K Haskell Tree Experts Inc

Where to start...... I used K haskell 2 years ago to cut down 2 trees, both about 25 feet tall. They are very nice, came out gave me a price and said they would be back the following Tuesday. Tuiesday came and i got a call syaing it may rain so they will wait till later in the week. OK, no problem...I don't know the tree business but that makes sense....no rain that day but hey, who can predict the weather right? The week passed and so did the next week. I finally called, had to remind them about the job, location and price. They said they would be out the following Monday. (all still very nice, Pete and his son Keith I think) Monday came and went and i gave up. The following week I came home from work and the trees were cut and a bill was left for $2,000. Weird but i was happy. The place wasn't left clean and 1 other tree I wanted trimmed wasn't done correctly but still...the main stuff was done. After hurricane Sandy, they stopped by because i had lots of trees down on the property. They seemed to have no idea who I was or that they were ever there. We walked around the property and came up with a price of $4,500 for all the work. I needed to do it and the price seemed fair because of the amount of trees 10+ They gave me a date the following week and never showed even though i stayed home from work. They called me later that day and blamed the rain even though again it didn't rain....they said they would call me in a week...never called. Then a month later they called and set a date for the 2nd week in January 2013.. I worked from home that day and they didn't show. I gave up on this company andf called 3 others for estimates. All gave me close estimates and I picked one to have the work done. Everything went smoothly. Last week I get a call from them asking if I'm ready to do the work. Are you serious???? Not only did I get 1 call but they called 3 times. They seem like really nice people and do nice work but how can you possibly plan anything with them?

Over all once work was started went very well!

He butchered up the first tree. If you look at it, it's not uniform. Left all the lumber on the ground, killing my grass. Came back about a month later. I reminded him about trimming our huge pine tree near the house. He acted like he didn't know what I was talking about. Didn't stick to the estimate. Tried to up the price. Said "the price for his blades went up". Really ??? He finally trimmed the rest of the trees. The group left without apologizing for breaking our two-piece cement birdbath. We discovered it when we walked around the yard. I sent a return-receipt letter with photos and an estimate to replace our birdbath. No response. Called every week for many weeks, leaving a polite message on their answering machine. No response.

Originally spoke to this company after the Halloween snow storm of 2011 (11/6/11). Very good in getting back to and giving me an estimate. In fact he came back the next day to start the job. He said he'd be back within 2 weeks to finish the job... well only got there December 14, almost a month and half later. In the month plus it took to get back to me, many of the branches fell on their own. I figured he would at least trim the spots where the branches fell so they would be clean cuts. So when I got home from work to look at what they did, I was very disappointed. The trimming was very minimal if any at all (as I mentioned many branches fell on their own). All the places that had hanging branches that fell during the past month or so all still have that broken off look. His crew didn't take all the debris with them. In fact he even left a mess behind. Many of my trees don't lose all of their leaves until practically the spring of the next year. I just finished clearing off my lawn for the seson last weekend, now I have to do it again. The 2 trees in the front that he worked on now have leaves all over the place. With other tree companies that I've hired, they keep the area the same as how they found it, not this one. When he called to get paid, I explained my dissatisfaction. All he had to say was, "well I gave you a really good price and I did what the contract says. In fact I spent 2 extra hours there and even trimmed your neighbor's tree at no cost. I'm out $600". Who asked him to trim my neighbor's tree, spend the time trimming the trees I paid you to trim. He actually to came to see what I was talking about and kept telling me I can do that, but it will be extra... that will be extra... that will be extra. WHAT DID I JUST SPEND $3,700 ON? He did say he would send the guys back to pick up the log that they left, but I said forget about. I just wanted to be done with this guy. Time to find a new tree service for next year.

Does business on a "hand-shake" basis. Concerned about doing a good job. (If desired) cuts branches into fireplace-sized segments. Happy to leave wood chips. Leaves property clean.
