Visited the store and spoke with John. We were impressed by his knowledge and recommendations. Signed contract on 11/14/2012 with a deposit of $2,000. Work was supposed to be completed within 2-3 weeks. The work did not start until mid January, and was not completed until late Feb. During the entire process, the company did not return most of our phone calls requesting updates with regards to when they would start, and the progress of the work once started. We needed to call them almost daily. The basic installation did eventually pass all inspections, and the fire place does work. The finish related work was done poorly. We will need to replace our crown and base molding and repaint adjacent ceiling and walls due to damage caused during the installation of the fireplace. Molding around the mantel was damaged due to incorrect use of the nail gun. Spackle was very sloppy and rough considering the contract called for 2 coats. Silicone caulking was used on surfaces that needed to painted. When we pointed these items out to John, he would not acknowledge these as defects. We gave up on trying to get the company to remedy and will be hiring someone else to finish the job.

Signed contract on 5/03/2012 with a $2000 deposit, A&J indicated material will take about 2 weeks and installtion 2 Days.After a month I called about delay in starting the job. I didn't get any answers A&J kept on telling me materiial is coming next week,next week,next week!!!! Finally material came in about 7/11/2012 and work was started but not completed, not all material was recieved. Finally material came iin and job was 99% completed on 8/21/2012. I indicated to A&J that I will complete remaining 1% because I couldn't take them any more.

We interviewed several companies, chose A and J. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL-said they would call, never do, tell you they will come on a specific day-never show or call, hardly return calls timely. The workers broke the hand selected marble and the owner tried to quickly order and "replace" a new piece and then when confronted about it, he lied right to my face (too many issues to list). The whole job took more than 3 months, completely horrible company to do business with. WILL NOT EVER USE THEM OR REFER THEM ANYWHERE!

Description of Work: I signed the contract to replace my gas fireplace on 12/18/2010. The workmen arrived two weeks later and began ripping out the old fireplace. Their work was sloppy and unprofessional. They tried to force the wrong size unit into the available space. The workmanship was shoddy and the unit was improperly installed. Both the Fire Inspector and the Building Inspector failed the installation. The Installers once again tried to fit the wrong size unit into the space. The Building Inspector failed them again. The owner of A&J Fireplaces came in to oversee the job. He decided that the only way he would pass inspections was to install the correct size unit. He ordered a new unit and tore out the other one. It is now March and I have been living in the midst of a construction site for months. My house is freezing and a mess. Finally the right size unit arrived and the owner installed it. The next day I smelled gas in my house. I called A&J right away. I was told to crack windows and shut off the gas, and someone would be right over. Nobody came until the next day after I threatened to call the Fire Dept. and the Gas Company. They found a large leak in the shutoff valve, which had been installed incorrectly and fixed it. After months of tolerating shoddy workmanship and disrespect from A&J Fireplaces, the unit was ready for final inspection. The installation passed the final inspection. I paid the balance due, only because I wanted to be done with A&J Fireplaces. I hired a carpenter to clean up their mess, and after spending an additional $1000, my fireplace is finally done. It is now May, the weather is warm and I don't need my fireplace. I will never use A&J Fireplaces again and I hope that this review will keep someone else from going through what I did.
