Our renovation for both bathrooms went flawlessly from start to finish. I found everyone who works at JMC from those in the office to all who came to the house to do the work very professional and responsive. We had no reservation leaving them in our home working, while we were at work. We were called every morning to advise us when we could expect our doorbell to be ringing. Throughout the entire process, everything was done on time as planned and according to the payment plan we agreed to. Once everything was completed, we received a package in the mail containing an organized folder with all the booklets for our selections, for future reference. If you like structure, process, and service, do not hesitate to call them.
Description of Work: 2 Bathroom remodels - complete renovations . We made all of our selections through JMC - tiling for floors and showers, fixtures, cabinetry, counter tops, toilets. The only purchase I had to make on my own was the decorative lighting, which JMC installed. They provided the specific timing for our hall bath first. Once that was done, exactly as planned, they began our Master Bath. They arranged for all the Town Inspections, too. Easy!!!

The entire JMC team was terrific to work worth, starting with John, who helped define the parameters of the job and walked us through the total process. John’s designer, Tammy, was instrumental thereafter in guiding us through selection of cabinets, hardware, countertops and plumbing fixtures. Once the total project was mapped out, JMC provided a 20+ page proposal detailing every facet of the job, including elevation drawings (showing all walls, proposed placement of cabinets, appliances, location of electrical outlets, etc.), all materials to be used, as well as cost per project phase. Once approved, the demolition and construction process went smoothly, guided by Jack’s oversight and outstanding work by the lead carpenter and project leader, Tom. Start to finish, the project lasted approximately 10 weeks. We highly recommend JMC to anyone looking to remodel a kitchen (or bathroom).
Description of Work: JMC worked to create our dream kitchen by removing a wall to double the room’s size, building a large custom island, installing all new cabinets, granite countertops, backsplash, appliances, range hood and new hardwood floor, along with complete new lighting and electrical.

Our side hall colonial house was built in 1918, and we wanted to make sure we worked with people who had experience with old homes. We also wanted to hire someone who would handle the project from start to finish- specifically, deal with obtaining permits, coordinating with plumbers, electricians, dry wall specialists, etc. From the moment we first contacted JMC, we knew we were in good hands. Debbie was the first person we spoke with- she asked general questions about what we wanted done, our budget, and expectations. From that first phone call to the last, she was pleasant and simply a pleasure to deal with. John MacDougall (owner) came out to our home to see the space and get to know us and what we wanted. He walked us through the JMC process, and we could immediately tell he cared, and wanted the project to be a good fit for both JMC and us. Why we hired JMC: their good reviews; we liked that they took care of everything, including materials and design; John is a hands on-owner; they are extremely organized and professional. With JMC, we had a great experience designing our new space. They thought of a way to design the space that we would never have been able to think of ourselves. Every detail was picked in their office showroom- which saved us time and energy! Tammy walked us through it all very logically and guided us along the way. She answered every question we had with patience, and she was wonderful to work with! Jack acted as our project manager, and there isn't a nicer guy. He communicated with us regularly, and we knew our house was in excellent hands. The quality of JMC's craftsmanship was flawless. I am a perfectionist, and came home every day amazed at what I saw. The tile in our bathroom, on the floor throughout the space, and back-splash was literally done with such care and attention to detail, that I am still amazed when I look at it all. We trusted them in our home for 12 weeks, never worrying who was there, or what we would come home to at the end of the day. During the course of the work, they identified a serious issue related to wiring throughout the house, that dated back to the 1918 construction. They immediately notified us, and put us in touch with the electrician that they use for their projects. While it was very upsetting that we had this unforeseen issue arise, the electrical company not only took care of everything (rewiring our entire house), they were just as professional and reassuring as JMC. The extra cost was painful, but putting our minds at ease in making our home safer was worth the price. Overall, we are super happy with our new space and gladly recommend to others. Without a doubt we will hire JMC again. In fact, we have had a few times where we have reached out to them for advice (not related to our renovation), and they were super responsive and helpful. JMC truly cares about their clients long after the project is complete. Their reputation for quality is well-deserved.
Description of Work: We hired JMC to completely renovate our kitchen, and add a full bathroom and mudroom to our home.

It went so smoothly, finished on budget and on time.. Our powder room is beautiful, we had some carpentry, wainscoting, work done on the bottom half which JMC's in house carpenter made saving us money vs. buying cabinetry it's perfect. The staining was especially challenging due to the age of the original shiplap and the variations in the wood-their in house stainer/painter was phenomenal-I don't think anyone would notice that the wood around the new windows in the bedroom is not original to the home-it matches amazingly well! We love our lake house-but their are still more projects to take on and every time I will be calling JMC!
Description of Work: This is the second time we've hired JMC to do work on our lake home. It was very important to us to maintain the historical integrity and feel of our home and JMC delivered over and above our expectations. We needed to have wall paper removed in 4 rooms-and I'm talking a lot of wallpaper-backs of doors & the ceiling! New windows installed in 3 bedrooms, staining to match the original shiplap wood around the window frames and paint. We also gutted our powder room-new toilet, new vanity, lighting, venting, etc.

Every aspect of JMC’s remodel of our bathroom went as promised. Selecting tile and fixtures in the showroom was convenient, and John and Tammy provided tremendously helpful expertise throughout the design process. The demolition phase was impossibly neat—except for the plastic draped around the bathroom door and the stairway, there was no evidence that any work was being done in the house. Our kids made more of a mess than the demolition team. JMC provided daily updates throughout the remodel so we knew exactly what was going to happen each day. The end result is excellent, due in large part to Mario’s meticulous attention to detail. We plan to use JMC for our next remodeling project and we enthusiastically recommend them to anyone considering home improvement work.

Bottom line: The project was essentially finished by 9/15 and we had a working kitchen at that point. There were a number of punch list items which were completed after that time due to the cabinet manufacturer having to replace a custom shelf because the wood didn’t match the cabinets, and a couple of damaged cabinet doors. We would recommend JMC without reservation for any home project and especially any project as complicated as this one.
Description of Work: In early February of this year we approached JMC about remodeling our kitchen. The project involved moving a load bearing wall out 8 feet as well as gutting the original vintage 1968 kitchen. We had previously remodeled 3 bathrooms with JMC and were familiar with the cost structure, their ability to complete projects on-time, their design capabilities and the quality of their work. We also knew from their previous work that they would be dependable, respectful of our home, professional, courteous, and qualified to do this big job. However as a price check we did consult with another company and found their estimates for this work to be very similar. Based on this we signed a contract in early February for the design stage of the work. What we had underestimated was how long the design phase would take. We had expected to be ready to go by May 1, and work actually didn’t start until late June. The delay was in part due to delays in getting the permits and simply the amount of work that we and JMC had to do. We worked with John and Tammy on the design. Jack headed the project. Actual work started on 6/15/2016 with work expected to take 10-12 weeks. One thing everyone needs to understand about a project like this is that there are many things out of the contractor’s control (inspection delays, weather, damage during delivery, wrong item shipped, etc.). However the contractor does have control of when people show up. What was impressive about JMC was that someone was on-site every day, except for 3 days when we were waiting for the cabinets to be delivered. Workers were on-site by 7:30 a.m. almost every day. It is worth noting that this was in spite of some health issues of one of the lead carpenters and required significant juggling on JMC’s part. As with any project of this magnitude unexpected “stuff” happens. The first was an error in the original drawing about the position of the support for the load bearing wall we were moving. This led to a narrower vaulted ceiling in the extension, and a repositioning of the dry bar going against one wall. Fortunately, we had decided not to put a skylight in the ceiling as there wasn’t room in the final design. This does point out however that JMC’s process for comparing the design drawing to the reality of the construction could use a check by the program manager earlier in the process. There were also some other issues we ran across, in particular some rotted plywood under the kitchen floor. In all cases these unexpected issues were addressed immediately and resolved to our satisfaction without delaying the project. As defined by the contract these issues are the owner’s responsibility which contributed to some of the price increase over the original estimate. That said, all of the cost overrun other than this issue was due to our making small upgrades during the build process. As an example, we chose tile for the back splash, and wood flooring which were more expensive than the allowance in the contract. Again this is an owner obligation and our choice. As a little bit of an aside, during the demolition, there was some small damage to the other side of kitchen walls. This is the contractor’s responsibility unless caused by something wrong with the building. As expected JMC was a pleasure to work with and they fixed these issues.

John and the entire JMC team are one of the most professional and meticulous contractors I have ever worked with and I would highly recommend them to anyone thinking about doing work to their house. From our initial meeting with John, I was given the impression he took great pride in his work, but once we met with the rest of the team, and saw how they worked, we understood it wasn't just John, but the entire organization. Tammy, JMC's designer, held our hand through the entire design process and made making decisions about the cabinets, flooring, counter tops, etc. a breeze. JMC handled all purchases and deliveries which meant no worrying on our end. Tammy also worked with us through the entire project, making sure we were happy with all our decisions and even showed up to our house to make adjustments halfway through the project after I had called her with a question. Once construction started, we were even more impressed. Jack, JMC’s foreman, was always available if something came up and he went above and beyond to make our kitchen perfect. Their carpenter, Henry, was there EVERY day (which is a shock in comparison to some contractors)! I cannot speak highly enough about Henry, who made sure our kitchen came out perfect. On day 1 Jack showed us a calendar of how the next 6 weeks of work would go, and working in commercial real estate, I thought that there was no way they would keep to that timeline. Amazingly they finished EXACTLY on schedule and I thank Henry, Jack, Tammy and Val (JMC’s painter) for that. Their professionalism, cleanliness, and attention to detail made the entire project as painless as a kitchen remodel can be. I am still in shock how our kitchen turned out and how amazing our experience was with JMC! If you are debating which contractor to use, choose JMC.
Description of Work: JMC did a complete gut renovation of our kitchen, which included taking down the wall between our dining room and kitchen as well as opening up the door to our family room and putting in a support header.

Fantastic! I contracted JMC to remodel two bathrooms. I could not be more satisfied with the entire experience. From picking out the fixtures at their showroom to the end result, it was a smooth process. The workers are professional, courteous, show up timely and regularly and clean up at the end of each day. I would definitely recommend JMC for any home remodeling needs.

For me business is simple: People, Process and Product, in JMC’s case they nailed (no pun intended) all three. People – We really appreciated working with their entire crew. Everyone on site was polite, articulate, and quick to respond to any request. They did show a high concern for our comfort during the project. We especially enjoyed working with Tammy, George, Debbie, and of course John. Process – Starting right at the beginning when we interviewed each other to make sure we were a good fit to work together, a great thing to do. The design process with us describing to John and Tammy what we were looking for and them designing what we wanted. The patience and support as we changed up things during the design was process was appreciated. The contract and design document, I think the final one was approximately 30 pages, clearly laid out what they were going to do, and gave us a clear picture of what to expect. We agreed on a 6 week’s timeline, and their team completed all the heavy work in 5. The team was here every day, and we could see the progress each day. Product –2 components here 1) workmanship, 2) The actual products installed. The workmanship is all of the highest quality, small things like - that the crew determined the corbels were not the best look for our island and ordered new ones is much appreciated. The tile work both in the kitchen and master bathroom is really stunning. When I look at the kitchen floor, and realize every tile had to be cut, I am amazed. Everything installed, starting with the smallest items right thru the cabinetry, granite counter tops, new door, and garden window was all of the highest quality. In summary, JMC delivered a superior experience. When we started we had our concerns, about disruption to our lives, and our pets. While the 5 weeks seemed long as we went thru them, we survived with only the normal disruptions and are glad we did the remodeling. I have told JMC they are free to use us as a reference.

I am absolutely thrilled with the total renovation/2 story addition that JMC did to my 1947 home. The house was taken down to the studs and then completely rebuilt in a more open concept design. I now have new ceilings, walls, all new wiring and plumbing, 35 windows, all new doors including electric garage doors, all new hardwood floors, new roof, new furnace and HVAC for the 2nd floor, new recessed lighting throughout the house, a greatly expanded kitchen with state of the art appliances and 3 new gorgeous bathrooms. All this was done within 6 months and within budget. There were no surprises or mistakes. The few change orders were for additional work I chose to have done. Thanks and sincere appreciation to owner John MacDougall and his extremely talented and hardworking staff of Rick, George, Tammy, Jack, Jessie and Debbie and to all their very capable sub-contractors. What a delight the entire process was, with absolutely stunning results!

The website was very attractive and thought that I would be able to find a contractor that would work with my family to complete my house the way I wanted. When I talked to the screener, I was told that a kitchen was a minimum of 40K and that the bathrooms were a min of 10K. The lower level was not sufficient to the company unless they got the other rooms to do at the same time. I also felt that the selection of materials since they already had a cost determined would be for whatever they got inexpensive and not tailored/custom made to my needs. I was so put off by the person that I talked to that I chose not to waste my time with the company to talk to anyone further. I will take my business elsewhere. However, the website should remove the comment of no job is too big or too small.
Description of Work: I was looking to have my lower level and family room done. I was also considering finishing my upper level bathrooms and kitchen. Not sure if I would accomplish the lower level first and then the upper at separate times or all together. .

Everyone we dealt with was very courteous and professional. Its been about 10 months since the bathroom was torn down to the studs and remodeled with no real issues. Everything went about as smoothly as could have been expected and it looks great. A very important thing for us was that everything John discussed with us upfront during the estimate phase about cost and timing is what happened.

We had JMC remodel our master bathroom. They did a terrific job; we are very happy with the way it turned out and the entire experience working with their team. I highly recommend JMC to anyone who needs any kind of home improvement or remodeling work. We received several bids for the job. JMC did not come in with the lowest but despite this we choose them anyway. John MacDougall, the president of JMC took great care discussing the job with us, what we wanted and worked with us to come up with the best design. Tammy, the designer guided us in finding the right materials and colors for the bathroom. They then drew up very accurate plans so there was no question what we were getting. JMC also managed the permit process for us with the town. The job started on the day they said it would. The five week project was finished is six weeks, the delay in finishing was no fault of JMC. Mario did most of the work. He was great, very professional and meticulous. He called every day to let us know what time he would arrive- he was always on time. At the end of each day he cleaned up. If we ever need more work to be done in the future JMC will be the first and only one we will call.

Our experience with JMC was great. They were very professional from start to finish. They were very meticulous with the initial inspection, quotation, review, drawings, throughout the work, and upon completion. They said what they were going to do and then did what they said. The men who worked on the bathroom came every day. They called every morning to make sure we knew they were coming and what time. They kept everything neat and clean at all times. The materials used were of good quality. We met their decorator/designer at their showroom and she helped us to pick out all the materials. JMC handled all material purchases and deliveries which went smoothly. They gave us a total time estimate for the work and, for the most part, finished in that timeframe. The new shower doors came in wrong and we had to wait a few weeks for the replacements but was not JMC's fault. They came and installed as soon as they arrived. We are planning on having them remodel our next bathroom in the near future.

I contacted JMC because they were near the top of the list with the highest number of reviews with an 'A' grade in my area. Although I have not decided to hire JMC at this time, I am leaving this review because I was impressed by JMC's professionalism and consult that was provided through our initial few conversations. John MacDougall took the time to understand the details of my project and what my objectives were. I appreciated that he also took the time to explain JMC's process and approach to the remodel and helped me assess what I am really expecting from my contractor. I have decided to tackle my project differently, but my experience was nothing but positive and will certainly consider JMC for future projects.

Just under 10 years ago, I had remodeled both our master and hall bathroom, installing new cabinets, counter sink fixtures, lighting, and wallpaper/paint. I stopped short of tearing out the aging fiberglass tub and shower enclosures, as they really weren't in bad shape and the scope of the work was greater than my time availability and skill level would support. With another 10 years gone by, the showers were definitely showing their age, and needed replacing. However, the challenge given JMC was to accomplish the shower replacement without disturbing any of the prior work, which was still in great shape. In addition, after living with a tiny laundry room for 20+ years, we needed to replace our washer/dryer, and realized that modern appliances simply were not going to fit in our tiny space. John came out and discussed options with us, and we arrived at a plan to knock out part of a wall, extend our space into the garage as well as under the stairs, and create a functional laundry room with modern full-size stacking washer and dryer. Again, the complexities of the design and the required movement of various plumbing and electrical components made for a challenging project. Sitting down with John MacDougall and his designer, we arrived at a great layout for the laundry. Through the process, John helped us to stay within our budget and avoid extra costs. Selecting the tile, fixtures and finishes for the laundry and the showers was made substantially easier by JMC's showroom, where we could see samples, compare colors and arrive at our decisions. We signed our contract at the end of September 2015, but explained that we would be having house guests through the Christmas holiday. As a result, demo and (re-)construction didn't start until later in January, which was fine with us. George, who had previously handled our basement remodel, came in to do the demolition and construction of the new laundry, and Mario handled each of the bathrooms. The crew put down floor protectors and plastic curtains in order to contain as much as possible of the dust and mess. Because we needed a working shower, the bathrooms were done sequentially, and then Barb was brought in to handle painting the bathroom, ceilings, the new laundry, and an upstairs bedroom we had added into the picture. The results are spectacular! Each of the bathrooms has been transformed into a stunner, and the new laundry is extremely functional. Mario is a perfectionist and an absolute artist with respect to the tile work and fixtures - his attention to detail was incredible. The paint work is also top notch. This is my third project with JMC, and at this point I wouldn't even think of calling anyone else. I highly recommend JMC for whatever your remodeling needs are - John is extremely knowledgeable, his crew are all craftsmen in the truest sense of the word, and Jack (project manager) does a great job of keeping everything running smoothly.
Description of Work: Tore out old fiberglass tub and shower enclosures in two bathrooms, and replaced with new tub and tile enclosures and fixtures. Demolished the old laundry room, extended into the garage by 2 feet, moved and re-routed sewer and water lines, and created a functional laundry facility.

I just had 2 bathrooms and my vanity area completely renovated by a company called JMC of Parsippany, NJ.The owner John, the office staff and the interior design team headed by Tammy were very helpful and professional with the planning stages. They had a good selection in their showroom and worked with my ideas. I can't say enough about Mike who spent about 2 months on the job using his expertise and craftsmanship. He showed pride in his work and listened to all of my concerns throughout the project adding his ideas as well which were much appreciated. I am very pleased with the end results. Both bathrooms are unique and exceed my expectations. Two thumbs up for JMC. i would definitely recommend them for your future renovations.

When my husband found the damage to the trim, he inspected it and realized there were damages to the wood inside. He felt this was beyond his skills. We turned to JMC because they had done a great job finishing part of our basement a couple of years back. Normally JMC doesn't do repairs. But, because they had worked on our house before, they were willing to come fix our problem. After inspecting the outside damage and drilling inspection holes into the inside wall, it was determined, the damages must be fixed from the inside and that included taking down at least half of the brick from the fireplace. Dust from the work was a major concern especially because my elderly mother was staying with us for a little while. George and his partner (I am sorry I forgot his name) were very accommodating. They put up plastic drop cloths to contain the dust and to prevent it from flowing into the rest of the house. As they worked, they did what was necessary to maintain low dust. They put down a length of hard cardboard to prevent tracking in dirt. He knew outside shoes are not worn in the house. It was much appreciated. The team did a great job fixing the problem. They water tested to make sure there were no leaks before sealing everything up. Where the bricks were removed, we decided to put up dry wall. They did a great job painting the wall and ceiling. On the outside, they caulked areas that were left uncaulked by mistake. With the siding, they inspected and only replaced where needed. Everything worked out fine and looked great. We have no complaint. My husband enjoyed discussions with George to find options to fix our problem. The work was done well. The next time there is work to be done, we will definitely call JMC again.
Description of Work: What started as insect damage to a piece of exterior trim turned into major water damage because there was a flashing missing by the family room fireplace. The header and surrounding areas had water damage that required removal of the header. JMC's George and his partner had to work inside to remove the fireplace bricks from the ceiling down to the mantel to fix the problem. They also replaced cracked sidings.

Our goal in this project was to end up with a spa-like master bath that was both elegant and timeless in it's design. JMC listened to our wish list and did an excellent job translating that into the bathroom of our dreams. John and his team where always prompt and professional and worked closely with us to ensure that our master bath was exactly what we wanted down to the last detail. The quality of workmanship is impeccable. We look forward to working with them on future projects and would highly recommend them to anyone considering a major renovation project.
Description of Work: JMC did a complete, down to the studs, renovation of our 20 year old Master Bathroom. This included extensive trim work, custom cabinetry, heated marble floors, marble walk-in shower and a free-standing tub.

Fantastic. Finished before the predicted time. Organized, neat, made sure pets couldnt get out. Redesigned the layout to be more efficient and spacious. Consulted with us constantly about the design. Their designer is very creative and amazingly skilled. Almost everything you need is at their site so there's very little to shop around for other than appliances, and they help you coordinate it all, from floor, ceiling, cabinets, hardware, countertops, etc. They had done our bathroom a few years ago. Now both rooms are beautiful.
