to ask about a price reduction since the first repair was smaller and no patch work which was a separate line item in the estimate wasn't needed. It takes weeks to resolve with multiple phone calls from me. Eventually I got $50 off.

Technician examined cooling system comprehensively and explained that the single-zone setup of our system was the reason for uneven cooling (cool downstairs/warm upstairs). Stated that this was normal and suggested that we shut some vents downstairs to direct more air upstairs. We found this explanation to be sufficient and reasonable. He was very knowledgeable and very patient with all our questions and concerns. Most importantly, he was very patient with our queries and was not annoyed or condescending with his answers. He also offered options for zoning systems and explained upfront that duct work may be required if we were to create a separate zone upstairs. He was not pushy offering this additional and obviously costly option; we thought this was a logical offer based on assessment of our system. He also assessed our overall heating/cooling system and gave us helpful tips in prolonging the life of our system. Installation of Nest thermostat was done thoroughly and efficiently. He tested the thermostat to ensure it was working and gave us some helpful hints regarding the new thermostat based on feedback he's had from other clients. The technician arrived on time. He wore protective shoe covering upon entering our home without our asking, which we thought was very considerate. As well, arranging the appointment with the customer service rep was easy. They also confirmed the appointment with us day of event. We were happy with the experience and won't hesitate to give them a call when we are ready to upgrade our system.

We had a very positive experience with Princeton Air. When our AC broke over the 4th of July weekend, Princeton Air was open to take our call and able to send out a tech when other companies were not available. When it became clear that our unit needed to be replaced, a member of their sales team, Jim, came to the house to give us an estimate and spent over an hour looking at our system and reviewing options with us. He provided a thorough explanation of available units, pros, cons, the installation process, and pricing, as well as exactly what we would receive if we hired Princeton Air. We did not receive the same courtesy from other contractors who provided estimates. Princeton Air's estimate was a little higher, but we felt more confident with it as we knew exactly what we would be getting, and it was clear that they were not taking our business for granted. The installation process went smoothly: their team was punctual, courteous, and did a great job cleaning up. Our new unit is much more energy efficient than the old one and has been working well.

hey were very professional and very thorough. We didn't go with them, but they were really good. Their prices were fair, maybe a little pricey that's why we didn't go with them. The guy who came out, he gave a really professional estimate. He took a lot of time to explain everything to us. Ultimately, it was based on the price. they were professional, they were on time with us. Their follow up was great after we go the estimate.

Before having Princeton Air come out I had a different company come and diagnose the problem. The repairmen was late and ended up telling me the problem was the "thermostat wasn't programmed correctly." Needless to say the problem returned right after he left. Princeton Air was punctual and offered extremely high quality service. The initial repairman spent several hours working on my heating system and had 2 others come to help him. He ultimately determined the issue was that the system was low on refrigerant. This added a pretty nice expense to my overall bill, which was surprising at the time, but I did some research afterwards and they gave me a pretty fair price (apparently it is no longer manufactured anymore so prices continue to rise). I had no more issues with my heat after that point. I am completely satisfied with my experience with the company and I would definitely recommend them to anyone else.
Description of Work: This review is coming very late but I definitely owe it to the company and the repairmen to complete it. I was having issues heating my small apartment this past winter and the heat would run and never turn off but the apartment would only get nominally warmer.

I give them high marks. They have a service contract with them and it's about $220 a year. They come in late spring/early summer and in the late fall/early winter. There are other companies that could do it for a few bucks less, but they're not reliable. I call them up and they show up the next day. You don't get the song and dance, "I can't get to ya, I'll get to ya next week".
Description of Work: I have an ongoing maintenance contract for like about 6 rental units that I manage. They do the twice-a-year maintenance on them. Periodically, when I do some rehab work up here, I use them to do the HVAC changeover. When I have to upgrade to codes or get new A/C or when they get old. They die after 10-15 years.

Their very professional and thorough. I went to them and a representative came here and looked at everything that had to be done, he made a list of everything, he went through the whole entire house cause they do heating and cooling and he priced out like different air conditioning units for me and made a recommendations on like weatherproofing, he saw some areas were he thought we should add insulation and stuff like that, so he listed everything out in a very detailed way with prices and from that we were able to choose what we wanted to have done and the air conditioning units we wanted and then once we choose them we arranged to have the work done.
Description of Work: We are living in a house that we had built ourselves we had a contractor who was a disaster and we had to get rid of him, Princeton Air they came on board to put in the air conditioning condensers the heating and all that was already done so they basically came to put in air conditioning condensers and they did a couple other weatherproofing stuff they recommended certain amount of weatherproofing stuff in the basement and we did some of the things they recommended.

We had one part replaced, and in the process another part stopped working. We called them back out, and the 'senior tech' explained that the two issues were unrelated. I asked to speak to the manager, and the tech claimed none of the managers were in today. He also claimed to have ordered the other part that needed to be replaced. I called the office and was told all managers were in today. When I spoke to the manager, he first berated me that of course the issues were unrelated. Though he 'didn't know why' the tech would claim no managers were in, he also said we don't order parts until you OK it. Unsurprisingly, he 'didn't know why' the tech claimed to have ordered the part. So the upshot was, "Hey - our techs are totally ethical and professional, even though I acknowledge that the tech basically lied to you twice in a span of about 5 minutes.' They said it would take 2-3 days to order the part, and then they'd schedule the installation in another 1-2 days. Rather than doing this, I had the work done by another firm for about 15% less than what they were going to charge. I called a competitor and they had a tech out the very next day. 3 hours later the whole thing was done.
Description of Work: Our furnace was making a noise. They came out and fixed that, and in the process - maybe coincidentally, maybe not - our blower stopped working. We looked into hiring them for this as well, but in the process found a more professional firm at a better rate that could do the job much quicker.

My Air Conditioner broke down on the Sunday of Memorial day weekend. I called and left a message with the emergency service number for Princeton Air. To their credit, they called back a few hours later to say they only provide emergency service to existing customers. This was a bit disappointing, but somewhat understandable, and at least they returned my call during the holiday weekend (many of the other places I contacted didn't respond at all). The person who called said I could call back Tuesday morning during business hours to schedule an appointment. I did call back Tuesday morning, and waited on hold for 5-6 minutes before talking to a person. I was told I needed to give a Credit Card number along with my address and contact information in order to establish a customer record. This was before I could even make an appointment, let alone see a service tech at my house. This seems extremely shady- none of the other service providers I've worked with (A/C repair or otherwise) have ever asked for a credit card up front. I declined to give that information, and found another provider who asked for payment after providing service.

Good Afternoon Mr. (Member Name Removed), My name is Matthew Adelman and I am the Market Coordinator @ Princeton Air. I wish to start by apologize for not responding sooner, but apparently there is a major issue with the Angie's List notification system that would normally alert us immediately after receiving a new review; and it was almost by chance that we came across your review, "only" 9 days after you published it! Terribly embarrassing this situation is; and while completely beyond our control, I feel the need to apologize nonetheless. Unfortunately I find myself having to apologize a 2nd time for something beyond our control; but the detailed reply I have written is being flagged by the Angie's List system as using "improper" punctuation mark(s); and having now read through my full-length response 5 times & still failing to find the problem, I am forced to shorten this reply to the bare minimum - and hope that the punctuation used in these paragraphs are "proper". I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to send you the complete response, but have no direct contact information for you, so I offer you my email address; please send me an email and I will in turn send you the proper reply - improper punctuation and all. My experience with them did not go well at all. They had done a little bit of work for us before so we thought they'd be okay. We wanted a humidifier and they came and said they couldn't put a humidifier on it, because it wasn't configured right. They said they might have a solution but they didn't call back. I finally called them and they said they can't do it. So I called someone else, who said it would be no problem, and they installed it. They didn't seem to know what they were doing and they didn't call us back when they said they would.

Response from PRINCETON AIR CONDITIONING INC
Good Day, Mr. [Member Name Removed] As the President of Princeton Air, I wanted to take a moment to first thank you for sharing your most recent experience with us, and then apologize for the experience itself. I did some internal research on the situation you detail, reading the technician’s notes as well as viewing some pictures of the mechanical equipment & configuration in your home to try to put the pieces together, as it seemed odd that we – or any contractor for that matter – would simply “walk away” from a sale without just cause; and now having done so, I do have a better understanding of the events & situation; and I welcome the opportunity to discuss each detail with you in person, but basically: The original agreement to install a humidifier in your home was done via telephone, sight unseen; and when our Technician arrived to perform the installation, there were some physical impediments involved limiting the installation options; but the primary reason the Tech was unwilling to proceed with the installation related to the proper drainage (or apparent lack thereof) for the humidifier based on those limited installation options, and his concern regarding the long-term water damage potential to your home caused by the improper drainage of the humidifier; thereby coming to the determination that it would be better to not move forward with the installation, rather than risk doing any harm to your home. All too rare in today’s world are contractors who place “doing the right thing” ahead of “doing the profitable thing”; and as disappointed as we are that we caused you to question our competency by making this decision, as well as the lost opportunity to earn your business that day, we do feel justified by the decision to not simply “put blinders on” and proceed with a project that had the potential to do more harm than good. And, as disappointed as you might be with our decision to not proceed as initially agreed via telephone, I hope that you can respect the reasons why we made that decision after surveying the install itself. Our service notes also indicate that at least 1 attempt to contact you post-visit was made, but apparently we failed to connect with you on that attempt, and may have dropped the ball regarding follow-up calls; and for this I do wish to apologize as well. Please feel free to reach out to me anytime during the week, and I would be more-than happy to discuss any/every part of this with you directly; and my hopes are that this last less-than satisfactory experience might be at least partially offset by your positive first experience with us prior, and you might consider giving us one more chance to prove to you just what makes Princeton Air different than any of your alternate HVAC contractor options. Once again: On behalf of everyone at Princeton Air, our thanks for sharing your experience with us, and sincerest apologies for the outcome. J. Scott Needham President Princeton Air

Response from PRINCETON AIR CONDITIONING INC
Sorry for the late response. Thanks so much for taking the time to share your thoughts on our the replacement project we performed at your home. I am aware of the ups & downs that occurred and we have put in place some procedural changes that should help to address these situations in the future. Thanks for your business! Scott Needham

They were pretty good at getting back to you and things like that. We have an issue, so they came back and fixed that. They were easy to work with. But try to deal with them on the off season so you can get a better deal.
Description of Work: I used the services of Princeton Air Conditioning. We have to had the air conditioner upgraded and replaced and to have it installed. They did air conditioning and furnace as one whole thing.

I was driving to work this AM, stuck on traffic on route 1, S. of Baker Basin Road and was not familiar with the area, and trying to get back on route 1 when a Princeton Air truck pulled beside me and rolled down his window and just started an onslaught of profanities directed toward me. I called their customer service line and they were remorseful and apologetic but not much they could do since I did not get his license plate (he drove away fast in a different direction). If this is the type of employee they hire, there would be no way I would want them 10 feet of my home, let alone, invite them in to do service. Stay away from this company, very unprofessional employees!!!!!

We signed a contract with Princeton Air about 3 years ago. After the first 2 years, we decided not to renew the contract because we found the service very expensive and in some cases unprofessional. Although some technicians were competent, others were not. Here is a specific example. After our basement was flooded, we called them to check the heating system. The technician was unable to start the water heater and declared that all electronic circuits need to be replaced. Later a representative of the company gave us a quote for over $500. Luckily for us, we had a plumber to come and replace the sump pump. He was able to start the heater after about 10 min (all he needed was a sponge to get rid of the water). After this incident, we decided not to renew our contract with Princeton Air. But we were for a surprise. We made sure to schedule their regular visit (to check the heating system) before our contract expired (it expired in November and we scheduled the visit in October). After we told them that we are not going to renew the contract, we received a bill for $340.26. They claimed that we had an extra visit outside of our contract. This 15-min visit apparently is meant to cost us $340. Note that their yearly agreement is little over $400; and that they charge $60 for a visit. This $340 to me is just extortion. It didn't help that the person handling the bills tried to intimidate my wife on the phone.
Description of Work: Inspected the heaters.
