When I walked in the store with all sorts of big beautiful new sewing machines, I was afraid they would try to talk me into buying a new one, but happily - no. Instead, they looked over my machine and spent several minutes showing me what I was doing wrong, the damage I had caused, and told me what they would do to fix it. And then they did just that, in less than a week and for less than $100! She was so helpful, I bought some new threads and a supply of correct needles for my machine so I would be ready to roll. They were quite knowledgeable - I wish there were more folks around like this these days. As one myself, I like to support small independent business people that know what they're doing - much less do it with professionalism and a smile. I recommend them.
Description of Work: My 10 year old sewing machine was acting up and needed a tune up.

I brought in my old but serviceable base model Elna. All was working fine except the end of the presser foot lever had accidentally gotten snapped off, and in addition to having that fixed if possible, it just needed a regular tune-up besides. Before they even knew what I wanted to have done they were telling me I should just buy a new machine from them. When I informed them I already had a new Bernette and that I was just fixing the Elna up to give to a friend's daughter, they scoffed that Bernettes aren't "real" Berninas. Nevertheless I dropped off the Elna. They said it would take about 2 weeks to find out if the presser foot lever was available and get back to me with an estimate. A month later when I hadn't heard back I called, and it was clear they had completely forgotten about it. I was told I it would take a week to find the part and get the estimate. Then, nothing. So a couple weeks later I called again, same story. Repeat several more times until they has the machine almost 4 months. A day after my final call to them I got a call back--they had found the part and if I wanted to go ahead, that and the tune-up would come to $180+. I paid $250 for the machine new, so obviously it wasn't worth it. When I went to get the machine back, they couldn't figure out where they had put it and it took them a while to find it on the shelf. During all these exchanges over the months they were always gruff and borderline rude. See no reason to go back there, ever.
Description of Work: In the end I chose not to have the work done because it wasn't worth it and I was tired of being jerked around.

I brought my sewing machine in on a Thursday morning when the repairman was there but he did not look at it until the next Thursday. I was told by the salesperson that it would take a few days not more than a week. At the time I was not aware that the repair man is a traveling repair man who only comes on Thursday. I was given an estimate of $130-160 to repair the timing, tension and needle plate. I agreed. After a week I got a call that something else was wrong and the fee was now $175. The repair was made and on Friday morning I get a call that another part (additional $75) broke when the machine was being tested!!. This top of the line Singer Futura machine was old but worked well until the timing was off. I made it clear when I dropped the machine off that I wanted an evaluation of the machine before doing any repairs to decide if it was worth fixing. The total was now $250!!! The owner advised not putting the money into the machine but I could also not get my machine back to use as a trade in towards a new one unless I paid for what was already done! I have no way of knowing if this is what really happened. If the machine had been properly evaluated at first, I could have refused the repair and taken the machine home. I would not recommend having sewing machine repairs done here. A private repair person would be better.

The store examined the sewing machine and presented an estimate for the repair when we brought it in. The people in the store were extremely knowledgeable and friendly. The machine was ready when promised and when we picked it up, the woman at the store sat with my wife to give her pointers on how to use her machine.

I took my Brother electronic sewing machines into the store to evaluate the problem. My thread was bunching under the bobbin. They had several different brands in the store. An elderly woman looked at my machine, and immediately said I had the wrong bobbin in the machine. She changed it out, adjusted the tension, and the machine was 75% better. She also said the wrong bobbin case was in the machine. It had gotten lost, and I reordered one online. With a new bobbin case and servicing, the cost quoted was $150 (approx.). They also suggested spending $50 more, and purchasing a new machine with all metal interior parts. They provide free training on how to use any machine you purchase from them, for as long as you need help. The training teaches you how to use the different accessories, how to maintain the machine, etc.; But they do not teach "sewing lessions". Since this was a machine going to my sister; she decided to purchase a new machine. She lives in another state, so unfortunately could not make the purchase in Paramus. These are the REAL old school people who really know the ins and outs of the sewing business. I highly recommend them to anyone at any level.

They are fine. They took care of me and answered my questions. They fixed my sewing machine. They attached a strip that they sewed on to test the stitches. I am assuming that everything is fine. I haven't had any problems with them. I would use this service again.
Description of Work: They tuned up my sewing machine.
