Salesman used unprofessional pressure tactics to try and force us into a deal before we were finished getting estimates from other contractors. After quoting the original estimate, he started finagling other offers to get the price down (red flag). He wouldn't meet with us unless both homeowners were present. And in the end, was at least $20K over the other two offers. They claim their system is unique and patented, making it better than their competitors. He showed us a giant binder full of completed work tickets and letters of recommendation from the 80's and 90's - I kid you not, as if that's indicative of the work they are performing today. Ironically, the foreman of the contractor we ended up using used to work for this company. He said they were expensive and when I asked if their system was any different than what he was installing, he said no. This guy was just a foreman and had nothing to gain or lose by telling me what he did. Don't use this company. Maybe they do good work, I don't know, but at three times the cost they are robbing people blind. The company we used did an excellent job, and showed us every step of the way what they were doing. No matter what these folks say - they are no better than the rest, and due to their unscrupulous tactics are actually worse. Don't cave to their pressure tactics and get at least three prices before you select a contractor.

We got an estimate for waterproofing from Mid-Atlantic in the spring of 2016. They were the highest by far of the three estimates we got, and their sales tactics were very high pressure. It was a very unpleasant experience dealing with them, and I would not recommend contacting them. When we said no to their first price and that we wanted to get more estimates, they then started to lower their price, but only if we signed that day. It all seemed very gimmicky and manipulative. We went with a different company that was not high pressure, was recommended to us, and had a much lower price.

I'll try and keep this short. Mid-Atlantic came out and looked at a mysterious puddle we were getting in the middle of our basement. We were told that our existing french drains were inadequate or improperly installed and that we would need to install trenches along all four of the walls in the basement — a very extensive job. They then spent forty-five minutes sitting us down to listen to their sales pitch (sidenote: they won't let you schedule an appointment unless both homeowners are available, apparently so they can pitch both of you at the same time. Trust me, I tried). They quoted us $14k for the entire job. Thankfully, I signed up for Angie's List after that and called another company who figured out that it was actually just a problem with one of the boiler's in the basement. No issue with the drain at all. If they'd done all that work, it wouldn't have fixed the issue at all. I won't speculate if the quote they gave us with out of ignorance or a straight up attempt at taking advantage of a homeowner who admittedly doesn't know much about plumbing or basement waterproofing, but either way you slice it, it doesn't inspire any confidence at all. I would be very careful about using them. For someone who considers himself a fairly easy-going guy, even thinking about it now makes my blood run a little hot. Buyer beware.

The salesman spent about 2.5 hours at the house which included inspecting the basement, reviewing in detail using brochures, actual pictures of other jobs and video of their system and process. Steve was very thorough and answered all questions in a manner that could be understood. He provided a price and then made a call and came up with a lower price based on us scheduling the service. I felt this was a bit gamesmanship and sales dazzle dazzle, but I liked their system and thought the price was reasonable, but I had no other comparison point other than reading some other reviews on Angiie’s list. In hind site it probably would have been better to have gotten other estimates. However, after I agreed to price I had three days to back out and that is when I did more research on the internet. This included watching videos on YouTube of a basement water proofing contractor showing sub standard jobs. Based on this research I felt very confident in the system Mid-Atlantic offered and reinforced my preference to have it done right even if it was a little more costly. We scheduled the job and then had to adjust somewhat because of the township schedule for doing the inspection and my availability. The sub-contractor called on the scheduled morning and gave me the eta which he met. He spent time going over the process and then he and his team went to work opening up the floor and installing the drainage. Dan from their office was our primary contact and coordinated the various activities including getting the inspectors to come by. They did the inspection of the open floor and then the subcontractors came by and finished the system over the next two days. Dan then coordinated for the electrical contractor to come by and do the electrical work on the sump pumps. Next Dan coordinated the three final inspectors but the plumbing inspection failed because they wanted a sleve put on the pac piping going from the sump pumps to outside. Dan had someone from their service team come out and make the modifications and then coordinated the inspector coming back out again and it passed. We have had no water problems since they completed this service. I was happy with their system, installation process and their communication.
Description of Work: They installed their water proofing system to approximately 110 feet of cinder block basement wall including two sump pumps and one emergency battery back-up system on one of the sump pumps.

Note: this company offers a discount if consumers promise to write a letter of recommendation. Take all positive reviews with a grain of salt. Excellent product, but not worth the hassle of dealing with an utterly incompetent management that farms out the work to a third party and then goes missing in action for the duration of the project. Maybe if an employee from the company had supervised the crew or checked in occasionally, the work would not have failed inspection several times. I was dumbstruck when I asked the sales representative, Steve Billig, for the name and address of someone to whom I could send a formal letter of complaint: he told me with to write the letter to him personally! There have already been several negative reviews of Mid-Atlantic Waterproofing on Angie?s List. Our experience has been similar to what other reviewers have already written: ?Dealing with this Co. was a nightmare from start to finish.? ?They gave a quick high pressure presentation and a deal if you signed up right then.? ?The work was conducted by a third party contractor.? ?The salesman lied about everything. I don't think he said one thing that was true. I asked him about using jack hammers for plastered walls and he said no but he did use one.? ?The estimator came out and did a typical sales job. The original price was $14,000?This company comes in high and will come back with counter offers. The ?manager? came out and got it down to $10,000 (rounded off). Given all that they said they would do, it seemed fair, plus there was a guarantee.? ?Tactics can be misleading (not being upfront about the possible need to?)? ??buyer beware! Make sure they tell you all the possible issues with your particular basement before signing. And don't accept the first price. I later found someone who had the same work done for $7,000.? ?Terrible Experience: Overpriced, inferior workmanship, damaged my lawn, landscaping and basement windows. Arrogant sales?

We didn't contract with this company. Job not done
Description of Work: I called to build a sum pump hole,a d install a sum pump. We have one installed, but we wanted another one at the opposite side of our basement. The guy that came out was prompt and punctual. The job he recommended was not what we were looking to do. He was insisting in selling us what he wanted for us. We didn't do the job I was called several times after the visit to arrange for another visit in which a lower price was going to be offered. Every time they called I was clear in that was not what we wanted done, no matter how cheap. lastly after several months they stopped calling.

I only got to the point of getting an estimate from them (in addition to 5 other companies). Their price was by far the highest, the first time they came. They then said they would send the boss out to re-scope the project and re-price it more aggressively. Well he came and gave me a better price (which was also higher than all others) but then said I just happen to get an opening next week fi you take it I will knock off an additional $5,000 or so. I told them I needed to think about it... I received a third call from them stating that they wanted to send another boss out (which I thought they already did) I immediately told them no thanks, no need to see anyone else from your company, they already saw the job and should be able to get me the quote over the phone (btw: each time they came over was a 1.5-2 hour visit), they said they couldn't do that, I said no thanks. They continually called until I told them I hired someone else to do the job. They may do good work, I wouldn't know, but they are a bunch of scam artists. I found a local company in wall, NJ who came in with a much more aggressive price and spent the time to make sure the work was done right, addressed all of my concerns, and got the necessary permits ( which Mid-Atlantic was wiling to do without, hence the next week comment).
Description of Work: They only quoted the job for me. I was not happy with their professionalism and pricing scam they pulled on me.

Very high pressure. The salesman was told the price was too high even after all the "discounts" he was allowing me. He went through the usual phone calling and made me another offer --- still way too high. The job was done beautifully for about $4000 by another firm (whose name I, unfortunately have forgotten) almost three years ago and I am STILL getting calls from Mid-Atlantic offering to do the job for less than originally quoted. I have told the caller each time that the job was already finished and NOT to call me again. They just don't want to take "no" for an answer. I would never deal with a high-pressure, annoying company like that!

Update: 4/15/15 ~ Thanks to Angie's List this Co. reached out to us to "see how the service is going." After some back and forth calls that included me being called the wrong person, being told that I could receive an estimate to further extend the waterproofing service area in basement ( i think this person did not know I was for a couple of our conversations) and then finally scheduling to have a "senior" service tech come and assess the basement issues we found out that the original drain they installed in our rear basement entry had never been bolted down and was therefore clogged with mud and debris making the system compromised to incoming water. My husband scooped out the mess himself once the tech showed him. We are hoping this will amend the issue but we are still not sure. Only time will tell. The fact that this was never properly secured and that when we had tech's come and inspect the area they never thought to look at this area is a bit shocking but in my experience w/ Mid-Atlantic it is kind of not so shocking. I was also shocked but then not so shocked when I received a voice mail from the service manager yesterday asking me to "chang my review." This was the first time he ever mentioned this review. It was never spoken of formally prior. So to ask a customer to change their review of the Co. is a bit intrusive. I'm still not even sure this will solve our issues w/ the water in the basement. I do want to be fair and write all that has occurred, fair to their company but really I want to inform other potential clients. I see the customer service model for this company as completely self serving. There was never a time when this Co. acknowledged or apologized for their errors, our time wasted or their service flaws. I am certainly still not sold but will see how this latest info. impacts our basement over time.
Description of Work: Dealing with this Co. was a nightmare from start to finish. They did not properly assess the water issues in our basement and unfortunately we did not know it until they completed the work. Also, they outsourced the installation (rough casting and installing 2 sump pumps) to laborers who spoke no English and even damaged our property (broken toilet lid - which they hid). The foreman showed up for 5 minutes the first day and that was it. We had to haggle with them for months, maybe even a year to get every problem corrected and the staff including Lori, the receptionist at the time, was very nasty and even hung up on me. I found Dan Venet and Elinor to be most unhelpful and even hostile. Once you signed and payed this Co. they went from being so nice to turning into the enemy. The water kept coming in and we had to keep calling for repairs, they would come out and do patch jobs that never seemed to work. When we discovered that the problem was that their inspector had initially misdiagnosed the issue and we had to treat another wall they tried to charge me an additional $5000! I then filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau and Consumer Affairs. It wasn't until those formal complaints were lodged that they finally agreed to do further treatment of our basement and removed the fee. But it was a very unpleasant and stressful fight. I've never experienced such a negative Co. and hope to never again. We still get water in the basement but I can't bear to deal with them anymore, it gave me ulcers I'm sure.

They did a great job and were a wonderful company to work with. They had different teams for all the different jobs required to complete the work. It took them three days to complete everything and they worked very hard and efficiently. They were all very pleasant, thorough and clean. The quality was well worth the price and I found it to be fair compared to other estimates. I would definitely work with them again and highly recommend them.

The salesmen was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions. He was also very patient as we had our children home. He went over everything from the issues we saw with the basement, future plans for the basement, the issues he found and the system used by Mid-Atlantic. Did not feel pressured to go with them which is a plus. We had consulted with other firms and did not care for how they approached us as potential customers. A plus was that the consultation accorded on a Saturday afternoon. The work was conducted by a third party contractor. They were very professional. They left the basement clean after they had completed the work. They did however miss repairing one of the cracked walls. I believe they also used the water heater as a source for water. This would not be an issue if not for the slow leak we now have. Prior to the work, we had no leak with the water heater. After the work, we found a paper cup located at the spigot for the water heater. We contacted Mid-Atlantic to advise of the cracked wall that had been missed and the water heater issue. They scheduled a future appointment to address the missed cracked wall. However, when we mentioned our water heater issue, were advised to call a plumber. NOT the customer service response I was looking for. We know have to pay out of our pocket to have the slow leak addressed that was created by this work.
Description of Work: They installed 3 sump pumps. We had 2 already but they updated those sump pumps. Electrical work was completed for the sump pumps. Installed new drainage for the entire basement. Repaired a crack in the wall.

The work was excellent. The techs were very neat and efficient. The work turned out perfectly, just the way they promised. They were right on with the timeframe and pricing estimate. Midatlantic always does 3 things: 1) They come when they say they will 2) they do what they say they will and 3) They clean up as if they were never there. While this was a smaller project, it was the same when they did our entire waterproofing project in 2007. And Kellie and Dan are very professional to deal with over the phone. I have seen the other comments out of curiosity, and some complain about the pricing. They are not the cheapest option, but they are the best.....and you get what you pay for . Would you not want the best for something as important as waterproofing your basement?

The salesman lied about everything. I don't think he said one thing that was true. I asked him about using jack hammers for plastered walls and he said no but he did use one. The crew that came out barely spoke English. They had an argument downstairs about when they would get paid. He told me the job would get done in three days but rushed everything into one day. They hit the sewer pipe and water backed up in the upstairs bathroom. It was a disaster. It was too cold when they poured the cement and it sank. They had to come back out for that. The foreman that did the job had gotten fired. Every time they come out, they make things worse.

The salesman was very handed in his pitch, telling us that it was a 'now or never' situation. They also subcontracted the work without telling us. We found that the price was very inflated once we compared it with other people in the area. All of this considered, the overall quality was good and the product is working. There were some initial issues with the quality, but they did come fix most of them.

The initial salesman was at our house for ~2 hours and went into great detail about their process and materials. It was very informative but a little long. The initial price they came in with was $22k, which was quite higher than we were anticipating on spending. We met with a few other basement waterproofing contractors and we have to say that Mid-Atlantic had the most comprehensive system/plan and the most experience. We had a second sales meeting where we went back and forth on price until we eventually came to a point we both agreed on. The work was started on time and was done quickly and efficiently. The crew they sent were very hard workers, taking no breaks and working until 8PM after starting around 8AM in order to get the job done the second night. They cleaned up after themselves fully and three weeks later my basement is dry and smells a lot better. Great work all around.

Basement perimeter drains and 2 sump pumps were installed in Nov 2011. The basement has been dry ever since. I've had 2 follow ups with them since then that have both been helpful and professional. After the Oct 2013 hurricane in NJ we were without power for over a week. During that time the backup batteries on the sump pump went dead. I called Mid-Atlantic and they sent out a technician to examine as the system was still under warrantee. He diagnosed that the battery was no longer good and had additionally damaged the control unit. He ordered new units and came back the next week to install at no charge. They have been working great ever since. Most recently I called because a home inspector identified that the rubber plugs on top of each sump pump lid were missing. I contacted Mid-Atlantic and they immediately mailed me the two plugs and associated hardware... No questions. No cost.
