About us
Since 1977, JMC has been creatively and consistently working with homeowners to deliver their home improvement projects on-time and within budget. John MacDougall and his professional team have worked with hundreds of clients throughout the Morris County area over the past three decades and building a portfolio of successful renovations. We are proud of the work we’ve done in our community. Financing available. Award winning. Additional DBA - BY APPOINTMENT ONLY
My Wife and I decided that it was time to remodel our master bathroom. We met with several contractors and in the end decided that JMC was the right company for the job. There were a few factors that made us choose JMC which included, being in business since 1977, white glove services and punctual response time to our inquiry. The job took about 3 months from start to finish. During the whole process, the JMC team, especially Greg, who was the onsite improvement specialists, was very professional, courteous and provided updates every step of the way. We have worked with serval contractors in the past. One factor that sets JMC apart from the rest is that the owner John MacDougall truly cares about the client experience. After all the work was completed, John made a point to come and do a final walk through of our bathroom and make sure we were a 100% satisfied with the work that was completed. We look forward to working with the team at JMC in the future.

Had a pleasant call with one of their intake folks. She was professional and outlined their approach to a kitchen remodel which is a full gut of the space and cost indicates everything except appliances. She said that their entry-point (price wise) is $40k for a kitchen. This is well above my other estimates for our small 10.5 x 11.5 kitchen (split level home). No harm/Foul here... I am simply logging this discussion as an FYI for anyone researching the costs for kitchen remodels on a budget. Seems like they would do a solid job based on other reviews and they know the minimum project they want to work on (which is fine). I will keep looking.
Description of Work: Initial discussion via phone - it did not progress past that because of their entry-point price on kitchen remodel.

Response from JMC Home Improvement Specialists
Thank you for your feedback on our procedure. We, like you, want everyone to understand our pricing and our process. Often times, as I’m sure in this case, we cited our average kitchens, which are typically larger, not necessarily your project. Our intention was not to project the cost of an 11x12 kitchen, but to illustrate what the typical kitchen for JMC would cost. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We will be more careful in the future as to how we relay our information.

hahaha PERFECTLY. We had JMC remodel our kitchen 10 years ago; and I still love the results. They did a great job; they were always professional and considerate, bent over backwards to make things work when situations came up (Our house is a circa 1940's cottage, so anytime work is done on it, there are always surprises once the walls come down :)). The point is there was absolutely no question in our mind as to whom we would call once we decided to tear down the living and dining rooms. I'd been thinking about it for 10 years :), so of course, I had very solid ideas as to what I wanted. We worked with Tammy, the designer; and lo and behold made some changes due to her insightful imput. She just kept asking questions and throwing out suggestions until we got to a point where everyone was happy with the plan. We were told Jack would be the foreman; a great guy. No matter what time of day we had a question or wanted to add another thought, he called us right back and acted on whatever it was. But that's just the way they are. You ask and you receive. :) The carpenter on site every day, Mario, was another great guy...an artist. He just came in every day, did his thing, cleaned up every night, and he just wanted everything to be perfect. and it is. We thought we were going to live in the house while it was being gutted, but we changed our mind 2 days before go time. We stayed out of the house for about 10 days, which was a smart move, since the living and dining rooms are central to a small cottage. However, after 10 days we came back and lived on site while the work ensued. Mario made sure that the rooms were completely sealed off from the others; and he swept and vacuumed every night before he left so that we wouldn't track dirt throughout the other rooms during the remodel. He too asked us lots of questions as to whether we wanted things this way or that. He took his time to think about it; and he came back with suggestions and solutions. You just got the feeling every day that all of the people on the job cared about the project and wanted you to be sure you would be happy with the results. Same attitude of the owner, John....I guess he instills that attitude in all of his employees...great attitude, great work ethic, beautiful results. Let's face it. It would have been very easy to write a review immediately after the remodel. Once you see the dramatic change in the rooms, how could you not be happy....but six months down the road, you may start to notice all the little things that may not be so perfect. Well guess what...NOT. The rooms are perfect, so much so that we don't want to leave home' we are so happy with the results. We went from it just being a house to it being a home. Love it, love it. I would highly recommend this company for your remodeling needs. You will not be disappointed....because they won't let that happen.
Description of Work: Removed wall between living room and dining rooms, completely gutted both rooms, widened doorway from dining room into the kitchen, installed tile floor in dining room and partial living room, installed built in cabinets in both rooms, built radiator covers in both rooms and in 2 adjoining bedrooms, removed and installed new bay picture window, painted both rooms and cathedral ceiling, rebuilt storage area over the dining room

We couldn't be happier with how it went. As was the case with the earlier work, everyone at JMC was very professional in all phases of the job. Communication was great from the initial meeting right through the punch list, and we appreciated the care with which all the workers treated us and our home during the process. The work began very quickly after we signed the contract and they completed everything within the specified 6 week timeframe. There were some timing issues with the subcontractors doing the floors, but JMC was responsive to our concerns and we appreciated the fact that they were there to ensure that the results were up to their own high standards. We would not hesitate to use them again for future work, or to recommend them to friends and neighbors.
Description of Work: This was Phase 2 of a home remodel, with Phase 1 having been completed by JMC in December 2014 (see separate review.) This phase included: refinishing all the floors, installation of a new engineered floor on the family room level of our split level, a new roof, renovation of the family room, work on insulation and framing in the garage, and a number of other smaller items. The family room work included conversion of a wood burning fireplace to gas (necessitating a gas line being run from the basement), removal of a raised hearth and brick facing, and installation of a new tile surround.

We were very happy with JMC-- the entire experience. While they're expensive, they are a turn-key operation where after I spent the 2 hours with their designer picking out the elements of the bathroom, they did everything else. There are lots of detailed documents provided up front about the objectives of the job. I then had 2 1-hour meetings with their designer to pick everything, and then they detail all of that in documents. I don't love the experience of having to design everything, so for me, it was great to have someone help me pick out the different elements based on what I described that I liked/ didn't like. Once everything is finalized, then they schedule, get permits, etc. They were very communicative about what was happening when, and if we had any questions, they returned calls or emails promptly. Each morning of the build, they'd call before they arrived, and were always prompt. They cleaned up every day. Honestly, the biggest hassle we had with this construction was the fact that we shared our bathroom with our kids during this time. They finished within the window of time that they committed, and we love the way our bathroom looks now. I'd use them again for any major project that we have in our house.
Description of Work: We did a full gut and remodel of a bathroom (one the original master bath of the house-- now a full bath for the kids rooms) and repaired a bedroom ceiling/ lighting/ ductwork.
I am overjoyed with the results! The planning was made easier for us in that product samples were in their show room. Tammy, their designer, helped us coordinate colors and arrange the layout. All our requests were cheerfully met: specifically removal of connecting door, installation of grab bars in bath, extra wall insulation to deaden sounds, install solid bathroom door for same reason, installed light over bathtub(can now read in bath), quieter vent/heater fan, properly vented bath outside through roof, new sink, Corian vanity, bathtub, elevated toilet with Brondell seat(swisher type bidet), all new plumbing fixtures, and tiled wall and floor areas we requested. The project was completed with a great paint job. Some dings from demo were repaired and painted. An extra job was repair of a crack in dining area from house settling. They also painted it with the right color. I want to add that I have severe breathing issues. During the demo we did 3 overnights in a hotel but JMC took extraordinary care in managing the dust with a HEPA air cleaner as well as walling off the area with plastic doors and blowing the dust to the outside. I appreciated this extra care. Communication with the office and all workers was excellent. We were called, in advance every day, by that day's worker. Workers were punctual and polite as well as very competent. The only day they missed work was during a blizzard. They even helped my husband shovel our hilly driveway. I highly recommend JMC and definitely would use them in the future.
Description of Work: Gutted old 1956 master bath and completely upgraded it. Removed connecting door between sink and bath area enlarging the space. Upgraded all bathroom wiring. Repaired large crack in dining area from house settling and painted it. Installed new vanity and took door off linen closet and converted it to a linen cabinet with pullouts.

John MacDougall and his team at JMC get an A+ in my grade book. There are two things that really set them apart from other builders and remodelers that I have worked with or heard tales of (usually horror tales when it comes to contractors). John has a process that he follows from his first meeting through to the follow-up meeting when the job is complete. This process puts in writing everything the customer can expect from permit submission, plans, site preparation, demolition, construction, plumbing, electrical, commonly asked questions, etc. through to the customer care package that you receive in the mail following the job. The second thing that set them apart was the crew that they employ. Every team member that worked in my home was friendly, tidy and very skilled at their job especially Gyula, Tammy (design and troubleshooting), Barbie and the project manager, Jack. All my questions were answered promptly and the work exceeded my expectations. I received a call every morning to let me know what time they would arrive and I was perfectly comfortable leaving them in my home on days that I was not able to be there. I would have no hesitation to work with them on my next project and I have already recommended them to friends.

Everything was great. The planning process was extremely thorough. We especially appreciated John's patience during the planning process as we updated details, which resulted in very little need for follow-ups later on. Everyone was very courteous and professional, and the job site was kept clean. They always called before they came every day, and the project was kept on schedule. We also appreciated JMC handling all aspects of the project including finding most of the necessary subcontractors (excepting 2 discussed at contract signing). We enjoyed working with the owner, John, the project manager, Jack, and the site manager, Tom, and would like to work with them again on future projects.

Undertaking a major remodel is a daunting prospect that we approached with some trepidation, but we couldn't be happier with our choice of JMC. They did a simply outstanding job is all respects. Each JMC staff member was knowedgeable, professional, respectful and personable from the first meeting through the final walk through. They worked with us closely on the design and listened carefully to our needs in drawing up the plans. Both the time frame and budget were as projected and communication with the company was great. Their craftspeople went above and beyond our expectations. As just a single example of their attention to detail, in one bathroom, we have a crawl space entry in a prominent place that needed to be covered. Rather than just putting on a hinged door, they took the initiative to craft a flat door panel attached with magnets that is flat enough to allow a picture to hang over it easily. That was just one example of many. We lived in our home during the entire 3 month process and construction was staged to provide us with the least amount of disruption possible. They cared about us daily throughout the process and we have already contacted them about continuing with our family room level. We would trust our home to no one else with this level of confidence.
Description of Work: JMC did a large-scale remodel for us, including all 3 bathrooms, new closets, a completely renovated kitchen, all new windows, all new doors (both internal and exterior), closing off an exterior door and removal of existing staircase and deck, a new deck, new garage doors and openers, complete exterior painting and facade repairs, some interior painting, removal and replacement of interior balustrade, upgraded electrical service, and many other smaller things. The biggest changes were in the kitchen and the two upstairs bathrooms. All three were gutted back to the studs, and the space for the 2 bathrooms was reconfigured into a different and much more useable layout.
This is our first experience having a home renovation. It went very well and on time. Everyone in the company was pleasant and professional. They took great care to get details in place ahead of time so that the job could run smoothly once it began. Small glitches were corrected immediately and without fuss. At the end of each day care was taken to keep the area clean with minimum disruption to home traffic. Since this was our only full bathroom and we would be without a shower, the tub area was tiled and grouted first and shower curtain rod up so that we were able to shower before the entire bathroom was complete. That was really helpful! We are extremely happy with the materials we chose and appreciated their direction while making selections. We liked that the gentleman doing all the work loved tiling and took pride in his work. We would use them again in a heartbeat. Their attention to detail is what sold us on hiring them and we were not disappointed at all with the results.
Description of Work: Completely gutted existing 65-yr-old bathroom. No modifications to layout of fixtures. Moved a vent stack so that we could gain more headroom in shower/tub area. Tiled all walls and floor. New window, tub, toilet, vanity, medicine cabinet, light fixtures and tub light/exhaust fan, towel bars, corner shelves in tub/shower, hook, hinges on door, new walls and paint.
This was a major renovation for us. We used JMC for all aspects of this work, from the initial design and materials selection through to the demolition, construction and finishing. From the beginning, John MacDougall (the owner) was deeply involved in the process from the initial consultation and proposal to periodic inspections of the work in progress. As this was our first major contracting project, we were extremely cautious and wanted all of our design decisions made before the first piece of sheetrock was removed. While this extended the design and contract process, JMC staff were very accommodating and helpful, and seemed to genuinely care that we ultimately be happy with the results. In particular, their in-house designer, Tammy, was indispensable to our renovation. Her design sense and practical approach was invaluable in helping us make informed decisions. The work lasted 3 months. At the beginning of the project we received a detailed work schedule which laid out all the expected work days, when materials were scheduled to arrive and what specific work would be performed on each day. The ultimate timeline was remarkably close to the initial projections (off mostly due to weather delays from a VERY snowy winter and also to a couple of minor changes we made to the project scope). In terms of cost, we had no surprises. The projected costs in the contract were the amounts we paid. (Actually, there were a couple of differences due solely to additional items we added the project began, such as adding a garbage disposal.) There were several teams of workers who came over the course of the project, each team having a different specialty or focus (demo team, carpentry team, plumbing team, etc.). All of these teams (with the exception of the electricians) were employees of JMC, and essentially displayed a professionalism and focus on quality that continually put us at ease. Coming in to this process, we were not entirely comfortable with the idea that we would have complete strangers in our house every day. We were home throughout the project and were pleasantly surprised by how comfortable we ended up feeling with these folks in our house. There was someone working on-site just about everyday, they would call early each morning to let us know when they expected to arrive, and if the team needed to miss a day we would know about it ahead of time. (Even when we expected the week between Christmas and New Year's to be a down week, someone still came to keep the project moving.) Materials were always here before they were needed (except for some replacement cabinets, but more on that later). What was especially wonderful about their work practices was that the work areas were all walled-off with protective plastic, floors were protected with special coverings, and the team ALWAYS made sure that the work spaces were cleaned at the end of each shift (debris removed and the floor at least swept clean or shop-vac'ed). We were extremely pleased with the quality of the work. The work done directly by JMC (carpentry, plumbing, drywall, tiling, etc.) were done to well more than our satisfaction. There were a few relatively minor hiccups (mostly with the electrical) but John and our project manager Jack responded quickly and addressed everything. At this point, I also want to make special mention of Mario, the master carpenter we had assigned to lead our project. There was a significant amount of framing that this project required (creating a tray ceiling to lower a cathedral ceiling, installing a raised header...) and detail work (tub surround, cabinet installations, detail trim...) and the work he performed was impeccable. Even more valuable to us was the precision with which he worked and care he took in all his efforts. I do not believe he would have done a better or more thorough job if this were his own house. The only real wrinkle and cause of minor delay was due to a problem with our kitchen cabinets. We were very unhappy with the excessive knottiness and imperfections of the wood. We had an extended disagreement with the manufacturer, Wellborn Cabinets, but JMC took our side and pushed to get this issue resolved to our satisfaction. Throughout the entire project, the staff from JMC was professional and gracious, and they were extremely flexible in working with us through the few changes we made along the way. We are thrilled with our new kitchen and bath, and both exceeded our expectations. We will DEFINITELY use JMC again in the future.

The work JMC did was fantastic - we could not be more satisfied with how the project turned out. JMC did everything they said they would do and did it in a careful, professional, and timely manner. The quality of their work is outstanding. . They listen patiently and try to give the customer exactly what the customer wants. One last point. JMC is a very honest business. I found that you could always trust them to do the work properly. Any homeowner would be fortunate to have them renovate their home!! .
Description of Work: JMC totally remodeled our master bedroom by combing it with another bedroom. They also built us a new master bathroom that was twice the size of our original bathroom. The work required structural changes to our home, replacing windows, floors, doors, and extensive reworking of the plumbing and heating . JMC also totally renovated another bathroom.

It was a pleasure working with JMC! Having your kitchen totally remodeled from the ground up in general is never a fun thing to live through however these guys made it as painless as possible. We knew what was happening every day with a morning phone call, telling us who would be here that day and what would be happening. There was no guessing or chasing people around for status. At the end of day, I'd return from work to find the house and jobsite safe and clean. They also completed the whole job within a month, a day didn't go by when someone wasn't here. No one disappeared to finish a job somewhere else, we were made to feel our job was their priority. The entire staff from 1st contact to our final meeting are top notch professionals with a focus on making the customer happy. In addition to being focused on customer service, they also perform top notch quality work. The house looks beautiful! My family couldn't be happier. We plan on doing a remodel of our basement next year and one thing I don't have to worry about is who will be doing the work, JMC will be.

The experience was simply amazing, from the first call to the office and talking with Debbie all the way to finished project is a wholly satisfying experience. John's team are all friendly, professional & courteous as well as really good at their job. John follows-up throughout the job to ensure you are satisfied, the onsite team let you know every day when they are arriving, dust is vented and coverings put on all the floors from the entrance way to the job site to keep the house as clean as possible. We were kept informed of small issues that arose as the job progressed - no detail was tried to be kept from us. At the end of the process, JMC will send you a survey in which one of the questions asks what JMC can do to improve the experience. I thought for a long time, but I stumped. There really isn't any aspect of the process that I could ask that could go better, or a suggestion to improve the overall process. All in all this is how working with contractors ought to be but sadly never seems to be.
Description of Work: JMC did a complete remodelling of our bathroom
We chose JMC for our bathroom renovation because they promised excellent workmanship, ongoing communication and expert guidance in selecting materials and colors. And they delivered on everything they promised. In our early meetings with owner John MacDougall, we described what we were looking for: a larger shower and a more upscale look to the bathroom, and he and his team took it from there. We met with designer Tammy, who walked us through our choices of shower and floor tile, cabinetry, accessories and wall colors at the JMC showroom. While some folks enjoy selecting materials, we don't, and Tammy helped us choose all our design elements from samples in about an hour, which was great. JMC arranged for the building permits, and once work began, we received phone calls every morning to let us know when someone would be at our house. John "Pol" did the construction and tile work on our project, and it's obvious he is a perfectionist and skilled craftsman. He consulted with us when he needed to, but most of the time he worked on various stages of the renovation and kept us updated on his progress each day. Once he had finished his part of the project, JMC called in other experts to build and install the custom glass shower enclosure, a process that took about three additional weeks. From start to finish, we appreciate the professionalism of every member of the JMC team that we worked with and are happy with the results.

JMC is a dream to work with and their services are first class all the way. They take all the worry and stress out of home improvement with their professionalism and excellent workmanship. When hiring a contractor, you generally have four major concerns: 1. Will the final price be more than the estimate? 2. Will the contractor abandon me for another job before my project is done? 3. Will they do a good job? 4. Can I trust them in my home when I'm not there? From the start, JMC made sure that we never had to worry about any of these things. They gave us a firm contract price and stood by it. They coordinated the services to be performed in such a way that no time was lost on our project. Mario was there every single day and kept us apprised of what would get done on a daily basis every step of the way. The work performed was of the best possible quality- it even pleased my husband whose standards are impossibly high. Everything was done meticulously and thoughtfully. Our input was always encouraged and respected. Our home very well taken care of while they worked. They were UTTERLY clean and respectful of our house and our privacy. Any issues that came up with materials ordered for us were dealt with swiftly and professionally. We made three change orders along the way that stretched our a schedule a bit and they were more than amenable to all of them. An added bonus is being able to sit with their designer, Tammy, in their showroom and select materials for your project. Every JMC employee involved in our project was a pleasure to deal with and was genuinely concerned with our satisfaction. They saw to it that our renovation was worth every penny we spent- which is one of the things I appreciated most. It simply doesn't get any better than that.
Description of Work: Renovate master bath and hall bath
We could not be happier with JMC's customer service and craftsmanship. JMC worked with us at every step of the process, making suggestions along the way but taking our input as well. Our point of contact called us each morning to let us know when the workers would arrive, and what they would be doing that day. They arrived on time and were friendly and helpful. They left the work site perfectly clean, and we had minimal dust in the rest of the house (a feat considering that they had to remove all of the drywall and install/finish hardwood flooring). The JMC staff were always available to answer questions and provide advice. They were perfectionists, and proactively fixed issues without us having to point them out. JMC completed our kitchen on time and on budget, with no surprises along the way. The end result is beautiful and solid. We know we will enjoy it for years to come. We would, without hesitation, recommend JMC to other homeowners that are looking for a reliable contractor that takes pride in its (excellent) work.
Description of Work: JMC renovated our kitchen top to bottom. They knocked down a wall and increased the size of another wall opening. They installed hardwood flooring and matched it perfectly to an adjacent room. They installed kitchen cabinets, countertop, backsplash, appliances and lighting.

We would not hesitate to recommend JMC for your home improvement project. The quote for our project was not the lowest one we received but we felt they offered the best combination of quality workmanship with skilled craftsmen. They were very professional from the first meeting throughout our planning and the actual work phase. We met several times during the planning phase and were impressed with their willingness to actually listen to what we wanted to achieve from the project. This took several months but it was time well spent as we changed the plans and the final product is exactly what we were looking for. They work as a team with a project manager, kitchen designer and lead carpenter. George the lead carpenter for our project was always on the job site. This continuity helped to keep the project on schedule and helped to keep small problems from becoming big problems. But I have to say we were pleasantly surprised that we didn't have many problems. I can't say enough good things about this approach. I felt very much at ease leaving my home and going to work each day. I didn't feel like I had to worry about was going on while we were gone because I knew George was there and he was on top of all the details. Everyone who came into our home was professional, very respectful of our home and very pleasant to work with. We received a phone call each morning from the lead carpenter to let us know when he would be arriving. Overall we felt that each team member took a sense of ownership and pride in their work. We're enjoying our new space!

JMC has highest standards of professionalism and quality. Jack (project manager) personally oversees the job. When there were surprises (rotted wood behind the wallboard), they provided a revised estimate quickly and stuck with it. JMC also does an excellent job of communicating options. All jobs have been on time and within budget. John McDougall (owner) takes time to conduct a personal post-job visit to ensure everything is satisfactory. I will continue to call JMC with home improvement projects.
Description of Work: JMC has redone two bathrooms for me in the past two years - as well as a number of smaller projects (replace doors and windows, paint, replace water-damaged siding).

They did a very good job. They were clean, put all kinds of protection on the floors. This is the second time I used them because they are very good. I have recommended them to others.
Description of Work: They gutted the whole bathroom and remodeled it.

Can't say enough great things about JMC. From the very first meeting with John until the completion of our renovation, JMC was superb. Everyone - office staff, design team, skilled workers, electricians, craftsman - was courteous and professional. Tom, our project manager, was on top of every detail and made living through a 2-storey 4-month renovation extremely easy. Our new kitchen, bar area, fireplace, master bath, finished basement (w/full bath and wine room) are all beautiful and will be enjoyed for many years to come. Would whole-heartedly recommend JMC to everyone.
Description of Work: Open concept kitchen, bar area, seating area w/fireplace (was previously 3 rooms), new electrical and plumbing where needed, framing and sheetrock, insulated the attic, new stairs into the basement, new hallway configuration and railing, installed a whole house generator, painted, new master bath, finished basement with full bath and wine room, tiled basement floor, new windows in basement, outdoor cooking area (using granite from original kitchen), soffits, recessed energy efficient lighting, garage storage and new flooring and lighting.

We love dealing with JMC. They do such a great job and are so easy to deal with. Joe and his partner did a great job ripping off the old siding and spraying the foam insulation and finally putting up the beautiful new siding. Val, Barb and Anthony did all the touch up painting outside and inside and it looks great. This is the second project we have used JMC for - the first was a new laundry room/bathroom last September which also came out fantastic.
Description of Work: Re-insulated our house and put new siding up . Also put in a new bay window, front door and side window

From demolition to the finishing touches, the JMC crew was respectful of our home, our pets and us. We would receive a call each morning, telling us who was coming and once they arrived, would tell us what they would be doing that day and the next. We always knew what to expect. Before starting the demo, our floors were covered to protect them and each night the bathroom itself was cleaned up as well the area outside of the bathroom. Everyone in our home and at the office were great; attentive to details, friendly and communicated with us on a consistent basis. We are now planning on remodeling our kitchen and will only work with JMC on this and any other home improvement projects!
Description of Work: JMC Home Improvement Specialists completely changed an existing bathroom in my home. The space in the original bathroom was completely underutilized. John MacDougall and Tammy Apolonia designed a beautiful, stream-lined space which increased the storage space significantly and the utility of the room considerably. What was once a long counter with a single faucet is now a beautiful 2 sink counter top plus a linen closet.

I ended up calling customer service at Angie's to complain because I feel that these vendors affect the image of the company. You told me to write a review so here it is. I believe vendors should state if they do commercial or work with investors so it prevents a bad situation arising that is unnecessary. Unfortunately I do not remember the date so well but it was over the phone so I have no record of when they finally called me but I know I had to wait to here from them for a while. Work is work and in these times I do not believe companies should be mistreating customers for helping put food in their mouths. God bless you JMC with that type of attitude.
Description of Work: I am a new investor in the area. I am networked with many other investors to improve the community one home at a time. I live in the area I want to invest and therefore have a vested interest in the upkeep of the community and also very aware of construction costs. To top it off I also need repairs in my home. I liked the advertisement for JMC so decided to give them a call. When I finally heard from them to discuss if they would be willing to work with investors and possible respond to a bid for a home repair and upgrade they stated the did not do bids or work with investors. They demeanor of the person was negative after having to wait a week for the response. I was a Quality Assurance Manager in a few companies prior to my new business and I would never treat a customer with the negative attitude of these people.

Response from JMC Home Improvement Specialists
As a home remodeler in business since 1977, we have learned a lot and one critical element is how to best utilize our time and resources. We are a residential remodeling company, working directly with the homeowner. We do our best work when we have on-going communication and involvement from the homeowner; we have never worked with investors nor do we work on commercial property. Our website and Angie’s List profile clearly state that we work with homeowners and that we are a residential home remodeling company. We also do not offer handyman and/or repair services knowing that our best work is not on these type of services. It is always unfortunate when someone has a negative experience with JMC in any situation, and we certainly do not intentionally do this. We are sorry that [member name removed] had this experience and hope that she has found a contractor who can service her investor and repair needs.

He wanted to know my life history and WHY I was doing the remodel. Totally creeped me out.
Description of Work: I asked for a quote for a room makeover, which was provided. Overpriced.

Response from JMC Home Improvement Specialists
JMC is always disappointed when someone doesn’t feel comfortable with us. As a result, we would like to apologize for any uncomfortable feelings. As to our practice of asking lots of questions, we believe it is part of a planning process that contributes to the overall success of a project and a relationship. Knowing why someone wants to do a project, what they are looking for in a contractor, as well as how they would prefer us to work in your home, gives us the information that we need to have a successful project. If our questions or the delivery of them disturbed you, we are sorry. We would also like to offer our expertise, free of charge, to answer any questions you may have about the complexities of your job.
